In Mail, typing an apostrophe causes cursor to jump or be mispositioned
On my new iMac (and the old one, both with current Yosemite), when typing text in Mail, whenever I type an apostrophe, the cursor changes position, sometimes jumping ahead, or other times jumping back a space after the next letter(s) are typed. For instance, typing I'll results in the cursor ending up between the two L's. Creates lots of typo's if I don't catch them. Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions?
check for Internet Explorer addons which could interfer with Standard Siebel functionality.
Try deactivating all Toolbars and Addons which are not default and see if it helps.

Mail - Typing ll makes the cursor hop backwards
Whenever I type a word that ends in ll, for example I'll, We'll, You'll, in an email in Mail, the cursor hops backwards to in-between the 2 'l's when I press the space bar. Therefore when I have finished writing, there is only one 'l' at the end of the word and the other one is at the end of the email.
I can't imagine that there is a preference for this.... it must be a bug...... Does anyone else experience this?

and uncheck all the options. Test. If the problem is resolved, you can experiment with re-enabling some of the options to further isolate the cause. -
Invoking 'Send Mail' (F9) causes cursor to jump, characters to be skipped
In Siebel 8.1, using Dell laptops and desktops, when an agent presses F9, the Send email pops up, when the agent begins typing the cursor jumps about and some typed characters are not displayed.
Any ideas or solutions?check for Internet Explorer addons which could interfer with Standard Siebel functionality.

Hitting ENTER causes cursor to jump to other blocks

In my custom 6i form, if the user accidentally hits ENTER on any field (null or not null), the cursor jumps to a particular block everytime. How can I stop this event to occur so the cursor stays at that field only?

My cursor keeps jumping while I am typing.
Even while I am typing this question my cursor is jumping back to the middle of my sentance without touching the arrow keys or trackpad. Everything I have read says that this was a problem 2 years ago. I have the new macbook pro with retina. Any help?

When composing an email in Mac Mail I've noticed a small but very irritating bug: pressing the spacebar after typing an apostrophe in a word, e.g. "we're", the cursor moves to the left i.e. backwards, and not to the right, effectively deleting a space and not creating one.
Any ideas?I just recreated this problem on my iMac (wired KB, no wireless KB) by changing Mail > Preferences > Composing > Spellcheck from "as I type" to "never". Then type a contraction ending in 're and the space bar causes the cursor to jump back as others have stated, to the spot 'r|e
Next, I went into System Preferences > Keyboard > Text, and turned off "use smart quotes" and the problem went away again.
From this point (smart quotes off, spell checking never), if I turn Smart Quotes ON, the problem returns.
The problem is dependent on the state of both settings.
The spacebar in Mail "works" if I have either of the following setting combinations:
Keyboard: smart quotes OFF, Mail: check spelling ANY SETTING
Keyboard: smart quotes ON, Mail: check spelling AS I TYPE
Other combinations FAIL
Keyboard: smart quotes ON, Mail: Check spelling NEVER
Keyboard: smart quotes ON, Mail: Check Spelling WHEN I CLICK SEND
Looks to me like there's a bug in Mail > Preferences > Check spelling > NEVER and WHEN I CLICK SEND that interacts badly with Keyboard > Smart quotes ON.

For Safari, on web pages, the use of ‘ (apostrophe) causes erratic behavior in text boxes. A contraction such as “I’v |e “ has caused the cursor to backspace, displacing the e when the space bar is hit, or causes a jump out of the text box and a return to the top a a page when used for the first time right at the beginning of text.
Other browsers do not have this problem. When will Apple fix this problem?From the menu bar, select

My cursor keeps jumping all over the place in Mail since I installed Yosemite
I installed Yosemite yesterday, and now, whenever I try to write an email, my cursor keeps jumping all over the place. I can't write more than a few words without my cursor jumping back in the middle of one of the previous words. I makes Mail almost unusable. Am I the only one with this problem?
Similar problem. Mine seems to happen in mail - my cursor jumps to the line below and carries on typing - almost as if I'd pressed the down arrow to move the cursor. It seems to happen more when I type an apostrophe too.

Try a different Tracking speed.
Sometimes just cleaning the trackpad can avoid erratic cursor behavior.

Also you might want to check your keyboard - may sound a bit silly, but I tried that myself on a friends laptop and we found a tiny bit of metal under the left arrow key. -
Has anyone else developed the problem of an over-sensitive MacBook AIr cursor? In the last few days mine has developed a mind of its own, and when you move it to the desired spot it can jump quite randomly. In mail, I try reply but it's jumped to "fwd" instead! Irritating.

Typing in OS X: cursor jumps unexpectedly
For the last couple years, I've been experiencing a problem that I've, so far, been able to endure. But it's taking a toll on my ability to compose on a Mac, and I need to reach out to the Apple community again for help.
When I'm compsing or revising a document on one of my computers (a Mac Pro, a Mac Mini, and a Macbook Pro), and it happens in all sorts of applications, my cursor will jump (usually forward 2-3 lines) unexpectedly. I haven't been able to narrow down a cause.
It is NOT a trackpad, because this happens on my Mac Mini and I don't use a trackpad on it. It's not jewelry touching a trackpad because I don't wear any jewelry.
It must be an app or something. Has anybody out there identified an app that has this effect on the usability of a Mac?
Thanks in advance for any pointers people can share on this problem.

this sounds strange, i don't remember anyone reporting this here until now. could it be that the "hot corners" (in "System preferences -> DT&Screensaver -> Screen saver" could be set to "sleep display"? have a look at them, put them to an innocent value (eg. Dashboard) and try again.

How does one prevent cursor from jumping to previous words, deleting words?
A question for my daughter who has a macbook pro with an intel chip using system 10.4.11. On several different programs,e.g. word, gmail, her cursor arrow jumps from the word she is on, backwards, to the previous words, deleting words, phrases, and sentences along the way. What may be the cause? How may we prevent this? Thank you.
Has ANYONE found a solution to this???? My MacBook Pro (purchased Sept 08) doesn't have the ignore accidental trackpad thing. I seriously doubt that it's my typing, since I've used 2 different IBM's, 3 different Gateways, 3 different PowerBooks, a MacBook, and an older MacBook Pro. No problem ever with any of them. Not even once.
If I turn off the Tap to Click (and the two finger right mouse is REALLY HARD to give up) the problem goes away. Several threads give this as the solution. Just turn the trackpad tap on and off. This is a workaround NOT A SOLUTION!!!!!
I've been reading on this for quite a while. "Genius" solutions like reinstalling the OS, etc. Not found one that actually works.

OSX update 10.10.2 causes mouse to jump around and text to be highlighted randomly in Dreamweaver CC. When trying to click on a specific line of code in a js file the cursor ends up in a different place in the script and several lines of code highlighted. Clicking again jumps the mouse to a different position and even more lines of code highlighted and some characters rearranged, breaking the lines of code. Very frustrating.

I am having the same issue. I have a MBP connected to 2 x Dell 27" monitors over Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables. Once I updated to OS X 10.10.2 this cursor highlight/jumping around issue only occurs on the connected monitors. If I move the program to the main laptop display the issue goes away. It does not require me to restart the program or the machine to make it work correctly. One way I am able to identify the issue is if I go to the line numbers in code like I wanted to select multiple lines - in the one that works correctly, the cursor turns into a white version where the tip of the cursor points to the right. When it is wrong, the cursor stays black and will only have the tip point to the left. Its just another way I identified if it was working cause I tried uninstalling DW and reinstalling - didn't work. Reset preferences as you discussed - no go. And I used other editors like IntelliJ and Adobe Edge Code - all of which work fine and don't display this issue.
I tried the preferences reset you suggest and it doesn't work. I have another machine with OS X 10.10.1 on it and this issue is not there on any monitor. Any help with this ASAP as it pretty much stops you from being able to do any editing especially with longer pages as it consistently wants to page up when you select anything and if you then click again in another area it tries to move the highlighted code to that new spot.
Update: I have a USB Microsoft Arch touch mouse connected (always worked just fine). When I go to place my cursor at some point in the code it causes the highlight flicker. If I switch over and use the built in trackpad, then I can place the cursor without the highlight issue. When trying to select multiple lines or sections of code, that still see's the highlight, page up and move of code issues regardless of input type.
