In middle of sync, iTunes crashes. (Windows XP)

*I am not good with computers, and I am a teenager. I need help. Whenever I try to put a song on my iPod Touch 2nd generation, my computer, or try to import a CD to iTunes, iTunes crashes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." and I don't know why.*

Do you get an error message?  If so, state it exactly.

I open iTunes and it says it is opening in compatibility mode, when it isn't. This issue is annoying but I can live with it since everything else seems to work.
With that one, first see the following document. (Make sure that all the boxes in the tab are unchecked, not just the compatibility mode box.)
[iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1489]
If all those boxes are unchecked, but you're still getting a compatibility mode message, the cause is usually an errant registry setting. For troubleshooting advice on fixing that possibility, see RandomBehavior's post in the following topic:

  • Syncing itunes to windows media player

I just bought some songs from the Itunes store, however I don't have an Apple anything, can my songs sync to my windows media player,to then sync to my MP3 Player?

Almost certainly these tracks will be standard AAC format with the file extension .m4a and not be protected by DRM. Therefore they will be usable by Windows Media Player when the right steps are followed.
Firstly Windows Media Player 12 as included with Windows7 will itself support AAC tracks and can even read the meta-tags from them including embedded cover art. For Windows Vista I don't know if WMP12 is available and whether it also under Vista support AAC, but I can say that it is possible to use WMP11 under Vista to play AAC files. See the AAC section on this page for information written by myself, http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/SW/WMP/FileFormat.htm
Unfortunately even though it is possible to get WMP12 under Windows7 to also play Apple Lossless, Microsoft have as usual cocked up and even though Apple Lossless also uses the same MPEG4 file format, the same file extension and the same tagging format, it will not treat them as music (it treats them as 'other' media). It was possible do also add Apple Lossless properly with early versions of WMP i.e. 9, 10 and 11, as per my instructions on the above webpage.

  • IPod Classic not syncing // iTunes crashing (iTunes 10.7)

A couple of days ago I restored my iPod as there were tracks that weren't playing. After restoring i'm unable to sync my iPod again...i've never had this problem before. I'm getting various error messages, some examples are ::
'The iPod cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found'
'iPod cannot be synced. A duplicate filename was specified'
Sometimes it will show an error message for certain tracks and give me error codes '-50' or -69
Everytime I try to sync my iPod now, iTunes will run incredibly slow or just crash.
I've tried restoring my iPod three times, tried re-downloading iTunes, resetting my iPod manually, deleting duplicate files, running the diagnostic thing, I've read other people's posts on here and watched YouTube tutorials, tried various different things but nothing seems to be working. Does anyone know whether this is a problem with iTunes 10.7? More importantly, is anyone able to give me some advice? It's very frustrating!
    Thanks in advance...

Never mind.  I solved the problem.  There was an issue with authorization.

I have tried uninstalling all previous apple software and then reinstalling.
    Quicktime also appears to work.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks

No, that might put all your music in a different folder. Making a new library was just a test, to see if it was a problem with the itunes database file.
That new test library probably got named iTunes1...you can just delete that after you close itunes.
You can recreate your library using these steps. It should get back everything except Date Added.

  • Problems Syncing, iTunes Crashes, etc.

The Apple TV itself seems to be causing iTunes to freeze, and ultimately crash:
When using iTunes, it works until the Apple TV tries to sync, and it does for a couple of seconds, then freezes on the "syncing" bar on the top of the screen showing it's progress.
I've uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes, with no results, and I have reset the computer, Apple TV, and tried all combination of these components, so I'm at a loss for what to do since I can't seem to find a similar issue in the forums.
Has this happened to anyone? or do you know what the issue is?
    Thanks!

My iTunes library was being stored on an external harddrive, and I decided to make access to the harddrive through my Airport so my network would be able to access files as well, but apparently this slowed down iTunes to the point of a crash when Apple TV went to retrieve data to sync.
Reattaching the harddrive to my computer's usb port, and resetting the Apple TV solved the issue.

  • The iPhone cannot be synced. iTunes crashing.

There seems to be a whole “bunch of stuff” going on with my iMac 21” i3, and I just wanted to check in to see if anyone had experienced anything similar or had any advice.
First, when syncing my iPhone 4 last week I got this message:
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
iTunes at the same time was freezing up, so I forced quit (silly perhaps).
When I restarted iTunes I got this:
“iTunes Library does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file.  iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed the file to "iTunes Library(Damaged)"
Some research some frustration and some time got my iTunes back up and running.
I was still getting the "The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." When attempting to sync by iPhone.
Finally I found a fix that worked online (not syncing photos!).
So that should be the end of the story.
But since then iTunes has been running SLLLLOOOOOWW, as has my system as a whole.
    Then last night:
"The iPhone cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
    Followed by:
“iTunes Library does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file.  iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed the file to "iTunes Library(Damaged)"
    So something be wack!
The only thing I could think of is I got an email from Apple telling me they needed to replace my hard drive free of charge as they were found to be faulty.
I’ve booked in with the Apple Store to have the drive replaced. But could it be the problem? Or do I have something else happening here.

Please post questions regarding unreleased software in the Developer's forum using your developer account credentials.

  • ITunes crashes when I attempt to sync music to iPhone

This has been an ongoing problem for about a month or so. When I connect my iPhone to my computer it shows in iTunes that it's connected, however, when I hit "sync" iTunes crashes. iTunes updates all of my applications and even allowed me to update my 3GS to iOS4 but it just crashes when it attempts to sync all of my music in iTunes. I've reinstalled iTunes using the step by step article like Apple tech support told me but after that they said it has to be a hardware problem.
Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts.
BTW I am running Vista Home Premium.

Okay ... I've got no +a priori+ reason to suspect the nVidia's at this stage. (There has been a bit of an uptick in unorthodox Radeon issues over the past couple of weeks, but nothing related to nVidia's that I'm aware of.)
More experimentation, if you're still game J.
There have been a few more preference file issues cropping up in recent months than I like. Although I'd usually associate them with something like an iTunes.dll faulting module than a QuickTime component, I've seen them mimic QuickTime component troubles down through the years.
If it's a pref file issue, it should produce a user-account-specific crash. (There's different sets of iTunes pref files in each different Windows user account.) So it's probably worth checking to see if this is user account specific or not.
Create a new user account with full administrative rights on the PC. Log out of your usual account and log into the new account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Launch iTunes in the new account. The iTunes Setup Assistant will run. When prompted, don't let iTunes add files to the new account. Just let it launch to an empty library.
In iTunes, go "Edit > Preferences". In the "Devices" tab, check the "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically" checkbox. Click OK.
Plug in the iPhone. *(Do not associate the iPhone with the empty library.)*
Do we get another "iTunes has stopped working"? Or does iTunes stay open this time around?

I have a 60gb "new to me" iPod. I have the latest software updates for my iPod and iTunes but when I connect my iPod to my computer for it to automatically sync, iTunes crashes!!!! I've already tried to restart my computer and restore my iPod several times.

Also, do you have iTunes open and then it closes? What if iTunes is not open?

  • ITunes Crashes When Syncing iPhone or iPod

I am running iTunes 8.0.2 and I am having problems syncing both my iPhone and iPod to my Mac via iTunes. When I connect either device and start the sync process iTunes will crash to the desktop and then ask me if I would like to relaunch it. There are no error codes of any kind but it does give me the option to report the incident to Apple (which I have done twice now). I've tried restarting the Mac, I've tried rebooting both the iPhone and the iPod but every time I connect either one and initiate sync, iTunes crashes to the desktop. I am not experiencing any other anomalies in iTunes and everything seems to work fine between iTunes and my Apple TV including syncing. Anyone else seeing this behavior - it just started today out of the blue. Is there a way I can reset iTunes without losing my music library? Also, when I synced the iPhone to iTunes and it crashed I discovered later that iTunes has lost two of my paid applications out of iTunes and deleted them off the phone as well. As best as I can tell they are gone. What the heck is going on here?

This is probably the same issue as this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885983&tstart=0
Itunes 8.0.2 crashes during sync to iPhone or iPod with the EXCBADACCESS exception. The problem does not affect Apple TV syncing.
No word from apple yet, but it seems to be a widespread problem.

  • Windows 7 x64 Syncing Never Completes. iTunes Crashes At The End

I have had my ipod touch 3g for half a year now. First I used to use it on 32bit Windows 7, but recently I upgraded my machine and run 64bit Windows 7. It has been running well for the past few months but all of a sudden I have been getting a lot of error messages as well as iTunes not being able to complete syncing.
Everything starts normally, but iTunes crashes right near the END, after all the files have been copied. You can almost smell the "Sync complete, ok to disconnect" text. Please check image.
    http://i44.tinypic.com/25jupli.png
If I let it be, then Windows eventually gives you a iTunes has crashed dialog box.
I have tried EVERYTHING. Have restored my ipod dozens of times. Have tried 9.1, 9.03 and 9.02 both in 32bit and 64bit variants. Nothing seems to work.
Funny thing is, if I go back to my old machine with the 32bit Windows 7, the ipod syncs just fine.
So I am guessings it's either a problem with my machine, or some problem with iTunes and 64bit Windows 7.
    Please help!

I've had the exact same problem since the last update. It just keeps saying "Sync in Progress" and nothing changes until I stop it. I've tried resetting, reinstalling, etc.
    I have noticed three things:
It is sync'ing at least partially...
I unchecked some photo files and it took those photo files off. But now I've added them back and it won't put any photo files onto my iPhone.
If I check/uncheck iTunes U then hit apply it will actually say "Sync Complete" but it still hasn't put my pictures back on the phone.
Also...just something that I don't like...apparently the ability to mark a podcast as "played" or "watched" is no longer available as an option at the podcast level and they have to be cleared at the individual episode level...that's totally annoying cause now I have to go through and "mark as played" for each podcast.
    Any ideas?
