In Mission Control, why can I not choose where a new fullscreen window is placed (left side vs. right side)
This is more of a wishful post that I hope an apple developer stumbles across and thinks is a good idea to put into a future OSX Lion update.
My wish is that when I fullscreen a new app (like safari, chrome, mail, etc.) I can choose where it adds the new space, either to the left of my existing spaces (between desktop and leftmost fullscreen app in mission control) or to the right side, which is what it does now. I've turned off the option that automatically arranges my spaces based on frequency of usage because I was getting annoyed at things not showing up where they were previously when swiping between spaces. Anyway...

eTopher Kessler's advice to "right click" on the attachment will give you various options, including the option to select the destination.
If you do not have a two button mouse, hold the control key down and click on the attachment. -
Why can I not just have a new phone.
I am on my 3 refurbished replacement phone and am starting to get fustrated with Verizon. Every refurbished Galaxy S III that has been sent to me has had a different malfunction. Why can't I just have a new phone enstead of a refurbished one.

Yes, it should, that's why they have a warranty, and the warranty says that after 14 days and up to 1 year, they will replace it with a refurbished device.
If you buy a new car and have problems with the transmission after 6 months, do they give you a new car, or "refurbish" the one you have? (It's not like Verizon is doing something "new and different" with their warranty) -
Why can I not boot from my new hard drive?
After replacing my hard drive (40 Gb) with a larger (120 Gb) drive the computer will not boot. I can boot from the 10.4 system CD and have managed to install the system without problems, but after restarting the computer I only get to see a folder with a flashing question mark in it.
My computer is the first of the Titanium series (400 Mhz). The hard drive is a Seagate momentus 5400 rpm. Is there a compatibility issue here? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
PowerBook G4/400 Titanium Mac OS X (10.4)Hi, StenErik. If I were you, I would forget about FireWire Target Disk Mode. I'd start the Powerbook from a retail OS X 10.4 installer DVD, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the hard drive, reformat it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", check the box for installing OS 9 drivers, and then install Tiger. I can't explain why this should make the resulting installation any different from what you have installed now. But it seems to me there must be some detail you've failed to mention and we've failed to think of, and that detail, whatever it is, is much more significant than it seems: significant enough to prevent your Tibook from booting. Therefore, reverting to the most basic installation procedure possible, with as few external variables as possible, seems a useful thing to try. To minimize variables even further, disconnect all peripherals from the PB while reformatting and installing.
As Hardy has suggested, the size of your drive is not the issue. A 120GB drive should be fine. -
Why can i not update to the new version of iPhoto and Garageband through the appstore?
When trying to update, I keep getting the pop-up:
"We could not complete your request
There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (null)".
How can I update to the new version?

I think iLife is being updated from MAS now, thus the need for a AppleID to update it.
One person had iLife and tried to update with a differnent AppleID and it rejected it, seems they bought a open box machine and iLife was installed using another AppleID for display purposes.
When one reinstalls Lion, and has to install iLife, they have to go to MAS to do it.

If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.

You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. Why can I not automatically download a new voice as the Dictation
I have bought Bingo Caller Pro for Mac as I live in a retirement village, and wish to use it for that purpose, however, (voice) Alex is not understood by some of our older ladies.
I have tried to download both Tessa (South african voice) and Daniel (UK voice) as the option says This voice will be automatically downloaded. After the whole download process is complete, I get a message, sorry not complete an error occurred. Plain "Bingo Caller" is there in the PREVIEW page but the link to the Mac App Store resolves to the Mac App Store Main page.

Just bought an IPod Classic and put 3 songs on my iTunes account - 1 purchased and 2 from a CD. I can't sync and the screen shot shown in the help section doesn't ressemble my scren views. i have now been on hold for 55 minutes despite a mesage saying "15 minutes or more" that implied a much quicker experience. This is really an unimpressive begining.

HT4689 do i have to use mission control or can i set it to another method ?
I don't have a sensor mouse, i am using an old mouse and don't really feel like buying a whole new mouse. Do I have to use mission control or can I get an app to customize the computer to my personal style?
Mission Control is just one way someone can navigate their mac.
I personally never use it.
There are plenty of application for using your mac, but there are a lot of built in shortcuts you can make for it too.
If you did, sort of want to use mission control, but don't have a touch sensitive device to bring it up, you can do a couple of things that the mac already is capable of doing without having to purchase anything new or download a third party app.
1. Hot Corners.
Hot corners are a way to access some of the most important tasks for your computer. you can set hot corners in System Preferences>Mission Control then click "Hot Corners" button on the bottom left of the window and the settings will slide down and look like this. Choose the pulldown menu for whichever corner you want mission control to be in and then move your mouse cursor to that corner. As you can see there are other options for hot corners to help you better control and customize your machine.
2. Spotlight.
spotlight is a powerful tool and is often times overlooked by novices.
hit cmd and space bar at the same time (cmd+spacebar) and up pops a search box in the upper right corner of your screen. start typing an application or a file you want to be opened. spotlight automagically begins guessing what you're searcing for.
I use spotlight a lot and it keeps my desktop very clean of anything that I'm not working on or with.
if the first selection in the list is what you wanted you can hit enter. Sometimes all I need to do is type in a few letters and then "enter" and the application is loading up in no time. It also bring open apps to the front.
3. Keyboard Shortcuts
there is a way to make your keyboard's Function keys act as "hotspots" as well.
go to system preferences>keyboard and you can set your own keyboard shortcuts or see the ones that are preset in OSX. These are here to help you navigate your mac faster.
Another keyboard shortcut I like is cmd+tab. if you hold down the command key, and you tap on the Tab key, a thing called "Application Switcher" appears. This lets you see what is open and also lets you select which one you want to come to the forefront. you can continue to hold the command key down after hitting tab to use your cursor to select the application or continually hit tab with the command key down until it is highlighting the app you want.
Not completely sure what you wanted or didn't want mission control for or what alternatives you wanted to know but here are a few that will make your workflow fast and you, one step closer to being a power user. -
Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options. I was able to select the account under "parental controls", but again, could not delete it. Why Apple? Why?!!????
SOLVED Ok. I actually was able to disable it. I had to actually log in as the guest user to make it accessible in the preference window. Then I disabled it and logged out. Apologies if this was obvious for some people, but I have had some sort of issue with something every update since Snow Leopard.

Why can I NOT name a Reminder List the exact same thing as a Calendar?
Remember the good old days when ToDo Lists where automatically related to a specific calendar? I want that back. Why can I not name a Reminder List and a Calendar with identical titles? Why do I have to create a calendar named "Blue Project" and then create a Reminder List and name it "Blue Project 2" or some other iteration? This is totally asinine.

Precisely. How is "loss of functionality" progress or an upgrade? Why should I have to install an extension just to get a "reload" button? What a pile of crap. Well then, as I wrote in the headline... Why can I not open PDF-files?
I get a notification that says that either the file is already open (which it's not) or it is missing a plug-in thingy for this kind of file.
So, how do I know which plug-in thing I should chose from Adobe which will solve my problem?
Could it be enough just to update the program? I tried with 6.0.6. upgrade but it wouldn't even open up. I'm not so good at this type of computerproblems (choosing upgrades, plug-in etc.). The program is not upgraded for a long time, unless it do it automatically, but I think we've chosen it not to....
Please help!
