I am reading different things about mountian lion and the cloud.
Do oyu have to use the cloud for things?
Can you opt out of using the cloud?
It's your choice to use iCloud or not. If you have more than one Apple device, why wouldn't you use the features that benefit you. You can choose the features you want turned on. You can keep you address book synced between devices, calendars, bookmarks, messages, or PhotoStream. You can use .me email either with or without iCloud, but it's a very simple setup using iCloud by simply turning it on.
What you want to use is your choice. Take advantage of the features that you can use.

Longer Transitions? Must you use the roll tool every time?
Hello. I'm new to FCE, and while I'm blown away at the possibilities with this editing software, I'm also reaching a point of slight discouragement... simply because of the daunting task of learning it all.
Anyways, here's my question this time around.
I've added several 10 second clips of stills to my timeline. When I add a dissolve transition between them, it automatically inserts the transition in a duration of only 00:00:01. This is obviously annoying. I've learned of the Roll tool, with allows me to drag the desired clips together, and therefore allowing for more room to enter a dissolve of say 1 second.
Isn't there an easier way to do this? Must I use the Roll tool for every point that I'd like to add a 1-second transition? This seem quite excessive, and quite unbelievable. I must be missing something. Is there a way to insert a cross-dissolve and have it automatically roll the clips together? My transition alignment is set to Center, so I don't see why it can't automatically bring :15 frames of the first clip and second clip together.

Message was edited by: DaerisYes, pretty much right at the beginning of the clip. Through experimentation, I believe I've found out that I need to have sufficient frames prefacing the IN point and following the OUT point in order to input a longer transition. Is that correct?
Again I question this though... Is there not a more automatic way to simply add for say, a 2-second transition, or is it essential to manually check the In and Out points of every single clip?

How many macs can i upgrade to mountain lion if i used the free upgrade program
I recently bought a macbook air and received the free upgrade to mountain lion. Will i be able to just simply go to my app store account on another macbook (macbook pro snow leopard) and upgrade that to mountain lion as well?

Not to muddy the waters but according to the license agreement here: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX108.pdf, Apple distinguishes between a "Preinstalled and Single-Copy Apple Software License" and a "Mac App Store License." The Preinstalled license limits use of the installer to one copy on one Apple-branded computer. If the content code can be used more than once with your Mac App Store account or if the Mountain Lion installer appears as available for installation when you log into your Mac App Store account on a Mac different from the one that qualified you for the upgrade, then it would seem that the Mac App Store License is what applies here. Of course I'm no lawyer; if I was, I'm sure it would be even more complicated. -
Is it possible to update my Creative Suite or must I use the Cloud? [was: Is this real?]

Your concerns are justified. Adobe will no longer provide you with meaningful tech support. I have an office with 5 designers and CS6. i was forced to upgrade to Creative Cloud after a few of the users could no longer work on some important documents. Adobe support only response was that they could not help us unless we upgraded to CC. Once we upgraded the problem continued and they finally helped us solve the issue. Its very simple. Adobe doesnt want there customers to own anything. You must buy the software for a least a year via subscription and have your work held hostage. My advise is to start finding and using other tools. We have started researching other tools.

Having the exact same issue. Also, on right click, many apps freeze/beachball and must force close. Additionally, uTorrent and Transmission are not operating correctly-uTorrent constantly beachballing and unresponsive. Right-click freezes with everything from Word to iMovie. Takes way too much time to do anything, and lots of cursor freezing, here is a sys log excerpt:

That killed the hard drive, so I got a new hard drive and had the Apple Store install Lion on it, then used Migration Assistant to bring files over. Since then I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and have been experiencing lots of beach balls, freezes, etc. They're so bad that I've had to forcibly shut down 3 times, and each time can't restart. Each time I've erased and done a clean install of Mountain Lion from a USB, then used migration assistant and time machine to bring files back. Hello, I've installed Lion but now it says I can't use the Cloud as I need the Apple ID Password to use Back to My Mac. I've obtained several new Apple ID passwords which work ok on my phone but doesn't seem to be the password it's looking for.Does anyone know what's needed please ??
It's probably looking for the Apple ID & Password you used to purchase Lion, or ML as the case may be.

Remote location, 7kbs d'load speed, 10 days to d'load Lion, only software updates are through the App Store. Why can't we d'load and install outside the Cloud anymore? Some of us can't use the cloud and never will be able to.
That is true - I apologize for not being specific - what I was mainly referring to is iLife applications. I have a notice on the App Store that says 3 apps need updates, I look at the apps and they are huge so since my connection is so slow I use my work connection and d'load the files from support to my Windows machine and carry them home, once d'loaded my MacAir states it cannot install, the update must come from the App Store.
I do the same thing for large Leopard and Lion files and I can install them without error, it is just the App Store files that the system stops. -
I would like to use a copy of Mountain Lion for development, but the store tells me I cannot download it because my MacBook 4,1 is not compatible! What can I do to download it?

You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

I have the old MacBook Pro. Upgraded to Mountain Lion which completely wrecked the system. So downgraded to Snow Leopard.
Then updated the combo update. Now stuck on blue screen at start-up.

1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files. -

the stand-alone version is the same software as comes from the cloud - you can verify the MD5/SHA checksums if you don't believe me.
it may be worth elaborating what it is you are concerned about (I'm not familiar with the safety issue that Adobe has "shown us before").
But regardless, Lightroom is available "stand-alone" and will be "indefinitely" so no reason to fret, yet.. -
I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV? I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV. This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade. Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV? There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.
Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection. Double check all cables. If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

I'm looking into how apps use the cloud. Would you consider any app with social media access as uploading information to the cloud? e.g. being able to tweet through an app is the same as uploading data to the cloud
Most of us in this forum are users who volunteer on technical issues, and not Adobe employees although they do drop in from time to time. As users we simply have no control over activation and that's why you are not getting responses.
If you havn't done so,you might try the Muse forums and see if you can get a staff member to look into it. Have your case numbers and phone transcripts handy.
Last option is to keep calling customer service until you get someone who will help or ask for a supervisor.
