In need of a basics mentor

Hello, I am doing a senior project for my high school. My project will include a Java program which I will write. I will be needing a long term mentor, for possibly a very long time (up to a year). I know this seems like an amazing commitment but I will only be asking the easiest of questions, if I ask any at all, I do have a basic knowledge of Java. We will need to communicate via E-mail or online chat, preferably E-mail. My coordinator wishes that my mentor has either been certified or has a degree in Java programming.
Please consider this, the project is a requirement for my graduation.

Doesn't matter. Most likely you just didn't look well enough or long enough. In my experience pretty much everything selected as "projects" by schoolkids has been done a million times before.

Requesting private tutoring on public forums IS rude, and most often against the rules of those forums.
In contrast, asking questions nicely and waiting for answers is considered quite civilised.
Do NOT direct questions towards a single user however. There are far more people capable of answering those questions than just one, and you're NOT entitled to any one person's undivided attention anyway.

The installation CD for your CLIE is no longer available for sale. Sony has stopped all development and manufacturing of new CLIE products back in May 2004.
As the Parts and Accessories sells out of stock on CLIE accessory items, they are not being replaced. At this time there is no plan to re-introduce the CLIE Handheld or accessories for sale.

The cheapest Mac available new is a Mac Mini. It is no bigger than many an external hard drive. But the screen and keyboard and mouse must be purchased separately. They support USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice, and pretty much any DVI, HDMI, or displayport display. Although the iMac is certainly an attractive option if all you want to deal with is deciding on a printer. I still recommend getting an Apple USB keyboard for the occasional times you may need to troubleshoot startup issues. Normally not a problem, but as it gets older some issues can be fixed at startup or diagnosed at startup.

iPhoto > iPhoto help > browse help > view and organise. Perhaps this touches on some of your needs.
Usually, best results for questions come from posting to the forum directly related to the question, in this case iPhoto. That tends to find the gurus

Help needed for using BASIC authentication through JDBCRealm

I am doing a degree project, so far it works fine in my local machine, I need to try it on my virtual hosting (as it is a live server).
My project requires JDBCRealm, that is BASIC authentication loading access data from mysql database. Normally this setup can be done in Server.xml file, because my Tomcat hosting is a virtual one, I only have permission to access the web.xml file.
My question is: is it possible to get it done in an alternative way? In web.xml? Some properties file maybe?

You can set this up for your context using META-INF/context.xml instead of working with server.xml.
Make a directory called META-INF under your webapp ( it'll be at the same level as WEB-INF ). Under this, add a context.xml with all your context specific configuration including the realm. A sample is below

New to Photoshop (CS4Ext) and need help with basic loading of images to new folder.

Just purchased CS4Ext and installed it. It's not showing up on my desktop as a quick entry icon. I want to simply load images from a portable hard drive (USB) to a new folder in photoshop so I can review them and begin to select and separate out some of interest to manipulate and share or get ready to print. It 's the most basic help one can need butI'm jut not clear on the workflow steps . Would appreciate someone walking me through the steps .

Let's see… First of all, this is the Photoshop Macintosh forum. Installed applications never, ever show up on your desktop as a "quick entry" icon on a Mac. Are you on a Windows PC maybe?

You need to store the patterns for each letter of the alphabet somewhere - say in an array. You can then read out the patterns to build up strings.

Need help plz - basic pull down lever, to make a "slot Machine run"

Im trying to create a lever to activate my "slot machine" run. I want to make just a very very basic pull down lever, that when pulled down far enough, and if released will start the run. i guess i have to use the y = some where in there but just really lost don't no were to even start this. the pull down will obviously need to only pull part of the level (top part, down) but keep the main lever in place...rly lost..any help or tips will be much appriciated!

This is not a good sign, this could be an indication of to much amp being drawed.
This could be due to a poor connection on the P/S connector or the connector of the MB or it could be due to a device like your CPU, ram, graphic card or so on drawing to much amps.
Check the MB for any signs of swelled, leaking or bursted caps, also look around the MB P/S connector for any resistors that have changed colors or are burnt.

100% Noob - Need Help for basic setup of Cisco 2504 and 1600 AP

I am completely noob in (cisco) networking.
I have to setup a basic but secure wireless network.
I have a cisco 2504 and 2 APs 1600 + a random switch
I have 4 ports on the controller.
I want to keep the 1st port on the network for the controller management, plug my internet box on the 3rd port, and my switch on the 4th port. Then the AP will be on the switch.
I am able to make something working when everythings are plugged on the switch, plugged in the first port (default management port).But this is not what I want.
First thing, Is that possible ?
1st port : office network
2nd port : empty
3rd port : Internet Box
4th port : Switch + all APs
Then, if that is possible, how should i configure the controller to make that work ? I am completely lost in the menus.
I dont need a perfect configuration, just something simple and working.
1 SSID, 10 DHCP addresses, block wireless users trying to go on the office network.
If anyone could help my doing that, It would be very nice.

I see links here and here, so a couple questions:
- what's the basic difference from a layman's (e.g., a manager's) perspective ?
- What training options are available for a generic 11g DBA to learn this new technology ? I've seen this course from an Oracle partner ("Course:Oracle 11g: RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration Accelerated Release 2"), for a boat load of money, for 5 days I think. So we're looking for something a little more reasonable (and accessible), e.g., books, online, etc.

For a very basic definition, RAC is technology that is used by the database and GI is the infrastructure that makes RAC work. In a forum reply, that's probably all what can be said about both. For a very lengthy answer, you should read the links that you have quoted.
For #2, the course that you are looking at is called Accelerated as it combines two courses in a single week training-RAC(4) and GI(3). So it's a 7 day curriculum that one would be doing in a 5 day course and that should justify its cost. But let me say, it's a really really good course. But on the other side, it can be quite overwhelming for someone who doesn't know about these technologies already. So I shall suggest that you send your team to each course individually and probably after doing some homework . They can start reading the following books,
