In need of a mac wiz-who knows something about external displays

I posted yesterday about my LG 19” Flatron LCD Monitor. I see that people have read the post, but no one seems to have an answer. Therefore, I thought I would ask again. I called apple support twice, but since my apple care expired a while back, they could only send me to articles in the support section. However, none were able to resolve the issue. There are 3 problems:
1. When the powerbook is turned off, lid closed, etc., if I plug my VGA adaptor into the powerbook, the computer immediately turns on. Please note- I did not hit the power button and the LG monitor is turned off- only plugged into the outlet.
2. Once the computer is on and the monitor is up and running, I cannot put the computer to sleep. The display will go to sleep for a second and then the computer will kick back on. Please note- I use my laptop at home like a desktop- the lid is closed and the computer is operating with the external display.
3. I cannot shut down the computer when the VGA adaptor is connected to my computer.
Concluding remarks- for some odd reason, the LG monitor is controlling the sleep and power functions of the powerbook. How can this be? Even the apple support person had no idea why the computer would turn on automatically once the VGA adaptor is connected.
Well, thank you for your time, and I hope there is someone out there who has some advice- even software that I can download which may allow me to control the power settings to put the computer to sleep.

Hi, composeras. I don't think I can shed any real light on your odd problem, but I have a couple of questions about it.

Are you sure the computer is actually shut down when this occurs, and not just sleeping? Plugging almost anything into the PB when it's asleep will normally wake it. Plugging things in when it's really turned off certainly shouldn't, and normally doesn't.
2. Once the computer is on and the monitor is up and running, I cannot put the computer to sleep...
Are any USB devices connected to the computer when this happens? Nothing fouls up system sleep like some USB devices do. Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse (are those Apple-branded, by the way?) before putting the machine to sleep, and see whether that makes any difference. If a USB hub is in use, that in itself could be the culprit. Some USB devices prevent sleep completely by communicating with the OS every few seconds or minutes. If your LG monitor itself contains a USB hub, disconnect it from your PB's USB port and see whether matters improve.

Is it necessarily that i define my Prepared Statements new after I created a new view.
The error is "NUllPointerException". Seem as my Statements aren't there anymore.
Is there a better solution to solve this problem?

Basically the PreparedStatement needs only to be updated if the underlying views/tables on the statement change. Well actually not the PreparedStatement but the SQL "source" for the statement.
A NullPointerException could indicate that some information that was previously retrieved (before changing the underlying view) is not longer available, but without any code nobody will be able to answer this question.

That's really enough information. You can update this iPad to iOS 6.1.2. If there is a microphone icon next to the space bar on the keyboard, you have an iPad 3. But if you are saying that it hasn't been touched for over a year, it probably is not the iPad 3. The iPad 3 is one year old this week IIRC.
If you want, you can go to Settings >General>About>Model to find the model number and it you Google that, you can find out which version of the iPad it is.
I just wanted to see what iOS you would be able to update to. I'm not sure what else to tell you other than what we've already stated. You should set this up as new, update the iOS and then start all over again with you own iTunes content.
The link that Eric posted would be a good place to start so that you can get an idea of what the iPad can do. If you want to restore the iPad back to factory settings, you will need to do this with iTunes on your Mac. You must be running OS X 10.6.8 at minimum and must be using iTunes 10.6.3 (I think) in order to syn with iTunes on the Mac.

if you are that uncomfortable trying to do this on your own, and if there is an Apple Store near you, make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and ask an Apple tech to help you with it. That is what they do. There is no charge for an Apple Store Genius Bar visit. The stores also offer classes for the iPad that you might find useful as well.

Please do you any body know something about Toshiba Satellite R10/R15/R20/R25 ? On the sites of Toshiba I haven't found any of this series. Why? Is it some model in progress? I need some good tabletpc with the largest screen and, because Tecra m7 is no longer available. So I found this but I know what is it and where is it?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!

we have a problem with GPD as part of IS Aerospace and defense which is now part of "DIMP" (Discret industrie and mill production".
We use GPD in 4.6C as a downgrade from 4.7 and now we are going to plan the upgrade to ECC 6.0.
We are now looking for customer of SAP with expierence in using DIMP, or the best way is sbd. with expierence in using DIMP with GPD.
1. We want to know something about the impact of using DIMP in our "normal" SAP
2. Is it possible to activate only parts of DIMP,A&D and so on.

There may be a new iPod coming up or there might not be. Apple has not made any announcment so we do not know.

I need to know something about computers

because I am basically and illiterate when buying one hehe I had a Satellite that had 256 MB and 40 Gb with 260 GHZ Celeron and found it a bit slow at times but it was sufficient now that it met with cake and icecream crammed into the keyboard I have to go get another one. I do online texting and basically have 4 or 5 pages open at once and I use skype. i have all my pics and music on an external drive. i use cricket wireless internet. what i need to know is what is more important for me to look at the whole 256 mb or the 40 gb or the ghz thing? also heard skype and toshiba dont work well but i just use it for ims not the whole phone thing. anyone someone help me please

They are all important in some way. The faster the CPU (the 260Mhz Celeron)is the more it can do in a short time. The more RAM you have the more smoothly your system will run when using multiple applications. The hard drive size is usually dependant on what you want to do and what you plan on installing. But given the fact you said your music and pics were stored on a external HD would at least lower the priority of a large hard drive. A netbook or lowend laptop would do you just fine. I would go with what ever gives you the best processor and largest amount of ram that is within your price range.

If the person is trying to send you DRM video, that won't open on the Mac unless you have a virtualization solution. Also chances are it won't be legal for you to open it on another computer than their own, unless they are willing to transfer the license to you for that video.
If they are sending you a newer type of video than WMP can handle, try Flip4Mac. And if Flip4Mac doesn't work you'll probably need to install Windows on your Mac to play it. Ask them the source they are sending you.

Physics for game developers book. I need to know something about this book.

1. On Amazon, the discription says it is for people with college leval math. I am only fourteen, so that won't work for me.

Basic physics equations etc. isn't that hard - GCSE
maths and science is enough to get a basic physics
demo up and running. If you've not covered these areas
yet you'll want to look into trigonometry (sin, cos
etc.) and the equations of motion (dealing with speed,
acceleration etc.).This is not true.
Figuring out the forces will give you some set of equations that relate accelerations, velocity and positions with some properties of the physical system you have. This is a system of second order differential equations, more or less complicated to solve, if you want to get position and velocity over time from it.
To solve this symbolically or to be able to write an algorithm that solves this numerically is something you learn at University, except for some very easy cases.
The book explains some of this.
Look at it but don't despair.
It is good enough if you get a physics engine in your hands, thus some ready coded routines that do the job of solving for you.
I believe that book has some.
