In need of an effective cooling solution

I'm in search of a highly effective cooling solution for a MacBook Air.
I have an 11" Air with an i7 processor which I use with a Thunderbolt display. I use this setup all day long as a primary computer, and it is hot almost all the time. I don't generally have a problem when I'm using the Air stand-alone, but as soon as I plug in the Thunderbolt, it heats up a lot. Right now the CPU temperature is around 70 degrees C, even though CPU activity is under 5%.
I'm using a bamboo cooling stand I got from MacAlly (ECOFANPRO) which lowers the temperature only a very small amount, not enough to keep the fan from going full blast.
I want something that will actually cool the computer down to where the internal fan doesn't have to run like this all day.
I've heard that cooling pads are effective for a few hours but I need something that works all day. I don't care what it costs.
I see tons and tons of cooling stands out there that are billed as "stylish" or "quiet" but I can't find a single example of either a manufacturer or a reviewer describing how effective their product is in terms of reducing heat. So it seems like all I can do here is guess.
Frank

Use a script such as:
tell application "Finder"
repeat with this_file in (get files of window 1)
make new folder at window 1 with properties {name:items 1 thru -5 of (get name of this_file) as string}
move this_file to the result
end repeat
end tell
when the 74 movies and no other files are in the frontmost Finder window. If the files aren't showing their extension, replace -5 with -1.

I have the Photoshop Elements 11 and when I use the stamp effect the image becomes totally black. It used to have my line drawing in white, now, just a black image. I need the stamp effect. also, most other effects simply crash the program.

Which operating system are you using?
Some filters like Filter>Sketch>Stamp need to have two different colors for the Foreground and Background set in the toolbox.
Press the D key to set the default toolbox color swatches to Black and White and then try the Stamp filter.
If your using mac os x 10.9 or 10.10, then some of the filters under Filter>Sketch will crash pse 11
They are Filter>Sketch>Comic, Graphic Novel and Pen and Ink
Otherwise resetting the pse11 editor preferences might resolve the crashing.
Go to Photoshop Elements Editor(Edit)>General, click on Reset Preferences on Next Launch and then restart the pse 11 editor

  • Anyone use Aftermarket Cooling Solutions on 270x or 280x?

Anyone who uses an aftermarket cooler on a 270x or 280x MSI Gaming gpu please chime in.
What make and model cooler are you using? What is the model and revision of your gpu? I am seeking coolers for both my 270x's and 280x's as the stock fans are of poor quality and have a high failure rate. 3 out of 4 of my cards have fan issues.
This is not such a simple thing to just google of course.
Those of us who know anything about aftermarket cooling know that not every GPU is made the same. Even different revisions of the same model can be drastically different when it comes to compatibility for aftermarket cooling solutions. A simple change on the gpu could mean one revision works and the next does not. I've run into this before with another brands gpu and aftermarket cooling.
Asking MSI Tech Support to recommend aftermarket cooling is not going to get any results as they will not assist a user in a process that may void warranty. Nor does MSI test their cards with other manufacturers cooling solutions.
That being said I am asking users what solutions they may have found already.
I have also contacted several aftermarket cooling manufacturers and they all say the same thing. Basically: "We can't confirm or deny compatibility as we cannot test every make/model/revision".
So MSI fans and devoted users. What have you been using?
    Thanks much!

The Arctic Mono Plus officially supports R9 270X and should also fit the MSI cards. It's plenty cooling for those cards. Alternatively Accelero Twin Turbo II could be used.
280X would work fine with Accelero Xtreme III or Alpenfoehn Peter

  • Does On-Premise TFS 2013 work with Office 365 natively or do I need an Exchange/O365 Hybrid solution?

Hello. We currently have an on-premise Exchange 2010 environment with 2 servers setup in a DAG. Our Development Department uses an on-premise TFS 2013 server for everything, they can't work without
it. Upper Management wants the IT Dept to move the company from on-premise Exchange 2010 DAG to Office 365. My concern is TFS 2013 since it uses AD and Exchange for workflow notifications. An employee's AD account is given permission to resources
inside TFS 2013 and since Exchange attributes are tied to their AD account they receive workflow notifications. My question is will I need to keep a permanent Exchange 2010/O365 Hybrid solution in-place in order for TFS 2013 to continue function
properly? If the answer is yes than that is fine, I am just looking for confirmation before I start the project. I would appreciate any advice on this topic.<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>

    Hi Cirbin,
As far as I know, it's not supported to integrate TFS 2013 with Office 365. You can check the
    link for more information.
For your situation, whether keep a permanent Exchange 2010/O365 Hybrid solution or not, you might open a new thread in SharePoint/Exchange forum for a better response.  From the thred, seems you need  to keep the hybrid solution.
And for integration Office 365 users to TFS, please vote the user voice

  • Quiet cooling solutions on MSI's new RADEON X and GeForce 6 series VGA cards? Which is quietest?

    Hi.
I am, like many people are at the moment I'd imagine, trying to find the ideal graphics solution for running Doom 3. Say what you will about it, but I've played it, and I for one want to get my hands on it in a bad way.
The problem is that my PC doubles as a crude workstation for digital recording, and my condensor mics tend to pick up even very faint sounds. My current system configuration is: P4 C 3.2GHz, ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo, 1GB DDR400 in dual channel, WD 3.6GB Raptor SATA HDD for OS and apps, and two 120GB Maxtor drives in RAID 1 for audio data storage, and the weak link as I call it, my gaming-inept Matrox Millenium 64MB. (Great for work...terrible for games, as expected). All this is running in the Antec Sonata case, and boy is it ever silent. I have to turn off my supposedly silent air filtration system across the room just to hear the PSU fan lol. It's been very good to me.
Doom 3 is the only game I intend to run on this system, simply because, call me crazy, but I am an old school Doom level editing addict, and I actualy like the tight narrow repetitive cooridor style gameplay it lets me enjoy. Furthermore, using editors feels alot like tinkering with my audio software, a feeling I very much savor.
I was going to go for a HIS Excalibur X800 IceQ II because they are supposedly extremely quiet, but darned if I can find one for sale anywhere on the planet. Lol.
So, I have decided to turn to MSI, who have never let me down with respect to near-silence in the past with their VGA cooling solutions.
    So my questions are:
    1) The NX6800 128MB (non-ultra, non-GT variety) is very quiet from what I hear, when the fan is set to the (default) lowest setting. Does the NX6800GT or Ultra feature the same cooling solution, and is it just as quiet, nearly as quiet, or noticeably louder than the plain variety?
    and
    2) I have heard in general that the new RADEON cards are much quieter than the GeForce 6 series cards. Does this hold true for MSI's X800 cards as well, and is the RX800 XT as quiet or quieter than the NX6800 or NX6800GT, etc. ?
Note that I care more about silence than performance. I would be perfectly happy running Doom 3 at 1024x768 at medium or even low settings, as long as I can keep the framerate smooth. I'm not very picky.
I would be truly grateful for anyone's assistance in this matter. Thanks very much in advance.

Thanks for the reply and the info.
Yes, they do run much quieter in 2D. But are there any decible readings anywhere on the net for the stock X800 PRO cooler (in 2d or otherwise)? I ask this because, let's face it, most reviewers tend to focus on the performance rather than the decible levels (as long as the noise level is tollerable to them, they usualy give scores without going into much detail about how loud or silent something is), and being quieter than the competing products doesn't neccesarily mean it's truly quiet.
Basicaly, by quiet, I mean so quiet that it would be hard to hear it unless I get closer than two feet to the tower, and even then, rather faint or even inaudible unless I actualy put my ear up to the tower. My mics are that sensitive. Is the X800 Pro that quiet with the stock reference cooler? I'm thinking it probably isn't, but I could be wrong. The Toxic Pro of course is more than quiet enough, but I have some concerns there.
I would prefer the X800 XT or, at the very least, the plain 6800 128MB, as they both (even the 128MB normal 6800) score higher consistently in Doom 3 benchmarks than the normal X800 Pro (not overclocked). While I'd prefer a 256MB card over a 128MB one, and Sapphire using the VGA Silencer on their Toxic Pro is a nice touch, that card overclocks the memory freq, which is a no-no with Doom 3 from what I've heard. Doom 3 doesn't like overclocked cards, as John carmack said, and that seems to be true given that I've heard lots of people complaining of artifacts with even moderately overclocked cards, be it the memory or core frequency. I could, of course, just not use the "A.P.E." functionality, and run it at stock X800 Pro speed, and with the silence on the Toxic Pro it would be great...but then why not just get the higher performing 128MB 6800 for roughly the same price or less?
    See my dilema? Lol.
Idealy, I'm hoping MSI's X800 XT or their GT or Ultra versions of the 6800 will have quiet cooling solutions. If they do, then it would save me alot of work making up my mind. No overclocking, guaranteed stability, total (or near total) silence, and guaranteed to handle Doom 3 (atleast fairly well... like I said, I'm not too picky), and I wouldn't feel short changed on performance either. As it stands now though, unless I can confirm whether or not they do, I'm going to have to settle for their standard (but extremely quiet) 6800 128MB.
Any further thoughts (anyone?) given the above considerations? Thanks again. I really appreciate it. Good idea on the Toxic Pro, just perhaps not ideal for my situation.

Sorry if I failed to award "points" properly.
    You know who you are!
I'll be better next time.  I won't use space for messages like this (only questions).

I have a few co-writes I get mailbox money for (enough $ to remind me that I am a "song" writer).
I am a visual artist for the most part.
What I am working on musically, primarily, are longer-playing instrumental pieces. Today I'm working on mix of one for my new website (it will accompany a video that was shot and edited by an award-winner...).  So music will play when my art video is playing.
Some of my paintings (cropped)  can be seen on my user profile. The art will give you an idea as to the music, perhaps?
I am looking forward to using Logic for adding my music to films of my visual art I shoot, but that is another day.  (Hopefully any software I need will be easily found, then!)
Can I hear your music online?

  • Need help identifying effect in RH8

    Hello!
I recently installed RH8. I was looking at the Help (Adobe
Help Viewer 2) and found a cool effect in the Help that I would
like to use in my project, but I'm not sure what it is. It looks a
bit like a DHTML drop-down hotspot, except the hotspot is removed
    when clicked.
Here's how it works: There is a hotspot phrase ("View full
size graphic") and a small graphic underneath. When the phrase is
clicked, the phrase and small graphic disappears and is replaced by
another hotspot ("View small graphic") and the large graphic. So
you can click back & forth, replacing the hotspot & graphic
    displayed each time.
This effect can be found in the Adobe Help Viewer 2, under
    Exploring the workspace>Workspace overview.
I'm not an expert, but when I've used the DHTML drop-down
hotspot, the hotspot remains on the window when clicked. I also
played around with the trigger/target, but I couldn't make that fit
the effect either, although maybe I'm not configuring it properly?
    Hope somebody can help me.
    Thanks!

    Hi all
To add to what Colum said, I saw the post last night and
quickly looked at the page. Here is my own observation after
    picking things apart.
Firstly, we all need to be aware that while the page is
presented using Adobe AIR, it's not part of AIR. Think of the AIR
help viewer as being similar to the browser, but specialized. I
believe in this case, it's kind of like a hybrid between the CHM
viewer and a Web Browser. Like the CHM viewer, it's a specialized
application for displaying content. But like a Web Browser, that
content simply exists as a collection of pages on a server. For
example, I can view the same page in my FireFox web browser using
    the link below:
    Click
    here to view
After picking the page apart, I determined that some
JavaScript is being used to provide that effect. And it's quite a
neat one! The JavaScript function seems to be titled
showHideImage and is found in a linked JavaScript file
    called
    help.js.
So here's the kicker. I do not believe the page in question
was created using RoboHelp. If it was, maybe this is a preview of
    coming attractions?
If not, I would think that at least that function
should be added to RoboHelp among its many DHTML effects.
    Click
here to view the WishForm/Bug Reporting Form
    Cheers... Rick

  • Need a more effective way to kill ipv6...

In a previous episode, I explained that I needed to kill ipv6. At one point, I did this by blacklisting the relevant module. After support was integrated in the kernel, I switched to using
    net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
    in sysctl.conf.
This has been enough for most purposes. It allows me to connect to my campus's wireless network, for example.
However, I've been having a separate networking issue (involving ssh) and in an attempt to make absolutely sure that my LAN set up at home was not interfering in any way, I tried to establish a direct, wired connection via my ISP's box (I initially wrote "router" but I'm not sure a cable modem is a router) rather than connecting via the wireless LAN. To be honest, this wasn't the bit I expected not to work. (I also didn't expect to enrage anybody by doing this but apparently I did even though I tried to hide under the piano as much as possible. That's probably not a relevant side-effect, though.)
    1) I expected wicd to handle this automatically but that didn't work. wicd has been a bit flaky with wired connections recently and I'm wondering if that flakiness is connected.
    2) Eventually, I just stopped wicd.service and got a root prompt.
    3) As I understand it, something like the following should work:
    ip link set eth0 up
    dhcpcd eth0
However, it doesn't. I can bring the interface up just fine but dhcpcd can't get a lease. I also tried passing the -f inet option to ip but that didn't make a difference. Examining the output and the logs, this seems to be because it repeatedly tries ipv6 but never falls back to ipv4:
    $ dhcpcd eth0
    dhcpcd[13128]: version 5.6.2 starting
    dhcpcd[13128]: eth0: sending IPv6 Router Solicitation

dhcpcd[13128]: eth0: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
    dhcpcd[13128]: eth0: no IPv6 Routers available
    dhcpcd[13128]: timed out
This was pretty much the behaviour I saw before and ended with the line above in systemctl. It is also pretty much what I get in the log:
    Sep 24 23:19:48 <hostname> dhcpcd[13375]: dhcpcd not running

    Sep 24 23:20:20 <hostname> dhcpcd[13384]: timed out
Note that this is not a general problem with wired networking. If I plug in the ethernet cable for my home LAN (so I'm not connecting directly to the ISP's box but, rather, indirectly via a router which is part of my home LAN), wicd has no trouble switching to eth0, getting an ip address and letting me ping www.example.com. From the log:
    Sep 25 00:30:44 <hostname> dhcpcd[29164]: version 5.6.2 starting

How do I kill ipv6 support more effectively and/or tell dhcpcd to use ipv4?
Right now, I would love to scrub ipv6 from my machine - I have yet to come across a network which actually supports it. Indeed, having it around just seems to kill networking on every network I use. (Note: this is just frustration - I think it is quite good to have it available in case I ever find somewhere to use it. I just need to kill it off for all practical purposes so I can connect until that happy day arrives.)
I did see that some people have recently had some issues with Atheros ethernet although not precisely my version:
    $ lspci -s 08:00.0 -v
08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8151 v2.0 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0)
Subsystem: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8151 v2.0 Gigabit Ethernet
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 45
    Memory at d0c00000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256K]
    I/O ports at 2000 [size=128]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3
    Capabilities: [48] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+
Capabilities: [58] Express Endpoint, MSI 00

    Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting
Capabilities: [180] Device Serial Number xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx

However, I'm not using NetworkManager and I'm not seeing anything like the same error - I can bring eth0 up just fine. It is only the getting-a-lease bit where I hit trouble. (And it works fine on the LAN but not directly via the ISP's box.)

Is this the connection that you're talking about and having all the trouble with; connecting directly via the cable modem?
IME with cable modems, they do NOT provide router services (as you've hinted at). That includes NOT providing any kind of IP services - IPv4 or IPv6. They are purely a modem (modulator/demodulator) to translate between the ethernet side of the modem and the ISP's cable side of the modem.
With that in mind, I would not expect any kind of DHCP request to be responded to. The device connected to the modem (a computer or dedicated router) needs to perform the authentication etc to the ISP and establish a connection over the cable network first, via the modem. THEN you can make DHCP requests which the new connection will transport to the ISP to be honoured.
Sorry if I've misread what you're actually trying to do when you have the issue, and as I said, this is just IME. I could be wrong.
Thanks. That's not how this ISP does it. It did used to be that way but not now. Basically, the modem is authenticated. If you need a new one, a technician has to come out, install it and then call somebody to authorise that modem to connect to their network. There's no additional authentication done from the computer side of it. I've connected a computer plenty of times direct to the modem in the past and I've always got a lease. What's happening is that my computer never even tries for ipv4. You can watch it trying and it never falls back from ipv6.
