In need of first home laptop

i am in need of our families first home computer. i would like to have a laptop, so that we all can float around the house with it. with this computer we will be primarily internet surfing, emailing, and downloading pictures and such. My boys are young and will not be playing with the computer, however i would like to be able to download from leapfrog and such. my "wants" include: wireless, nice screen size (don't want to scroll around to see everything), enough memory and speed to not send me crazy!, and affordable (around the $500 mark).
along with the wireless issue . . . what will i need from my provider and/or for the laptop? thanks!

The turion processor is more than sufficient for home use, and with 4gb of ram, you don't have to worry about your computer becoming outdated(and slow) for a while.
That being said, with high speed internet you have a couple options. Depending on your area you're going to have cable, DSL, or broadband cards. Cable has the highest speeds, DSL has the most reliable connection, and broadband cards have the most freedom. If you want just a home connection either go with cable or DSL, if you want something you can travel with, go with a broadband card. The only downside to the broadband card is that it's a 2-year contract, and has a transfer limit on how much data you can use per month.
If you get cable or DSL you will need a wireless router to make your signal wireless, and that's something you don't have to pay monthly for on top of the regular internet fees. Expect the hardware to be around $70, and if this is your first computer, it might be a good idea to have the Geek Squad set it all up for you, so that you can have wireless, and peace of mind that it's password protected.
If the kids are going to use it for school, or you're going to use it for work, you will want to pic up Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point), which doesn't come with any new computers anymore, but if Not, it's not really something you need to worry about at the moment.

Keep Java (not JavaScript) disabled in all your browsers and if you have not installed it yet, don't do so unless you are told that you need it in order to run a critical application or visit a web-site that you must use.
You won't need your Firewall turned on as long as you are on a trusted network using a strong WPA2 password for WiFi, such as your home or workplace, but be sure to turn it on when you need to take your MBP to Starbucks or some other public hotspot.

Need minor credit boost for first home

Evening all, First post on the forums. I hope this is not in the wrong section as I was not sure whether to post in the mortgage section or the credit repair section. Kind of a long story but here it goes. My GF and I (23 and 25) are preparing to buy our first home. We do not have much money to put down, so we are looking into the 100% Financing option from Navy Federal (We have already been pre-approved for an FHA loan through Navy Federal, but would like to go for the 100% Financing as this program requires no PMI). However, the limit for the tier 1 interest rates for this program is 720+. The tier 2 interest rates would give us about the same monthly payments as the FHA, so I figure going for the tier 1 rates is the only option for a lower payment. My GF has credit scores between 740-760, but I am sitting at 695 (Eq), 697 (Ex) and 718 (TU). I was lower back in April (660ish), but since then I have paid off ALL credit card debt (was previously around 80% utilization) and I got a negative remark removed from my account that did not belong to me. However, I still have student loans that I am repaying, one of which belongs to Campus Partners. Unfortunately, last year I ran into medical problems on two occassions (related, but occurred at different times of the year) and the quarterly payment for my student loan totally slipped my mind (I wish it had been monthly instead of quarterly). Thus, I have a 30 day late for Campus Partners from February 2014 and a 60 day late from Nov/Dec, which I then paid off the loan in full. I have sent Goodwill Letters (multiples) to Campus Partners (As well as emailed the letter to the Presdient and Financial CEO) with the same response everytime saying they MUST report all data (The most recent response today had multiple portions bolded--I get the feeling they are getting annoyed by me :-P). I am going to continue sending in letters with the hopes that they have a change of heart (unlikely), but am looking for any way to improve my credit 20-25 points so that we may qualify for the mortgage program we desire. My AAoA is not great (3.5 years roughly), but I have no credit card utilization, and just those 2 late payments on my credit. My father offered to put me on one of his credit cards as an authorized user, but I do not know if this will work or if the mortgage lender will accept it in my credit report (will they throw it out for the mortgage loan?). Will just paying bills on time and using/paying off my CC every month increase my credit in a reasonable time, or will this be a very slow process with those late payments tarnishing me? If anyone has any advice to improve my credit by roughly 20 points quickly, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest both are irrelevant if you're trying to clear a FICO hurdle. AU in general only helps if:1) It changes your utilization calculation in a good way (high limit, $0 balance ideal)2) It improves your AAOA by being longer than your other tradelines (or the average of them to be specific, earlier open date the better) - not sure that's the case here.3) Of course, needs to be a pristine tradeline If you think it'll help in your situation meeting those critera, I'd add it personally. AU's will be counted under all of the mortgage trifecta so there's no problem on that count. Regarding addressing the 60 day late, hit the Rebuilding forum as the experts live there and I'm not one of them on that subject; sometimes OC's have been known to just whack the whole tradeline, what I was trying to get across was any way you can get that off, just take it, even if it comes up with a compromise of they'll delete the account record if you stop bothering them rather than just nullifying the lates.

The computer on a trip will do snapshot backups on the hard drive that will then be incorporated into the Time Machine backup once you get it back home. See

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed.
To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.

Need help planning home stereo system utilizing Itunes,iPs, airplay

the internet is overwhelming me with Info, so I will ask you guys my question.
How to best build a home stereo system playing my itunes libraries.
Here are my stats:
Itunes library is housed in external 1 TB drive, worked off a Windows laptop ( Sony Viao)
I have and use two Itunes accounts ( one for US and one for Germany store)
Have an older Ipod click ( older gen, ), I phone 4S and Ipad 2,
will be upgrading to new iphone and ipad this year.
What I want to do:
At the moment we have no home stereo system or home theater. Been happy using the HDMI connector playing video from Ipad to TV. To be honest I do most of my TV viewing directly from the Ipad as it's very transportable.
Music I listen more with headphones, but have been missing my old hi-fi system from 10 years ago, which I no longer have. ( Birthing and raising 2 kids the past 8 years made me forget what I have missed . ).
Anyways it's time to get serious again.
I need to first start with a basic receiver and speakers.
Question 1:
What kind of a receiver do you recommend? There are so many options now besides hooking DVD/CD player to Receiver/tuner. Now you have wifi options ( airplay etc...). where I understand you can stream your itunes movie/music wifi. We would want a traditional DVD/CD hook up and itunes.
Question 2:
Digitial Quality: Does streaming via airplay to a receiver give digitial quality in music? I read that most Iphone/pod docks only offer analog hookup. What about digital. I know there are a few ie. Onkyo ND-S1 that are digitial. Does airplay give the same quality over wifi as a hook-up??
Question 3: I am willing to have most of my library on a ipod/ipad , but what would be the best way to access my itunes library via the exterrnal drive WITHOUT having to run a computer?? also do Airplay and appletv work together, same thing? or need both?
Question 4: Our house is big and not open. this means investing in a single set- up in main area downstairs. But what are some cheaper options ( Sonos too much money for us) for a system more spread out. Can I run from one receiver one set of speakers with wire hook-up in main room and wireless elsewhere . and how does the wireless work ( wifi?)
I hope I made sense, kinds still brainstorming in my head.

1. When you say 'Archive entire CD collection...' I assume you are talking about loading all your CDs into one or more iTunes libraries?
2. Assuming one or more iTunes libraries then all you need to do is set the import options correctly. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using Apple Lossless Encoder
3. This would seem to indicate you need one iTunes library. It is the computer that is authorised: iTunes: About Music Store authorization and deauthorization
4. For each user to have unique song ratings you will need multiple iTunes libraries.
If Lossless and AAC are in the same Library then Smart Playlists will do the trick as you can have the condition 'Kind does not contain Apple Lossless'
You can set the view options to show you what Kind of track in iTunes.
Hope this gets you going on the right tracks.

Sync ith only one computer. When you sync with the second anything acquired from the first computer will be erased. Syncing back with the first computer will erase everything synced from the second computer.
Put all your stuff on one of the computers and sync with only that one.

No, as many times as you need. Log into the App store with the same Apple ID you used when you first downloaded it. Where it says Purchase, option click and it will change to install. Next time you download it, before you install, keep a copy on a USB drive or external drive to save downloading it again and wasting power and Bandwidth.

Need help adding 2nd laptop to router WRT160N

I need to add another laptop to our home network so it can connect to our internet connection. The 2nd laptop shows our home network as an available network connection, however, when I try to connect and enter in the key, the computer gives me a message "please wait while windows connects to the xxxxxx network- waiting for the network" This message stays for approximately 45 seconds then disappears, leaving me at the wireless network connection screen. I have confirmed the network key is correct.
I can connect to the internet if I choose an unsecure connection so I am wondering what other items I need to configure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, those sound like they should be compatible security modes.
What I'd suggest is to reboot your second laptop and power-cycle the router, see if that helps you to be able to connect both laptops.
If that doesn't help, then write down any configuration data that you'll need to re-enter after resetting the router. There's a recessed reset switch on the back of your router, hold that in for about 30 seconds and release it. This will set the router back to factory defaults, so you'll need to re-enter your configuration data using the router web GUI. Then try again to reconnect with both laptops, and see what happens. Please post the results from trying these.

I need my first page to load blank!

I need the first page to load blank (just a transparent background would do) but at the moment it's loading the first page of text. I want the text to appear when I hit the home button (named: mc.menuBtn1_btn). I'm having a little problem with the following code. Any ideas welcome
I want the buttons to slide in on the x from left to right and then settle in position, with no text on screen.
Then, when I hit the home button, the home page appears, followed by all the other buttons in the menu I decide to click.
I don't want to create scenes as it's all in AS3.

I'll assume that you are referring to p1. If you don't want it to appear, then you should set its alpha value to 0 before you add it to the display list...

If the text is remains visible, then chances are you are using a dynamic textfield and have not embedded the font in it.

There is life during Ch 13 Bankruptcy. Just closed on our first home

Long story short: During my college years, I went overboard with private student loans and credit card debt that I didn't need. Sounded great at the time until it was time to pay and there was no chance for a consolidation. Didn't let my wife know (yeah, big mistake) until we applied for our first home loan back in 2011. At the time, payments were too much and and decided for some relief through Ch 13 bankruptcy by myself, Bankruptcy ends November 2016 4 years later and close to $8k saved up, we gave it the ol college try through a mortgage broker. After 3 days and a lot of documents, we were preapproved for the $220,000 house that we wanted at 4.00% interest. With an extremely low DTI ratio for the both of us, her excellent credit and my improving credit (640, 630 609) we breezed through underwriting and got our keys on July 24th. So satisfiying that there is hope even when things may seem down. Here are some tips that may help those who are in the same situation:- Speak with your attorney and see what he thinks how the local trustee, especially the judge. Do allow at least 45 days max in case you need to challenge it in court- Pay all trustee payments on time, every time. My lender required 18 months of on time payments- No car payments! We started off with two cars in our plan and we paid them off a few years back, helped us out a lot for DTI- Helped that my wife has great credit- My credit scores were in the dumps for about a year until my wife added me as an authorized user which raised my scores a ton- Be upfront about EVERYTHING. I needed to write a letter explaining why and ow I got into the mess and where I'm at now- Do wait until your last "bump" of payments before applying for the mortgage.- Traditional banks did not want to touch me with a 10' pole until 3 years AFTER my bankruptcy was over. A broker is the better way to go, IMO. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

I got a problem with Sound in Windows 8 Operating System (hP G60 model)..Device drivers are installed properly ..!! I need to restart my laptop every time problem occurs..if i restart the laptop, sound is working fine..!!..I have no idea why its not coming sound when i first switch on laptop.!every time i need to restart laptop for sound.! one more problem is if i haven't used laptop for 15-20min it goes sleeping mode and when i used back - again facing same problem.!!..Does i need to install any drivers?..Does it require?..Plz help me out..Thank your for your help in advance.!!

One thing to check is the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall. When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'. You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
When windows has reloaded, you may or may not need to use recovery manager to reinstall your original Audio Driver as detailed in the document on the link below.
Recovery Manager - Windows 8.
