IN NEED OF HELP PURCHASING A MACBOOK PRO

Hi! I might buy a Macbook Pro 15 today. It is a late 2008 model brand new.
I am wondering if this a deal of a lifetime. I would love any feedback. It costs $1575, would you buy?!? (specs are below)
*2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Processor*
*4GB DDR3 RAM*
*250GB 5400RPM HDD*
*Integrated NVIDIA 9400M Graphics Card*
*Discrete NVIDIA 9600M GT 256MB Graphics Card*

Actually not a bad deal. IF it truly is NEW and not a refurb. The cost is less than the newer June 2009 15" MBP, but it has both the graphics cards - integrated 9400m and dedicated 9600m. The new entry level 15" only has the 9400m processor. This model will also only support 6GB of RAM where as the newer one will support 8GB of RAM and the processor is just a tinge slower than the 2.53GHz processor - so that is a bit of a trade off. When these came out last year they started at over $2,000. There are a few other minor differences...but all in all...not a bad deal.

  • I need advice on purchasing a Macbook Pro

    Hello!
I am seeking advice on purchasing my very first Mac (and notebook) very soon. I am a Graphic Design student and I'll primarily be using it for running the Adobe CS programs (photoshop, indesign etc). I don't really plan to do any gaming or major video rendering. Money is an issue here and I'll have to purchase the adobe software as well. I am looking at three options here:
    13 inch Macbook Pro 2011 (2.3 GHz i5, $1,099)
    15 inch Macbook Pro 2010 (Refurbished 2.4 GHz i5 $1,269)
    15 inch Macbook Pro 2011 (Refurbished 2.0 GHz i7 $1,529)
The main concerns with the 13 inch MBP are the display size/resolution and the Integrated Graphics. Although I have a 22 inch external monitor at home, I am hoping the MBP's screen won't be an issue when I'm on campus or if I get a job. As for the Graphics, will it be sufficient enough for Motion Graphic programs such as Adobe After Effects or Apple Motion 5? If they aren't a problem, then I'll be leaning towards the 13 inch since I would also qualify for the $100 back to school promotion. As for the 15 inches, are the refurbished models the way to go? I'm a bit worried about purchasing a used MBP that's probably been used for around a year. If the 13 inch's screen size isn't sufficient and there are little to no problems with refurbs, then I might go with the 15 inch 2.4 GHz i5. Thanks for your time and input.

Elgato EyeTV registers the following issues on: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/start
    EyeTV Lite 1.3.2 (5247)
    None.
EyeTV 2.5.3 (3313) Remote control problems. Using the play/pause and menu buttons when using EyeTV trigger Front Row and iTunes at the same time.
EyeTV 3.1.2 (5237) Some users are experiencing digital audio problems; refer to this page to get a beta preview of version 3.1.3
    http://www.macintouch.com/specialreports/snowleopard/slcompat.html
says version 3.2 is already available and fully compatible. It would sound that the Wiki hasn't been updated to include those experienced with 3.2. Maybe you want to submit a wiki update when you get an Intel Mac. To confirm, Macintouch is not a typo:
    http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/support.en.html#Snow%20Leopard
It says version 3.2 is fully compatible. Version 3.1.3 which was a beta also mentioned on Macintouch is earlier than version 3.2. That's how they go about doing versions in the software world. So barring some unforseen bug, you should be good to go with EyeTV. Use both websites listed above to determine software compatibility. Sometimes one may be more current than the other. Apple has also made a current list of compatible printers and scanners here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
Regardless of the compatibility, upgrading you should always make a couple backups ahead of time, in case of hidden issues with your machine. See my FAQ* on upgrading:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
If you find you need a Leopard 10.5 compatible Intel Mac for your other software, purchase a used or refurbished Mac that was made prior to August 28, 2009 with the guidelines on my FAQ*:

  • I need urgent help with my macbook pro, installed a theme and now unable to open windows, please help !

    Hello,
I installed a theme on OS X Lion that was actually made for snow leapor, because on a youtube video someone said it works with Lion too,
After installing it I got problems seeing close and minize icons.
And After reinstalling my Macbook pro, I am unable to open finder, Safari, Terminal etc.
I have tried to get help from several help forums, and tried changing files as described here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3256533?start=0&tstart=0
    Theme was downloaded from here

Okay, it's both for your first question: When I import the songs to the library, the songs are not in the correct order as they were on the CD. And, in the process of my importing the songs, the library scrambles the songs in different sections of the library (I explain further below)
I don't know what you mean by "little triangle" pointing up or down. What's that got to do with the price of fish in China? lol
When I get the music in the library the songs come out sorted this way: 2 songs from CD 1 appear one section of the library, then 1 song from CD 2 appears in the next column, along with the album work. Then, I go down farther, and there's a few more of the songs from CD 1 in the next section. I go down again, and maybe 2 or 3 songs are in that column. Along with the artwork for that CD. Then I scroll down again in the library, and there's maybe 3 or 4 songs from CD 1 there. Get the picture? It keeps sorting the songs in that order. And yes, the CDs I was importing were compliation dance CDs, along with some from the same artist, like Barry Manilow.
I hope I answered the questions better so that you can help me Thanks in advance, Glenn

  • I need advice after purchasing a MacBook Pro in the USA for use in the UK.

    Hello all out there,
I bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro in the USA last week and brought it back with me to the UK. I had been given an Apple World Adapter kit by the gentleman in the apple store, however I realised today that it isn't for the MacBook Pro and is only for iPads, iphones and ipods. This means that despite paying around $40, I am stuck. I need advice as to how to charge the laptop in the UK now? Is there an adapter for this or can I use any ordinary USA to UK adapter and stick it to the one I have from the USA?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Zainab

AFAIK, the World Adapter kit has a replacement PLUG for the power brick. What you need is just something that can go into your country's wall socket, as the power brick itself is universal and can work from 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
In other words, you ARE aware that the power brick has removable plugs on the AC end, right?

  • Hello, I need help with my macbook pro. It looks like I cannot install anything anymore. Everytime I try to install a new software, use the migration assistant or click the lock to make changes, it simply does not react.

Hello, I need help with my macbook pro.
It looks like I cannot install anything anymore. Everytime I try to install a new software, I simply get stuck during the installation type process. I put in my password, it does accept it, but it does not go any further.
I tried to reset the password, put no password, repair the permissions, the disk but nothing will do. I nearly got stuck with the log in screen but finally succeeded in disabling it.
So I thought I might try to create a new account but I cannot click the lock to make changes. It simply refuses to react.
I am now thinking about using the migration assistant to save all my settings, data and so fourth, but again I get stuck when I have to type in my password. It accepts it but nothing happens...
I guess it has something to do with the authorization process, but can't find anything on the internet about it... Can you help me out?
    I am running Lion 10.7.3.
    Regards,
    Nicolas.
(I apologize if any grammatical/structural mistakes were to be found, english is not my mother-tongue. )

You probably won't like this suggestion, but I suggest you reinstall Lion.
First, backup your system. Next, reboot your system, press/hold the COMMAND-R keys to boot into the Recovery HD. Select 'Reinstall Mac OS X'. If you purchased Lion as an upgrade to Snow Leopard, the reinstall process will install Lion 10.7.3. If your system came preinstalled with Lion, you might still get Lion 10.7.2. Both installs are a total install of the OS. None of your apps or data will be impacted. Just the OS.

    Hello Unconscious2015,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are trying to configure your Mac to use SMS continuity with your iPhone, then please follow the directions below to configure SMS Continuity.
To use Continuity for SMS and MMS with your iPhone and your Mac, iPad or iPod touch
Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch need to use iOS 8.1, and your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
Sign in to iMessage on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac using the same Apple ID.
    On your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support
    Take care,
    Alex H.

You will need to sign up for your own Apple ID and then buy and download Lion by calling Apple and getting a redemption code.
    Good Luck

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

I purchased my macbook pro 2nd hand and then purchased Lion online thru the apple store and today when I tried to update some of the software I got the message that it was corrupt. Can anyone help me?

Did the message say what was corrupt. It is not clear from your description of "...it was corrupt" what "it" is. Sounds like the download of Lion was corrupt. Download it again. Downloaded files sometimes get corrupted due to network connection glitches or interruptions.

If you have to wonder which RAM is the correct type, you probably aren't buying from a store that will give you the right RAM.  Many stores specify model and vintage of Mac on their website to ensure you get the right RAM.  Check my FAQ*:

To be able to use documents at iCloud.com, you need at least one iOS device that uses the same account with at least one of the iWork apps installed.
