In need of serious aid.

Hello all. I appreciate any advise as I am in a true bind and need assistance desperately.
I recently changed my Yahoo email password on a computer, (as you cannot change your password on the Ipad from my understanding). After changing the password successfully and with it still fresh on my mind I entered the new password on my Ipad and it, of course, was successfully able to open email with the new correct email password. Careless me, however, never jotted it down and now I cannot remember at ALL what I had changed my password to. A mistake that I will never make again. So, although my current password is unknown to me, I am still able to access it through my Ipad because the password of course saved onto the email account information. However, I cannot access email on a computer or even change option on my account because lack of password. And when I try to view the saved password on the email account information it just appears as 8 dots for security reasons I'm sure. (The only clue of my password is that it contains 8 characters apparently). My question to anyone willing to reply is if there is any way to retrieve my password (because keep in mind I can still access my email through exclusively my Ipad due to the saved unknown password) or to view my password in something other than security dot form on the email account information. I even tried copy and pasting it but to no avail as it didn't allow me to do so. I know it was quite frankly stupid not to write it down in the first place but now I ask for advise on what to do in this situation. My problem is quite unique considering I couldn't find another person asking this question while I searched the Web. Thanks for taking the time to read and I welcome any helpful words. Thank you immensely!

I sincerely thank you for the suggestion but I forgot to mention some important information, I already tried doing as you all suggested to try to retrieve my password but I made this account a very long time ago and my alternate email to have my password sent to was deactivated because I hadn't used it in so long so I really have no existing alternate email. And as for the security questions, I can't get past even the first question. I answer to the question as accurately as I can but apparently that's not exactly what I put as an answer to the question long ago. (Keep in mind it's case sensitive). I have no idea where to go from this point. Does anyone have a link where I could talk to a representative either from Yahoo mail (so they can help me find out my password through proving my identity and ownership of the account) or Apple (so they can help me somehow retrieve and view my saved password on the email information).

  • BdAqua, anyone.. I need some SERIOUS advise here..

For many of you I have been on these forums for quite sometime and now I am in need of SERIOUS advice. With the acquisition of a Power Mac G5 Quad taking over most of my everyday activities which I do on my mac pro, I am in desperate need of trying to figure out how I can get the best out of my 2009 mac pro of which I worked so hard in making it a 6-core 2010 machine.. Now I am thinking I might have gone overboard, way overboard as I am not making use of the machine and its fullest potential. I don't have really a lot of income coming in right now as I am unemployed, though I am getting a pension and unemployment, but not enough to buy serious applications for taking advantage of the power in my mac pro.
Can someone advise on how I can get the best out of my 6-core mac pro without having to spend 1000's of dollars on stuff I may or may never ever need? Other than video editing, is there any other way I can get the best out of using my machine for what its intended for? Here is what I currently use my mac pro for, thus far:
    1. Everyday stuff, browsing internet, forums, emailing.
    2. sometimes I will burn two dvds/cd's simultaneously, sometimes not.
    3. Retro gaming though I do have some older modern games I play from time to time.
    4. I had bootcamp installed, but no more as I can do most of the work I need on the OS X platform.
    5. When I ever get dvds, I rip them using handbrake just to take advantage of all my cores, even though mactheripper is much faster and only uses some of the cores.
As of right now most of the above I do on my newly acquired Power Mac G5 Quad and my mac pro is on the floor, disconnected and not being used. The problem is that I got the mac pro because of its expandability and I realize my BIGGEST MISTAKE here was that it is in no way a consumer type machine, but for many years I have used desktop macs for my purposes and expansion.
This is my only intel mac, as my PB G4 is being used for my mobile computing and does everything I throw at it, Power Mac G5 does also what I through at it. The G4 Pismo is only used for OS 9 nostalgia to if I ever have a yearn to retro back to the beginning days of OS 9
Question: With my limited amount of funds, what can I do to get the best out of my Mac Pro?? I don't want to sell it for something cheaper or less, as I really do love the expansion capability of the mac pro and its case for prolonging the system. I don't plan on getting a future mac pro as for what I use it for it certainly would be a waste.
I know I have been rude to some of you and I know its been a rocky road between all of you on this forum and me, but I am now in a desperate, precarious position.. What really can I use my mac pro for other than using it like my PM G5 Quad? I am starting to also think the Quad is overkill, but nevertheless, I have a love for both Intel and PowerPC. And yes, I plan on getting Lion as I do want my mac pro to keep up with at least software and updates to the OS.
    Thank you!
    Romko

LOL, I think the G5s are already obsolete & a Legacy Mac as far as Apple is concerned, yet MHz per MHz they can still compete favorably with the right SW.
    >Ok, can the G5 Quad still do good with elementary audio and video software?
    Yes.
    >What do you think? The mac pro makes a good server?
    Oh yes.
    >I do plan on getting Lion when it comes out for my mac pro however.
I wish I could comment on Lion, but NDA, NDA, NDA.
    >Also, is it true I won't be able to charge an ipod touch with the G5's USB ports?
No iPods here, but Macs have traditionally been weak in USB amperage, I'd think if all else fails an AC powered USB hub would vertainly cure it.
    >Define obsolete?
No longer supported by Apple... so what's new?
Right now Leo/10.5.x is still fairly well supported, but when a new OS hits I expect that to stop.
BTW, we're not llowed to speculate here, so call that a blind guess!

  • Home Phone Service via Verizon Wireless needs some SERIOUS rethinking!

Has anyone else signed up for home phone service over Verizon Wireless?
Here in LA, they offered a $19.99/month deal using the wireless service - a box provides the service, and you plug your home phone in. The service is adequate, but somebody forgot to think about how home phones work. I tried to get my billing set up through my bank, and after getting no notice for three weeks, I got a message in my email box that my bill was delinquent, and I owed a late fee. I had tried to set up the billing via My Verizon, but could never get a password to work. I finally got a phone number to call, and they sent me a new password via text message - to a home phone with no text capabilities. After hearing and seeing nothing for another two weeks, I called again, and they told me they'd sent the message. I had to remind them that this was a home phone - no texts. So they offered to send me a letter with a new password, within 7-10 ten days. It arrived two weeks later, and didn't work. Each of these phone calls took about an hour, and I still didn't have a connection.
I put the bills (now up to two delinquent cycles) on my credit card, just to bring thins current, and got one more password. This time I called BEFORE trying it, and with the assistance of a more determined tech, got an ID and password combination to work. I can now see my bill. I still don't know if the autopay will work, and I have no idea if there's any way to get a notice that the bill wasn't paid.
I cancelled my AT&T service because of its cost, but at least its billing worked. Verizon has some serious rethinking to do about how it's billing system works for home users. And they didn't lock me into billing hell for two years.
The topper is, today, I got a notice from Verizon that I've been delinquent in returning a refurbished instrument I never received, billed to a phone number I don't have. And of course there's no phone number to call to straighten it out.

        Hello KeyGroupGJ!
Wow, Im sorry for all the issues you have had with the Home Phone Connect service! I'd really like to assist you. You mentioned that there is no number to call to get this straightened out. No worries, there is no need to call us, since I can reach out to you. Please send me a direct message with your name, your mobile number, and a good contact number for you. I'll be happy to assist you!

  • I NEED SOME SERIOUS HELP! PLEASE!

    I have a power mac G4 with OS 10.1.5
Let me start of by saying this computer has never been hooked up to the internet since i have had it, so I know its virus free.
Listen to all the funky stuff that's been going on with my machine.
I started off with OS 9.2 and about a year or so after OS 10 came out, I went out and purchased a copy of 10.1.5, loaded it on my computer and was golden..... until about 3 months ago. From out of nowhere, it started to boot up in OS 9.2 again with no sign of OS 10.1.5 anywhere. (strange) I ran the 10.1.5 Disk again, and it started up fine again. Two weeks later, I moved to a new house, set up my power mac G4 and BOOM it happened again. I searched for the next to weeks for the disk again (I'm not the most organized person) when i found it it was badly damaged! To the point of not working. Moving *****! I played around for a while to trouble shoot my issue... I couldn't figure anything out, but one day it started to boot back in OS 10. It was working fine, but taking a while to start up. I thought it could be that i needed to update the software. so using my laptop (pc) i downloaded all the updates that were on the mac website for that OS version and installed them in the order that was instructed. rebooted. Nothing loaded. it just sat at the start up screen for a while. I rebooted again this time in single user mode and got the following message:
    disk0s9: 0x8 (UNDEFINED).
so i ran fsck and got this message:
    ** /dev/rdisk0s9
    ** Root file system
    ** Checking HFS Plus volume.
    ** Checking Extents Overflow file.
    ** Checking Catalog file.
    disk0s9 0x8 (UNDEFINED).
    Keys out of order
    Any Ideas?

An older copy of Disk Warrior should be able to fix such a problem, but unfortunately disk repair wasn't as effective with 10.1.x. Of course you can boot from your OS X installer disc from which you can run Disk Utility, I think, and see if it will repair the problem. See,
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. Quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
I would suggest upgrading to a later version of OS X, at least to Panther. You will find it has fewer problems and runs considerably faster.

  • In Need of serious help, everything is gone!!

    Hello everyone,
So I turned on my computer and a flashing folder with a question mark appeared. I followed some intructions that I found here such as pressing the On button when I heard the start up tone but it took me to a I wanna say "back up" disk.. The original start up disk has a question mark in it and I cannot access to any of my original files etc. It's very frustrating. I have thought about taking it to the apple store but I want to know if there's a way where I can fix it myself. As you all know the apple store can be a bit pricey.. I will post a picture below to show you the new disk instead of my original HD disk...
    http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x324/dianaelizabeth29/Screenshot2011-09-07at 25029PM.png
    Thanks!

This means essential system files are corrupted. You will need to do a reinstall of OS X.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • My 2007 iMac 24" now retired as working machine but serves as entertainment center for granddaughters and me, 'attacked' while on Youtube and cannot start up. In need of first aid to get it going again...

My 2007 iMac 24" attacked' while on Youtube and cannot start up. I need first aid to get it going again...
True, it's retired as working machine but serves as family entertainment center.

At this point you have 2 choices.
Erase the disk entirely and reinstall (you will lose everything that is not backed up)
Take it to an Apple Store (you will probably lose everything that is not backed up)
I believe this is a hardware (HDD) issue and would expect a Store trip to be the best approach, sorry.
    BUT
Did you try a safe mode start?

  • IPod Help needed from serious Apple gurus - iPod Touch 2g 16g stuck in restart loop. Will NOT enter DFU or recovery mode, NOT recognized by iTunes on Windows or Mac

Ok, so here's the not so sad story. I bought an iPod Touch 2g 16g through Ebay - so forget warranties. Luckily I did not pay much. The description said it was stuck on the apple logo, so I figured it would be an easy put into recovery mode and restore problem.
    Not so much.
If you plug the iPod in and charge up the battery the LCD will come to life after a while with the apple logo, then it displays the spinning wheel with the apple logo over it. That will last anywhere from 10 - 15 minutes, then the iPod will go blank for a few secs and then start up the cycle all over again.
As stated, this iPod will NOT enter either DFU or recovery mode and believe me I've tried it several times several different ways with different timings, connected via USB to a Mac, connected to a different Mac running Windows, and connected to just the charger. Nothing. Occasionally the screen might go blank while holding the power and home buttons but nothing else happens and then it starts it's usual cycle again.
Again, iPod NOT recognized by iTunes on either Mac or Windows side. Since I got off Ebay and seller didn't know much about it, I have no idea if someone tried to jailbreak this or not.
I will not put much money into this machine. So I guess my question is: does this behavior mean that the motherboard is clearly fried? Are there any software programs that might diagnose what the problem is? Could it be as simple as a fried battery?
And most importantly, is this iPod simply toast or is there anything anyone can suggest????
Really any suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated. Seems a shame to just trash an iPod touch that might need a simple fix...
If it helps matters, I can tinker with iPods somewhat and have torn down and replaced several iPod touch 1g and 2g glass and digitizers with no problems. I'm somewhat software savvy but the whole jailbreak thing is new territory... and I can't really figure out the command in Windows or Mac terminals to list all connected devices so I have no idea if the computer even knows the iPod is there, even if iTunes doesn't. Guess that's it... ummm, please help???

Nothing huh? No one's had this problem or this isn't fixable... oh well... if anybody comes up with anything I'll check in occasionally...

  • Need some serious help. first mac ever. PLEASE

hello i recently bought a used mac (powerbook g4 1.5ghz 512mb i think its 15 titanium? silver color? anywayz it came with microsoft office and my friend told me it was expensive software and if i reformat this mac i would lose it. so i searched mac with find... and removed all microsoft files and put it into a folder and put it in an external hd. *** did i do? how do i undo what i did or how do i format my mac so it is basically brand new and still keep microsoft office. i did a previous reformat but kept previous settings and it kept microsoft office. but since i moved all the files iono wut i did.

You could make your life a lot simpler by getting a decent backup utility and using it to backup your files to the external drive.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore. Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.

  • In need of serious help - BomFatalErrors?

I usually leave my mac on, with the screen the only thing that sleeps, and restart when I need to for updates etc. Never had an issue with that, however when I came back from last weekend to work, my iMac was sitting there with it's sleep light on (typical) but did not respond to mouse or keyboard activity. I had to restart the comp, but hard restart, and when it started up, I got stuck at a black screen 95% of the time. I had to keep my fingers crossed at startup to finally hear a chime and see the gray startup screen, at which point I had to hold down the Option key to select my Mac Disk for Startup (had boot camp too, which I think had something to do with all this...). Once I was in my Mac OSX OS, I could do some things like open Mail and Safari, but when I'd open anything else, the program would quit before starting. Then things would get really funky in Mail or Safari, followed by a Kernal Panic (which is much more emphatic than the blue screen of death). I ended up removing my boot camp partition using BC Assistant, but that was followed up by another kernal panic. AppleCare is sending a repair guy to change the logic board and powersupply, but in the meantime I thought it was something else...
After booting up from the restore/install DVDs that came with the iMac, I wiped the HD clean, checked it for errors and everything and started to reinstall a fresh osx install. Now I get something I've never seen before: BomFatalError - cpio read error. I can't imagine I have a bad install disk, bad hardware, all these things going on at once. I am a die hard mac fan, and I am quite frustrated by this. I guess this is the price we pay for switching to PC parts
Anyhow, does anyone have a suggestion regarding if this in fact is a hardware issue or what? If anyone has seen this and noticed it's a HDD issue or RAM issue or videocard issue, that would be great.
    Sorry for the long post...

Most manufacturers, Apple included, reserve the right to repair or replace at their discretion. But Apple has a great reputation for honoring their warranty and there is plenty of testimony just here in this one Intel forum that they work hard to make it right.
It has always taken longer to get the parts for repair because the supply stream is to China to build new Macs, so parts have to be diverted out of the normal stream to various parts of the world for repair.

  • Printer Spooler In Need Of Serious Help!

I really need some help i tried everything i could and i still can not get my printer spooler to work i even tried the steps listed in the board  below and when i went to modify it says value not set and i tried the whole steps and it still didnt work i went to view local services and tried to start my printer spooler again and it still came up with an error message. PLEASE HELP!!!! IM DESPERATE OF NEEDING HELP!!!! i have had this laptop for 5 months and my printer spooler decides to quit and screw up on me

    Thanks for your help.
The bottom line is I want my Mac to "Just Work".
I am a reformed windows user...
Specifically, I need a few things done here:
I am not heart broken about Time Machine not working. My music and such are all on my external.
I wanted to simply move all of my data to another external. Reformat my external to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Move my data and my friends back to my external and finally reformat his drive hopefully avoiding all sorts of these problems after the reformat.
I have copied all of my data to the other drive. It was not easy but it happened. I did manage to reformat my external in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I am now struggling to copy all of this data back to my drive. As I copy files back to my Mac formated drive the computer states "the drive is in use" or an obscure "file is in use". Obscure as in it is say a music file and no music is running.
I was hoping after the reformat I could just dump the data back to my external overnight (its 500GB) and reformat the other drive.
During all of this my computer showed that my computer (which is listed and Marc McLellan's Computer) was in use and now it is running my computer (2) (Marc McLellan's Computer (2)). No idea how to fix. I am thinking that this is a problem. This is the only way the system could gather that some of these copied files are in use. This is the problem to fix. How to I revert back to the original?
    Again I appreciate your help,
    I hope this makes sense...
    Marc
