In Need of serious help, everything is gone!!

Hello everyone,
So I turned on my computer and a flashing folder with a question mark appeared. I followed some intructions that I found here such as pressing the On button when I heard the start up tone but it took me to a I wanna say "back up" disk.. The original start up disk has a question mark in it and I cannot access to any of my original files etc. It's very frustrating. I have thought about taking it to the apple store but I want to know if there's a way where I can fix it myself. As you all know the apple store can be a bit pricey.. I will post a picture below to show you the new disk instead of my original HD disk...

Thanks!

This means essential system files are corrupted. You will need to do a reinstall of OS X.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

put the phone in DFU mode (do a search for how to do this) and restore to the latest firmware. you may have to download the firmware from apple and when selecting restore or update in itunes press the shift key and select the firmware.

  • IN NEED OF SERIOUS HELP...PLEASE BE PATIENT AND KIND

Hello...and thanks in advance. I will try to make this as concise as possible.
I have a 20GB U2 iPod (I don't know the generation - but it does NOT have a color screen). Its warranty recently expired (prior to all my troubles of course), so I'm trying to fix this on my own.
Anyhow... lately the device turns on successfully and appears to have all my saved songs (approx. 650); however, when I attempt to play a song from the beginning of my "songs" list - nothing will happen - except the screen will begin scrolling through every song though playing none of them. If I choose a specific song - nothing will happen - it will just return to the main menu.
After putting it aside for a few days because of the irritation it caused, I've decided to try again. Except, now the problem is that NO songs are listed on the iPod. Everything is gone. When I plug it into the computer, iTunes does NOT automatically appear and it would seem that my computer has no idea that the iPod even exists. Also...earlier the "About" screen informed me that I had 20GB capacity, but only 4 available. Now it says 18.5GB capacity with 10MB available.
So, I have begun the suggested "Five R's". The iPod has been fully charged. I have done the "hold" key operation, changed the USB port I was using. I have updated the software and iTunes and have restarted my computer.
Currently I am trying to restore the iPod, but the updater is not detecting the iPod. And the device itself just continues flashing the "Do not disconnect" message and makes a whizzing and clicking noise inside.
I did disconnect the iPod a minute ago and the updater then said "Can't mount iPod". I don't know what that means - so I simply tried the updater process again.
So here I sit with a whizzing-clicking iPod on my lap typing this to you hoping for any sort of help.
I am not the most tech savvy person, but I could really use some help if anyone is willing to take the time to help a "rookie".
    Thanks so much!!!

Just an update...could still use help!
The updater screen (on the PC) finally allowed me to choose the restore option - I did. It prompted me to confirm my choice - I did. The status bar popped up, but nothing happened. I left everything plugged in and walked away for several hours. Came back to find "Disk Mode" no longer visible at the top of the iPod screen, but "D.N.D" still flashing. And...now the small updater box (on PC) says "Can't Mount iPod" again.
The upside...No more whizzing and clicking!
    Any thoughts?
    Much obliged

  • Printer Spooler In Need Of Serious Help!

I really need some help i tried everything i could and i still can not get my printer spooler to work i even tried the steps listed in the board  below and when i went to modify it says value not set and i tried the whole steps and it still didnt work i went to view local services and tried to start my printer spooler again and it still came up with an error message. PLEASE HELP!!!! IM DESPERATE OF NEEDING HELP!!!! i have had this laptop for 5 months and my printer spooler decides to quit and screw up on me

    Thanks for your help.
The bottom line is I want my Mac to "Just Work".
I am a reformed windows user...
Specifically, I need a few things done here:
I am not heart broken about Time Machine not working. My music and such are all on my external.
I wanted to simply move all of my data to another external. Reformat my external to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Move my data and my friends back to my external and finally reformat his drive hopefully avoiding all sorts of these problems after the reformat.
I have copied all of my data to the other drive. It was not easy but it happened. I did manage to reformat my external in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I am now struggling to copy all of this data back to my drive. As I copy files back to my Mac formated drive the computer states "the drive is in use" or an obscure "file is in use". Obscure as in it is say a music file and no music is running.
I was hoping after the reformat I could just dump the data back to my external overnight (its 500GB) and reformat the other drive.
During all of this my computer showed that my computer (which is listed and Marc McLellan's Computer) was in use and now it is running my computer (2) (Marc McLellan's Computer (2)). No idea how to fix. I am thinking that this is a problem. This is the only way the system could gather that some of these copied files are in use. This is the problem to fix. How to I revert back to the original?
    Again I appreciate your help,
    I hope this makes sense...
    Marc

  • I need some serious help with MPEG Streamclip and iMovie 11

    Hello, everyone!
I hope that some kind soul here is able to help me. My sister-in-law asked me if I could help her re-edit a video that they made of a conference she gave because she didn't like the way some parts were edited. I oh-so-kindly (and perhaps stupidly) offered to help her out!
A little background: even though I studied audiovisual communications in college, I leaned (a LOT) towards the audio production part of it and, lately, photography, too. That means that I'm not very good at the whole creating-a-movie-in-iMovie thing, even though I know it's supposed to be easy.
So, here goes: I have a DVD from her which has the typical TS files for audio and video. I downloaded a program called MPEG Streamclip and then it said I needed to buy the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component so that I could rip the DVD my sister-in-law gave me. I bought the component.
I've converted, done small, 1-minute tests, of the DVD with MPEG Streamclip to DV and also to MP4 (just in case). I do it, then import them to iMovie 11. I don't edit anything at all, just a test to see how it looks, so I immediately send the project to iDVD to see how it looks. It DOES NOT look good.
Compared to the DVD she gave me, which looks all smooth (picture-wise), mine has a certain amount (NOT HUGE) of pixelation. I can tell especially because there are some slides that were added to her project, so I can see the pixelated parts around the edges of the letters.
The DVD she gave me does NOT look HD. In fact, it looks SD (4:3), so I don't believe it's that.
If anybody here knows about this, what am I doing wrong? Am I not ripping it correctly using MPEG Streamclip? Am I not making the iMovie 11 project right? Am I burning in the "wrong way"?
If it's the MPEG Streamclip ripping that I'm doing wrong, what are the settings I should be using? What format should I be using so that it is VERY iMovie-friendly?
I want the final video that I would edit to look exactly as the one she gave me. That IS possible, right?
For extra information, if needed, I am running a MacBook Pro, 13", i7 with 4 GB of RAM and am running OS 10.6.6. I've been a Mac user since the OS 9 days.
Thanks in advance for anyone who helps me out.
    Serge

    Ok. Got it!!!
Z, thanks a lot!! Now things don't look pixelated and my test burn looks exactly like the dvd my sister-in-law gave me... except for ONE THING:
There are these graphics done in I-don't-know-what program with a cube transition. They look like when you do 3D cube transitions in virtual desktop, you know?
Anyway, HER dvd looks completely smooth when you see these transitions but MY dvd looks... well, not right. It looks a bit like the screen or the letters "tremble" or shake a bit. I hope you can understand what I'm saying.
I followed your advice to the letter and everything is perfect with the exception of those transitions (because after the transition passes and you see the slide with the writing, it looks completely smooth).
Do you know of something that I can do to help with this problem?
    Thanks again!
    Serge

  • In need of serious help - BomFatalErrors?

I usually leave my mac on, with the screen the only thing that sleeps, and restart when I need to for updates etc. Never had an issue with that, however when I came back from last weekend to work, my iMac was sitting there with it's sleep light on (typical) but did not respond to mouse or keyboard activity. I had to restart the comp, but hard restart, and when it started up, I got stuck at a black screen 95% of the time. I had to keep my fingers crossed at startup to finally hear a chime and see the gray startup screen, at which point I had to hold down the Option key to select my Mac Disk for Startup (had boot camp too, which I think had something to do with all this...). Once I was in my Mac OSX OS, I could do some things like open Mail and Safari, but when I'd open anything else, the program would quit before starting. Then things would get really funky in Mail or Safari, followed by a Kernal Panic (which is much more emphatic than the blue screen of death). I ended up removing my boot camp partition using BC Assistant, but that was followed up by another kernal panic. AppleCare is sending a repair guy to change the logic board and powersupply, but in the meantime I thought it was something else...
After booting up from the restore/install DVDs that came with the iMac, I wiped the HD clean, checked it for errors and everything and started to reinstall a fresh osx install. Now I get something I've never seen before: BomFatalError - cpio read error. I can't imagine I have a bad install disk, bad hardware, all these things going on at once. I am a die hard mac fan, and I am quite frustrated by this. I guess this is the price we pay for switching to PC parts
Anyhow, does anyone have a suggestion regarding if this in fact is a hardware issue or what? If anyone has seen this and noticed it's a HDD issue or RAM issue or videocard issue, that would be great.
    Sorry for the long post...

Most manufacturers, Apple included, reserve the right to repair or replace at their discretion. But Apple has a great reputation for honoring their warranty and there is plenty of testimony just here in this one Intel forum that they work hard to make it right.
It has always taken longer to get the parts for repair because the supply stream is to China to build new Macs, so parts have to be diverted out of the normal stream to various parts of the world for repair.

  • In need of serious help

My iPod Nano is experiencing technical difficulties. I have been trying to do a factory restore on my iPod and I cannot doit. My pc will recognize it as a drive, when I go into properties it says the drive is raw so I format it with fat32 but the restore software will tell me it does not support my model of iPod and I have the newest verson. Or sometimes it will tell me the iPod is in use by another application and to close all other ipod applications. I am really confused and I need help please.

Follow the directions at this link to do a factory restore.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300701
If your nano is still having problems after following those directions then you'll probably need to contact technical support.

  • Need some serious help asap please

My boyfriend got drunk last night and changed his passcode on his iphone 3GS. Goes to use it this morning and couldn't remember it whatsoever, tried so many times that his phone is now disabled and asks to be connected to itunes.
Tried syncing it but I must've not done something right. The phone IS his and we do own the first and only computer the phone has been plugged in to.
So my questions are as follows:
How do I find the serial number on itunes?
How do I restore his passcode without having to completely restore his phone?
We are both still very new to the iphone thing and a little overwhelmed. I need to get this fixed asap as my boyfriend needs his phone for work. I might add that I'm still quite unfamiliar with itunes so be gentle lol
Any help will be greatly appreciated

How do I find the serial number on itunes?
Under the Summary tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
How do I restore his passcode without having to completely restore his phone?
Not possible. If this were possible, there wouldn't be any reason to have a Passcode Lock feature to prevent unauthorized access to the iPhone in the first place. The iPhone must be restored with iTunes. It can be restored from the iPhone's backup since the Passcode Lock is not included with the iPhone's backup.

  • I really need some serious help with Encore import

Ok I will start off by saying  Iam a complete and total newbie to this field.  I have produced a few small projects in premier and encore but nothing advanced until now.
Here is what I have done
    I am using CS04 Suite
I have built a Premier Project using AVCHD footage that is 2.5 hours long (roughly)
I exported the final project using AME to H.264 so that I could import it into Encore
The files is 16 GB in size
I am trying to import the file as an asset into encore to build the menus,  I need to create 2 images in encore, one DVD image and 1 Blueray Image.  I am trying to do the DVD image at this time.  Encore allows the import, shows the video in the asset list but my hard drive has been running like a fool for 3 hours now,  I cant seem to drag it to the timeline, if I right click  I cant even access the Transcode setting of the file, my system is very sluggish.  It almost seems like it is pre-transcoding but I see no progress bars anywhere.
Is Encore simply still importing the file?
    Am I doing this correctly?
Should I break up the video into smaller files? Will I need to create multiple Premier Projectes to do so?
If I wait long enough will it be ok?
I have 6 days to finish this project... I really need your help !!!

An external ESATA would do just fine.
Keep all of your media on the external drive.  Only use the internal drive for Windows and your applications.
Your quad-core and 4 GB of RAM is OK.  Not great (I'd get 2 GB of RAM per core), but OK.

  • Ipod not working: in need of SERIOUS help!

Hi. Ocasionally my ipod freezes, so i have to wait untill my ipod dies, and recharge it. One day it froze, and while it was frozen i decided to charge it, and now it wont turn on. I tried everything; i held buttons, i flicked the hold button, and nothing is seeming to work. I just bought over $20 worth of new songs.. and im really upset my ipod isnt working. Please help me.
    -Amanda.

I think your iPod is finished. It shouldn't have been "freezing" so much that you had to drain the battery, but now I suspect you've killed the battery as well (Li-On batteries don't like to be drained).
You didn't have to post the same thing under 4 different questions.

  • I need of serious help

Hello everybody! Let me first start by saying I am not a FCP pro I've only got about 1yrs. experience. Now to the big problem. when I first started using FCP I would edit a complete segment with fades, cross dissolves, white flashes, music, etc. I would complete the segment save it as ( whatever file name I use)then go to sequence 1 export as QT movie, open DVD Pro import assets the video, and audio track would show up to the right it would say QT video, and audio file, and the status lights to the right of my imported tracks would be green (Note when I go into my capture scratch right click the file get info it says it's a FPC movie file.) Now here's where the problem is. I am doing the same exact procedure, but now when I import my assets into DVD Pro it's still telling me it's a QT video, and audio file, but my status lights to the right of my assets are yellow. I have went ahead , and went through the process, and burned a copy, but when I play it through several different DVD players it continually freezes up. I can't figure out what would cause the status lights to be yellow instead of green. I've done everything exactly the same. When I look at an older file that was done this way it says it's a FCP movie file same as newer files with yellow status. The file itself stored in the hard drive looks exactly the same the QT symbol as well as time markers, so I'm really stumped, and at a dead stop. Now I've tried the alternative which is use compressor rendered each individual segment imported them into DVD Pro put everything together, and burned to DVD, but when we watch it back on different DVD players we get funny looking black fuzzy stuff at transitions, and random pixelations, and glitches that are not in the master files, which is a problem I never had when doing them as QT movies everything came out picture perfect, but not anymore. Can somebody please help me.
    Thank You,
    Bob Bowers.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Jerry,
Just to make sure I understand you correctly. when I export as a QT movie that is making it MPEG-2 even though it says the file is a FCP movie file. Also up until this problem started happening (which was just recently) I had never used compressor I always exported as a QT movie then imported the asset in dvd pro set everything up, burned, and it worked like a champion. Again like I said I never used compressor until just recently, and I have no problem using compressor except that once I go through the process, and burn as I stated earlier, on the dvd I get weird fuzzy black stuff on the transitions, random pixelations, and glitches that are definately not on the master video files. While still in FCP, and watching it as it plays through the timeline it looks pristine, so again I'm at a road block.
    Thank You,
    Bob Bowers.

  • Ok I need some serious help..PLEASE HELP ME

Hey here is my issue i need to do the following things and i do not know how or can't figure it out by reading the manual...
    1. I need to convert .m4p AAC files into MP3's and i cant find anything to do it with
    2. I need to change the bpm of the song without changing the pitch, basically holding the master tempo while increasing the speed
    3. I have a midi controller with 8 assignable knobs and i cant figure out how to assign anything to any of them
    Thank you for your help
    Alex Eljaiek

    Alex,
Isn't the m4p the "protected" file from iTunes. The only way I know of to switch the m4p to mp3 is to burn the file to an audio cd (in iTunes), and then rip the track off of the CD as and mp3.
You'll want to check your preferences in iTunes to verify the burning and ripping settings are correct.
    Hope this is helpful,
    Mitch
