• Internet cutting out - Nokia N95

Hi there,
I've been using my N95 (8G version) for a while with no problems. However recently whenever I try and load the internet  it cuts out as it tries to load the first page.
I've tried rebooting and a master reset but it's still doing it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks

I'll send you a PM to someone who'll get this set to Interleaved, but first we need to actually check. ADSL2+ connnections can mis-report that statistic.
Interleaving on DSL is a form of error correction. Basically, along with the payload the line delivers there are error correcting bits. They are used to correct damaged data that is sent to/from the network to help keep lines stable during bursts of noise along with speeds up. The depth of Interleaving can vary per provider and will increase latency depending on how they set up their profiles, but in some cases it is worth it.
To find out if you're truly on Interleaved, do the following:
Open Command Prompt from Start > Run > cmd.exe > OK or by searching CMD from the Search bar in the start menu. From that point, enter in the following:
tracert www.google.com
When the trace completes, right click on the Window, press Select All, then press Enter and then paste the results into a post. Please remove your username or name as we obviously don't need that.
In Macintosh or Linux, you will need a Terminal Window. On the Macs this can be found by visiting Applications > Utilities . On Linux, it varies per distribution. Once in a Terminal, use the following command:
traceroute www.google.com
From that point you should be able to highlight the entire traceroute output, copy it and paste it to a post.

• N95 in-car use - what are Nokia playing at?!

I have for some time been using a Nokia 6680 in my car, using a ck-7w car kit and a cr-27 holder. This works great, I have handsfree calling, I can charge my phone whenever I get in the car by putting it in the cradle & I have tomtom 5 mobile which works great, even muting the radio to give directions etc because it all integrates nicely.
Now Nokia have brought out the N95 and I thought great, satnav and phone in one device. So I have upgraded.
Guess what? Nokia N-series devices are "consumer" devices which don't get a special in-car holder. You what?!
The N95 works fine with the ck-7w using bluetooth, but it doesn't have a pop-port so you can't use the ck7w cable. The only way to use it in the car is with a generic holder and a cigarette lighter charger. There is no custom holder for it. To be honest I would be happy even if all the holder did was charge the phone and hold it - I'm happy with bluetooth connection to the car kit.
This has to be the most brain dead thinking from Nokia I have ever seen. I have been using Nokia phones with car kits since the 2010, 2140, nk702 (6130), 6110, 6210, 6310 & 6680. Like I said, my 6680 has tomtom mobile 5 sat nav installed. But guess what, the N95, a phone with BUILT IN SAT NAV has no in-car charger cradle, so you can't use it neatly in a car?!?!
Can anyone who has this working explain the process to get a bluetooth connection from the N95 to the CK-7W? I just seem not to be able to pair the two.
Hi, I've got this working. I have a holder for the 6680 in place using cable connection as well. Haven't tried to connect them both at the same time, but I guess that's not what you want.
To get this working. In my situation, the carkit when using my 6680 always works. I don't need to have the keys. For the bluetooth connection I do have to have the power on (turn the key until you can play your radio, onboard lights turn on, etc.). After you turn on the power, let your N95 search for a new bluetooth device. In my situation, it found the CK-7W in just a few seconds. Then pair with the device using the 0000 password.Message Edited by jarnodewit on 29-Apr-200702:30 PM

When i used the older Lightroom 3 I was able to upload video files (.mov) to Flickr. Now, with LR5.2 Flickr shows those files as grayed out .mp4 files and do not upload.
Same camera, Canon 7D, so what's happening? Is the problem at Flickr's end? I don't think so.

• N95 driving directions don't work properly - not r...

I tried out my N95 with driving directions over the last weekend, driving nearly 500 miles, and I'm very disappointed. In excitement I tried a whole lot of routes and it got them almost all wrong.
I paid £45 for the service, and while the basic GPS works, the directions are virtually unusable.
(I'm not sure if this is a UK or international forum - my comments refer to UK)
Dozens of times I'd approach a roundabout, hoping to find out which exit to take, and it would say "At the next roundabout.... [silence]"
Even though I'd select the 'fastest' or 'shortest' route, it would ignore that, and chose only one. I couldn't rely on it.
It kept losing the signal, which I could understand for a multi-function device like this, but then wouldn't re-lock on to a signal. At one stage after losing a signal I drove over 25 miles without it finding a signal again, and I didn't realise it. I only knew it had lost the signal because I got lost.
It has a motorway option, which I chose, but it still took me to a toll road (the M6 Toll) even though I only wanted to go 3 miles and gave me no option to avoid tolls.
I had a Tom Tom before. It was stolen, and that's why I decided to buy an N95 when I needed a new phone. But the Tom Tom was a paragon of virtue compared to the N95.
There were newish roads (open for 6 months or a year) that weren't represented on the N95 map or driving directions. If I buy a fixed GPS off the shelf (like Tom Tom) I can understand that, but a road that's been open for 6 months (and under construction for 2 years) really ought to be represented on an chargeable online service like the N95. Surely they can be updated in days?
I signed up for the directions from the default service, but it didn't say who I was paying. My service provider (T-Mobile) says it wasn't them. They think it was Nokia. I wanted to get a receipt, but pressed the wrong button (it was a new phone, I wasn't familiar with it for chrissakes) and it assumed I didn't want a receipt. But until I get my credit card statement I won't know who I bought it from.
The N95 GPS works more or less as advertised, if you are prepared to stop when you lose the signal, but I feel cheated about the driving directions. Money down the drain. The biggest problem is that I'm now locked into an 18month contract. I don't reccommend the N95 for GPS.

if t-mobile have sold you it as a finished product, and charged you for the usage then i would personally be stomping down to the store and slapping it on the desk and saying something about "doesnt work, not fit for purpose"
I got mine from o2, its an 18 month contract but its only 35 a month, handset was free and no mention of the sat nav software.
If you subscribe from your handset, rather than prepay for a code (as im assuming t-mobile made you do) it allows you to pay for 1 day, 7 day, 30 days, 3 months, annual, 3 years. I think its a couple of quid for a month.
i used navicore with my n73, and once they release an update to use the internal gps, ill probbaly be installing my software on there. Its pretty cheap and very reliable, ive been using it for a year and its as good as any standalone unit (apart from less features).
but back to nokia maps, if you got to the smart2go website, it states its a beta on the title page, if tmobile have charged you for the service or sold you the phone under the pretense of having a fully working tried and tested sat nav product then i would say your within your rights to hand it back
however, try downloading the maps again, sometimes it corrects errors. If you find your still losing the signal, return your phone. most people dont have issues, and the few who have have found their units faulty.Message Edited by dawg on 08-May-200711:02 PM

• Quality loss when converting pro res to mp4

Hi
I have a problem with the workflow from After Effects to a final .mp4 video.
I have been editing time lapses in After Effects, and exporting them as Pro Res HQ- all good so far. However, I can´t seems to be able to convert the Pro Res file to a .mp4 (or quick time .mov for that matter) without significant quality loss. This happens if I convert using adobe media encoder, or if I import the Pro Res files to Premiere and export through Premiere.
However, if I import the original JPG/TIFs to Premiere, and export using the exact same setting- I get a better result. Also, when I have uploaded the original Pro Res HQ file to vimeo, they do a much better job of converting it than Media Encoder or Premiere do when I convert to .mp4 (I´m aware that it is not the same conversion, but still..).
So my conclusion must be that AME and PP does not convert from Pro Res to other codecs very well? I have to work on my files in AE, and I need .mp4 as the final product (requirement for uploading to a stock site). How do I do this without getting lower quality video than if my workflow and export was only in Premiere? After Effects does not render out .mp4 very well it seems...
A screenshot showing the setting I use when exporting from PP or AME. The settings produce a good result when exporting other files from PP, but not the Pro Res files I have exporter from AE.
Thanks for your input!

Figured it out after testing various settings. I read an article describing the keyframe interval setting at 1 as the best option- clearly that was wrong! After searching I found a better description of keyframe interval: "Having too many keyframes severely reduces quality, because the efficiency of reusing image areas from previous frames is completely lost at each keyframe – the encoder has to "start over" at every keyframe. Therefore, we want as few keyframes as possible to achieve the highest quality for the given target bitrate."
Tested with keyframe settings 25 and 75- both seem fine.
Thanks for the feedback

Gotta convert that footage. FCP doesn't edit MP4. Use MPEG STREAMCLIP (www.squared5.com) to convert it to DV, or ProRes if HD Flip.

Taking out an N95-2 as an upgrade for contract renewal when you already have an N95-1 is not something I'd do, personally. You may have different criteria but this is how I see it at least.
The -2 has 128MB of system memory and can therefore run more applications and process more complex web pages etc. That's a good point in the phone's favour.
However, that's about all it offers more than the N95-1. It has the same camera (which no longer has a lens cover here), the GPS is the same... OK, it has 8GB of on-board memory. You can get that by stuffing a £30 memory card in the N95-2's slot. The N95-1 has 2 considerable advantages over the N95-2 in this area: 1) if the phone has a problem linked to the mass memory you can remove the card from the -1 and format it in a card reader using your desktop computer (you can't remove the mass memory of the -2). 2) When larger capacity cards become avaiilable, as they will soon, you'll be able to have an N95 with 12GB or 16GB of mass storage while with the -2 you're stuck at 8GB.
OK, the screen of the -2 is bigger than that of the -1 by 0.2" so it's better for video and viewing photos full-screen.
On balance, I don't think the N95-2 offers enough "plus" over the N95-1 to entice me to renew a contract to get one.
But that's just me...

• N95 1G

i have Nokia N95 from USA made in Korea and i do live in Egypt it is working with my operator all the services expect the 3G Broadband and it is supported from my operator network and working my sim card but not with the N95 i tried to download an update but doesn't worj the 3G also there is no Arabic language in the phone, wich update or softwaare that i do need to make the 3G service work from N95 with the Operator and installs the arabic language.
thank you for your time.

As scoobyman pointed out, your N95-3 NAM will always have American software on it because it was intended for the American market.
One thing you can do, though, is visit your nearest Nokia Care Point and ask them to install an Arabic language pack for you. This will give you Arabic support in the phone but it will be erased if you update the phone's firmware at a later date or even if you perform a reset on the phone. There may be a charge for this because it isn't a fault of the phone if Arabic is missing in it, and the US guarantee isn't valid in Egypt anyway.
Also note that no software modification will enable 3G on the phone in Egypt. The frequencies used in North America and parts of Australia are not the same as those used elsewhere. The hardware in your phone is not the same as that in the N95-1.

• Premiere elements 12 - no audio

Longtime Photoshop Elements and Premiere user... now on v12.  Premiere seems to work fine until I just realized there is no audio...
I can't  hear audio in the preview playback
there is no audio track at the bottom of the screen
when I write out MP4 files, no audio is present.
Any ideas?  O/S is Windows 8.1

Hi A.T.
Here are responses to you questions...
Did you update it yet from 12 to 12.1 via the opened project's Help Menu/Update? YES
You say that you are a longtime Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements user. What was the most recent version of these programs that you worked with and on what computer operating system immediately before going to version 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit? I've used 3 or 4 prior releases.  I just upgraded from v9 => v12.  v9 was running on Win7; v12.1 is running on Win8.1 (64-bit)
Are you working in the Expert or Quick workspace of Premiere Elements 12? Primarily Quick, but I use Expert when I need to manipulate sound
Because of the longtime in your description of your programs usage, I hesitate to ask, but I will anyway so as not to take anything for granted.
a. Are you working Run As Administrator as well as from User Account with Administrative Privileges? I am the only user of the machine, so my user account and Admin are one in the same.
b. Do you have the latest verison of QuickTime installed on your computer? Yes
c. What are you or the project setting as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
d. What are the properties of the source media?
e. What are the details of your export to a .mp4 file?
Have you gone through the drill of checking the ASIO settings in preferences? Yes Can we assume that the no audio is only in Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit?  Correct
Are the Volume settings (Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/Volume Panel) as well as audio clip rubberband) OK? Not sure...
Could you post a screenshot of your workspace where you say that there is no audio track? The audio track is physically present in the input sample, is just not audible.  When I write out a MP4, there is no audio track present.
Have you attempted to delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and/or the 12.0 Folder in which it exists? No... Nof familiar with doing that.

• Is there a version of iMovie that will import ProRes files?

Is there a version of iMovie that will import ProRes files?
Final Cut Pro does, but does iMovie HD? And which version?

Luca,  I'm not sure acceptable life in iMovie at 60p is possible, and not sure about YouTube at this point either.
(I have a 2.66GHz Core i5 iMac with 8GB ram running Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8)
My first export using QT x264 1080 59.94, auto key, +CABAC, crashed iMovie, but later times worked ok.
The non-QT export 1080 HD computer - puts out a 29.97 fps movie with lots of motion artifacts.
I checked plist - videoframerate and newProjectFrameRate were 30, so changed to 60 and redid the import, title, finalize, exports, and share to YouTube.
The non-QT export 1080 HD computer - still put out 29.97 fps.
QT Export x264 1080 framerate 59.94 fixed, auto key, +CABAC put out a 43 Mpbs 59.94 H.264 QuickTime movie which occasionally stutters, but it appears to have the same quality as the original 1080p60 footage.
Moving to a 1080p60 camera has been frought with disappointments.  The latest VLC can play my raw video but it often stutters (from no times to lots of times).
Repackaging as MP4 using ffmpeg -i in.MTS -vcodec copy -acodec copy out.mp4 doesn't get rid of the stuttering.
Toast Video Player also has occassional stutters.
Converting using Handbrake does not eliminate the occasional stutter.
QT playing the prores transcoded source footage claims 255 Mbps data rate 59.94 fps, and it also stutters sometimes, sometimes not.
The Share... YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mByr3Y3wfz4  which appears to only be 30 fps (the mp4 download is 30p).
The 60pQT export uploaded is at: http://youtu.be/Hv1TgcoaxfM also downloads as a 30p MP4 so I have no idea what is going on.
"(i)Life" in 60p seems a bit complicated.

Why are you re-encoding instead of simply re-muxing? Using stream copy mode:
ffmpeg -i out.mp4 -ss 4 -t 10 -codec copy out2.mp4

• Why will Safari not play MP3s embedded in my iWeb pages when Firefox can?

One would have thought that if iWeb was going to get picky over the scenarios in which it would behave correctly, it would favour Apple-centric enviroments. But this doesn't appear to be the case when building an iWeb site with embedded MP3 files.
The published site behaves perfectly when viewed in Firefox and yes, even IE's latest incarnation. Files may take a while to download but they play when the download has finished. Safari is a different story. The MP3 files embedded in some pages simply will not play when viewed with Safari.
This page in particular has never worked in Safari -
http://www.whisperycat.co.uk/version_5/sounds/Entries/2011/3/23_Promenade.html
A small blue questionmark appears instead of the 'Play' button.
Any workarounds or is it just the case that Safari and iWeb are incompatible on this fundamental point???

Well it looks as though I answered my own question. A Google search revelas that Safari has had over 2 years' history of reported problems with the mp3 format -
http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=safari+wont+play+mp3&ie=UT F-8&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&ei=nkulT9_wA82g8gOPj8ntBA
- and the solution is... STOP USING MP3 FILES
Yes, mp3 format is out, mp4 format is in. SO I'll need to upload MP4 versions of my audio files and then retry.

• Script to encode jpg and mp3 into video for youtube?

Hi!
Sometimes I upload music and stand-up to youtube. Till now I used wine + avisynth + virtualdubmod to achieve this. Lately I realized that there is another smipler way to carry out things: ffmpeg
I was looking for some script or one-liner which makes the encoding task, but unfortunately none of those mentioned scripts worked. They are all obsolate that are mentioned by others. Some of them works, but the resulting video are denied by youtube. Do anybody know a simple one-liner or script (or maybe a handy application) which can do the transcoding the right way?

You don't say if you want 1 or multiple .jpg images in the video.

Script to encode jpg and mp3 into video for youtube?
With x264/mp3 into a mp4 container? Any number of ways. Here are some examples.
ffmpeg -r 1 -i file.jpg -i file13.mp3 -c:a copy -c:v libx264 -b:v 500k ouput.mp4
ffmpeg -loop 1 -i file.jpg -c:v libx264 -t 30 -i file.mp3 -c:a copy out.mp4
ffmpeg -f image2 -i file.jpg -i audio.mp3 -c:a copy -c:v libx264 -b:v 500k output.mp4
Find out how you want to do, then if you want a script to automate it, something like
#! /usr/bin/env bash
echo "What image file?"
read image
echo "What audio file?"
read audio
echo "what video size?"
echo "Example: 640x480"
read size
echo "Output file name?"
read name
ffmpeg -f image2 -i "$image" -i "$audio" -c:a copy -c:v libx264 -b:v 500k -s "$size" "$name".mp4
exit
If you want to use multiple images, look at ffmpeg docs.
