In 'Phone' number is 'Unknown'

Any one know a way around this?

from what I have seen online, people talk about putting the card in another phone to edit the phone number on the card... However, I can't say it works as I don't have the problem.

  • My phone number is "Unknown"

I just got my new iPhone 4 S in the mail and synced it up via iCloud and it still says "No Service".  Then when I plugged it in to iTunes it said on iTunes that the number was "Unknown".  On the iPhone itself when you go to Settings>Phone>My Number says Unknown as well.  How can I get this fixed?  Thanks!

Just got a working solution after searching for weeks.
I have an unlocked 4s I use with pepephone in Spain and my number was showing "unknown" with impossibility to change it.
I got the sim card from someone who's got an official iPhone carrier, Movistar, put it in my iPhone, went to the Phone settings and could see the Movistar sim card number with possibility to change it. I clicked on it to change and while in edit mode took of the friend's sim card and put back mine, waited for it to get the network while still being in edit mode, then input my own number and saved.
Now even after rebooting the phone my own number shows and is editable. Problem solved.

  • How do I change phone number from Unknown?

    Hi.
I've been using my iPhone for months now without problem, but recently my network (MTN Ghana) had a problem and since that day I can't get iMessage working with my mobile number; it just says verifying. I noticed also that under "Settings > Phone" my number is set as "Unknown" and is uneditable. I read though that I can put the SIM in another phone, set my number and it'll work, so I did that, and although it worked, my number goes back to Unknown everytime I restart the phone. Surely I don't have to put the SIM in another phone and re-verify iMessage everytime I need to restart?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Do you want to move your phone to another number? Or do you just want to change your number? There's a fee to just change the number. If your just interchanging phone you can call *611 on a different phone to switch them.

  • Just upgraded to iPhone 5c but in settings my phone number shows "unknown".

Just upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5c. Tried to make a phone call and got message that I would be connected with an operator and could place my call using a credit card. Tried call ing my cell from home phone and went to automated voice mail. Checked Settings and under Phone / My Number it shows "unknown". Is this an iPhone problem or do I need to contact my carrier, Verizon?

There is a setting that you can set to prevent the iPhone from backing up to iCloud.
Settings > iCloud > Backup > iCloud Backup > Turn off
Apple provides 5 GB of free space for backups. When the data backed up to iTunes is greater than that you will get the message to buy additional storage. The storage in question is iCloud storage and has nothing to do with storage on your iPhone.
I use my 5 GB free storage for Contacts, Calendars, Reminders etc. and the total of these is usually well below 1 GB.
It is still important though, to periodically backup your iPhone in case of a problem that results in data loss. I do this with iTunes on my computer.

  • Mijn nummer onbekend (my number is unknown)

    Beste forumleden
    Dear forum members
A few days ago I received a new iPhone 4S through T-Mobile with new microsim.
The following problem arises: When is my phone number settings (unknown) and can not change.
    Itunes shows NA
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

  • How do I change my incoming calls to view caller's phone number instead of name?  This is for numbers not stored in my contacts (i.e. Unknown)

How do I change my incoming call view to see the "phone number" instead of seeing "Unknown" for contacts who are not stored in my phone?  Whenever a call comes in it says unknow instead on the phone number that is calling.

You need to set up the accounts in System Preferences/Accounts, then activate Fast User Switching.
That way you can quickly log in to your own account - then back to his.
You should obviously have different passwords.

  • Contact shows unknown phone number when SMSing

    iPhone 4s
    IOS 6.1
I create an SMS using Messages
I type in the contact name, in this case 'David'
Various 'David's pop up but 3 phone numbers show for the David in question.
    1. Home
    2. iPhone
    3. Unknown
However, when I go to the Contact using 'Contacts', find the David in question, he only has a home and iPhone.
I try editing the contact, to see if anything pops up, nope.
I try searching my iPhone, for the last 3 digits of this 'unkonwn' phone number and I find nothing.
Is anyone else experiencing something like this? Phantom phone numbers associated with a contact?

    Yes.
    Unresolved at this point.

  • Want External Phone Number Mask to say "Unknown Caller" Is this Possible?

When a user dials an external # is it possible to have it show on Caller ID as "Unknown Caller"?
I have deleted the # that is currently in the External Phone Number Mask, and left it blank, but the Coporate# now shows when he dials out.
This is something that only needs to be setup for 1 user, not the entire company.

There will always be some number/name displayed. If you do not put in a number in the outside mask, the number/name associated with the smart trunk will be displayed.
You might talk to your local phone company and see if they can restrict the numbers or a single phone number. If they can do that on even one number, you can put it into the mask for all of your phones.
Two other problems you might have with this. One, a lot of people (I do) block calls from phones that do not display a phone numbers.
Another problem you are going to run into is when someone calls "911" by accident. The Police/fire will try to call back to the number for the smart trunk. And since most often is not on a phone. They will send cars or trucks to the address listed for those smart trunks. Usually the billing address for your company.

  • HT5961 I want to receive the verification code for the keychain but I was sent to unknown number because the last two digits do not represent my phone number

I want to receive the verification code for the keychain but I was sent to unknown number because the last two digits do not represent my phone number, so how can I change it to receive it on my cell phone ?

I found this in the iCloud Keychain FAQs:
How do I set up iCloud Keychain on a new device if I don't have one of my other devices to approve from?
If you don't have access to any of your other devices that are using iCloud Keychain, you can still set up iCloud Keychain on another device if you have these items:
    - Your iCloud Security Code
    - The device that is using the SMS-capable phone number you provided when you first set up iCloud Keychain. A verification code is sent via SMS to this phone number. If you don't have access to this number, contact Apple Support, who can verify your identity so that you can complete setup on your new device.
    - If you have these items, follow the iCloud Keychain setup steps documented above. Your iCloud Keychain will then be pushed from the cloud to the new device.
So it seems that you would have to directly contact the Apple Support: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/

  • Phone Number Unknown after ios5 Update?!

I am also having facetime and imessage problems.  I can only use facetime if using email. However, when I went into 'settings', then 'phone', my phone number is listed as 'unknown'.  Before the ios5 update, my actual phone number was listed.  I am unable to change this, and have already tried the system restore with no luck.  Help?

I had already attempted to resolve the issue using those tips; however since it's a generic error message it could be for anything, and no, nothing i tried worked.

  • My number is unknown in the phone settings

My number is unknown in the phone settings i cannot edit
i restored twice with no success i'm  using ios 5.0.1 on iphone 4S
The only thing i did is that i have activated iphone using another SIM but i used the original sim in the next 2 restore trials

    Hi there,
Unfortunately the provided sim cards & the systems of Omantel doesn't support identifying your phone number and the only way to activate the iMessage will be through using your Apple ID or if you have the option to move to the second operator Nawras were you won't face this issue.
    Good luck!

Newly unlocked Rogers iphone 3G now my new provider name appears, i can call, but nobody can call me---my phone number shows as unknown in the phone settings---i have restored to factory settings twice---phone tells me it's unlocked---whats wrong?

        Falktr,
That's definitely odd but I understand how frustrating this is, we definitely want to assist you. Is this a Verizon Wireless iPhone? If not, you may experience problems such as this. If it is, please reset the network settings http://vz.to/Q7XEOV. If that doesn't work, please follow these steps http://bit.ly/19vT5qz .

  • How do I determine who is calling me.  An unknown phone number is calling me late at night?  I want to find out who it is.

How do I determine who is calling me.  An unknown phone number is calling me late at night?  I want to find out who it is.

Yes, yes, yes. I am well aware about your line of Verizon is "THE Phone Company". Unfortunately, everyone was not subscribed  to "THE Phone Company" back before "THE Phone Company" was broken up. Some people have lines which were not in existence and have never been subscribers to "THE Phone Company". There are new area codes and numbers since "THE Phone Company" was broken up. I was unaware Straight Talk, T-Mobile, Sprint, Time Warner Cable, MagicJack, etc... automatically provide ALL of the private information of their subscribers to "THE Phone Company" simply so these other companies can exist. I was unaware "THE Phone Company" required each and every phone provider in the US to gather information for the USER of a phone when that USER was not the account owner. I don't remember giving my 15 year old daughter's information to "THE Phone Company" when I opened up her line 5 years ago. Obviously I did, since "THE Phone Company" has it as you would lead us to believe. I wasn't aware "THE Phone Company" required someone opening an account with 10 lines to provide the private user information for each and every one of those lines. When I opened up my 4 line account, I only remember giving out MY information. I don't remember validating everyone on the account was related to me. I don't remember giving out the names/DOB/SS #/etc... for everyone using the phones on my account. That information must have simply slipped my mind.
For what it is worth, I never said they didn't have information on "every single number coming and going" thru their system. That is not the information being requested, though. The OP wants to know the name of the person making the call. If Verizon, aka "THE Phone Company" does not gather information on all users of a 10 line More Everything account from the account owner, where exactly are they getting this information. Furthermore, if they don't even gather this information of their own subscribers, why would you expect they have this information on the subscribers to other phone providers? It is not required to open a 10 line account. They do not run credit checks on all the users. They do not require SS#s on all of the users. They only require this information on the account owner. Are they staking out the account owner and following him/her to determine who is using the phones on his/her account? I guess I am simply too trusting.
You speak of "back in the way old days". Well these are no longer the "way old days". Lines on an account can be scattered all over the US. The users of these phones aren't necessarily and more often every day not even related. "THE Phone Company" doesn't necessarily and is UNLIKELY to know the identity of the majority of people using phones on an account. The account owner, yes. Everyone else, NO. People making a call are just as likely using an area code/phone number of a location they don't even physically reside. "Back in the way old days" this was much less commonplace.
Yes, they MAY be able to get the name of a caller, but it would take time and COULD take a considerable amount of time depending on the cooperation of the account owner.
