In-place Archiving

Greetings
I have configured In-place archiving which is a simple and straight process.
Can somebody please give me inputs on the below mentioned requirements:
1. Is there any Automation to copy all the mails in Inbox to the Archive folder. That means for every email there should be copy on Archive without the deletion of the Original message in the Inbox.
2. Can i restrict the users not to delete any email from Archive folder for compiance purpose and other business requirements. (Users will be able to delete items from Inbox only, not from Archive folder)
Thanks in advance.

1. No. the Archiving process moves the messages to the archive, it doesnt copy them. You can copy them if done manually or with Outlook rules.
2. Not possible. Users will always be able to delete items in their own mailboxes and archives. Use litigation hold to allow the ability to keep those messages, and make them searchable and recoverable with Exchange eDiscovery

  • In-Place Hold Combined with In-Place Archiving in Exchange 2013

    Hi,
In-Place Hold is enabled for a mailbox and set to keep everything indefinitely.  The same mailbox has a Retention Policy with a Default Policy Tag set to move everything to an archive mailbox after 2 years.
Let's say the user keeps mail in the primary mailbox and 2 years passes.  This piece of mail should then be moved to the archive mailbox.  When this happens, does the indefinite In-Place Hold mean that the mail is ALSO kept in the primary mailbox
    (in the Recoverable Items Folder)?
Or is the In-Place Hold smart enough to consider both the primary and archive mailbox as a single "whole" and would therefore completely purge the mail from the primary mailbox when it is moved to the archive?
Obviously I would expect if the user were to subsequently delete the mail from the archive mailbox that In-Place Hold would actually keep the mail in the Recoverable Items Folder in the archive mailbox.
I am essentially trying to determine if In-Place Hold effectively nullifies any space saving in the primary mailbox when mail is archived or whether the two mailboxes are treated as a single "whole" for the purpose of the hold.
    Cheers,
    David

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply.  If that is the case, doesn't that effectively mean that when In-Place Hold is active, any In-Place Archive process actually ends up creating a second copy of the mail and therefore using twice as much space?
One copy in the Archive mailbox and one copy kept in the Recoverable Items Folder (due to the In-Place Hold) in the Primary mailbox.
My feeling is that Microsoft would have been smart enough to get this right and Exchange will actually bypass the In-Place Hold functionality in the specific case when the mail is being moved to the Archive - but this is just a guess.  I'd like to know
    for sure.
    Cheers,
    David

  • In-place archive and in-place hold

    Hello,
I have a question concerning the archiving of the Recoverable items folder.
The question refers to Exchange 2013 SP1 and in-place archive in coherency with in-place hold.
First of all I have an active in-place archive with the default retention policy.
    Futhermore a Time-based In-Place Hold is enabled.
So if I hard delete a item its moves to the DiscoveryHolds folder, by reason of the in-place hold.
As the "DiscoveryHolds" Folder is a subfolder of the "recoverable items", will the hard-deleted email be moved to the users in-place archive according to the Retentiontag of the "recoverable items" folder?
If not, is there any possibility to ensure that hard-deleted items which are being kept in the database by in-place hold are being moved to the archive? We want to assure that items, which are being deleted by the user, do not remain in the
users active mailbox, but are being moved to the archive mailbox DiscoveryHolds folder to keep the active mailbox database "tidy".
    Thanks!

    Hi,
If set a retention policy for recoverable items folder, then the In-Place Hold will not prevent the items being moved from the primary mailbox's recoverable items folder to archive mailbox's.

  • Using 2 file systems to place archive logs

We currently have LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST parameter set to place archive logs to /u10 file system. However it no longer has enough space and system admin added second dedicated file system /u11 to place archive logs. So we would like to start using both of them. If first gets full we want to make sure second is in use until backup job deletes them. If this possible to do in current version that we have (8.1.7) and what changes should we make to start utilizing both file systems.
    Thanks.

I am not sure whether this was introduced from 8i but 9i & 10g both versions have this feature.
You can use the ALTERNATE feature of log_archive_dest_n to set an alternate destination if the primary destination fails. In the sense, if the primary (mandatory) archive log destination fails because of either full or any other reason, the database starts archiving to the ALTERNATE destination. After you clear the primary destination, you have to manually switch the destinations to PRIMARY and ALTERNATE.
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/u00/app/oracle/admin/archive_1 MANDATORY NOREOPEN ALTERNATE=log_archive_dest_2';
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_2='LOCATION=/u01/app/oracle/admin/archive_2 OPTIONAL';
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_state_1=enable;
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=alternate;
    Thanks,
    Harris.

  • Exchange 2013 In Place Hold with In Place Archiving

I'd like to use in place hold to ensure all data is kept for 5 years rolling but still use in place archiving for all data over 1 year old.
Is this possible without all data between 1 and 5 years old being held both in the recoverable items folder of the primary mailbox as well as in the archive mailbox?

    Hi,
Based on your description, you want to use In-Place Hold to keep data for 5 years and use retention policy to move messages older than 1 year to archive mailbox.
If you have mails older than 1 year, then they will be moved to archive mailbox and In-Place Hold will not prevent the items being moved from the primary mailbox to archive mailbox. These won't go to the recoverable items folder in the primary mailbox.

  • Need in-Place Archive quota wise (Exchange Server 2013 )

    Dear All,
I have implement the exchange server 2013 for archiving. i have configure retention policy for day or year wise for archiving policy. i didn't found mailbox size wise retention policy for archiving. Mean, if one of exchange user mailbox size limit over before
day wise retention policy then the quota retention policy will be affect on that mailbox user
    Thanks

    Hi,
When an archive mailbox exceeds the specified archive warning quota, a warning event is logged in the Application event log.
When an archive mailbox exceeds the specified archive quota, messages are no longer moved to the archive, a warning event is logged in the Application event log, and a quota message is sent to the mailbox user.
By default, in Exchange 2013, the archive warning quota is set to 45 gigabytes (GB) and the archive quota is set to 50 GB.
Here is an article that may help you for your reference.

  • Shared Mailbox not archiving

We have in place archiving setup in Exchange 2013. Archiving is functioning perfectly for our standard mailboxes however for our shared mailboxes they are not archiving automatically, we have enabled the in-place archive, and it has been switched on for
over a month now and still the size of the archive mailbox is 3kb.

    Hi,
Do you place this shared mailbox in the mailbox database DB01?
If you place the shared mailbox in it, please use the following command to check content index status.
Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus -Identity "Mailbox Database" | fl *index*
If the index state of database is unhealthy, please bring to healthy state and then apply retention policy to move items to archive mailbox to check result.

  • Request info on Archive log mode Best Practices

    Hi,
Could anyone from their personal experience share with me the Best Practices for maintaining Archiving on any version of oracle. Please tell me
    1) Whether to place archives and log files on same disks?
    2) How many lgwr processes to use.
    3) checkpoint frequency.
    4) How to maintain speed of the server being run in archivelog mode.
    5) Errors to look.
    Thanks,

    1. Use separate mount point for archive logs like /archv
    2. Start using with 1 and check the performance.
    3. This is depends upon the redo log file size. Create your redo log file such that hourly maximum 5-8 log switch will happen. Try to make it less than 5 log switch per hour.
    4. Check the redo log file size.
    5. Check for archive log mount point space allocation. Take the backup of archive by RMAN and deleted the backed up archive logs from the archived destination.

  • Exchange 2013 archiving

    Hello,
    i have a problem with exchange 2013 in-place archiving.
Archive mailbox is in different database that mailbox database.
Yesterdey i have activated archiving for a first mailbox; when i activated archive many "Not read" message were sent.
Seem that when archive is active message sent to user that have request of read but that have not answer like "read" for the user when they are stored in archive mailbox send out reply to sender with "Not read: " in the subject.
I have checked "retention policy" and "retention tags" properties via exchange management shell but i did not find any field to disable unread in archive or something like.
Please can i have support for this problem?
    Thanks  in advance.

    Hi,
Before going further, I’d like to confirm how many senders are affected by the issue.
Please check if there is any Outlook rule about the unread message notification.
And we can also check if the sender select the option “always send read receipt”:
    File>options>mail>tracking

  • Gmail Archive in Mail 6.0

    Hi all
I want to use Mail 6.0 as my Gmail client. Receiving and sending works well. However, my issue is about the archive function. I archive read email to clear the inbox down to zero. When I do this in Mail 6.0, the Mail app creates a new folder in Gmail called [Imap/Archive] and places archived email there with that label and not in All Mail without a label. I have searched the net for an easy to archive email without that label but have come up short. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for reading and support offered
    Joe

You can do this and it sort of works but it puts an extra label on the message when it archives:
    ARCHIVING MESSAGES
Step 1: Add the Archive button to Apple Mail
Right-click on the toolbar in Apple Mail and choose “Customize Toolbar…” Find the Archive button and drag it to the toolbar.
Step 2: Find a message that you wish to archive and click the Archive button.
Apple Mail will create a label called “Archive” under your Gmail account and move the message there.
    But…
There is a discrepancy between how Apple Mail and Gmail handle archiving. In Gmail, as you know, there is a label called “All Mail.” This is where the archived messages are stored. When you receive a new email, this email will have two labels: ‘All Mail’ and ‘Inbox’. When you archive a message in Gmail, you are actually removing the label ‘Inbox’.
As you may have noticed, when you archive a message in Apple Mail, it gives it the label ‘Archive.’ I think this is perfect, because if it sent the message to ‘All Mail’ it would not be viewable in Apple Mail since we have hidden that label. You would have to go into Gmail to search for it or view it.

  • Archiving options for Outlook 2010/2013 Home and Business?

    Hi all,
Forgive me if this is covered already (I am sure it would be somewhere but I could not find a definitive answer).  We are looking at migrating from Google Apps to Exchange and I am trying to cost it all up and have a question in relation to archiving.
Our 450 users are not akin to archiving, given their gmail limits, they are just used to keeping everything, however with exchange that will have to change as we are going to host it locally.
The question I have is what archiving options are available to me given that all our office installations are Home and Business 2010/2013?  I have read the compatibility matrix which says outlook in this product does not support in-place archiving.
To test this I created an in-place archive for my account (outlook 2010 H&B) and when I re-open outlook I get my archive mailbox showing up.
I have not yet tested the mailbox retention policies and such like but I thought I would just ask as to what options would be available to me given this situation?
Given that my archive is now showing in outlook, what has caused that to happen? I would have thought that if it was not supported that it would not have shown up at all?  Can someone explain what functionality will not work and what will?
If we have to buy new copies of outlook for all our clients it just adds to the cost that I suspect will kill the move and management will say that we can stay on gmail.
Thanks for any direction you may have.

I understand that it is not supported, I was just commenting that It appeared to work in the tests that I had done and I was curious as to why
Aaron would you mind to share your findings on this if any! We are in the same situation as you were.
I have activated Online Archiving (on-premises) feature for 3 accounts on our Exchange 2010 and set them up with Retention Policy which Move to archive items aged more than 6 months and all works fine and old Items automatically being moved to Online Archive
mailbox which just appeared after enabling this on server for above 3 accounts.
The server is Exchange 2010 and clients are Outlook H&B 2013 which comes with DELL systems.
We already purchased Enterprise Licenses as well and have access to Microsoft Download pages to get Outlook 2013.
But since above is working just fine, we really would like to know, if we don't install Outlook 2013 and activate it with that license what in fact we are missing in terms of functionalities regarding Online Archiving!
Really looking forward to hear back from you or anybody who can clear the confusion.
    Thanks for assistance!

  • No PDF printer after upgrading to Acrobat X Professional

Hi, I recently upgraded from Acrobat 6 Pro to Acrobat X Pro (technically, an upgrade isn't possible but the Acrobat X Pro installer will uninstall Acrobat 6 and install Acrobat X). After performing the installation "successfully" I no longer have an Adobe PDF printer under printer and faxes.  I'm running Windows XP SP3 (32-bit).  If I uninstall X and reinstall 6 the printer comes back.  But nothing I do can get the printer there under X.  Am I missing something?

While editing is allowed its just meant to correct a misspelling here or there. Not whole sentences. Another thing that can affect light editing of PDF with Acrobat on OSX.6.7.
On some applications bad fonts (use FontBook) to verify your fonts. Open Fontbook without any applications on (such as acrobat, Reader, Ms Office). select all fonts. in click on box that shows fonts. Randomly select a font. The hold command key(⌘) press A, that selects all fonts. Look for and use Verify Fonts. Any fonts that can not be verified, or repaired with a Font reair Program should be removed.
also while all fonts are selected, look for an use reconcile Fonts. This looks for Duplicate fonts. In some cases the same application would use one version one time andanother another time thus causing spacing problems.  click on each one found and see which is duplicated. Disable the oldest version.
do this with all duplicate fonts found.
If the above corrects the problem, locate disabled fonts, User >Library >Fonts disabled and Main Library Fonts disabled remove to desktop Make archives and place archives in safe place( in case you need to swap fonts).
Next if you have X.6.7 Install this Patch: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1377. This corrects some font problems caused by the OSX.6.7 the update that affects Adobe Products, (such as Acrobat, Reader Indesign and others, As well as Microst Products for Mac)

  • Perl deleted

I believe my co-worker accidently deleted some of the Perl files included with Leopard. What is the best way to re-install Perl so it functions properly?

The OS X installer has different options to erase everything first, Erase and Install, or to just replace the system files keeping the user files and third-party apps in place, Archive and Install.
Pacifist has a neat feature that can compare the installer packages on the OS X DVD and the actual files installed on your system. It will tell you exactly what is missing, then you can select just those missing parts to reinstall. Read all the info on their web site, this is probably your best option, and really cool software, it was mentioned in an article in the last issue of MacWorld magazine.

Sorry, I didn't realize there wasn't a 10.5 perl package available via fink.

  • After upgrading to Acrobat X Pro, having problems editing text

I just upgraded to Acrobat X Pro from Acrobat 8 Professional. I've opened a document (created in Acrobat 8) and when I try to edit the text, it all seems fine until I try to save it. Then the formatting goes awry. The spacing between paragraphs disappears and the document is one solid block, so to speak. I've tried various methods of text editing/saving but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Hardly, and no.
The moderators are busy... moderating the forum.  We're constantly scanning the boards, moving threads to their proper place, archiving messages, working with forum members who don't know or understand forum rules (or refuse to follow them), breaking up arguments and, in general, just keeping things tidy around here.  We do answer some questions (some of us more than others - I usually just point people to info via links; others give extensive technical instructions or information), but mostly we're the janitors.
And as erik said, most of us don't none of the moderators work for Lenovo and don't have hands-on experience with or access to all the systems.  Those of us who are volunteers are moderators or superusers from other forums, so we're jumping back and forth all the time.
That's why we depend so much on forum members like you to share your experience and knowledge with others.  You know things that we may not, and the more people share, the more valuable the knowledgebase here becomes for everyone.
    Does that answer your questions?
