??? in place of arabic caracters

hi,
i'm using oracle 9ids version, in the PCs of my compagnie we change the nls_lang to FRENCH_FRANCE.AR8MSWIN1256 of the forms environnment to be able developping with arabic caracters, and it's ok, but when i unstall oracle 9ids in a server of our client, our fmb in arabic dont work, all of the libelles changed to "?????"
can i have some help?!(and sorry for my bad english!!)
what can i do to solve this problem?!

ok
what i want to know is this difference, wich i dont see absoletly, i make the same instalation and the same modification but differents results!!!
what i do in general to use characters arabe in forms builder is to go to the regedit and change on the home of the 9ids the values of nls_lang to FRENCH_FRANCE.AR8MSWIN1256, in my machine this is what i did.
in the server of the client its not the same, with forms builder and naturaly after the execution on a web browser, the results ; ???? in all my labels and buttons!!
for youre last question, i dont see what can i add to give more details to my problem, if you have some specif questions...welcome
i mentione that my probleme not in the code of my sources(of course) i want just to see my arabic's characters, i dont know if i can send you a capture ecran of my source in "????????" ?

    Hi Sharat
I see that you have two entries for helvetica font in your uifont.ali. Be aware that order of precedence is alias->embed->subset. If the helvetica part is appearing junk, try and comment out the entry in embed section and let the subsetting happen.
On Solaris, ensure that the case of font file names match.

  • Arabic characters showing as garbage

I have a report created with version of Crystal Report that came with Visual Basic 6.
Now I have to use same report in my .net application. When I show this report in my application or open it in Crystal Reports XI, X or 8 version it shows garbage character in place of Arabic text everywhere in all reports e.g. "C?U? C???UU?" .
Please help me to solve this problem.

    Thanks for reply.
Its not related to DB connection because its showing the report text fields (constant fields) as garbage. In CR designer it sometimes shows Arabic data and text fields correctly but in my application its always showing garbage characters.

  • Arabic instant messaging is erronous

    Hello everyone,
This is actually a bug that I have wanted to report for a long time, but did not know where to report bugs.
Whenever I use arabic language everything goes to the right and left when some english letters are used, for instance:
with exclamation mark/full stop/double quote or any Shift+number should look like this (Keep in mind arabic is read from right to left!):
    !!! ARABIC_TEXT
    but it shows like this:
    ARABIC__TEXT !!!
This is very annoying, writing a word in arabic while writing in english mixes everything to the right and left until it becomes unreadable for example (Keep in mind arabic is written from right to left, in this case I will number which text is written first):
    Should be:
    ARABIC_TEXT_2 ENGLISH_TEXT ARABIC_TEXT_1
however, it shows like this (right to left will become inversed):
    ARABIC_TEXT_1 ENGLISH_TEXT ARABIC_TEXT_2
this problem extends to everything, even typing any number while using Arabic typing will make the numbers go to the other side of the text:
For example it should go like this: (again, keep in mind arabic is read from right to left)
    500 ARABIC_TEXT
But instead it would show like this:
    ARABIC_TEXT 500
this problem is very annoying and makes writing in arabic (or any related language such as Persian.. etc) very tiresome, where I have to go to a new line to write any english letter to show the text in a correct/readable way.

Hi and welcome to the Skype community,
    Thanks for your detailed report.
I take you are using Skype for Windows desktop: If the majority of your conversation is taking place in Arabic I recommend switching your application language to Arabic because this way the whole chat layout switches to the correct right-to-left (RTL) display. There is also a keyboard shortcut available on Windows 7 and Windows 8: Use CTRL together with the left or right SHIFT key to change the text display direction from LTR or RTL.

    Hi,
    Try this...
when viewing in a browser, you could try setting the encoding (on the view menu normally) to arabic (ISO-8859-6).
But I am not sure have you done it or not?

On the target database you will have to change the NLS_CHARACTERSET parameter. You will probably need you dba to do this for you.
The source I take it will have no issues as you can see the correct data.
Question - how are you loading the data? You may have to change the 'EXT_CHARACTERSET' property of your LKM to UTF-16
    Cheers

  • Arabic digits don't work when typing using arabic as a language

    Hi there,
I am designing a book in arabic. When I type numbers they are in Hindi (١،٢،٣...) format. I want the numbers to be typed in arabic (0,1,2,3...) because that's what is used in arabic.
In the "Middle East Character Formats" section of the "Paragraph style options" of the paragraph style I am using, I changed the Digits to "Arabic (0123456789)" but no change happened to my paragraph. The digits are still displayed in "Hindi" format.
I would appreciate it if someone helped me with this,
    Thanks in advance.

I changed the Digits to "Arabic (0123456789)" but no change happened to my paragraph. The digits are still displayed in "Hindi" format.
Are there any overrides on the paragraph? If there is a plus symbol next to the style name when you have selected some text in the paragraph, then the selected text doesn't match the Paragraph Style in some way. You'd need to clear the overrides (by right-clicking on the style name? I never remember, I assigned a keyboard shortcut because I spend so much time clearing overrides) to get the text to return to the style you defined.
It could also be a character style that has an overt "Hindi digits" definition. Are there any character styles applied?
I am designing a book in arabic. When I type numbers they are in Hindi (١،٢،٣...) format. I want the numbers to be typed in arabic (0,1,2,3...) because that's what is used in arabic.
    Um, what?
I usually see Hindi numerals used in Arabic. Because I set type for an Arabic-reading population in the US, my translators often like to use both numeral systems within the same document. (You know, Arabic for phone numbers and street numbers, but Hindi for everything else.) But when I read documents that come from places where Arabic is the dominant or sole language, the numerals are almost always exclusively in Hindi format. So maybe I'm not understanding what you say here, but it sounds incorrect to me.

  • When I Place Text, the Numbers Come Out in Arabic

I am using CS4 ME. When I place English text from Word into InDesign, the English text comes out okay but the numbers in the text come out in Arabic. How can I fix this?
    Thank you.

    1. In the Word document the digits are numerals.
    2. In InDesign paragraph styles when I select the number style to be 1,2,3, the digits come out in Arabic even though the language for the document is English.
It seems that the only way for me to get 1,2,3 digits is to actually select Arabic digits in the menus. Only that way InDesign gives me 1,2,3 digits. Strange.

as the map before this was working ??

    Thanks for your interest.
Excuse my ignorance as I'm not sure what you meant by "1 of 5" optimization. Did you mean median of 5 ?
Regarding swapping pointers, yes it is common sense and rather common among programmers to swap pointers instead of swapping large data types, at the small price of indirect access to the actual data through the pointers.
However, there is a rather unobvious and quite terrible side effect of using this trick. After the pointer array is sorted, sequential (sorted) access to the actual data throughout the remaining of the program will suffer heavily because of cache misses.
Memory is being accessed randomly because the pointers still point to the unsorted data causing many many cache misses, which will render the program itself slow, although the sort was fast!!.
Multi-threaded qsort is a good idea in principle and easy to implement obviously because qsort itself is recursive. The thing is Multi-threaded qsort is actually just stealing CPU time from other cores that might be busy running other apps, this might slow
down other apps, which might not be ideal for servers. The thing researchers usually try to do is to do the improvement in the algorithm it self.
I Will try to look at your sorting code, lets see if I can compile it.

  • Non-english caracters in file names

    Hi,
    I use archlinux, KDE, Dolphin.
I have a problem with file names with the norwegian caracters ø æ å in some file names. I get the message that "the file does not exist". I can change the file name in the terminal, but it's a lot of work. In Dolphin the place of this letters there are a question sign. In the terminal there are different signs and a number.
Can anybody tell me what causes the problem and a way to solve it.

harida wrote:What I meant was, can it have something to do with the fact that I have downloaded these files from a torrent site,
and that they have been stored on ntfs by the user sharing them?
I don't know, but I just experienced something similar.
I used cpio to pass files from a Bluewhite64 JFS /home partition to my new Maxtor Basics 1TB external USB disk, which I had reformatted from NTFS to JFS. SOME file and directory names containing the letter 'ø' or 'Ø' are visible in file managers and in a console, yet when I try to open them the system claims they don't exist. I can NOT open them from the command line either. The names appear garbled under Bluewhite64 as well, but there I can open them without problems. I had always thought I would get safe copies with cpio...
    I have LOCALE="nb_NO.utf8" in /etc/rc.conf, and
    nb_NO.UTF-8 UTF-8
    nb_NO ISO-8859-1
    activated in /etc/locale.gen
Interestingly, with the keyboard mapped to 'no.latin1', the letter 'ø' appears as a 'funny' character on the console under runlevel 3. When I try the other choice for Norwegian, 'no.map.gz', I get a dvorak keyboard instead of qwerty. You can never win.
The problematic files in question, i.e. of the ones I copied, are old and have passed through various OS's. That may be part of of the problem, but it does not explain the Norwegian keyboard anomalies in Arch, or the fact that the files are loadable and readable under Bluewhite64.

  • Problem with Arabic characters

    Hi:
I don't know if this is the correct place to post the question, but here it goes...
I have an SQL 2005 database, connected via a Linked Server to an Oracle Database.
I have a table in SQL that contains arabic characters, and I need to insert it into an Oracle table.
These characters appear as "????" after being inserted in the oracle table.
I guess I hace some collation/characterset problem, but cannot finf the solution.
The column where the arabic characyers are saved in SQL is defined as:
         [Remarks] [nvarchar](1000) NULL,
And default SQL server collation is: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
When I do a select on this table, it can see arabic correctly.
    ORACLE NLS CONFIGURATION IS:
    PARAMETER VALUE
    NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
    NLS_CURRENCY $
    NLS_ISO_CURRENCY AMERICA
    NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS .,
    NLS_CHARACTERSET AR8MSWIN1256
    NLS_CALENDAR GREGORIAN
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT DD-MON-RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_SORT BINARY
    NLS_TIME_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY $
    NLS_COMP BINARY
    NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS BYTE
    NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP FALSE
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
    NLS_RDBMS_VERSION 11.1.0.6.0
The sql sentence in SQL server that moves the data to oracle is:
    INSERT INTO openquery(Oracle_DB, 'select Ticket_NO,Remarks from webportal.webcc_escal_det')
         (Ticket_NO,Remarks )
         SELECT Ticket_NO, Remarks
         FROM Details(nolock)
    Thanks in advance!!
    Mariana

I think first you should check your character set
    SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET'
For oracle to display correctly, you need to change your character set that caters to Arabic
