In previous versions, I could type a partial address in the address bar -- say, nytimes or amazon -- and it would go to the correct site after I hit enter. With Firefox 6, it just goes to Google. How do I get that older, more efficient function back?

After typing the partial address, I do get a dropdown that usually includes the correct, full address in the first listing. Also, the sites are all in my bookmarks folder.

You can also do this without an extension by modifying a pref on the about:config page.
You can modify the pref keyword.URL on the about:config page to use a Google Lucky search.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

Porting Firefox OS to a device can be a very complex, risky, and time consuming endeavor. It is very simple for phones that already have builds available for them, phones that were created specifically to run Firefo OS.

My new tab pin page is gone and automatically goes to google; how do I get my pin page back?

Usually when I open a new tab in Firefox, I have a page of pinned sites. I must have downloaded something and accidentally disabled it and now I get Google every time I open a new tab, rather than the page with pins. Is there any way to re-download the pin page, or is there somewhere I can go to reactivate it or make sure it's activated? I don't have any Firefox updates.

Try to reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

The little search bar used to keep Google search phrase showing but in Firefox 5.0 it doesn't. How do I get that feature back?

I'm not sure what the feature is technically called. I have Google as the start page and use that to search.
In older versions of Firefox, after entering a search phrase in the main Google search bar, the phrase was shown next to a little Google icon. It was usually below the bar showing the URL I happened to click on.
I could then open a new tab and click on the little Google icon and get more search results in that new tab. I could then compare web pages on different tabs.
Maybe I have set the tabs function up differently? In any case, I hope there is a way to use the same search phrase in different tabs.

it was so convenient before, and how I got most people to convert to Firefox - just type in the keyword, like "ebay" or "hotmail" and firefox found the webpage for you.

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.

I resently purchased an ipad and i think i could help. Does it look like a plug and itunes? Thats what came up on mine. Try pluging it into your laptop and go on itunes. They say the new ipad with ios5, you dont need your computer, then i cant help you there. But go to an apple store they are very helpful. They helped me recently and they are very nice. Try this general troubleshooting procedure:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

You can do this by right-clicking on one of the tabs in the tab bar and selecting "Bookmark All Tabs". It will then prompt you for a name to give the new folder of bookmarks and where to put it. When viewing any folder in the bookmarks menu there will be an "Open All In Tabs" to click at the bottom of the folder to open them all at once.

No software update is worth the time it will take to do that!!!!! I don't know about the rest of you but I am woefully disappointed in Adobe. We haven't had to uninstall anything to get the new. We are all working and have deadlines. This is A HARDSHIP ON ADOBE'S USERS AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT ON THAT END. Or give up some monthly fees.

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed). Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

Images are not "in" Lightroom. Image files are on the hard drive, and the Lightroom edits are in the catalog.
Lr creates a link between the catalog and the image files on the hard drive.
So, there is no need to bring images from one version of Lr to the other.
When you install Lr4 it will find your existing catalog and update it (in fact it updates a copy of the catalog); Lr4 will then "know" where your images are because their location is recorded in the catalog.
It is the unfortunate choice of the word "import" that creates the impression that images are in Lr like eggs in a basket. Nope!
