In random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

in random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

I've heard this excuse before, that what we think is random really isn't, but when certain trends occur enough times, its pretty clear that there is some kind of algorithm or something in the coding that affects the shuffle.
I know random means random, but there are too many "random" coincidences and apparent patterns that occur to raise doubt that it truly is as random as Apple claims.
One such example, is that when using the Shuffle Songs feature (that shuffles all tracks on the iPod) I had 2-3 tracks from the same album (an album I had never even listened to yet) showing up within the first 40 tracks five times in a row. Numerous other songs showed up in at least 3 of the 5 "trials." Out of 8,000 songs.
On a playlist (of 300 or less songs is all I have tried), if you have multiple songs off the same album, you are far more likely to hear at least one other song off a given album within about 10 songs then you are to not hear a song off the same album. A specific example of this is on a playlist of 105 songs I have, there are 3 songs off one album, however nearly every time 2 of the songs will play within a 10 track range, and nearly as often all 3 songs will play within the same 20 track range.
I know random isn't perfectly spaced songs, but when certain things happen often enough, the odds of it become so low that even the "true random" explanation doesn't cover it.

  • Some songs stop playing after 60 seconds

Most of the songs on my ipod were burned thru itunes from cd's I've purchased new from retail stores, Amazon, etc. I'm having a problem where some songs stop playing after 60 seconds. It then goes on to play the next song. Can anyone out there shed any light on this for me?
    Thank you.

This has started to happen to me too.

  • For certain songs on my iPhone 4s with iOS7 some songs stop playing audio but continue playing the song almost as if it were muted. Where can I fix this? Say "Stronger" by Kanye West stops playing sound after 2:25 but it is 5 minutes long.

Basically it is just like it says. Certain songs stop playing sound after a certain point in the song but the song continues playing and ticking down like it normally would. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi I found the answer from another post. So far everything is working find. I been trying to fix this since march,

Deleting the application rarely solves anything on Macs. A better starting point is normally to delete the preference file for the application (in Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist) or see if you have the same problem in another user account on the computer.

  • My iPhone 4s music library is glitchy... skipping some songs, stops playing others... ideas?

Since upgrading to an iPhone 4s, I have noticed some strange behavior from my music player.  Nearly every time I play music for more than 20-30 minutes, something will happen and a song will suddenly skip or just stop playing altogther.  It is extremely weird.  It will physically not allow me to back up to the song that skipped, or start it over.
This is not a permissions issue, everything is fine on that end.  It is almost always when shuffling my music, although tonight when I noticed it happen to a particular song, I tried to play it buy selecting the exact song (and then album) and it would still not play.  Tried it on my iTunes library on my MBP immediately after and it played just fine.
I have seen very old discussions about AAC format.  Nearly 100% of my music is AAC (the particular song tonight is even one purchased from iTunes), and my library has never had any issues like this before, including my old iPhone 4 or any of the numerous iPods, iPads and computers that I've run.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?
    Suggestions?

Ok, I have been here and found an answer....
Assuming you are steaming using Bluetooth and the problem only started after updating to IOS6.... ?
I stream to a good hifi system so my answer is only related if you are steaming to a Bluetooth adapter or a
    Bluetooth enabled system
    And also...
If you are using Bluetooth & ios6....+ here is an answer I got ...
Many producers of Bluetooth adapters etc.... Use bt2.1 and state compatible with bt4.
Trouble is, bt4 wasn't around at the time so they assumed compatibility.
Now.... From IOS6.... Apple upgraded to bt4, gives better Bluetooth connectivity so they are delivering added benefit.
A lot of older bt adapters have firmware bugs with bt4.
I contacted my supplier who wouldn't agree but threatened legal action if I was to publish...
Can't of ford the fight so... Sold my bt receiver on eBay and bought an apple airport express.
Problem solved and also, i got a better quality of music.
Remember you do need wifi to use the airport express but who hasn't got that these days ?
    One last point...
if you are streaming to a decent hifi system and choose to do go down the airport express route
The mini adapter.... Headphone out socket on the airport express is also a mini toslink socket...
So, if you want to get the best from your music (limited by iTunes of course) you can use the toslink optical digital output .
Then you get into Dacs etc and start spending more n more...
    Hope this helps

  • Some songs stop playing after minute 1

I recently purchased some songs from iTunes and the majority of them have this issue, they stop playing after minute 1 or 1:30.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
BTW the tracks that cut short, did you preview each of those for the full minute or minute 30? There's a bit of me that thinks the previews and the short downloads might be related to each other.

I've purchased an entire album but some of the songs stop playing midway through. How can I rectify this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • SONG STOPPED PLAYING AND RESETS. ITS BRAND NEW AND I DID NOT DO ANYTHING

I just got a new iPod nano 7th generation on December 26 2014 and i got a glitch. any song stops playing and resets. I did not do anything.

    Hello Daniel,
It sounds like you may need to restore your iPod nano and resync the music from your computer to resolve this issue.  Here are some specific troubleshooting steps:
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203681
The Five Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have an issue with iPod nano. Try these steps one at a time until the issue is resolved. If one of the following doesn't help, read on for solutions to specific issues.
Reset iPod nano. First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
Restart your computer and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
    Download and reinstall iTunes.
    Restore iPod nano.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

    Background
It's important to understand the difference between updating and restoring. Updating simply installs the software that controls iPod and does not affect the songs and files stored on iPod's disk. Restoring erases the iPod's disk and restores iPod to its original factory condition.
Warning: Because restoring erases all the songs and files on iPod, back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library. If you use the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, see  this document for more information.
Note: See  this article if you need to restore an iPod shuffle.
     How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

  • Songs stop playing in the middle of the track

Ok, so I've got hundreds on songs in my library and I noticed that certain songs stop playing in the middle of the song on my iPod. I get dead air, and then it starts playing the next song on the list even though the screen still shows the album art of the song that died. I have deleted the song from my player and then re-downloaded the song straight from iTunes only to have it happen again. I decided to run a little test and play that track on both my iPhone (3GS) and iPod (iPod Touch bought 2013) and sure enough, the song dies around the exact same time on both devices. I did not try syncing either devise to my computer (music files are not on my computer hard drive, but on a separate hard drive), so it wasn't like I kept removing and syncing a corrupted file. Now I'm finding more and more tracks have this same issue. So I have two questions:
1.) Is there a way to identify corrupted music files on my devices or will have to listen to each track in it's entirety to identify whether it is corrupted or not?
2.) Will I need to repurchase these tracks in order to correct the problem of playing in it's entirety?

I have similar problem on two photo sleeks - affecting the same songs. I think it is a problem in the ripping of the CDs rather than the hardri'ves - otherwise it would affect different songs?

When I am in the iTunes store site and listening to samples of music the songs stop playing after 12 seconds. Does anyone know a way to get it to play the full one and one half minutes?

I have a similar problem with at least two songs that I know of, one is an iTunes download (encrypted) the other was imported from a CD using iTunes (no encryption). Both songs play 2-3 seconds then immediately go to the next song. The "weird" thing -- I plugged my iPod into my new MacBook which has no songs other than what are on my iPod (i.e., not playing the song from another source) and both songs play fine. Unplug the iPod from the computer, plug in headphones and the songs skip again.
I've gone through the 5 R's as well, with no luck.

  • When i download songs from i tunes to i pod some songs dont play or they skip songs or they make 2 copies of songs  what to do

when i download songs from i tunes library to i pod  some songs dont play or they skip songs  or they make 2 copies of songs  what to do

    *Skipping songs*
The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
You may like to try scanning the files with MP3 Validator which can find & fix some internal MP3 errors.
Some users have also suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information can be a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I have found files for which these solutions don't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original files back onto the iPod.
