In search of FCP 5.1.4 upgrade...?

I'm working on an editing project that involves two editors with two different editing stations. I'm using FCP 5.1.4, and my associate is using FCP 5.1. Last night, we tried to open a project created on a FCP 5.1.4 with Mac loaded with FCP 5.1, and received a "GENERAL ERROR 41" message.
I'm assuming this has to do with two versions of FCP that are only upward-compatible?
I've repaired permissions, Google-searched for "GENERAL ERROR 41" solutions, and it seems like this is probably the problem.
I tried to download the FCP 5.1.4 upgrade, but I haven't had any luck finding it. It's as if Apple wanted to deny folks a chance to upgrade. Very weird.
Anyone out there have any ideas where I might be able to get this upgrade?

P.S. I must say I am appalled at Apple's apparent hypocrisy: Final Cut 5.1.4 not only fixed bugs and adds support for new cameras, but is required for Leopard. Yet there is no way to obtain an update past 5.0.4 via real Apple channels. A call to Apple got me as far as a level-1 tech who told me "there was a paid update to 5.1.2, but it ended last year" (almost true - that update was from 5.0, was a Universal build, and included new media); I am awaiting a call from a supervisor tomorrow, who hopefully has some actual facts at hand regarding all this. The updates from 5.1 were all free and available though Apple.com or Software Update, until Apple pulled them in a very clear move to force users to pay for the FC Studio 2 upgrade. How positively Microsoftian of them.

Full-Text Search has not worked since we upgraded to 2012

I have a filestream database and table. Our full-text searches have always worked until we upgraded to SQL 2012 in December. Now, no file that has been uploaded since December is searchable. What has gone wrong here. It should have been
a clean upgrade. We are not getting any error messages. We are just not getting any records returned when we search on a word that we know are in the documents we've uploaded since December (for instance, the word 'aluminum').
Filestream is enabled for the instance.
A full-text catalog exists and contains a full-text index (the same one we've always had). Full-text indexing is ENABLED.
I've tried rebuilding the catalog and the index. I've tried to do a FULL POPULATION on the table.
We haven't changed our queries nor the way the files are uploaded.
Nothing works. I have been a database administrator since the SQL 2005 days and I have never seen anything like this.
Please help.

According to your description, in theory , if you can do a full-text search for SQL Server 2008, when upgrading the SQL Server version from 2008 to 2012, the Full text indexing feature should be run well in SQL Server 2012 databases. If not , you can try
to restore your database from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012, create an new Full-Text Catalog and Index on the table or view in the database, and then use Full Text Index to search words, phrases and multiple forms of word or phrase via FREETEXT() and
CANTAINS() with “and” or “or” operators. check if it is normal that the full-text search feature is enabled in the SQL Server 2012 instance. For more information , see:

Note: In SQL Server 2012 SP1 ， the server will report that Full Text Search is not supported in this edition of SQL Server when it clearly is. The workaround is to create the initial catalog by using a T-SQL query:

Will a FCP 3.0.4 upgrade from FCP 1 load onto a new Mac Pro

Will a FCP 3.0.4 upgrade from FCP 1 load onto a new Mac Pro. I have tried loading in onto a mac book with no luck. I think its because my original FCP 1 loades using OS9 and because the new Mac Pro does not have an old operating system on it I cant load my original FCP.

You should upgrade to FCP 5.1 or 6 as Jerry says.
However, if you are desperate you could try this :-
Install just your FCP 3 upgrade and also put in your FCP 1 serial number when asked.
Whenever you try to open FCP you will probably get an error message. Click the "esc" key and FCP should open.

GB, iWeb keep searching for FCP files in their Media Browsers

I recently (as in yesterday) upgraded to iLife '06. I did this primarily to produce a podcast which would be hosted by my .mac site- using iWeb to create it. I repaired permissions, ran MacJanitor, upgraded, restarted, repaired permissions, ran MacJanitor and openened GarageBand. All was fine. I made a new podcast file, connected my microphone, ready to do a test podcast, when the following suddenly popped up:
Hitting "Stop" didn't do anything.
I waited patiently when eventually this came up:
The options were to search or cancel, but I chose cancel, because I don't need any of my videos (or at least not yet) in GarageBand. The file it is looking for above is a FCP file. It's one of FCP "Render Files" and obviously cannot be read by GarageBand. Unfortunately, after I hit cancel, I get about 7 secs of freedom before a similar message looking for the next of the render files (there are hundreds of them) pops up and then it continues on and on and on...
I don't want GarageBand to process these files, I want it to stop looking! Unfortunately, this same problem occurs with iWeb. So, the two apps I bought iLife for, I can't use. Any guidance in this area would be most appreciated.

I've just tested the rename approach (simply added an "a" after "Movies" in the folder name)
Garage Band and iWeb no longer scan the folder for "media browser" content after doing so.
It depends a bit on JC's "workflow" which way would be more appropriate. I guess simply moving the problematic FCP files to another would resolve the problem for him as far as Garage Band and iWeb go, on a permanent basis. But he may need the FCP files in the "Movies" folder for other reasons, in which case simply renaming when using Gargeband or iWeb may be quicker. It would be nice to find a more elegant answer though. I wonder if it could be a "mediabrowser" plist issue?

FCP 5.1.2 upgrade now no communication with Sony FX1 HDV Camcorder

Hi - I recently upgraded to FCP 5.1.2 then tried to capture footage with my Sony FX1 HDV camcorder, but the software indicates that it cannot initialize my device. The only way it will work is when I change the capture settings to HDV Apple Intermediate Codec, but then this setting requires rendering.
The camcorder works fine in iMovie, so I know it is not that. If I reinstall FCP 5.1, then everything works fine, but not with the 5.1.2 upgrade.
I've also tried "trashing" my FCP settings for a fresh start, but nothing changed. I checked the settings on the camera, but they are fine. Again everything works in iMovie. Finally, I also removed the recommended QT files and reinstalled QT, but no change.
Any suggestions? I'd just stay at FCP 5.1, but I now have several projects in 5.1.2 that are not backward compatible.

This worked for me. Probably something in this sequence caused Firewire, FCP or the Digital Mystery Gods to re-align:
1. Simplify the Firewire routing among external hard drives. On its own this didn't produce a positive result, but it may have contributed somehow. In particular, avoid multiple loops among hard drives. Not a likely suspect, because the Z1U was directly connected to the front Firewire jack.
2. From the FCP Install/upgrade/crossgrade disks, load the latest QMaster software. It's in the Extras folder and is called AppleQmasterNode.mpkg.
3. Reload from the same upgrade disks a fresh FCP. It won't have the latest enhancements—and that may be an issue—but it will reload. Uncheck the rest of the options when loading this in. FCP seems to be the only program with a connection issue.
4. Update the reload. Software update now brings FCP 5 up to FCP 5.1.2 but I would swear I saw 5.1.3 in the update download. Perhaps not. The result says 5.1.2 and now it recognizes what only iMovie HD had recognized before; the Z1U camera.
I know a lot of folks seem to have parallel-sounding issues. A lot of advice seems to focus on "toss the prefs", "fix the permissions", "sprinkle the chicken blood", etc. but none of those had any effect on this issue for me.
The one thing I THINK worked was the QMaster/FCP second re-upgrade.

Search function no longer works after upgrading to 10.5.6

After upgrading to 10.5.6 I noticed that the search command no longer finds anything on my connected AFP Server (OS X Server 10.3. 9). When I start a search in the finder, even though I can see the item on the screen it gives a result of zero. Is any one else out there experiencing this issue. Is there a workaround?

Ahhh! The proverbial missing information. Thanks for clarifying. Apple always has plans to fix problems, but their timetable might not meet your expectations. I strongly suggest that you report this to Apple. Send Feedback and send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

Google search engine no longer works after upgrading to Firefox 11

I just upgraded to Firefox 11 earlier this evening. Now I'm trying to do a search with Google. I got the search results and clicked on what I wanted only to get taken to the Google home page with a new Google search engine entry box. There was a google sign-in thing but I shouldn't have to sign in just to do a search. I switched to yahoo search and got the info I wanted then switched back to google to try to figure out what on earth is going on. Now when I click on the item in the results that I want the tab at the top sort of blinks for an instant that says connecting then stops and stays on the results page. If I right-click on the item and select open in a new tab (or new page), I can go to that page, but I shouldn't have to always right click to go to a new tab or new page. It was never that way before I got to Firefox 11. Can this be fixed or do I have to just abandon google?

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Clear Firefox's Cache

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Also, I think the Ask toolbar (add-on) has been reported to create problems with the links in Google search results. You could try disabling it here:

FCP 5.1 universal upgrade question

I just purchased a MacPro. Sadly, I missed the upgrade deal for FCP Studio owners. Don't really want to spend $700 for the upgrade. Now that Leopard isn't coming out for a few months, and supposedly FCP 6 is going to depend greatly on it. Any thoughts about the "deal" coming back?

But more seriously, the only thing you can do now is wait till the NAB announcement or till FCS 6.0 will be. Maybe during 2-3 days we will know more about new Apple products or promotions.

Ibooks search function slow & sluggish after ios8 upgrade

With a large collection of digital books, I have always loved the ipad and ibooks for the simple fact that the search function was by far superior to those offered by other tablet competitors. I upgraded last night, and have immediately found that the search function is now sluggish and lags as i type (was not this way with ios7). I own an ipad air, and I have compared ibooks on my friends ipad gen 3 who is still on ios7 and hers is faster than mine!
What has changed to justify the sluggish feel and speed to what was once a very light and speedy app???

I experience this, too. I wonder whether the iBooks library search now extends to one's iCloud collection, slowing the process If that's it, there should be a configuration option to turn off the "feature."

Searching in calendar after mountain lion upgrade

Since upgrading to mountain lion, when I enter some text in the search box to find an event that contains that text, the search finds nothing at all. I'm unclear that it is actually loooing in the different calendars that I have and only looking in one of them. Or it is only seeing events that have been entered since the upgrade and not any that were in existence in the early ical app. Please advise. Thanks for all of your help.

I didn't clean install Mountain Lion yet (I am still on Lion), and the "problem" is that I have been using a HDD with a Master Boot Record partition scheme and Mac OS Extended (journaled) format for doing my Time Machine backups : it's working without any problem for a year now, but I'm afraid of doing the update to Mountain Lion because apparently Time Machine doesn't support Master Boot Record Drives very well (it prefers GUID partition tables), so I think that I'll have to reformat the my external HDD.
I don't know if it's the Master Boot Record partition scheme which causes these Time Machine problems or not....
I'm just curious to know what partition scheme antonio from belo horizonte is using...

ITurns search won't work unless I upgrade to 10.

I have an older 16-bit PC (Windows XP). Last year I tried to upgrade iTunes from 7.1, but it crashed the computer and I lost all my music. Now, suddenly, when I go into the iTunes store, it shows an "Upgrade to iTunes 10" screen -- which I don't dare try on this old PC -- and the search function is completely frozen. Are they forcing me to upgrade, or is this a tech issue? Thanks for the help.

Keyword search in fcp x not working

I just spent 6 hours keywording clips in FCP X. Now the search does not work at all. Nada. Nothing. Even one letter in the search box brings up the warning box..."No clips match the current filter setting." I've double clicked the magnifying glass and check out my criteria. Tried both clearing the criteria and adding keyword and text options, both to no avail.
Is this the moment in which I abandon fcp and get on with Premiere? How can such a basic thing as a search (which is fcp x's claim to fame) be so aggrivating. Absolutley nothing is working!!! Do I need to scap a folder somewhere?
Note: I'm using the trial version as I'm not convinced the new fcp is worth it yet. Could this be the problem?

Are you trying to search for stuff in all your events? I just don't get why there's any mention of "timeline"...
Anyway, here's me, selecting my drive, in the Event Library, and selecting a few choice keywords - http://i.imgur.com/47NcnPY.jpg
To get there I just clicked on the magnifying glass in the Event LIbrary and made the changes you can see in the dialog.
Yes, once you've done this, clicking anywhere in the textbox brings you back to this dialog - you can't type text into the original box anymore. This part makes sense to me.
What did throw me off at one stage, is that this dialog showing has a scrollbar *which I sometimes don't notice*... and it may be hiding a bunch of filters that is stopping anything from showing. It's so easy to miss (caught me while doing this simple demo) that I'd say there's a fault with the design of this dialog. It should be obvious if filters are out of view, somehow.

FCP video freezes - RAID upgrade problem?

Last week, the 4 drives in my RAID were replaced with 750GB drives, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), RAID 5. Initialization took about 36-40 hours, as expected. Previously, my 4 drives were 250 GB, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), RAID 0.
With this upgrade/change, my captures through FCP now have freezing video. I can see the video freeze in the FCP capture window, when I play the clip in FCP and when I play the clip in QT 7.4. By freezing video, I mean the video plays appropriately for a few seconds, then freezes for a couple of seconds, then plays appropriately for 10-15 seconds, then repeats. The audio is fine. Re-capturing yields the same problem, although with freezes in different places.
Could this be a result of the RAID upgrade? QT 7.4? For what it's worth, I have another Mac running on the other side of the RAID (FCP 5.0.4, QT 7.3, RAID 0) that is having no problem at all.
Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Can FCP 6 Academic be upgraded to 7???

looking at buying fcp 6.0 from a friend... wondering if i do so, can i just pay for the upgrade to 7??? it is the academic version and i think, if i remember correctly, the academic versions cannot be upgraded?

you are correct
in the past Apple doesn't allow you to upgrade an EDU for most of there pro apps
with AP2 to AP3 Apple did allow EDU user to upgrade HOWEVER that isn't saying that Apple will do that for other pro apps
