In search of Unity 5 ES89

Does anyone know if ES89 is available, just not public?
Trying to setup Digital Networking or Unity to Unity Connection Interchange and understand that for Unity 5 you need ES89.

thanks,

Hi,
This is not available on CCO, the lastest available is ES88, seems that you are a Cisco partner, so I recommend you to open a case on TAC or contact your AM in order to get this, also if your company holds an Advanced UC specialization you are elegible for PDI support, you may open a case on www.cisco.com/go/pdihelpdesk

  • Problems with subscriber search between unity servers in a dialing domain

I have two Unity 8 Active/Passive clusters in the following configuration Site A    Unity Cluster A    Exchange Server A Site B   Unity Cluster B   Exchange Server B The Exchange servers are on the same Active Directory Domain and in the same MS Exchange OrganizationThe unity clusters are on the same domain as the Exchange Servers and are connected to the same Cisco Call manager 7 system. The unity clusters are in a Dilaling Domain that should allow them to share subscriber information. Everything seems to be configured correctly but for some reason when I do search for all subscribers on Cluster A i can't see the subscribers on Cluster B and vise versa.  As a result the auto attendant on cluster A can't transfer calls to subscribers on cluster B. I've gone over every document I can find and no matter what i do i can't seem to solve the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Gyasi,
Firstly, please ensure you go through every step of the Cisco.com document on "Digital Networking" for Unity 8.0.   There are various different things that need to be configured; such as ensuring each of the Primary Unity servers, for each location, have had each of their Primary Location set to use the same Dialing Domain.
Does the GlobalSubscriber table, in SQL, include all of the users from the other cluster?   This will at least indicate whether or not Unity has been successful in synch'ing back all users from it's local Active Directory Domain Controller (DC).   If the DC's weren't communicating correctly, then this type of issue could easily occur.
    Kind regards,
    Craig

  • Windows patches install on unity server 5.0

How do you install window patches on unity servers
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    Hi Kirk
Cisco release patches for Unity as follows:
    1) Windows Patches - go to cisco.com/go/software and search for Unity 5.0. In that section you'll see Microsoft Updates for Unity. There's a single .exe you can download that is released regularly that contains all the supported service packs, patches, and so on for Unity. Run it on the server console or via VNC to install it (a simple next/next/finish wizard), but remember to disable Cisco Security Agent if you run it before installing.
    2) Unity patches are available but generally I wouldn't bother for a production system unless you are changing something in the environment already e.g. moving to a new Exchange version...

  • Ubuntu on MBP Dark Screen

    I have a macbook pro 13-inch [mid-2010].
I have installed rEFIt, and using this article [https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MactelSupportTeam/AppleIntelInstallation], have succesfully installed Ubuntu.
Everything seems to run fine from boot to rEFIt menu to GRUB menu and then to login screen, but after I login, the computer bothers me to not use Unity [apparently my hardware is not supported. Hmm.]. I login again using Ubuntu classic, hoping for some better news, then bam, everythings fine and dandy, except for one thing. The screen is too dark!
Would this be a hardware issue, or software issue, and what can I do to correct it?
[Also, how can I activate the wireless module ubuntu?]

Well you need to install drivers for your hardware, your using the default settings.
Hit your Additional Drivers program and run that, reboot. (won't get 3D so dont' bother)
Then hit the Ubuntu Software Center and search for "unity 2D" and install that. Reboot and enable

  • Globalmenu analysis tool / logger?

You know the 'global menus' that can be seen in Unity and Gnome, which are exported from the applications and then appear as a part of the desktop environment's interface?
I'm looking for a globalmenu 'provider' that actually does not display the menus, but rather, logs the info about menus that the app provides. It seems to me this application must exist, since it would be necessary for debugging Unity and Gnome global menus during their initial development. Searches (here, AUR, Google) have turned up nothing related.
(I had hoped to install Unity and see exactly how it worked, but the 'unity' package seems to be broken.)
Some context: Accessing less common actions in most applications is a pain, involving repeatedly lugging the pointer around and examining the screen, or remembering sequences of mnemonics (like 'Alt-I t h' -> Image->Transform->Flip horizontally). Global menu search ala Unity is not good enough by itself (non-menu actions, and composite actions, should also be accessible).
I'm developing a system to make this easy (dmenu style menu entry/macro searching, and hierarchical pie-menus via Gnome-Pie) for a restricted set of applications (in my case, graphics apps like MyPaint, GIMP, Krita, GrafX2, Inkscape)
Being able to introspect the menu data rather than having to enter it manually would be a HUGE timesaver for this.

Yes, I have tried it and looked around, only found some AT-SPI exports, for a very few apps. It is the tool I will use once I have something to inspect
    EDIT:
building mate-globalmenus is a serious trial, but I'm still going. In the meantime I found that you can find a lot of useful information about what UI elements are where, with what mnemonics, by grepping through the application's .po files, using a command like this:
    grep -B1 -Ee '^msgid.+_[a-zA-Z]' en_GB.po

  • Unity 4.2(1.0) delayed messages

We have customer who are having issues of delayed delivery of voicemails.. sometimes days...
The problem is that Unity holds some voicemails for days before releasing them. Some users saying that after return from holiday, they clear down all voicemails and then the following day they get some from a few days ago.
I have restarted the server and MTA service but this issue seems to return after few days.
Any idea what could be the issue or is there a bug in this version?
    Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Unity Express - Incoming calls wont get voice mail

CUE works fine with telephones on my local network. Incoming and outgoing calls work fine.
However when I get an incoming call via SIP trunk the call will not get forwarded to unity express after 10 seconds. The line goes dead.
I searched for another post which suggested the following commands:
    telephony-service
    call-forward pattern .T
    voice service voip
allow connections from h323 to sip
I've double checked them and there's still something wrong.
    Here's my current configuration:

I made a new dial-peer to handle incoming calls as follows.
    dial-peer voice 1000 voip
    description Incoming SIP
    translation-profile incoming SIPin
    voice-class codec 1
    session protocol sipv2
    incoming called-number .T
    dtmf-relay rtp-nte
    no vad
The translation-profile puts the call through to my 2000 extension.
This is my "show call active voice brief" when an external incoming call is ringing through to my 2000 ephone-dn.
To me this seems to show the dial-peer "1000" matching and using the g711ulaw codec

  • Unity Connection Voice Mail Only- NO MWI template

I am deploying a site with 8,000 mailboxes.  4,000 of those users are voice mail only without a telephone and will NOT require MWI.
I can manually remove the MWI setting from each mailbox, but I am looking at either a BATCH CSV setting or a TEMPLATE that I can turn OFF mwi when creating the users.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

    Hi there,
This setting change is available via Bulk Edit
Bulk Edit> Messages> Disable MWI functionality for this user
Bulk Edit changed in 8.x from where it was accessed in 7.x.
Here's a clip that speaks to how this is run now. You first search and select all
    the users you want to change and then choose Bulk Edit;
To Edit User Account Information in Bulk Edit Mode (some editing from original > this example
is for Caller Input settings but you'll see the point)
Step 1 In Cisco Unity Connection Administration, on the Search Users page, check the applicable user check boxes, and select Bulk Edit.
If the user accounts that you want to edit in bulk do not all appear on  one Search page, check all applicable check boxes on the first page,  then go to the next page and check all applicable check boxes, and so  on, until you have selected all applicable users. Then select Bulk Edit.
Step 2 On the Edit Caller Input page, change settings as applicable.
Note The  Status message at the top of the Edit Caller Input page tells you how  many user accounts are being edited. Also note that the page is  populated only with the fields that you are allowed to edit in bulk  mode, and that the fields available for edit also depend on whether all  of the user accounts reside on the local server.
Step 3 If applicable, set the Bulk Edit Task Scheduling Fields to schedule the Bulk Edit operation for a later date and/or time.
    Step 4 Select Submit.
Step 5 If  applicable, continue to change settings for these user accounts on the  related pages available from the Edit menu. As you make changes on each  page, select Submit before going on to the next page to make additional changes.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/user_mac/guide/8xcucmac090.html#wp1049545
Try a couple of test users first to come up with the exact plan.
If you prefer you can also use Bulk Edit via .csv
    As a test here I tried the Bulk Edit and chose;
User with Voicemail > Users referenced in this CSV file > Next
This then allowed me to browse to an existing "basic" .csv that I had
used to create a test user recently when playing with BAT. In this .csv
I had one user named Bob Uncle with DN/ext 5126. So when I used this method
the Bulk Edit tool (smart puppy ) selected only Bob Uncle for my edit choices
and I was able to change the Disable MWI functionality for this user
Again, please try manipulating some test users to perfect
    your methodology.
I have attached the test .csv I used
    Cheers!
    Rob

  • How do you search through configured Alternate Extensions to correct error message : The phone number or extension has already been assigned to some other object.

When configuring a new Unity Voicemail Account I receive this message : The phone number or extension has already been assigned to some other object. I understand that this means that the 10 digit number I am trying to configure as the alternate extension for this user is already configured for another object with Unity.
I need to search by the 10 digit number and determine where it is configured so I can change it and map to the correct end user.
I have attempted to to search Users via DTMF Access ID using the 10 digit number with nothing being returned via that search.
How do I Search all of the copnfigured Alternate Extensions within our Unity Server?

A subscriber info dump is likely the fastest way.  If you're curious regarding other methods, you can also use the Data Link Explorer (CUDLE) tool which is in the Cisco Unity Tools Depot.  All extensions for all objects are referenced in the "DTMFAccessId" table.  The View menu has a Query Builder which you can use to compile a SQL query that searches for a digit string.  It's best to search for both the 10 digit string as well as an abbreviated string as Unity sees them essentially the same and they are usually should be associated with a single subscriber.  Once you find a match, you can use the "ParentObjectId" value associated with the DTMF access ID to look for a matching owner in the "GlobalSubscriber" table.  The ParentObjectId should match the SubscriberObjectId for a subscriber (assuming the DTMF access ID is assigned to a subscriber).  This is the same thing as looking at SQL; however, you are not directly accessing the DB so this is generally considered the safest way to browse and get a feel for where things are.

  • Unity Connection 8.6.2 report error and issues

    Hello,
I found some other hits on this error and tried the workarounds (restarting tomcat, and report data harvester) but am still getting "Unable to find any report data based on parameter(s)" for a certain timeframe on multiple reports when I know activity occurred in that timeframe.
User Phone login report, Outcall Billing Detail Report, others.
    CUC version is 8.6.2.20000-2
Problem is during this timeframe someone dialed into system and changed the transfer extensions to various LD numbers throughout an entire day and the reports aren't showing these outcalls. Call Manager CDR data show the calls being placed from Unity VM ports and the Unity Conversation Manager traces I grabbed for the timeframe show the calls to those numbers to.  I'm just trying to match up with a report and figure out if there is some other log or trace file I can look to determine for sure the caller logged in to the voicemail box and changed the transfer extension on it. (guessed the voicemaill password). The failed log in report doesn't even show the failed login attempt in output from traces below. The transfer extension dest addr was different on the transfers on this same mailbox.  Have locked down the system since but want to get better grip on this with the reports and traces.
I looked over the CUC 8.6.2 SU1 and SU2 release notes and not seeing any resolved bugs for these matters either.
Here are some samples lines from Conversation Manager traces:

    Hello ebergquist,
As advised we could try to run a report before an upgrade was performed to verify if it will pull the information, which in the event it does we would be matching the bug, therefore access the CUC CLI and type the following command:  file get install *
You will be required to have an SFTP available for the file transfer and port 22 open on the sftp client.
Once you receive the files you would need to check system-history.log, below is an example.
    =======================================
Product Name -    Cisco Unity Connection
    Product Version - 8.5.1.12900-7
    Kernel Image -    2.6.9-89.0.20.EL
    =======================================
    02/24/2013 13:35:02 | root: Boot 8.5.1.12900-7 Start
    02/24/2013 16:03:45 | root: Install 8.5.1.12900-7 Success
Once you check the  time stamp and date of the upgrade try to gather a report for a time range before the upgrade was performed, even though they might be overwritten, there still could be a possibility that it succeeds.
If this bug is not the issue then you might want to take into consideration:
    1. Make sure that the service ReportDB is [STARTED] in the output of the command: utils service list.
    2. If you have Digital Networking on your server make sure there is no stalled replication. Go to RTMT (Real Time Monitoring Tool)> Syslogs> Select on the dropdown your server> Doble click on Application logs> CiscoSyslog. You can then do a manual search or sort with the filter option:
    Severity: Error
    App ID: CuReplicator
Hit apply. Below is an example:
    Date: Feb 19 08:01:15
    Machine Name: LAB1111

3.Make sure that replication is working properly in the cluster. You can check them via the following commands:  showcuc cluster status    and   utils dbreplcation runtimestate
For the TransferEx that you state changed to ceros ->  TransferEx=0x00000000=S_OK , this is just a hexadecimal value that is returned stating that the transfer that took place during the call was successful, in this case the actual transfer was to the following destination -> TransferEx destAddr='715551231234', and was during a call to ->calledID='555123' , this does not have to do with the actual change of a transfer number performed by a user.
Those traces won't be enough you will have to additionally set: ConvSub, level 3   and  CDE, level 16 so that you may see output in the traces as the example posted in the previous thread.
Traces would be the path to follow in order to verify the user that changed the transfer rule, as this is as i understand the goal your pursuing.
However if it is of any help, another way to get on hold of the numbers that were updated on the Transfer Rule is to use the User Data Dump tool, this information reflects changes regardless of whether it was done via TUI (Telephone User Interface) or GUI (Graphic User Interface). For more information on the tool go to:
    http://ciscounitytools.com/Applications/CxN/UserDataDump/Help/UserDataDump.htm
Traces are extensive to be reviewed if done manually, however you can do a text search with a tool as Notepad ++ to look for keywords as "NewTransferNumber =" or "CDE,16,Transfer allowed", once you find this you check the call GUIDwhich is the reference number of the call and that exists during the entire length of the call, whether it is while a person is leaving a voicemail or the user is accessing his/her's inbox.  This would speed up your search.
So as explained in the first thread you would then do another text search returning all possible matches with that callGUID.
Now if you get to the very beginning of the call you would see something like:
    Line 13712: 18:58:05.156 |24720,CCIE-1-001,0C9C97BDF5F444F0B535D231C32DDCB4,Arbiter,-1,Incoming Call [callerID='2199' callerName='' calledID='6789' redirectingID='' lastRedirectingID='' reason=1=DirectlastReason=1024=Unknown] port=CCIE-1-001 portsInUse=1 ansPortsFree=1callGuid=0C9C97BDF5F444F0B535D231C32DDCB4
In this example you see my test user callerID='2199'  calling the Pilot number 6789 which is the voicemail button
calledID='6789, and the what type of call is it whether Forward or Direct, when logging to voicemail you are going to see Direct which is going to match the Direct Routing Rules and send the call to the attempt sign in conversation.
The other approach is a rule out method between the Audit traces and the User Data Dump tool.
So let's say you have a baseline document that states all of the Transfer numbers for all users.
If the User Data Dump reflects a different number and the Audit logs do not show any change, starting from the time the baseline was created and the point of time where the number was changed, then you could deduce the change was done via TUI (Telephone User Interface). Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to tell who did the change in this case.
Nevertheless, remember that a user may have for example an Alternate Extension so the change might not necessarily be done from the office phone: "Alternate extensions can make calling Cisco Unity Connection from an alternate device—such as a mobile phone, a home phone, or a phone at another work site—more convenient. When you specify the phone number for an alternative extension, Connection handles all calls from that number in the same way that it handles calls from a primary extension (assuming that ANI or caller ID is passed along to Connection from the phone system). This means that Connection associates the alternate phone number with the user account, and when a call comes from that number, Connection prompts the user to enter a PIN and sign in."

  • DV6-2173cl keyboard does not work in a few occasions (flash, unity, etc)

I've had this problem recently for a while now on my over-a-year-old DV6-2173CL (WA782UA#ABA) laptop where some plugins, like Flash or Unity web player, won't recognize keys that I'm pressing on my keyboard.
The keyboard works fine in all other occasions, like what I'm doing right now typing this up. The only issue with it is that the "/" key on the numberpad is loose but it still works (whenever i decide to use that side of the keyboard, which honestly i don't really).
However, when it comes to, say, a game (which i like to play often on my hp notebook) that's made in Flash or Unity, it won't recognize keyboard actions I do except the arrow keys and spacebar. Many games just use those sometimes, and that's alright, however, many other games uses some keys for specific actions or WASD to move around, and for some reason it just doesn't register. The funny thing, however, is that if there's a text box in a Flash object, like a chat window, I'll be able to actually type in it with no problem. Outside of text boxes, the keyboard just doesn't work (again, aside from arrow keys and space).
The only other instance where the keyboard doesn't seem to fully work is with Google Reader: I use Google Reader's keyboard shortcuts to quickly go through my subscriptions. However, until recently, the keyboard shortcuts just don't work. Interestingly enough, Gmail's keyboard shortcuts still work fine for me.
Another interesting thing I forgot to mention: Keys seem to work at least once at first, but continue to not work immediately after. On Google Reader, you press "j" to go down. I would occasionally try pressing J, and it would work, but trying again or trying any other keyboard shortcut won't work. When I was testing some Unity web player demos on Unity's site, when I was prompted to press M for the menu, it worked. Pressing it again after or other keys wouldn't work (except arrow keys and "esc", don't remember if spacebar was used in that demo or not).
I can't remember how long ago this has been happening, but I'd say at least over a month. I suppose some software I downloaded/installed has caused this conflict, but I'm not sure what and how long ago it was. I haven't tried doing a System Restore yet, being that I don't know when I should restore to and if a time when this wasn't an issue is still on the restore list. I also haven't mentioned about this sooner being that it wasn't particularly a major issue yet since I can still use my laptop for more important stuff, yet it still remains an annoyance.
Other programs, including installed games, appear to still work well with the keyboard, yet for some reason, with those instances mentioned above, they just don't work. I should also mention that Google Chrome is my primary browser, yet it also seems to be an issue across other browsers, including Firefox.
If anyone can come up with any possible solutions, all help would be greatly appreciated.

This is related to the preference :
Search for text when I start typing
With the above preference enabled :
and e10s turned off keyboard shortcut [ correctly is sent to Gmail
however with e10s turned ON keyboard shortcut [ triggers page search instead of getting sent to Gmail
Workaround - with e10s enabled then disable preference
Search for text when I start typing
only then keyboard shortcut [ correctly is sent to Gmail

  • Is there a way to script finding users in Unity and CUCM

I currently get a list once a month of all users who no longer work for our company. As we roll out more VOIP installs the list grows and the old way of doing things needs to change. Currently I search one by one through CUCM and Unity to see if the user is assigned a phone. I would like to be able to pull a list of all users from both Unity and CUCM put that into a spread sheet and then compare my attrition spread sheet to that spread sheet therby speeding up the process of determining which users might be assigned a phone.
Note company hires warehouse workers and they come and go frequently and are not assigned phones but, they along with users with phones are all dumped into a spread sheet so I have no way of know who is who.
    1. I have a spread sheet with names on it both people with and without phones
    2. I would like to download a list so I can compare the two and determine which ones have phones
I am open to other ideas and suggestions to make the laborious task easier.
    Thank You in advance

Seems easy enough on the face of it - unless there's something I'm not getting - are you talking Unity or Unity Connection (folks often just say "Unity" as shorthand for either) - if you're dealing with Unity then you'll have to dance with ODBC which isnt' the end of the world but doing it from "script" is going to be a challange.  If you're talking about Unity Connection you can also use ODBC but you have the option for an HTTP REST search for users by name.
So it's just a matter of searching by name and getting matches back (names are not guranteed to be unique of course, assuming you mean name as first/last/display name and not alias).  It can kick out all matches I suppose and include the extension number.  Unity and Unity connecton _always_ have extension numbers (it's required) so I'm unsure what someone "without a phone" would look like in Unity/Connection - that's a bit odd - how do they check messages?  And without a phone why do they have a voice mail account?

    The story
So...rather than wasting internet bandwith to download a new Ubuntu ISO to test out the new Unity features, I decided to try to make it work under Arch Linux. It took a whole lot longer than I expected to get it even partially working. So, here's my story:
Knowing that Unity isn't in the main repositories, I went the AUR's website and looked for a user created Unity package. That didn't go too well. The Unity package hasn't been updated for 6 months. D'oh! I decided to download the existing PKGBUILD and modify it to work with the Unity 4.xx series. After changing the version number, I tried to "makepkg" it, and was greeted with a message about installing Compiz 0.9.x. I thought it would be an easy install. It was quite the opposite. Compiz's install prefix was set to /opt/unity, but FindCompiz cmake build file expected Compiz to be in /usr, so none of the Compiz packages, except for compiz-core would compile. Then, I tried reinstalling compiz-core, but this time, changing the prefix to /usr. The compiled package ended up being only a few kilobytes big. I guess the mouse wheel was invented for a reason. I looked at the PKGBUILD again, only to find that there was a line at the very bottom that ran "rm -rf ${pkgdir}/usr". That explains a lot! I ended up adopting all the compiz*-git packages and fixing them so they would compile and install.
So, now that Compiz is working (restarted and tested just to make sure I didn't waste my time with something that didn't work), I went on to install the rest of the dependencies listed in the Unity PKGBUILD file. That went relatively well. I was so happy after seeing the progress counter go up after running "makepkg", but at about 8%, gcc spat out an error about an undeclared function (sorry, I forgot what the function was). Natually, I went to Google and searched the name of the function. 0 results! Exactly was I was looking for! I ended up downloading the Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 3 ISO and running "find -type f /usr/lib | xargs objdump -T | grep the_function". The problem lied in the libindicator package. There was a newer version available which contained that function. I have no idea why a package that's only 0.02 versions ahead of the AUR package would contain new functions...
Next! Utouch...ugh...great memories! Not! I was so glad that I had fixed the utouch packages earlier (for touchegg to work). I was too frustrated from compiz and libindicator to try to compile more stuff.
Cmake. Whoever created the CMakeLists.txt file didn't list all the dependencies required. So after running "makepkg" 10 billion times, waiting for "somebodydidntputthisincmake.h not found" errors to appear, I finally got all the dependencies I needed installed...or so I thought. After installing and compiling all these dependencies, the cmake only continues 3% further before encountering another cryptic gcc error. This time, there no error about a file not being found. So not knowing what dependency was missing, I headed over to http://packages.ubuntu.com and downloaded the Unity DEB source to find the dependencies in then debian/control file. After install those few dependencies that I missed, I ran "makepkg" again, hoping that it would finally compile successfully. CMake went a little further--5% further to be exact--before running into another error. It complained about DndSourceDragBegin() having two return types. Sure, enough "./plugins/unityshell/src/ResultViewGrid.h" had the return type as boolean and "/usr/include/Nux-1.0/Nux/InputArea.h" had the return type as void. WTF? How the heck does this even compile under 11.10???
After changing void to bool in "/usr/include/Nux-1.0/Nux/InputArea.h", I ran "makepkg" once again anxiously waiting to the see the line "Finished making: unity 4.10.2". CMake compiled about 35% before running into error about an undeclared gtk function. Nooooooooooooo!!! I wasn't brave enough to install the git version of gtk3, so I created a chroot, installed the base packages, and installed all of those dependencies fairly quickly (it gets a lot easier after doing it so many times).
Moving on to gtk3. After cloning the ~200MB git repository, autotools spits out an error about cairo-gl missing. So, I proceeded to install the cairo-gl-git package, which failed to compile (it compiled successfully outside of the chroot...). GREAT. So, Unity fails to compile because GTK version is too old, and GTK failed to compile because cairo-gl is missing, and cairo-gl fails to compile because I'm in a chroot. GAHHH!!! While thinking about throwing the computer out of the window, I searched the AUR for other GTK3 packages. I just happened to find a package named "GTK3-UBUNTU"! That package was still at version 3.0, but it was pretty easy to get the patches and source code for 3.1 from the Ubuntu GTK source package.
So, FINALLY, Unity compiles. I was so darn happy, I didn't even care if it ran or not. I logged out and logged back into the GNOME 3 fallback mode, and entered the chroot. After running "xhost +SI:localuser:chenxiaolong" to run X11 apps in the chroot, I crossed my fingers and ran "DISPLAY=:0.0 unity --replace". It failed with python 3 complaining about missing modules. That's okay, since the Unity launch script is written in python 2. I changed the shebang line in "/usr/bin/unity" to point to python 2 and ran "DISPLAY=:0.0 unity --replace". It didn't necessarily fail, but it didn't succeed either. It didn't print out any error messages. Weird... I thought I'd try enabling Unity from the compiz settings manager then. I ran "DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz --replace" and "DISPLAY=:0.0 ccsm" and enabled the Unity plugin. Unity runs! Although nothing shows on the screen, it runs! It shows up in the process list! Woohoo!
And that's about how far I got. There were quite a few Vala errors during the compiling process (I forgot which package it was), which is probably why Unity won't appear. I'll try again later with the vala-devel or vala-git package and hopefully Unity will work then. Here are screenshots of what I've gotten working so far:

By then way, I love the simplicity of pacman and the AUR. I can't imagine how long this would have taken with other package managers.

City-busz: I'm getting a ton of Vala errors when I compile libunity (AUR version) with vala or vala-devel. libunity fails to compile with vala-git. I'll try your packages in a virtual machine and see how they work on 64 bit.
In the meantime, Unity still fails to show up: http://i.imgur.com/btPwo.png I'll try out your PKGBUILDS and see how that works. I'm glad there are people who want to port Unity to Arch Linux
EDIT: City-busz: Just to let you know, Unity will fail to compile at around 45% with GTK 3.0. Here's my source packaage for Ubuntu's GTK 3.1: http://ubuntuone.com/p/1EzX/ It contains all of the patches in the Ubuntu source package. I'm not sure if all the patches are needed, but GTK compiles fine with all of them.
EDIT2: Right now, I'm trying to compile Vala 0.10.4, then version used in Ubuntu 11.10. Hopefully that will eliminate some of the Vala errors.
EDIT3: Vala 0.10 is too old. 0.12 and 0.14 are also in the Ubuntu repository. Trying those...
EDIT4: 0.14 is actually 0.13.1. Gah... Vala takes longer to compile under VirtualBox than GTK3...
EDIT5: Okay...so VirtualBox "helpfully" became slow enough that I could read the error messages. The Vala error messages aren't actually error messages, but rather warnings about unused methods. I wonder what prevents Unity from running then...

  • Weird error message in Unity Connection - Email Notifications

I went to a user, notifications, email, and put in the email address and enabled it. I click save and get this message "The specified SMTP address cannot be in the VMS domain." I searched and didn't see anything here on the forums about it and googled it and didn't find anything either. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chad,
Is the domain name of the email address you are specifying the same as the domain name that the server is using? For this to work, the email address should be in a different domain than the one that the Unity Connection server is in.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Michael.
