In shuffle mode, cant go to menu

I have a click wheel ipod, not the video one though. I just purchased it about 4 days ago. And, last night, I was listening to it in shuffle mode, and decided I wanted to listen to a certain artist.. I turned off "hold" and hit "menu". Nothing happened, I hit it again, same thing, and kept trying... no response. I couldnt get to the menu.
I thought, "wonder if the light will work", so I held down "menu" and sure enough, the light turned on. Wierd. So, I turned the "hold" on and off several times to see if I could go to menu, and still nothing happened. So, right now, I have my 20GB Ipod stuck in shuffle mode and cant access the menu.
Granted, this IS a refurbished Ipod. Can anyone help? or will I have to return it?

Ah, thanks Bryan... well, I can probably get acess to USB then if the mini USB is the same. I'd rather reset it when I can put music on it :P, instead of doing it and not being able to listen to anything at all...
And if resetting does it work, pretty much S.O.L, right?

  • Cant play in shuffle mode

I have my shuffle for just about a year, all of a sudden I cant get it to play in the shuffle mode . The songs only play in order and if i turn it off it starts from the begginning.. ANY ONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM, PHONE SUPPORT WONT HELP BECAUSE OVER A YEAR...GEEZE JUST BY DAYS TOO...

There's probably no help for your switch problem. It could be somre foreign object, of course, and you could try blasts of compressed air or suction, but don't expect much from that. The switch might simply have worn out.
As for the other problem, stop turning it off. Just Pause it when you're done; it goes into a powersaver mode pretty quickly after that and uses very little (essentially none, for all practical purposes) battery power while in that. You'll have to press Play once to wake it up, then again to make it play again, but it will pick up where you left off — all else being equal.

  • How to keep tracks together in shuffle mode?

When playing in shuffle mode you can't hear tracks in line together while they should be, e.g. in conceptalbums.
Is there a way to overcome this?
(You can do it with complete albums when downloading in the Library, but what can you do when the tracks are already in the Library?)

The second tab is calles 'Info' as well. Down under you have the possibilty to mark Part of a collection (Deel van verzameling). It should do the trick but it doesn't. I once tried, but I haven't found out what it does.
In English, that is named as "Part of a compilation" and Google Translates that as "Deel van een compilatie". As far as iTunes is concerned, this means that the album has songs by different artists, albums such as the "Now X" series. It is how iTunes keeps a Various Artists album together.

I want to shuffle works, not tracks..
Ah! I see what you want now!
Two possibilities that I can think of (number 2 is the better one):
Create a Playlist for each "work", by simply adding all the songs from one work to one Playlist and all songs from the next work to another Playlist and so on. Then, if you want to play one complete work, followed by another complete work, you could simply create a further Playlist and add each "work Playlist" you want to this new Playlist. To make the works random, all you could do is choose for yourself as you are adding them. You would need to play this new Playlist in order, not shuffle.
If you originally imported this music from a CD, you could import from the CD again. But this time, combine the tracks that make up one work, as one track. iTunes names this as "Join CD Tracks" (or CD-tracks samenvoegen in the Dutch iTunes).
In the screenshot above, I have selected tracks one, two and three and then used the options menu to find Join CD Tracks. This third option will not be visible until you select two or more adjacent tracks, as shown above.
In the screenshot below, I have joined tracks one, two and three as one "work". Then joined tracks four, five and six as a separate work. Finally, I've joined tracks seven through twelve as a third work.
Notice in the screenshot that the Options menu says "Unjoin CD Tracks". That is because the highlighted ones (7-12) are currently joined.
And here it is in Dutch:
With this second method, a work (of several tracks) will always be played as one track (or song). You can then simply add all the individual works to one Playlist, and play the Playlist in Shuffle Songs mode. That way, each work would be played in full, followed, at random, by another work.)
And if you really need to - import the CD this second time with a slightly different album name, so that you then have two copies. One, where each song (or track) is the individual song on the album and the second where each "song" is a work.
Now, lets hope I can get my iTunes back into "English" English, as my Dutch is not too good, even though I'm just the other side of the North Sea from you!

  • Browsing songs in shuffle mode on classic ipod

i primarily use my ipod as a car stereo in shuffle mode. is there any setting or application that i can put on that will allow me to jump straight to the current song that is playing when i press menu rather than the song i first selected?
for example a song by a certain artist comes up on random but i want to hear a song that i know is nearby in the list and i dont want to have to scroll through thousands of songs to get there.
    cheers

I am confused by your post. By skipping songs, do you mean that the playlist ends without those songs playing at all? Or are you saying that all of the songs do eventually play but they are skipped and played in a 'random' order? That, by definition is shuffling, hence my confusion.
I don't mean to be flippant. Just seeking clarification.

  • Skips from playlist to shuffle mode?

I don't know whats going on. I'll be playing a playlist and the next thing I know I hear hear this weird little noise and then the nano goes into shuffle mode? I've had the nano for about to 2 or 3 months did it a few time in the begining but now it's doing it more. Does anyone know whats going on? Thanks.

I sounds like either your "shake" feature or your "shuffle" feature is turned on. I had a similar problem and couldn't turn off my "shake" feature. Someone else on this board helped me fix it. Make sure both of these settings are turned to "off":
    main menu ---> settings ---> shuffle=off
    AND
    main menu ---> settings ---> playback ---> shake=off

  • Shortcut for shuffle mode?

After I have started playing an album or a playlist, is there a quick shortcut to put your Ipod into shuffle mode without having to go back to the main menu and select 'Settings'-'Shuffle' and select 'Songs'? Just thought it would be quick and slick.

Unfortunately, there is not. Apple does have the shuffle songs option on the main menu, but as you probably know, that shuffles everything.
To go back to the main menu quickly, you can hold down "Menu" for a couple of seconds, and then go right to settings.
iPods do have a main menu setting to put more options on the main menu, but you cannot put actual settings (like shuffle) on the main menu.
    Tell Apple you'd like this...

  • About Shuffle mode when playing

The shuffle mode *****! How FUNNY it is when you can shuffle by grouping in iTunes but cannot in iPod mini? This gives me a lot unconvienents! Please fix.
Reason: Since I'm a listener of classic musics, when a single composition consists of more than 1 movement or chapter in the CD, how chould I play them together? Only by using "Shuffle by Groupings" function. However the function really disappoints me.
      Windows XP

suffle mode is available in ipod mini too :
rom your ipod main menu screen choose
settings>shuffle>(it's set "off") adjust it to
    shuffle songs or albums
I mean the shuffle mode has no option for suffling by groupings but albums only.

  • Sequential songs in Shuffle mode?

I have several songs with intros on another track, is there a way I can make them play in sequence as one track when in Shuffle mode?

Same problem here to an extent. Some info:
    First iteration iPod shuffle 3G
    iPod firmware 1.1
    iTunes 9.0.3 on Windows XP
I started out with one big playlist like I used to use on my previous shuffle, this played in order.
I loaded multiple (many, actually) playlists and also added music by artist, this seemed to negate the playlists that were on there. The playlist menu only says "All Songs" now. Songs don't play in order even with the switch in the "in order" position. Mayhem in other words.
So I removed everything that wasn't a playlist, and now I'm back to having playlists again and songs do play in order.
Logic seems to say that if you add music that isn't part of a playlist, it does 2 things:
    1. You can't scroll through playlists anymore because they don't show up in the menu (it just says "All Songs").
    2. Songs don't play in order.
Not a super duper good start with this one, maybe it will get fixed at some point though... Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Despite the name "shuffle", I do want to listen to songs in order as they show up on albums.

  • Shuffle mode stuck in displaying loaded CD

    Hello;
I have been successfully using iTunes and have been using it on 3 mac machines so far but have recently had a problem I cannot solve when loading a disc in, or from the library.
Last week I was having a difficult time importing a song from a CD into a separate playlist I had created . I may have changed a setting to accomplish this that precipitated the next problem . A few days later there was no problem loading this song to the playlist. Checking all iTunes settings and preferences to fix this issue have not worked yet . When I click on a playlist and burn a CD the album songs appear in the window in numerical song order but are shuffled in the window after the disc is burned . Shuffle is shut off in the small box and in the toolbar menu command . The disc that is burned plays in the correct order though when put in a boombox or stereo but is displayed in shuffled song order when loaded in the Mac.
Any help certainly appreciated . I've had no problem with the shuffle mode all these years until now . Restarting the pc makes no change .

Just noticed the album song playlists are toggling back and forth between songs in the playlist sorted alphabetically from A-Z and Z-A ascending descending . Not regular shuffle mode as I first thought.
I see if you click on the various column headings in iTunes for each field that they also toggle back and forth . Possibly I clicked on one of these column headings that precipitated the problem I was having

  • Deleting songs/files while in shuffle mode

hello.i have an 80gb ipod classic.i would like to know how to listen to songs in shuffle mode without playing the language files i have in shuffle mode.i know i can just un check them in my library but, there are thousands of them and would take quite awhile to uncheck them so,is there any way to uncheck them more quickly or any other way.i would appreciate any help.thanks

    Hello joecomputer,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
One option is to enable the "Skip When Shuffling" option for each of these tracks in iTunes from under the Options tab of the *Get Info* window. Just highlight every track in your iTunes library by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking each track you wish to edit. When you have all of them selected, right->click on any one of them and choose *Get Info* from the pop up menu.
Or if the tracks are in sequence, simply click the first track in the sequence to highlight it, and then hold down the Shift key and click the last one in the sequence to highlight the first and last track and everything in between.
Then sync the updated changes to your iPod once they have been made. This option will tell your iPod to skip these tracks when you have it in Shuffle.

  • Songs skip on shuffle mode

My songs are skiping when in shuffle mode selected from the main menu of the ipod classic. Once i get to the 20th or so song in list (e.g 20/1190) it begins to skip by itself and will not allow me to play the current song and stop it. Please help!
    Thanks

Fixed it now. Just had to restore ipod via computer and itunes.

  • My iPod touch is stuck on one song in my play list when in the shuffle mode.  How do I fix this to shuffle through all the songs in that playlist?

My iPod touch is stuck on one song in my play list when in the shuffle mode.  How do I fix this to shuffle through all the songs in that playlist?

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

  • Songs don't show up in Shuffle Mode

Hi! When I select 'Shuffle Songs' from the main menu not all of the songs show up. For instance, I have 540 songs and the top says 530 when playing.
If I manually go to Music->Songs and just pick a song all of them are there.
I have tried resetting the iPod and also reconnecting to iTunes and ejecting from it.
    Can someone help me?
      Windows XP

I figured it out. It was part of what the person above suggested. I did unselect the Skip with Shuffling option, but it didn't stay unselected once disconnected from iTunes. What I had to do was unselect the songs, then play them through iTunes to make the deselection stick.
    Thanks to all that replied.

have an Ipod Touch and when I activate the shuffle mode it keeps replaying the same song.  How do I fix this problem?

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?
By the way, this is the iPod Shuffle forum.  Since you have an iPod Touch, you should have posted this in the iPod Touch forum.

  • Creative ZEN Stone Shuffle Mode?

%Creative ZEN Stone > Shuffle Mode? I recently bought a Creative ZEN Stone 2GB (2nd generation) MP3 Player. I created one folder with random music I like to listen to while making sports which I'd like to play in Shuffle mode and some other folders containing some complete albums, ordered with numbers in front of the file names. If I switch to the "sports" folder an choose Shuffle mode, the player seems to shuffle all the files on the Player. Of course I'd like it to shuffle only the files contained in the "sports" folder, listening to ambient music during sports doesn't motivate me too much you know. And if I want to play the "ambient"-folder in Shuffle mode, I don't want to listen to power metal at all.
Did I miss something or is the Player unable to shuffle one single folder? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you choose Shuffle mode, it shuffles all the files on the Player, regardless of any folders.
Is there any (probably 3rd-party) firmware out there with which I can make my Creative ZEN Stone 2GB (2nd generation) shuffle only one single folder?
Thank you in advance for you answers.

When you say second generation, do you mean zen stone with speaker or/and screen
On the zen stone plus with speaker ( and screen) you can shuffle just the contents of a folder without playing anything from another folder b y doing this:
Music > select a folder select play mode, select shuffle folder, job done.
