In shuffle mode next song begins before previous song has ended.

Next song begins playing before previous song has ended.

I checked them all. The last playlist that had this issue only had 24 songs so it wasn't hard to look at each individually. That's definitely not the issue.
I also had that particular playlist play all the way through in shuffle mode with no issue both before and since the last occurrence. It's the same case with shuffling many other playlists of mine both new and old (I guess that wasn't clear enough in my original post). The inconsistency of this issue is what has had me particularly vexed and why I figured it was a bug.
Again, thanks for your suggestion.

  • In shuffle mode, some songs never get played, why?

I have most of my music in 1 playlist (about 2500 songs) which I listen to all the time, always in shuffle mode. I became aware that my ipod was never playing some songs, yet others were recurring quite frequently. When I checked the playcount, it showed the highest count at 46, yet it also showed that many tracks that had been in the playlist just as long, have never been played. Why is this? Is my ipod secretly asserting it's own taste in music? Does shuffle mode favour songs with a higher playcount? Is there a way to stop this happening? Has anybody else experienced this? Suggestions gratefully received.

I've heard this excuse before, that what we think is random really isn't, but when certain trends occur enough times, its pretty clear that there is some kind of algorithm or something in the coding that affects the shuffle.
I know random means random, but there are too many "random" coincidences and apparent patterns that occur to raise doubt that it truly is as random as Apple claims.
One such example, is that when using the Shuffle Songs feature (that shuffles all tracks on the iPod) I had 2-3 tracks from the same album (an album I had never even listened to yet) showing up within the first 40 tracks five times in a row. Numerous other songs showed up in at least 3 of the 5 "trials." Out of 8,000 songs.
On a playlist (of 300 or less songs is all I have tried), if you have multiple songs off the same album, you are far more likely to hear at least one other song off a given album within about 10 songs then you are to not hear a song off the same album. A specific example of this is on a playlist of 105 songs I have, there are 3 songs off one album, however nearly every time 2 of the songs will play within a 10 track range, and nearly as often all 3 songs will play within the same 20 track range.
I know random isn't perfectly spaced songs, but when certain things happen often enough, the odds of it become so low that even the "true random" explanation doesn't cover it.

  • In shuffle mode, same song keeps repeating

Since updating to firmware 1.1.4, everytime I play the iPod in shuffle mode, it repeats the same song over and over. I have to forward to the next song. I don't remember this happening prior to updating. Is anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks!

While playing the song, turn your phone to portrait(that's upright) and tap the cover art(or whatever may be there). A new set of controls will appear below the existing controls(back, track info, album info). Of the new controls, make sure the control on the far left is not blue. If it is, tap until it goes white. That 'loop' represents track repeat.

  • Music no longer shuffles to next song

Has anyone experienced isues where shuffle no longer works and it just plays the same song over and over again.
Seem to have started shortly after I upgraded to versions 2.2.1

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Make sure that you don't have 'loop this track' selected (as it is in the image below - blue loop with a 1):
The plain blue loop will loop whole album or playlist.

  • Playing songs after end of previous song when waiting some minutes

When I played a song and don't play straight away another song within a minute or 2, the player ópens at thebeginning of the next song I have selected, but don't start playing. It looks like that it is froozen. I have to close Itunes and start-up again to solve the problem. If I select songs direct after the previous song has ended, then there is no problem. Does anyone know a solution to this problem??
    Many thanks for your assistance

Have you tried letting it sit for a while and see if it finally starts the next song after a LONNNGGGGG delay?
I recall someone else having a problem like this some time ago and the issue was anti-virus software. Apparently it was monitoring the iTunes folder. When the song ended, iTunes increments the play count one and updates the date and time of the last play. Well when it would go to update the database file in the iTunes folder the anti-virus software would kick in and slow the process down from being almost instant to taking a couple minutes. After a couple minute delay the next song would start.
So the solution ended being to tell the anti-virus software to EXCLUDE the iTunes folder from monitoring.

  • Whatever song is playing, it will repeat instead of going to the next song, whether is's in shuffle mode or from a playlist

It sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled. See page 21 of your iPod's User Guide for instructions on turning it off.

my ipod touch is repeating each song once before it goes on to the next song while it is on shuffle. No it is NOT on repeat. Anyone know how to fix this?

If you do not have dupicate songs on the iPod then:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Longer songs stopping before finishing, next song playing in the remaining time of the previous song?

Hello apple communities, it's been a while.
So, problem, with the music app (or the particular albums/artists/songs) this time.
Longer songs are stopping before the end of the songs, it's almost like it skips, but the wierd part is this:
In the remaining time for that song, the next song starts playing.
    Make sense?
    No?
    Well, here's an example.
The song deadman goes for 12.04, 12 minutes and 4 seconds.
The song after that, change goes for 10.47, 10 minutes and 47 seconds.
What happens is deadman will play for about 3 minutes, then skip to change, however, the ipod still says it is playing deadman, which has about 9 minutes left.
It is only the one artist it is doing this with as well. Both albums. However, they play fine on itunes, on the CD's, on the Ps3 and my mp3.
I have tried deleting them and re-adding them to my ipod but it doesn't fix it.
The fact that is only one artist, out of 38 or so, makes me think it's the files, but if they play fine everywhere else, it makes me think something has gone wrong in the syncing process, but there have been no error pop-ups.
My ipod is a 4th generation ipod touch, currently Version 6.1.3.
    Itunes is version 10.7.0.21.
    Thank you for your help.

  • How do I stop a new song from starting before the previous one quite ends?

When listening on my PC, sometimes while on shuffle, before one song ends the next one begins.  How can I remedy this?

Check to see if "Crossfade songs" has been checked in your Playback preferences in iTunes. Here's a screenshot showing where to find it:
If it is checked, try unchecking it and click OK.

  • My ipodmy ipod shuffle 4th gen does not play whole songs, only parts then goes on to next song

My recently bought ipod shuffle 4th gen does not play whole songs synced to it, only the beginning then goes on to the next song.  What have I done wrong?

I changed the iPod to Disk mode and it just blinks orange while it is connected to the PC. It says that it is synched on the PC screen but I thought the blinking orange light means that it isn't. I took it back out of disk mode. The original problem still exists...when I turn it on, the green light stays lit for 5 seconds then there's no light at all....when I press play the lights alternate orange and green indicating no music is loaded which is wrong since it shows all my songs that are loaded when it is connected to my PC. What a mess.

  • Shuffle 4th gen cuts some songs off and goes to next song.

Shuffle 4th generation will cut some songs off and then starts next song.
Some play almost to the end and some will move on only about half way through the tune.
Seems to move on at about the same spot in the song each time.
I have removed the songs and retranfered them in itunes - that does not help.
It does this in both "shuffle" and play in order modes.
Any idea on how to fix this ?

  • Weighted/Prioritize Songs in Playlists for Shuffle Mode

Either automatically or by allowing us to assign values to songs within playlists indicating how often we want to hear the particular song or how many times we want the song to be replayed before it is removed from the shuffle queue for a user specified amount of time.
It doesn't have to be that complicated. It would be nice to have "Play this song less often" and "Play this song more often" options.
I would really like to see what other users have to think about this.

Smart Shuffle- power hour feature (play each song for a desired amount of time from a certain start point of the song) Example: Play my Top 40 playlist starting 1 minute into the song, only play the song for 2 minutes before crossfading to the next song. Example 2: Using the lyrics that are already built into Spotify: Play a song 30 seconds before the first chorus starts, Play the song for 1 minute then skip to the next song and do the same thing. This is a powerful feature and could be used as a virtual DJ like for clubs and parties or at a BBQ. Some people don't want to listen to a full 5minute song and are just happy with hearing 2 minutes of the 5 minute song.  - allow a toggle to shuffle a playlist but with priorities like: new songs added to the playlist, most played and etc. Some people have 500+ song playlists but when shuffling they would love to hear their newly added songs more often than a song they added 2 years ago. Sure they could make a new playlist with their new songs but what if they like hearing an old song once in a while to spice things up a bit.
