In some words I need to find a regular letter followed (or preceded) by italic letter.
It is possible with grep or a script?
This will work for any for style variation that is exatly “Italic”. So it will work with Minion Italic or Times Italic, but not Minion Semibold Italic or Helvetica Oblique.
Two passes with GREP will do it. First do this…
This will add “XXX” to the beginning of any letter in italics.
Then do this…
This will select any letter imediately preceeding “XXX” as well as the three Xs regardless of formatting. You can then either change the letter or the formatting or both.

Old Outlook files separated from current -- need to find some old saved emails
I had a computer issue and the computer guy who fixed it separated my old files into a folder he called "Windows Old" on my desktop. I can find all my old files there except I can't open any Outlook files. There's an email I saved
from Nov 2006 that I need to find and open somewhere within this folder.
I've found some outlook files in that folder, but it says I can open them only with Outlook.... but when I try to open them from within the Outlook menu, I can't find the files. And copying and pasting the location doesn't help. Please help!
Below is a copy-and-past of where I've found my outlook data file from that pariod

Yahoo's servers are notoriously unreliable. Use the "Yahoo" account type when setting it up. If it doesn't work, and you are positive the credentials are correct, wait a while and try again.
While you're waiting, set up a free gmail or iCloud email account. -

Need some words of wisdom (and clarity) from the community
Let me start off by saying that I've built my own rig before, but it's been several years since my last build. Finally had the green to retire 'Frankenstein' and build a new rig. I did quite a bit of research, read spec sheets, and finally came up with the following rig:

So, after building was done and installing Windows for the first time, all seemed to go OK. Then, I started getting BSOD issues. Several times, the BSOD corrupted my Windows install and I had to re-install the OS. After almost a week of troubleshooting, I realized that the issue was with my memory.
As stated above, I bought 2 kits of the GSkill memory with the intent of having 8GB of memory on my system (overkill, I know). I ran Memtest86 (V4) on the memory and found that if I ran the individual sticks, then there was no issues. Adding a 2nd stick, in either memory slots, I would get a random memory error after 8-12 hrs of running memtest, but only ONE error. If I went up to 3 sticks or more, the pages of errors would start almost from the beginning of the first pass on Memtest. During my testing, I noticed that BIOS was reading the memory speed correctly (1333), but the timings were 9-9-9-24 (the memory's actual timings are 8-8-8-21). I tweaked the memory timings, but that didn't seem to help.
I have been running stable with only 2 modules in my rig since the build (in March), but I wanted to add the other 2 modules. After reading more, and the sticky at the top of this forum regarding memory, I am wondering if I wasted money on the 2nd set of memory I bought. Also, I wanted to seek the wisdom of the group to see if I have set my memory speed/timings correctly to remain stable. I have not had any errors from windows, but my system randomly 'beeps' while the system is on. According to my reading of Award BIOS, this means that I'm getting a random memory error.

I need to find and upload a hidden file for an app service issue
I need to locate a hidden file, filename.plist which is on a networked drive, and upload it to the company;s wed=biste for the to support the app. Obviously 'filename' is just a word. there is a long and complex filename.
Finder spins its wheels uselessly when I ask it to search. The action gear thingy has no useful options to see hidden files that I can see. And the upload part of the website, while it lets me enter the filename in the search box, just spins uselessly, too.
The file is held on a networked freestanding drive. That isn't of itself, any real problem. I just need to find it and upload it so I can get support. I don;t mind using some utility to grab a copy of it somehow, and uploading that! BUT I am not hugely technical, so I need to be spoon fed.You can use Terminal to find the file you are looking for.
Let's say your network drive is named Net_Drive
find /Volumes/Net_Drive -name filename.plist
if you know the exact file name or
find /Volumes/Net_Drive -name *.plist
to search for all file names ending with .plist -
Need to find pro tax prep software compatible w/Macs. My software maker, Drake, does not have Mac version. I've checked Pro-Series (no) and maybe 1 other. I don't want to spend Lacert kind of $$ (neither do the majority of longtime Lacert users apparently). Obviously, no Turbo Tax, Tax Cut or any other commercial, deduction & crdit missing commercial software. They would ned to have the ability to 1) convert a few years of Drake to their program, 2) Covert files created on PC to files that 10 OS could use. Also, would like them to have reasonable PPR program, free efile, free unlimited states, capable of 1040, 1065, 1120, & (S), 1041, 990. Built in tax knowledge base. I'd be eternally indebted to you if you found sometghing as intuitive and value oriented as Drake but for OS 10. BEGINNING TO THINK APPLE bends over backwords for artistic tools but not so much business tools. Too bad, I've had a few tax returns that have bordered on art.
I will likely need to add Parallels & Windows 7 OS, preferably 64-bit to this Macbook Air. If so, I do not think I have sufficient memory or storage so would like to download & install onto NFTS (sp?) formatted 1TB HD. I do not know if hard drives, USB hubs, Optical drives etc. that work w/ Windows (as long as you choose correctly btwn SATA & IDE) will work on MacBook Air. Help greatly appreciated. So if you happen to know any pro tax prep software ompatible w/ OS 10 and/or, you could give me some info on what characteristics peripherals would need to have to use on MacBook (I'm hoping that most are inrterchanheable but my hoping ain't gonna make it so. OR if you know any great deals on Parallel-I saw some promos but not from reliable places. If I could find on Bradsdeals or Coupon Cabin I'd feel safe. I've seen an Apple ad for a bundle of software w/ some other decent parts (Snagit) . I'd love to find a promo that applies to the bundle and download all 9programs for $9.99 (right). Too many questions, sorry for any protocol violations. As you might have noticed, a keyboard is high on my agenda- I hate laptop keyboards though Apple's seems better than most. I also hate using scroll pads. Much rather have mouse. Real challenge is to find Bluetooth OS 10 keybrd that has numeric keypad. I wonder if the financial dept. @ apple uses keyboards w/ no numeric keypad, saw one that started at $99. I spent all the $$ I have on a MacBook, none leftover for overpriced peripherals, esp. w/ 2 kidfs going off to college in Sept.

Bill SBill I've also run into a very similar problem, I own many Macs but I've had a PC for Tax Stuff. My PC broke and I refused to buy another one so I began to search for an alternative. Window's Emulators have given me so much trouble with my Tax Software.
However, I've since found out that Intuit has a cloud based tax solution that works with a MAC because it's all done online. Which means you'll need a reliable internet connection whenever you want to prepare a client's return.
It's suppose to support all of the major returns (1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120S and 990)
I've yet to use this solution, but it's the best thing that I've been able to find so far. This is what I'll be using this upcoming Tax Season.

Hello,
I am having some trouble with using shape layers and paths to create a solid, flat 'hair' effect in a cartoon animation.
I have used a semicircle shape layer as the hair on the head itself and then a path with a stroke of the same width as the semi circle to be the long part of the hair.
Unfortunately when I move/rotate the bottom point in the path it causes gaps to appear further up where the stroke is rotating around the point at which the stroke is supposed to "connect" to the semi circle.
I have included a couple of screenshots of me rotating the hair opposite ways so you can see.

I need to find out if there is a way to lock the top point in place where it joins the semi circle blond hair which will stop this part from moving at all, even rotating around the point.
But the bottom needs to move freely and obviously the part between the two points will move fairly naturally.
If you can imagine how a girl with long hair has her hair attached to her head, it does not move at all, but the bottom moves freely. It needs to be like this.
If you can provide any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

I no longer have access to system folders that allow me to remove old or incorrect PAGES templates. Need to find out how to do that. The only way I can do it now is to blank the template and replace the unwanted template with a blank. It was previously possible to go to MY TEMPLATES and remove the unwanted templates. I don't if this issue is before or since installation of 10.8 (a nightmare in my case, which led to significant failure issues). And because I haven't tried to remove templates since finally managing to install 10.8 (now at 10.8.4), I don't know if this is typical of the newer OS or a problem. I've been a Mac user for more than 25 years, but I think I'm nearing the end of the road. By the way, I've never needed to do this before because the manuals always offered an answer... they don't seem to do that anymore. In any case, I don't know how this works... I'd prefer an email reply if that's possible. But that would probably be too easy, and I don't know how to get a reply.
Thanks, I appreciate the help. I think this is one of the problems Apple is creating by changing the OS so often. I had fomer colleagues at [a major aerospace contractor] who told me that so many original files were ultimately lost because of the deadly change in the "Save As" operation that they are now afraid of every OS update. Apple has badly damaged their support base with that very prominent company (they won't update now until they've fully examined and understand changes in the pre-conditioned nature of OS computer functions), and they are a whole lot less enthaled with Mac-related equipment/software. Can't blame them, I too used orginal files that way (as easy-to-use templates), and lost some important files before I realized what was happening (to late to revert). Companies should not have to retrain employees each time an OS gets an update, it's can be very expensive several different ways. They learned a painful lesson with that one. And because I'm now retired and don't use multiple devices, I need iCloud like I need a hole in the head... but I'm told there's no way to keep Apple out of my computer. Fortunately, because of major problems when initially installing Mountain Lion, one hold-over of the hardware/software damage I experienced was that iCloud can no longer access my computer even though everything else is working fine again. That was the only "good luck" I had as a result of that expensive nightmare.

The name of my hard drive has changed on strange letters or some words chosen by random.
I have iMac (2011) with OS X Lion 10.7.4, and I noticed that name of my hard drive has been changing on strange letters or some words chosen by random. It's quite strange. I have other apple computers and I have never experienced such things. I can't find any logical explanation of this "activity". Sometimes it happens after sleeping mode, sometimes there is no activity from my side or from OS. How to fix it? What should I do?
Update: I don't have any cats or other animals that can walk on my keyboard. This is definitely not because of "accidentally pressed an icon of my HD and then pressed some keys" issue.
