In spite of having firefox set to remember usernames and passwords it won't, even if i use a master password, still doesn't work. Is this a bug, i'm on 8-0-1

I have turned off and on the password setting,, still doesn't help

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:
*Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
*Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

  • Firefox is not remembering usernames and passwords

    Hi
i've just installed Firefox 15.0 (windows xp) and it no longer remembers usernames and passwords on at least 3 websites where previously it would when i have "remember me" ticked. For example, twitter.
I have checked Tools/Options and I have Accept Cookies from Sites ticked with no exceptions
    please help

After a few experiments i have noticed that i had somehow accidentally checked "Always use private browsing mode" so there is no issue here and it can be closed. thanks ....

  • Updated my firefox to 3.6.4 and now it won't even open?

I just updated my firefox to firefox new version which i think is 3.6.4 on friday and now when i open that as an application, it won't just open...
Strange enough - no error message, no pop up... It just jumps couple of times in the dock and then doesnt' open...
Please help? is there a way to just use the older version?
I am new to mac family

I just upgraded to 3.6.6, which is working fine for me. From your hard drive, in applications, you might want to drag the Firefox icon to your trash, then empty the trash. Of course quit the application first if it happens to be working for some reason. Then download Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.6.6&os=osx&lang= en-US , install it, and see if it now works. Sometimes things get a bit screwy on download/updates, so a fresh install can often fix the issue.
If that doesn't work, you can do the same steps above, and download the prior release 3.6.4 from http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.6.4&os=osx&lang= en-US

  • Firefox 8 and the "Warn when closing...multiple tabs" preference check box still doesn't work?

I'm aware that I can go into the about:config screen and toggle a couple of settings but the real question is "Why is this still a problem since version 4?" Why bother to have Preferences at all, if the given solution is always to tweak the config?

This hint was posted on a similar link that works for me. Here is what to do:
In option -> privacy -> choose "use custom history setting" and choose your preference for history and cookie setting. and then click "OK'.
Then you will get the warning when closing multiple tabs.
It doesn't seem to be related but it does affect the operation of the other part of the software that issues the warning.

  • When closing Firefox, after reopening it, my tabs are gone, even though I have Firefox set to remember session.

When closing Firefox, after reopening it, my tabs are gone, even though I have Firefox set to remember session. However, after several hours and opening and closings of Firefox, it will open tabs from the old session, for no apparent reason.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Browsing History
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Firefox won't remember username and password on a certain site. I have the option enabled to remember passwords, and the site is not listed in the exceptions. On my home computer, Firefox DOES remember the password for this specific site. Any suggestions?

This happens on my updated Firefox 4.0 and on the previous version from which I updated.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
    * Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode Firefox won't fill names and passwords automatically.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • On any page that I have to log in Firefox stops responding and has to shut down. I've tried resetting it and it still doesn't work.

I've been having this problem for a while now and I can't seem to fix it. Any time I log into any page, Firefox says not responding and I have to restart it. I have to run all of firefox in safe mode if I log out of my email or facebook. I've tried resetting FF and it still doesn't work.

''' "I have to run all of firefox in safe mode if I log out of my email or facebook. " '''
Please explain what you mean by '''all of firefox'''. You're either running in the Firefox SafeMode or you're not. There's no "all" or partial SafeMode.

  • I have a mac 10.6 system when using firefox, I can no longer open attachments or downloads. I deleted firefox and reinstalled and it still doesn't work.

When using firefox, I can no longer open attachments, pdf or downloads. A new window will open and it is blank. The only way to open an attachment or pdf is to shut down firefox and use safari. Everything works with safari so I can't understand what went wrong with firefox. I even download adobe reader thinking that would help. I then deleted my original firefox and re downloaded firefox again. It still doesn't work.
I am using a 10.6 operating system on my Mac.

Try to disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.
*Firefox > Preferences > Applications > Adobe PDF document : Use Adobe Reader
PDF files may also be found under another entry like Portable document.

Lately I have been getting a rectangular screen titled Login Setting, with my Username and Password and asking me to Login.  This screen shows up on opening the computer and has never been seen before the last month or so.  It has one box titled Login Credentials with a username and password field and a second box titled Login Status at the bottom where it says "Profile not found" in red.   I've never seen this before and ignoring it does not effect any operations.   Is this legitimate or some kind of identity fishing?

    Hello,
Have you done the recent Security updates?
Is this from Sleep or on bootup?
Timing is about right for the FlashBack attack.

Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

  • How to know if firefox is using a master password from a some programming language?

I am working in a security check project and I need know from an programming language or open some file if firefox is using a master password.

Generally speaking, there is nothing in the HTTP request to indicate to a server the type of window the request originates from. So you will have to manage it at the application level.

    Greetings Blueleoapple,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with Safari. You may want to consider resetting your device, which is different from restarting. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
