in the Application folder, selecting Kind view,  can it be be rearranged?

Not if you open the Applications folder by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar..  But you can also open the Applications folder in Finder, where the type of viewing Can be changed, somewhat.

  • When I try to put the icon in the applications folder, it says it can't install it because this file is in use: libsoftokn3.dylib. Ihave closed all apps and I have no idea what this is.

When I try to put the updated Firefox icon into my applications folder, I see this message:
The operation can’t be completed because the item “libsoftokn3.dylib” is in use.
I have closed all apps and don't understand what this refers to.

  • Application Folder Always Icon View

Somehow after the past update in Tiger, my applications folder will never show in the last view (list view) I had assigned. It always defaults back to Icon view. This is the same on another Intel iMac I have at work. What is going on? Fixing permissions does not seems to help.

that is odd. hopefully someone more mac savvy than myself will chime in and help you out. almost sounds like an app is to blame...installed any software recently on both?

  • I trash an application folder and now I can not find it anymore?

Hallo, I unistalled premier.. I trashed the folder and now i can no more download anymore because CC say that I've installed it... Bit I trashed it.. How can I do?

    Hello,
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html
2, Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"? Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
I quote: Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite (CS3-CS6) applications. The tool removes installation records for prerelease installations of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications. It does not affect existing installations of previous versions of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications.
Please use: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html   and follow the prescribed sequence of operations
4.If necessary and for further questions click through http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html or http://helpx.adobe.com/de/contact.html and if "open" please use chat, I had the best experiences.
    Good luck!

  • How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon.

How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon. And how / why did it disappear?

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

  • I downloaded Firefox. The logo is now in my Applications folder. Does that mean it is installed?

I downloaded Firefox. The logo is now in my Applications folder. Does that mean the program has been installed?

If you dragged it to the Applications folder, then it is installed; Firefox does not have an installer per se - you just drag it over. And yes, you can delete it from the Downloads folder - I actually have my downloads set to park themselves on the desktop; that way, I don't forget they're there, install them (or file them away) and then trash the download.
You can also easily check to see if the application is really complete by highlighting the icon and hitting the Command-I keys - that will bring up a get info window; the size of my Firefox app is about 77 MB - what does yours say?
For general info: some applications want you to simply drag them to the Applications folder - those are also the kind you can simply drag to the trash in case you want to delete them. Others bring up an installer which places components in the right places automatically - if you want to delete one of those, it's best to check for and use their own uninstaller.

  • I download the new version. No Firefox icon appears to be dragged into the Applications folder. I am on a new Mac with the latest software.

I downloaded the most recent version of Firefox as requested. No Firefox icon appears
to drag into the Applications folder. I tried twice with no luck. The old version remains.
I am on a new Mac. I will, when this works, be updating my older Mac as well.

The thing in your download folder is a "disk image." You have to double-click it and it will place a white "disk" on your desktop. It should also open a window with a Firefox icon and your applications folder. Then you can drag it to the applications folder. When you are done drag that disk to the trash. • Can we attach Parking lots directly to the Arch.View

    Dear all,
As per our client requirement we segregated separate master data for the Parking lots & garages.  So I want to assign the Parking lots directly to the Arch.view.  But its not accepting,  So I assigned the parking lots through the property is it right way.
Can I have the right information.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jayakar

    Hi Jayakar,
in general, architectural objects can be assigned to other architectural objects (depending on the hierarchy in customizing) and objects of the usage view can be assigned to other objects of the usage view. Hierarchy of usage view is given.
Are the Parking lots architectural objects? Then you have to check the hierarchy in customizing.
Is this the information you needed? If not please give more detailed explanation

  • "Appy permissions to enclosed" to the Applications Folder...

..now permissions repair takes around 4 hours to complete as I get "ACL found but not expected" on every file under my applications folder.
Please, how can I take this back? Also, it would be nice to have permissions to remove apps, as it is my machine and my account is an admin.

    glad to have helped m8

  • Can't overwrite anything in my Applications Folder

I can remove and add things but if I try to overwrite something it will say I don't have the privileges to do it. I have tired repairing permissions and repairing the disc. Help please!! This is angering me.

If you do a "get info" ie command-i on the primary Applications folder, you will find that it is owned by "system"
Each user can have his or her own user Applications folder to which they can add or subtract at ease.
The main Application folder usually asks for an admin password in order to change anything in it.
edit: Admin user can read and write to Applications (see "details" in "get info" but some applications themselves are owned by "system" and are "locked"; those you cannot change. For instance, iCal is owned by system and is locked, you cannot change the application. That does not mean that you cannot change your preferences and uses of the app, it simply means that you cannot change the application itself.
If you try to change system apps, you will create problems. That is why you have a user folder that has library, prefs, documents etc. Those change the results of the application but not the application itself.

  • Icon size in Application folder

WHen viewing the application folder from the Dock, the icons have now been enlarged and I have to scroll through the application folder to find apps, how can I reduce the icon size within the Application folder? when viewed from the Dock?
    Thanks
    John

Actually, you don't even have go to the View menu for the slider. It should be at the lower right of your Finder window in Icon View. AFA the alias in your Dock, poof it and create a new one by dragging your
apps folder to the Dock. Don't do it from the Sidebar, do it from Computer/Macintosh HD/Applications.
    Let us know.

  • Re-organizing Applications folder

My Applications folder is getting rather full. It takes a noticeable length of time just to open it (nothing worrying, just a noticeable lag). I know this is due to the number of items. I'd like to organize the apps into 5 or 6 "category" folders (eg movie stuff, sound stuff, graphics stuff, etc.
Is there any reason at all that certain apps need to be at the top of the Applications folder (ie not in a folder in the apps folder)?
Is there any argument for ~not~ putting apps in a folder within the applications folder; that its not a good idea?

Is there any argument for ~not~ putting apps in a
folder within the applications folder; that its not a
    good idea?
Definitely not a good idea. Many apps require that they be located at /Applications, especially Apple's apps. The most common problem that occurs if they are moved is that they fail to update properly via Software Update.
What you can do is create a folder somewhere, organized any way you like, with aliases to your apps. That way you can have your custom-organized "Applications" folder, while leaving the real Applications folder untouched. You can also drop your "Applications" folder (the one with the aliases in it) into the right side of the dock, so that you can right-click on it and navigate to your programs that way, kinda like the Windows Start Menu.

  • Organizing Applications folder

Is there a way to organize the Applications folder so that I can find the ones I use often without having to wade through all the dreck, or at least hiding the stuff I'm not interested in from view? If I can't impose some order on this thing it will be impossible to find anyting.

The Applications folder should be left as is. If desired, create a new folder in any location and press the Option and Command keys while dragging items to it; aliases can be renamed and rearranged as you see fit.

  • /Applications Folder not opening in Finder but works in Terminal

    Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to Yosemite, but I'm not sure if this is a Yosemite-related bug.
My application folder (/Applications) does not open in finder (see screenshots)
The spinner keep spinning in the bottom right corner.
Also, when I "Get Info", it keeps calculating the size and never completes.
Also, when I drag the Applications folder to the dock, nothing happens.
However, it works fine in Terminal:
    $ cd /; ls -lh
    drwxrwxr-x+ 129 root   admin   4.3K Oct 17 03:14 Applications
When I go inside the Applications folder (in terminal), I can list all the files in it.Oddly enough, most of them are greyed out, and it only says "total 8" when I have way more than 8 apps.
    $ cd /Applications; ls -lh
    total 8

I can even open my apps in Terminal:
    $ cd /Applications; open Notes.app
Mission Control works fine as well.
Does anyone know how I can see my Applications in Finder?
I've tried the usual Disk Utility (verify/repair permissions) and even reinstalled a fresh copy of Mac OSX Yosemite (using recovery).
Note: I did mess around with ~/Library/Preferences immediately after installing Yosemite because of the background flashing bug (I deleted some plists files to fix that bug).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Drew, I have previously done everything you have listed as possible remedies, with no success.
Well in that case the options I see are…
    1.
This seems like a 'defaults write tweak' or similar system level modification that is failing on the latest OS.
Revert any applied system tweaks from apps like Secrets or Onyx, that is if you remember applying any (these can be things like 'no-glass dock', no shadows on screenshots etc).
Your Terminal may have the command history saved. Try 'history' in that app to see if you have any 'defaults write' changes listed. Post them here for help to revert them.
It seems likely to me that the 'background flashing bug' mentioned earlier by helloziy was fixing a bad defaults write setting (preferences store the defaults write tweaks). If you have one 'bad tweak', there are probably others elsewhere on the system.
    2.
I would consider backing up, erasing the internal disk & clean installing the OS. Migrate ONLY your user data back to the new install (avoid Applications & 'other files' - they could be the reason for this issue). You will need to reinstall apps as you need them.
    3.
Another possibility is using EtreCheck to view what everyone has installed & running…
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
It would basically be a case of comparing affected reports & then removing or reinstalling apps until something changes (a crapshoot).
Etrecheck will not tell you about any 'defaults write' or other system modifications.
    4.
I'd backup & consider removing all system preferences. This is drastic & may break many things until you alter the default settings!
Reboot into recovery mode & remove the contents of /Library/Preferences from the boot disk, it will need to be done in Terminal.
You need to do this when the OS isn't running because Mac OS will cache preferences and some values will be written back to new files even after deleting the original files. Keep a backup of the files handy incase the OS breaks on next reboot!
Sorry it's not a solution, but it may help some diagnosis that get you closer to one.
