In the book module of Lightroom 4 I would like to create a two-page spread with a text block

I'd like to use a single photo as a crossover through the gutter. I do not see an option to include a text block in such a layout. Am I missing something?

I think many of us were mislead by Adobe's labeling of the boxes as "text" and "caption" - at least I was, initially.
The text options of the templates are not very versatile since neither their location nor their size can be changed, once it is fulf with text - that's it.
The surprising - and unexpected-  feature is the caption box that in reality is the needed text box since
a) it adapts in size to the amount of text - and to the size of the font,
b) the text can be moved within the box with the Padding Feature, and
c) the box can be moved up or down with the Offset slider.
To make the caption box that versatile you have to uncheck <Align with photo> in the Caption panel.

  • Lightroom 5.2 - Background Image on a Two-Page spread in the Book Module

Is there a way i can make the Background image spread in the two-page spread in the Book Module. Currently i see the same Background image repeating which is annoying. Or is there a workaround. I'm using LightRoom 5.2. Please Advise.

I have an even simpler method. I use MyPublisher to print my books. I select their page layout for a two-page spread, drag and drop the image. DONE!  I understand that most people have their favorite places to have work done. I have been extremely pleased with MyPublisher.com, so I haven't even tried the book module in Lightroom.

  • I am having trouble typing text in the book module in Lightroom 4.3

Hi, I am trying to create a book in the "book module" in Lightroom 4.3. Putting pictures in the picture containers doesn't seem to be a problem, but when I try to type in text into the text containers it will not let me.  I click onto an empty text container, it highlights, then I cannot get a cursor to appear and it will not let me type in text. I have watched several videos now on making books in the book module and all they do is click on the text container and start typing, it looks like it should be easy. Please help, thanks

Is there a way to take pages from one book to start a second book without having to "redo" the pages again in the new book?

  • My (saved) book totally disappeared from the Book module in Lightroom

    Dear +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom,
I have been working for the past 100 hours or so on a 200+ page book in the book module in LR4.
Went to work on a second book that I had just begun to organize and came back to a full filmstrip (including the usage numbers showing me that all of the images had been used including a tiny 2 for a cover image) and the 4 blank pages we all see upon starting a project.
My entire book was gone. Poof!
I'm surprised you didn't hear my scream all the way in San Jose.
This couldn't be...I had officially saved the book several weeks ago when I first began it and had been working on it steadily ever since.
(For the record, I am working on a Mac OS X v10.7.5 and updated LR to v4.2.)
I can't begin to tell you the sick feeling over losing this amount of work.
I went to your LR forums to see if this was unique to me (Did I inadvertently hit a button I shouldn't have?)
I have always felt very confidant in LR's "saving" and "backup" abilities. Now I am devastated and have lost total confidence.
Do I try again in LR or move to another program?
So a friend helped me find these:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4303611
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4322352
(Which I've read very thoroughly and tried everything suggested.)
When I opened my most recent backup of LR, all the text was missing and many of the images were in color (this is a book of monochrome imagery)
    Huh?
When I went into my Time Capsule backups, same thing.
No text and many images were reset to original RAW files as if no post-processing had been done.
    Huh? (Again)
The thing that is genuinely unsettling is Adobe's lack of response to the issues expressed in the forums.
Surely the book making ability is an important one to your audiences?
Did I mention how sick I am over this?
So my question is this...can you help me? Can anyone there help me?
Because I really need help right now and don't want to lose confidence in a company that has always provided me with the tools I make my living from.
Or should I put this out publicly.
Right now I want to scream "Do not under any circumstances make a book using the book module in LR 4 until this devastating issue is addressed!!!"
(Fortunately, I have over 2,000,000 followers here on Google+ but not to worry...many do not speak English or know Adobe as anything more than material used to build huts.)
I am trying to stay reasonable. But again, I am very concerned over the lack of responsiveness on Adobe's part. Perhaps that will help get this problem addressed. Or more importantly, help a few other creative folks avoid how absolutely devastated I feel right now.
    (Big *******' sigh)
    Please respond. Please.
    Regards Alan Shapiro

It states in the iBooks Store that this book can only be read on an iPad or Mac.

  • Text in the Book Module of Lightroom 4

To add text to the Book Module, you can olny paste, meaning that you have to have a separate word processor. Why can't the Text Tool of photoshop be added to the Book Module?
Once I added text to the Book, I could no copy a complete paragraph, I was allowed to copy one line at a time.
This is just feeddback from a few moments with the Beta version of LR4.

  • I would like to create a new page that does not show up in my "menu" .

I would like to set up a new page on my website for a specific one-time use.
I don't want the page to show up in my menu at the top.
The new "hidden" page will have specific files that already exist on other pages but re-arranged for a specific client.
Is there a way to do this so that I can just send someone a link to the new hidden page?
    Thanks

Open iWeb and then create the page you want to hide. Open the Inspector and then click on Page and then click on 'do not include page in nav bar'. It is as simple as.

  • Book module of lightroom changed book format

I am having an issue with the book module of lightroom (using it for blurb)
I made a book chosing the large landscape format.
I completed it all and  only when exporting to blurb, surprised by the low price,
I had noticed that it had become a "standard format".
I never had changed the format.
So I made a copy of the book, changed the format.
And in order to do that I  confirmed that I would accept changes in layout.
Lightroom did not to a bad job,but
    1) some pictures had disappeared
    2) some pages templates were not available in large book format (e.g. the 4x3 multiple page)
I started correcting the book again and half way I noticed that lightroom HAD CHANGED AGAIN THE FORMAT
and brought it back to standard format, WITHOUT ASKING FOR CONFIRMATION.
    I am now starting again.
Not nice to have to redo again considerable work on a 160 pages book, on a deadline.
Definitely there is something to be fixed there.
If anyone had experienced anything like this, please let me know
I will try to reformat the book again now, hoping that it will work.
Otherwise I have really no idea about what to do.

Are you using Lr 4.3? If not, upgrade to Lr 4.3. There were issues with the Book Module in Lr 4.1.
For Lr 4.xx users the upgrade to Lr 4.3 is free of charge.
Download it from Adobe's website, install it, and - when asked - enter your serial #.

  • I have worked out a simple way to put a single picture in the background on a two-page spread!

Please remember, if you have been working on your book, click on Create Saved Book to save your book BEFORE you do this.  You can lose all your work up until the point where you create a saved book.  After that, it appears on the left menu bar under Collections with whatever name you saved it under.  Your book will most likely not appear when you click back on the Book module after leaving it.  Don't panic - it hasn't disappeared.  If you clicked Create Saved Book to begin with - it's there under Collections.
So here's the exciting bit (well the solution anyway):
Click on the picture you want to use as your two-page spread
STEP 1 - In the Library module
select your image (e.g. X.jpg) and right click on "Export..."
send a copy of this picture to "Same folder as original photo" (DON'T overwrite! remember to use a unique name, such as X_1.jpg)
then repeat to create another copy (use another unique name, such as X_2.jpg)
STEP 2 - In the Develop module, take X_1 and:
click on Crop Overlay (the dotted rectangle at the top of the right menu, just below the histogram)
select a region that is 50% of the width of your original image (easiest is to click on Custom and enter original height plus half original width)
click on the middle of crop region (hand grab icon) and drag the image all the way to the RIGHT
click again on the dotted rectangle
X_1 will now be an image that is just the LEFT half of your original image.
STEP 3 - In the Develop module, then take X_2 and:
    click on Crop Overlay
select the same region that you used for step 2
click on the middle of crop region (hand grab icon) and drag the image all the way to the LEFT
click again on the dotted rectangle
X_2 will now be an image that is just the RIGHT half of your original image.
STEP 4 - In the Library module
select the folder your original photo was in
find your two new copies of that photo
drag them to your book situated in the Collections folder on the left menu bar
STEP 5 - Look under Collections and click on your book and then in the Book module
in the Background section (right side menu), UNcheck "Apply Background Globally"
to the right of the small rectangle below that, click on the tiny arrowhead and make sure "Photos" is selected
select the left page of your spread and drag X_1 (the left half) onto the rectangle
select the right page of your spread and drag X_1 (the right half) onto the rectangle
    DONE!
Of course, you can now select any of the existing templates for your left and right pages.  Remember, if you don't fill a particular template frame with a photo, it remains blank in the finished product (you can always check the preview in the top left corner in Spread View mode).  For example you could pick a 4 x 4 template and only use the top three outer frames on the outer edge of both pages.
Have fun!  I was so excited when I finally worked out this work-around

I would like to be able to enter my own page sizes to use in the Book Module (to export to 3rd party printers), rather than choosing defaults from the drop-down. Is it possible to do this?

No. You are limited to the choices within the Lightroom Book module.

  • Lightroom stalls on trying to export from the book module

Lightroom stalls on trying to export from the book module to either PDF or Blurb. Progress bar at the top left just shows "Exporting book...rendering cover.untitled DNG". I have even tried a single page low resolution book but no difference. This happened in Lightroom 4 and still after upgrading to Lightroom 5. I have tried I have tried also unchecking all the background options.

When you click on <Send Book to Blurb> a dialog should come up that asks for your ID and password for your Blurb account. I don't know if Blurb ships to Norway - you probably can find out at the Blurb website. But I don't think that this is the problem here since you also cannot export a PDF or JPGs.
I don't know of any specifics why this is not possible for you but it's worth trying to replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr or updating / upgrading Lr does not replace the Preference File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.

  • Font smoothing in the Book module

    Hi everyone,
I use the Book module and export the resulting pages to jpeg files. Any text (text field, page caption, photo caption) is rasterized when zooming to 1:1 on the exported jpeg file. The pattern on the font edges is sharp without any smoothing (only black or white pixels, no shades on edges). In the printed pictures one can still see this pattern, it is really ugly.
I never saw this when usig photoshop or any of those simple online programs for preparing photobooks.
In the "Book Settings" I set the same resolution as I use for printing by Blurb-like printing companies, e.g., 400ppi/dpi.
Of course, the "solution" would be to set much higher ppi in the "Book Settings". But then propably the export sharpening does not work properly.
Do you observe the same behavior? How do you solve it?
    Thanks a lot!

    Yes, same here.

  • Unable to export from the Book Module in LR-4.4 to Blurb, PDF and JPEG

I have made a book in the book module and was really looking forward to send it to Blurb for printing. I push the "Send book to Blurb... " button but nothing happens. I have tried to export to PDF and JPEG aswell, but nothing. I am Connected to internet, I have an account at Blurb but no reaction. Are there any settings I have missed or are there any bugs that prevents me from exporting? Do Blurb ship to Norway or is that the problem? Please help!!!

  • How can I turn off the price display in the Book module?

I would love to use the book module to design wedding albums with my clients, but with my cost splashed all over the screen I can only imagine the negotiations that will happen over the price I'll be charging them!  What I need is to be able display the client price,  something allowing a mark-up percentage would be great, however for now I would be happy just to turn it off.

John, with all due respect (and I do have the utmost respect for your opinion and your contributions here and elsewhere) that just doesn't stand the litmus test. Could you please pont out another Adobe authored application that is so restrictive as to what can be exported. Or so restrictive as to document size and customization to the point where I must either use an outside application or wait patiently for vendors "to come on board" in order to achieve my desired customization? Other than Flash of course ... even then Adobe has gone to great lengths of late to make output from that app much more versatile with conversion options to other devices.
Let's experiment with the other modules and see if your information about Adobe's methods for the Book module holds water:
    Develop Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Nikon (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other camera makers to come on board."
    Print Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Epson (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other printer manufacturers to come on board."
    Web Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with Internet Explorer (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other internet browser developers to come on board."
    Slideshow Module:
"Adobe have stated elsewhere why they initially went with WMV (worldwide coverage, customer profiles) and that there are mechanisms for other video file options to come on board."
As I have shared elsewhere, when I want to design a custom size for a book in Aperture 3, I simply select Custom, type in the dimensions and margin sizes and procede to lay out the book. Once completed, I can export the book to the favored vendor (Which could be Blurb for all I know), export to PDF, Export the pages or spreads to TIFF or JPEG ... and all this in one of those terrible restrictive, limiting and "closed" Apple software options ...
I'm sorry, but the Book module in it's current form is almost a total non-feature for many users. Adobe simply got it wrong. I expected much more from them and was willing to pay for it. Half-measures are not sollutions. Unfortunately for Adobe, I only invest in sollutions not more workarounds.
