In the iPhone maps app, the favorite selection no longer appears on my iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.2

I recently noticed that the "favorites" selection no longer appears when I tap the search bar in iPhone 6 maps.  I need to enter the address every time.  It seems like the address is stored, just no longer visible as a selection.  Recent places also are no longer visible.  I believe this was working before the upgrade to 8.1.2.  Any suggestions?

Try saving some of your recent places into Favorites to see if that will then appear in that page. You could also try resetting your phone as described below:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
Did you set up your phone as a new user, or did you load a backup file?

I just updated my iPhone 4s to IOS 7 and now all my icons for apps I had previously downloaded B4 the upgrade dont show on my home screen, does anyone know what happen and how I can get the icons back on my screen??

Apps are in iTunes, are not part of the backup and when you updated the phone, you need to sync that content back.

You cannot make Google Maps the default mapping app.

  • Updated my iPad 2 to ios6 and wish I didn't. Lost the wonderful maps app and I'm miserable.  Is there a replacement app coming from google with street view for iPad?

Looking to the community for a suggestion for the best replacement map app for my ipad2.  I regret "upgrading" to ios6 when I lost the old maps app.  I used it daily and had perfect functionality for my purposes.  Now I wish I'd researched it more before I clicked '"install."  Is there a google replacement coming soon with street view that works like the old one?  Is apple working on fixing the existing app to include the features of the old app?   So sad....wish I could go back!

I tried the google Maps app on my iPad2 but it looked terrible.  Blurry when expanded to 2X, clumsy and not intuitive.  Terrible for my purposes and way different from the old Google Maps app.  Per International Business Times (12/13/12):
"While iOS users may be rejoicing at the return of their favorite navigation app, it should be noted that Google Maps has not yet launched for the iPad. The version currently available in Apple’s App Store is only for the iPhone, and Apple Maps will still act a the default Maps App on iPhones even after Google Maps has been installed."
Perhaps it'll look/behave better when an iPad version is eventually released.   But thank you anyway.
Gonna try the EggMapsHD.  Just wish there were some reviews out there.

  • How can I update a location in the Apple Maps app?

The location across the road from my office building shows that a high school is there, but that is not the case.  The high school has not been located across the road in over 20 years.  I found this error when I was updating the location information in Google Places and thought to check the location accuracy in the Apple Maps app.  How can I submit for a correction to the location info?

Apple has always included a way to "report a problem" in iOS 6 Maps, but because it does so in the context of Yelp local search information, it's not readily obvious that this button is for reporting map errors rather than just filing a grievance against a business or Yelp's data (below).
    Might try here...

  • How do I get other apps to switch to the actual Maps app instead of loading a webpage when I click on an address?

Since upgrading to iOS 6, I've noticed something irritating.  Although I never used Google Maps before, I don't mind using the Maps app now because it provides turn by turn directions.  Yes, I've heard the supposed horror stories, but the thing works fine for me.
However, I have run into a significantly irritating issue.  Whenever I click on an address and it tells me it will launch the Maps app, it doesn't.  Instead, it launches a webpage with Google Maps, which are more than useless as they only provide a list of turns.  How can I get my iPhone to actually do what it is saying it will do and have it launch the Maps app instead?

I'm also on iPhone 4, iOS 6, and have exactly the same problem. I've tried resetting privacy settings, turning restrictions on and off, deleting and reinstalling apps. Nothing seems to work. The lists of apps in privacy settings are all empty, except for location services. When using Tweetbot the app is regularly asking for permission to access my twitter account, but even when I allow that, the app doesn't show in privacy settings. When I try to go into the camera roll from the Facebook app, the app tells me I have to allow access to the camera roll from the privacy settings - which I can't do since the app is not listed there.

I have an I phone 4. When I bought it the google maps app came pre installed. I am in the process of adding thousands of customers into my stock contacts app. Sometimes I want to drop a pin in an exact location on the property. I drop it, assign it to the contact, leave the app, and then come back into the contacts app and click on the address. It then takes me into google maps where I constantly discover that the pin has moved. It often moves off the property of the addresss or building I dropped a pin on. I am trying to solve this. I want that pin to stay in the exact location that I dropped it. Can somebody please help?

Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch.

  • Can I set Google Maps to be the default map app?

OK, I've had enough.  I thought I could live with the quirks of Apple Maps, but the other day, I was trying to get directions from Reagan airport to my hotel in DC. Although the app correcty located me at the airport, it insisted on starting the directions from *a golf course on the other side of the Potomac*.  Seriously?  This wasn't a tiny mistake.  It couldn't figure out a major airport in a major US city.  That was the last straw.
I downloaded the Google Map app, and it was wonderful.  Not only did it (of course) give me the correct directions, but it even talked to me (I have an iPhone 4, which Apple has deemed unworthy of turn by turn directions).
Is there a way to make Google Maps my default Map app? so that when the OS recognizes something as an address it opens that instead of Apple Maps?

What on earth is wrong with Apple??  The ENTIRE REASON I MADE MY ORIGINAL PURCHASE WAS GOOGLE MAPS. The arrogance of they know better than the folks using their product is astonishing.  I don't care what the articles say, this map debacle is killing potential iPhone sales.  If they will not support MY NEEDS, I'll abandon my investment in applications as the important ones use Google maps and will be worthless anyhow.  Already applications I want demand iOS 6 which I refuse to download.  This phone will become an iPod and I will never again trust apple with my future.  This is not the first time apple has decided for me.  It's going to be the last decision you make for me.  Trust.

  • TS1702 Dear Apple: You've lost your way with the new Map app

    Dear Apple:
I have always been a faithful iPhone user because I believed it was the best device on the market.  Other phones keep coming out with useful and fun features and applications, but I remained loyal to the iPhone, knowing that it was a game of leap-frog and Apple would always catch up and surpass the competition.
Now, unfortunately, you have fallen short.  Not only did you not beat the competition, but you took a big step backwards with your Map application.
I rely on a good map app to help me get around a city that is still new to me, find stores and locations quickly and easily, and get information on public transportation.  Your map app can do none of that.  It's cumbersome, not integrated with public transit routes, and doesn't even know where my local BevMo! is.
I don't just want the old Map app back, I NEED it back.  The new one feels crippling compared to what I had before.  I'm struggling with it on every use, and am longing for the old app on every usage.
I don't care about your competition with Google.  That's between you and them.  But don't make the customer the victim of this war.  Swallow your pride and admit that Google beat you handily on this one front.  And then get the old Map app back for me.  It will make Apple the winner in the long run, I promise.
    Sincerely,
    Eric

This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing anything to Apple here.
The licensing agreement between Apple and Google for the Maps app and YouTube app expired. Rumor has it Google wanted to include advertising with Apple's Maps and YouTube apps and probably wanted to increase their licensing fee. It isn't coming back.

  • "Click here to download the latest map app..." here's what you need to do...

It looks like they're pushing out the googlemap -> Bing maps update to the palm pre handsets now.  The process they've come up with is kind of flawed.  It's probably best to just go to the app catalog & download the new map app directly.  If you wait for them to push it to you, what happens is that once you start googlemap, instead of going to the map app, it shows a hyperlink text stating "click here to download the latest map app."  Clicking that link will keep you in the googlemap app, but will display a webpage designed for a full-size browser experience.  You will have *no* way to zoom in to see any of the text.  It's all miniscule gibberish.
Here's what you need to do.  Everything you need is on the left hand side.  The first field is a drop down letting you pick your country.  Then, there's a field where you enter in the phone number associated with your palm. Then there's a check box that you need to check indicating that you've read whatever gibberish was written on the left side.  then you click the big grey button on the lower left.
It sends an sms message to you allowing you to link to the appropriate app download.  like I said...it probably would've saved you effort to just go directly to the app catalog.

Although I have been using Google Maps App in India for a while now (without any issues) but I still want to know if there are any plans for launching Turn by Turn Navigation under the OOTB Map App for iOS?
It has been quite a while since Apple came up with Map App of their own and should be releasing improved maps with more capabilities in India.
    Cheers!

No one here can answer your question, as there is no one from Apple here, & no one here represents Apple or speaks for Apple.

  • How much data does the apple maps app use per hour ?

    hello,
i would like to know, if somebody could give me a rough number of how much the Apple Maps app uses per hour for navigation ?

Apple's Maps app uses vector graphics, so it doesn't have to download data everytime your view changes, & also has an offline mode...you can download quite a large area over WiFi & then use this cache to navigate.
So, I really wouldn't worry too much about its data usage. Most tests I've read indicate it uses about 80% less data than Google Maps.

  • Protocols or COntent type used by the iPod Maps app

I use the Map app on my iPod Touch (2G) all the time. Today I am on vacation and in spite of the fact that I have good WiFi connectivity, two apps will not function at all: The NY Times reader and the Apple Maps app. While you can use Safari to bring up the NY Times website (http://www.nytimes.com) and Google maps (http://maps.google.com), you cannot bring up http://mobile.nytimes.com in Safari.
I believe the local WatchGuard Firewall at this resort is filtering out certain types of content it believes may be somehow destructive. I can see the error message: Unsafe content type "application/xhtml+xml" reported when attempting to access mobile.nytimes.com
As far as the Maps app goes, one cannot bring up any bookmark nor determine one's current location, viz., "Your location cannot be determined." after some delay. I understand that in certain circumstances the message simply implies that the WiFi access point in use may never have been mapped, but the inability to look up any known good arbitrary address implies to me a communications problem.
Anyone know what protocol and/or content type may be is use by the Maps app?

If you want to create a message that has both plain text and html versions of the main
message content, you want to create a multipart/alternative message, as described in
    this FAQ entry.
If that message also needs to have attachments, you should embed the multipart/alternative
part in a multipart/mixed message, along with the attachment parts.
If the html part needs to reference images included with the message, you would replace
the text/html part with a multipart/related part, as described in this FAQ entry.
Combining all these techniques together can seem a bit complicated unless you understand
recursion! :-) Remember that in addition to creating a body part with a text content type,
you can create a body part with a multipart content type, and use that body part in the same
places you would use a text body part.
As for making sure your message isn't marked as spam, well, you're probably asking in the
wrong place, but the simple answer is to make sure that it's actually not spam! Usually the
structure of the message isn't as important as the content of the message.

  • Does the new Map app under iOS6 not offer driving directions in the United Arab Emirates?
