In the trial version of LR5, my NEF images (taken with a Nikon D7100) are not visible

I downloaded the trial version of LR5, then imported a set of images, shot with my new Nikon D7100, and saved as both JPEG and NEF on the memory card. When I imported them to LR, the JPEG images are visible but the NEF images are grey squares--although the image info (date, size, etc) show when the cursor hovers over the square. When I click on one of the NEF squares to open the image, "Could not read preview" appears instead of the image. I've used earlier LR versions and never encountered this problem so I have no idea what is going on.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone uses that utility to download their images. The import dialog in Lightroom works perfectly to do that transfer. I don't know if Nikon Transfer is the culprit since you are using a newer version. But here is a link to a utility that you can use that is supposed to correct the problem caused by using Nikon Transfer. I have never used it, but have seen it recommended. I also have never used Nikon Transfer to download files from my Nikon cameras.

i have had lightroom 5 for some time now, and have used on my pc. I just got a mac (no disc drive) so I downloaded the trial version of LR5 from the adobe site. Once installed, i tried to key in my serial number.

If you have a paid-up version of LR4 or earlier, you can pay for an upgrade licence. When you install LR and it asks for a licence, if you give it an upgrade licence then it will ask for the previous licence that you're upgrading.

If you mean will you lose the work you've done in the trial version: no, you shouldn't.
Ideally, before you remove the trial version, back up the catalog. Go to Edit menu (in LR), Catalog settings... and click "Show", which will take you to the folder containing the catalog (for Windows, don't know about Mac). Make a note of that folder location, and preferably take a copy somewhere.
When you've installed the CC version (as BKKDon says), if the CC version doesn't open the existing catalog, go to File menu, Open Catalog... and take it to the existing catalog.

A Cloud subscription SHOULD always show you the most recent updates, so you may then choose to do the install

I have used LR3 so kinda know what I'm doing. But I am getting the following wrror message when I open LR5 "Error occurred when changing modules" - I can't seem to import any pictures... under "file" there is no option for importing like there was in LR3

Is the Trial Version a Trap?

I have installed the trial version of iwork 09 and registered it with Apple. The new features are nice but I am not sure if my usage justifies spending another 70 € so soon after having purchased iwork 08 in November.
The problem now is that even having saved my life´s work using "save as" as directed by a popup box, subsequent trying to open the file in numbers 08 gives an error message that "xml index file is not available".
Does this mean that I am now obliged to buy iwork 09 to get back my information and is the trial version a trap for the unwary?

Thanks for that information. It seems Apple has taken the same approach as the previous upgrade. It wouldn't be so bad if it recognised, or there was an option to say it is a previous iWork version document so it saves it as such when you save. Currently you have to go to save as and then you can't save as the current file name as your open file because it is already open! It is all a bit cumbersome. What would be nice is an intelligent file format that transparently saves in a format that makes it possible to open it in any version of iwork though I suppose that would require an update to previous versions when new ones come out to take into account the new features etc.

In PC I have changed the default app location from default to other and copied the previous content to new location and changed the Default location in preference. Now in iTunes, my previous apps are not visible. Is there any solution to this?

I already have purchased PS CS6 and LR5 in prior times. I just signed up for PS CC with Lightroom for Photographers for a one-year contract. The Adobe CC installer installed both PS CC and LR5. Now, 2 days later I get an email from Adobe with subject line "welcome to your Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 trial and goes on about a 30-day trial of LR5. I did not download or ask for any "trial version" of LR5. I already have the independent stand-alone version plus included it as part of the CC package I contracted for. What is this email alluding to "trial version"?

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Can I download the trial version of photoshop and use it as the full version with my serial number?

I have photoshop 6.0 on my current computer, I got in in college 4 years ago and the disc subsequently came to a tragic end after a collision with my dogs teeth T_T I still have the serial number though. My problem is I've just bought a new computer and I was told that to transfer photoshop to my new computer I had to deactivate it on my old computer and then download the trial version using the original serial number. Will this work?

Either way this would not be the current version so it will be difficult to obtain the installation files as we only offer replacement media for the current version. I want to sign up for the Photography plan but I also have a Windows Vista laptop, and that is old too so I may want to put the apps on a new desktop and a new laptop, having already installed on my desktop. You cannot have three activations. It's simply not technically possible. If and when the time comes, you simply deactivate/ sign out on one of the old systems and install on the new one. If the system goes belly up, you contact support to reset your account. No need to make it more complicated than that and overthink it.
