In the year view, why is iCal coloring the boxes?

In the year view, why is iCal coloring the boxes and what does each color mean and how do we change it? It makes no sense or has any rhymn or reason according to what is in my calendar.

By default it is colored by the number of entries for each day. From white for no entries through yellow to orange and then red for the most entries.

I have a new iPad3 and have found I cannot open the month of March 2013 when I tap on it. All other months open OK ! I can see March 2013 in the yearly view and I can open the individual days, and weeks, of March 2013 but I cannot see the whole month in the monthly view. When I try to open the monthly view for March 2013 it returns me to the start screen which shows all the apps etc and closes the Calendar app. Any guidance of what is going wrong and how it can be corrected. Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles nowadays. Sir Jony Ive's GUI design for iOS7 has been met with much skepticism (to say the least). But until the company sees the compelling need for an adjustment or reversal, it "ain't happenin' ". So amble over to the feedback page ( http://www.apple.com/feedback/ ) and make your displeasure known to the company, OR make it known by not purchasing its products. Because as long as the iGadgets continue selling as fast as they can make them, they will see no need for change.
BTW, do note you are NOT talking to Apple here. This is just a user-to-user forum.
Edit: for now, you can also try out any of the alternate calendaring apps available in the App Store.

How can I print just the year view in iCal?

If you choose the "list" option in View on the print dialog box and uncheck everything at the bottom except "To do items" you may be able to get what you're looking for. It appears that the list includes all todos including those without due dates, so you might have to do something to assign due dates to all your todos and in iCal preferences restrict the visibility of todos outside of a certain date range. Unfortunately, you can't save any of this work into a standard report (at least not that I know of) - the print dialog in iCal starts from scratch every time you invoke it. Hope that helps at least some.

Bug? My events on the iPad iCal app aren't shown in the year view if they are more than two years in the future.

My events on the iPad iCal app aren't shown in the year view if they are more than two years in the future even though I can see them on the month, week and day view. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I've tried it all. I called the apple support and they checked on their iPads. They all did the same and they couldn't help me. They suggested trying this way. I'd like to be able to plan a few years ahead and the year view would make thing so easy!

Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
Then reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Does the Date Modified column in a window set to List view show the date correctly, or does it also display it incorrectly?
To add additional columns to a Finder (folder) window, with that window open and active open the View Options for it. You can do that by pressing Command-J or by selecting View Options from the View menu in the main menubar.

Settings>General>International.
Set the calendar to "Gregorian". You have it set to Buddhist.

Launch Console fails: the vnc viewer is not installed on the manager server and no local vnc viewer is found.

I have created and started a VM image and try to configure this image, but when launching the console I get the error:
"the vnc viewer is not installed on the manager server and no local vnc viewer is found."
I've read the vnc console does not rely on a local version of the vnc client, but uses the java vnc. From the java log I get:

It is not clear to me yet what is expected to be running where. My configuration is:
- VM Server 3.1 on Linux host A
- VM Manager 3.1 on Linux host B
- Connected via Windows 7 64-bit client via a browser to the Management Server. Let's call this host C
When launching the console it tries to connect to 127.0.0.1:60505 so to localhost and a port#.
- Given this information I would expect it tries to launch the vncviewer from my management server (host B).
- /usr/bin/vncviewer is installed on host B, but this appears not to be used.
- We see java vnc is started on my Windows 7 client (host C) and it tries to connect to 127.0.0.1 (localhost on my Windows client??) and not to the remote management server (host B)!?
Questions:
1 - Can someone explain what exactly is being executed (from where and to which host) when launching the console?
2 - Is this a java version / Windows 7 related configuration issue? How to fix this?

Verify that you signed in to the CC desktop app with the same Adobe ID you used to set up the subscription. If you haven't signed in, or if you signed in with a different Adobe ID, your installed software will not be associated with your subscription and you will get exactly the kinds of message you describe.

I found a solution!
Perhaps this is just temporary, but I have my display up and working again.
Although the symptoms are different were a bit different, the solution here worked:

As I was able to connect to my HD via an external monitor, in the finder, I went to:
1. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Extensions
2. From there I moved all of the files that started with ADM and ATI (19 in total for me) to a folder on my desktop. (You will need to enter your admin password for this)
3. Next was a restart.
4. Then my display started working again.
5. After that, I transferred the files back into my Extensions folder.
6. I then did another restart with my fingers crossed and breath held. It worked.
Also... During the last few days of trying to find a fix, I restored a Mavericks backup to my computer away from Yosemite.
I'm very sure this problem occurred when I put my MBP to sleep, disconnected the power in its sleep, while something was connected to a USB port and unplugging the USB device (for me an iPhone charger) while the MBP was closed.
I hope this helps the next person.

How to change the default view of published iCal's URL

I am publishing an iCal for a nonprofit group and link to the calendar from the group's website. The default URL given (in the send publish email option) leads to the week view of the current week. I would prefer the link to take site visitors to the month view of the calendar. If I go to the month view and copy the URL for it, and use that for the link, I have to change the URL each month, because the URL that comes from the month view will only show the month it was at the time I copied the URL -- it will not change with the new month. Does anyone have any idea of how I can change the URL so that it leads to the month view of whatever the current month is?
I should note that I know how to change the default view in the my browser, but I would rather not have to explain how to do this to all the people viewing the calendar -- just wanting the correct month view to show up when they click the link, without having to change it each month.
I would be so grateful if anyone has some insight on this!

The fact that this question has been left unanswered for over 2 months seems a little negligent on the part of Apple Support.

In direct response to your questions, I would say that (as observed by the OP) anyone who subscribes to a published calendar can make a change to their desired view using the "Preferences" icon which is displayed underneath the mini-month calendars.
There is no way that I know of to directly or conveniently change the time-range. There may be workarounds, but I could not find a suitable solution for you.
I would recommend that you provide iCal Feedback, if you are interested in informing Apple of your desires.

Why is iCal listing the same event twice?

I am totally frustrated and exhausted. I spend hours each week at the apple store and on the tech phone line and the problems just do not go away. I use iCal and addressbook/contacts a lot and the syncing is still not working.
I had a MacBook Pro, still under warranty until 8/12, got a new Air and still have syncing problems. There is something wrong and I am so upset and so frustrated.
Was at the Corte Madera store - again - 6/22 for over 4 hours!!!!! Was there 2 days before for a genius appt and that was over an hour. Was at the store a few days before that with another genius for over an hour. Its hours every week. Am there way too long. I need to work and spend all my time trying to figure out why these things are not working.
iCal has duplicate entries. iPhone contacts has duplicate entries.
Now I'm afraid to sync or put anything new in either iCal or the contacts.
All this money, and I use iCal and the contacts alot.
I sold my MacBook Pro cause someone on the 800 number said maybe that would fix my problem. Then spent $1700 for a new Air and everything is still so messed up.
This can't be me, why am I having so many problems. I want to throw this crap thru apple's window. Sure, i'm still under the 30 days with the Air, but I sold the Pro.

Why iCloud/iCal give the wrong age on birthdays?

I'm trying to use iCal through iCloud for Birthday reminders. Previously the year was wrong on a few birthdays so I fixed that through the icloud contacts area. However, the iCal still insists on putting the person at 11 years old. I'm not sure how to fix this?
I've tried:
deleting the birthday entry
re-insterting the birthday entry
refreshing iCloud
refeshing iCal
Shutting it off
Walking Away
Coming back 24 hours later
etc.
Any ideas?

Right after writing this I found the answer.
Log in to icloud.com.
Click on you name at the top, right.
And THERE you find settings for the timezone as well…
OMG! Apple: how could you create so many places for making these Timezone settings?
To understand that there was yet another place to change it in was really on the top of what I expected.
Though, now I'm happy again!
