In to out point duration

Is there any easy way to see the duration from in to out points in the clips and timeline? I can see the clip durations if I open the info window, which is a pain, but I can't find any way to see the timeline in to out durations. It is automatic in Final Cut Pro. Surely, Premiere Pro has a way.

The above suggestions works (easiest way was holding Shift-Option (Mac) Shioft-Alt (PC) while opening Premiere), however, when I went back to adjust my Preferences, Appearence: Brightness, I discovered that the In/Out Duration is dependent on the brightness setting.
So, adjust the brightness to what you prefer, then slide the same slider a little more or less so that the In/Out Duration text gets brighter or darker.
In other words, it's not a preference reset issue or corrupted preferences, but just an adjustment issue (I guess one could argue it is a bug in the luminance of text vs. panel brightness).
Anyway, to save you re-entering your preferences, just adjust your Appearence Brightness instead.
Hope that helps everyone.
cheers

  • Set Marker Duration (In/Out Points of Marker) Keyboard Shortcut

Is there a keyboard shortcut for setting the In and Out point of a Marker?
I am editing interviews and would like to use Marker Ranges to indicate responses/topics.
So, I would like to have a keyboard shortcut as easy as "I" or "O" to set the In and Out point of a Marker Range.
The only option that I can see is to pull up the Edit Marker Box and manually adjust Duration.
This won't work because I want to set this Marker Range on the fly as I watch the clip.

That would be a nice feature.

  • Changing In and Out point on duration of Clone Stamp tool.

    Hi guys.
I'm sure topic of this question is quite confusing so here is a clearer explanation.
What I'm trying to do is to use clone stamp tool on a frame by frame basis to remove some elements. There is a lot of them so I will have many layers in Effects > Paint > Clone 1, Clone 2 etc. Each one of them is only needed for one or two frames and I was wondering if there is a quick way (shortcut for example) to set "out point" for that effect without grabbing them individually from the far right end and dragging it to the left.
I'm attaching an example of what I'm doing
I hope there is a simple solution to this as I will have hundreds of these and I would really appreciate some time saving magic.
    Thanks a lot guys.

  • How to set the out point beyond 9.95 seconds???

how to set the out point  in Motion 5 beyond 9.95 seconds???

First you need to make sure your project is long enough then you can adjust the play range (in/out). To make sure the project is long enough:
    1. From the project properties (command-J) go to the Duration field and enter a new duration.
    2. Click on the down arrow icon to the right of the current time, there is an option to show the project duration. Once set to this you can double click the number and type in a new project duration. I'd recommend setting it back to show current time when done.
    3. Of course you can also change the duration of a project when it is first created, in the project browser.
Once you're sure you have a long enough project you can adjust the in and out range.  You then use the zoom controls in the bottom of the timeline to show more of the timeline and adjust the play range as needed. There's lots more about project and play range duration adjustments in the documentation: http://help.apple.com/motion/mac/5.1/

  • Freeze up during clip capture with random change of in and out points

Having BIG problems capturing DV footage which began late last Fall. While performing a capture (assigned clips) footage would go down for a few seconds then would freeze (picture only, the audio continued) then after several seconds the picture would "catch up" and continue.
Found a solution here in the FCP forum where I had my firewire drives "ignored" by SPOTLIGHT by listing them in the privacy selection. Worked and moved on.
I have a project now where the problem has come up again. Once again during a clip capture it did what it did before - but now it ignores the assigned in point (audio but no video and almost consistently delaying it by 9 seconds into the capture) then freezes (at the assigned outpoint - sometimes) then continues to play on (audio only) then resumes (again catching up) then stops announcing a SUCCESSFUL CAPTURE. When the clip is selected to preview it plays back from the incorrect in point, freezes, then plays until the catch up - with now the audio out of sync. More craziness because now the log information now has changed: the MEDIA START & END information is not what was inputed so the DURATION TIME is now different and sometimes it adds a MARK OUT point (!?). I rarely use the CAPTURE NOW function but even trying that the footage still freezes up and goes out of sync.
I worked the SPOTLIGHT routine again with no change. Have completely optimized my system drive and external hard drives using DISKWARRIOR 4.1
I accept all the auto software up dates that come through UPDATER and see that I received a updated Quicktime version 7.5 on 13 June 08. I also noticed that I don't have CLASSIC OS 9 supported and seemed to have read here about something about FIREWIRE DRIVERS that maybe missing?
Was thinking of upgrading to 10.5 to see if that helps - but unsure about my FCP version/compatability...
So, here I sit frustrated since I have used FCP (which I LOVE) for quite a few years with great success - this is crazy! OF course, I have a project which deadline is looming!
    Any ideas?
    Much appreciation..
    Here's my computer stats:
    G4 Powerbook
    OS 10.4.11
    FCP 5.0.4
    QT 7.5
    Sony DSR-11 recorder/player
4-Firewire Drives with 20gigs of space available

So far have done a workaround to digitize my DV elements through iMovie. Not pretty. I string together the selected/import clips (in this case from interviews), assemble them in sequential order on the time line with small breaks of black in between, then export the timeline as DVCPRO/DV-NTSC quicktime file. Take that file into my FCP then segment out the clips on the time line, make each segment an independent clip so that I can name them. Not pretty but it works - miss having the logging data going through FCP log and capture.
Still waiting for any other solution to my situation - thanks!

  • Setting in / out points

    Hello all
I have several PSD sequences of all the same 12 second duration, is there a way I can set my in and out points for them all at one time ? I want them all to have the same in and out point or, will I need to add them all individually ? I have in the area of two hundred so, if there is a way to do so , it will save me this time consuming process .....
    Thanks

    Hello Al
I have the proper duration for the stills , what I am asking is if there is a way to copy the in/out points to all the stills. I want all the still PSD's to have the same in and out points .
    Thanks again

  • Setting an out point on a clip

When setting an in point on a clip and you hit "+" it appears as if you can advance the cursor to a specific time when you type in a value, but I can't seem to make it work. Does anyone know how?

hmmm, in the event bowser it does not work for me either, hitting the minus key moves the out point back, but hitting the plus key appears not to move either the CTI or either the in or out points.
A work around that uses the same idea and number of keystrokes.
Set an in point and then using the ctrl d function set the duration this allows you to create a clip of an exact duration.

  • Shortcut Key v. Toolbar Button - Set in point/set out point

I know that the shortcut keys to insert an in-point and out-point are Alt+[  and Alt+]  - but is there actually a button to add these points in Adobe After Effects CS6?   I'm terrible at remembering shortcut keys and can't believe that it doesn't appear at least somewhere on the toolbar?
    Thanks, Lisa

There is nothing in the tool bar but at the bottom of the timeline there is this:
You can use the in/out/duration/stretch panel to set in and out points numerically. It takes a bit of gettin used to so I'd suggest that you read through some of the training materials on the timeline by typing Timeline in AE's search help field and run through some of the tutorials.

  • Out of sync in/out points when exporting from FCP

When I import a sequence from FCP6 as both an XML and straight into using Send to, a lot of the clips in my timeline contain incorrect in/out points.
On some clips it is a completely different shot altogether although the durations are correct.
I have read the release notes about issues with importing sequences and the boxes are checked this end.
Has anyone been experiencing these problems too? If it helps, this only seems to be on sequences shot on the Panasonic HVX200 at: 720p25
    I would appreciate any help!

Has anyone discovered the source of this problem? I just ran into this today. This is a VERY serious problem in my opinion. The whole benefit of Color (from my point of view) is to allow high end color correction without having to re-export your clips into an external app, adding another layer of degradation to your clips, or having to deal with huge uncompressed files. This bug makes that workflow useless so I sincerely hope this is fixable.

  • Compressor Losing IN/Out Points from FCP

I recently loaded my fcp studio to a new (to me) 2x3ghz quad core intel xeon mac pro with OS 10.6.7. Running FCP 7.0.3 and Compressor 3.5.3
When I export a sequence from FCP to Compressor using the "file;send to;compressor", Compressor sees the whole sequence, ignoring the In and Out points I have set. I can't seem to figure this out. I have taken to setting in/outs and exporting a reference QT using "file; export; QT movie", then importing the file into compressor. An extra step that is really slowing me down.
    Any suggestions?

Adding a sequence to the render queue is sort of like duplicaitng it. Each time you put a sequence into the render queue, it will stay in that state (same edit, ins & outs) regardless of what you do to the original. I use this behavios to batch export several selects of the same sequence - changing the in and out and dragging a new instance to the export queue.
The thing about the export queue is that it will lose its contents when you quit FCP. If you want to be able to mark the same portion of a sequence over again, you might try putting a marker with a duration or pair of markers and use Mark to Markers - (^A) to set the same in and out each time.
    hope this helps -

  • Basic In and Out Points Questions

I captured one long continuous segment of video. Previously, I used the razor tool to chop it up and then I used the arrow tool to trim it.
I am now trying to use In and Out points to create my edits.
1.) If I understand correctly, you can only have 1 In and 1 Out point per clip, is tis correct?
2.) If so, does this mean that the captured video segment needs to be chopped into pieces in order to use In and Out points over the duration of the video?
3.) If so, what do you generally do to determine where/when to make the razor cuts?
    Thanks.

  • Duplicate in and out points

Is it possible to assign duplicate in and out points to jpegs I'm importing, making them all the same duration?

The default duration for still frames is set in FCE's preferences. Set the duration you want, THEN import the images into your project.
Changing the duration in preferences will not affect any images that have already been imported.

  • Compressor 3.02 In and Out Points Not Correct

This is a follow up to my compressor truncating movies post. I'd like to reiterate that my workflow has not changed and no new software has been added to my system. This work flow used to work like a charm, however after the most recent pro applications update this bug surfaced.
If i drag and drop any uncompressed .mov into compressor, compressor incorrectly detects the in and out points for that clip and truncates the file on output. It seems to be by the same amount every time.
    Example:
Clip 1 is a 320x240 uncompressed .mov file created and exported directly from final cut pro (exported as self-contained). the file is 1:53:32 in duration.
Drop that clip into compressor and it sets the in-point at 59:56:09 (it does this every time no matter what clip i try to compress...) and incorrectly reports the duration of the movie as 1:53:05. these in and out times and duration are found in the preview window. no in and out points are set in compressor.
this being said, the resulting output file (same size, same frame rate - no changes to timing) is truncated and the last 4 seconds and change are cropped off the end of the clip.
Any ideas? anybody else have the same kind of problem and find a fix?
I've trashed preferences to no avail... help!
    karl

right - the question is... what do we do about it?
i have been able to narrow this down to a problem with footage that's 23.98 fps only however as this is part of my 24p workflow - and because it's the only reason i'm using fcp at this point -- in essence, this problem renders the entire final cut studio useless.
    so frustrating!
who's found a workaround/fix for this?? i've been using this same workflow successfully for years and in previous versions of final cut. this problem only surfaced in the past couple of weeks.
    AAARGH!

  • Keyboard shortcuts to set in/out points?

I've been using FCP for a while, but lately have been teaching iMovie HD at our local cable access studio. I'm very impressed with what iMovie can do now, with one glaring problem - setting in/out points. I'm used to playing through my video, and when I get to a point I want I'll click "i" or "o" to set the points.
In iMovie the only way (near as I can tell) to set in/out points is by scrubbing the markers which confuses everyone and takes far too long. It's a very strange feature not to have an obvious keyboard equivalent to.
Is there any way to set in/out points via the keyboard?

There's a list of iMovie keyboard shortcuts under 'Help' on the top-line menu: it's "iMovie HD Keyboard Shortcuts".
But iMovie doesn't work on In and Out points selected from a longer clip, in the way that Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro do.
It was originally envisaged that iMovie, as a simple editor, just lets you cut and join clips, with optional Transitions, Effects, etc.
There are Crop Markers which can be used: just put your cursor beneath the blue(?) Playhead line, just under the playback window, and a pair of triangular crop markers will appear. If they don't - just hover for a moment at the extreme left just beneath the playback window.
The crop markers can then be dragged to any positions, and Apple ('Command')+K will then crop that selected video section. This can be undone with Apple+Z.
The crop markers can be dragged anywhere, or you can click on one and use the usual keyboard shortcuts of left and right cursor key to move one a frame at a time, or Shift+left/right cursor key to jump 10 frames at a time.
It wasn't originally anticipated, with iMovie, that people would import longer sections of video than needed (..unlike professional shooting and capture..) and then choose just briefer sections within those long clips. The thinking behind iMovie was "cut out and throw away", not "identify shorter section and use that, while secretly retaining full duration of original clip".
It's only with the current iMovie 5/HD that the background handling of clips now approaches FCE and FCP, giving reliable "non-destructive trimming", so that crop markers can be used to set 'wanted' sections, and other sections remain behind invisibly, in a robust Trash can, "..just in case".
You can 'Split video at Playhead' (Apple+T) ..which is what I generally use for editing, but you have to manually drag crop markers to where you want them. It's a historical thing.
You're really asking for a shortcut to set a crop marker to the Playhead position. Why not use Feedback to ask for one in the next version?
But sorry; I don't know of any keyboard shortcuts to do what you want.
    Maybe someone else does, though..

  • Serial Composition with In/Out points

I`ve asked that question a while back in the prerelease forum but did not made any progress since then so one more try.
I would like to play a series of videos. For those videos i want to specify individual in and out points.
So the first video should start at 0.30 and have a duration of 40 sec for example.
So basically i want to create a playlist of media elements with in points and out points. The whole thing should look like it`s one video.
So there should be one seek bar that scrubs over all video elements and gives me the correct video...
Is this a supported scenario? If not will it be supported? If it`s already supported any help in getting me started would be welcome :-)
    Thanks
    Benjamin

This is on our feature roadmap as subclip support, slated for inclusion in the Nov/Dec/Jan time frame.
