In transfering my favorites to firefox my in file import is not highlighted

I'm trying to import my favorites from IE and the help instructions tell me to go to the file menu and click on import. The import word is not highlighted and I don't know what I not need to do to get it highlighted so I can click on it to continue.

A possible cause is that you run Firefox in permanent [[Private Browsing]] mode.
* You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
* To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
* Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

  • File Import did not retrieve Explorer favorites on same laptop.

I changed to firefox from explorer on same computer. the download asked to import Explorer info. Not seeing IE under bookmarks, did help search. Followed firefox directions - went to File, then Import, etc. Now under Bookmarks i find the IE link but favorites do not appear as an option.

The option to import can be disabled if you are in private browsing mode. To stop Firefox opening in private browsing mode do this:
    # Open the Options window and go to the Privacy panel
    # Change the setting "Firefox will" to "Remember history", alternatively if you set it to "Use custom settings for history", de-select the setting "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

  • When viewing the applications tab of my firefox preferences, PDF file formats are not in the list of possible formatts, how do I add it so that I can open PDF file in my browser?

I am running OSX 10.5.8 currently, and have followed all of the tips and advice on the help sites (IE. uninstalling, installing pluggins, programs like adobe, and reinstalling firefox). I tried deleting and resetting the mimetypes.rdf file and the pluginreg.dat files. I have noticed that when you open the FF preferences window, and look at applications, there is no Portable Document Format file type listed. How do I fix this?

Install '''PDFescape''' extension from the FF add-on gallery. I think it may help to your problem

  • I can't transfer all of my IE Favorites to Firefox Bookmarks.

During the Firefox installation, I chose the option to transfer IE Favorites into Firefox Bookmarks. But only the first 39 transferred, and the remaining 70 did not. Is there a limit on how many Bookmarks you can have on Firefox? I checked Firefox help articles but couldn't find anything that addresses this problem. Thank you for any help you can give me. :)

I'm not aware of a limit (and if there is, it's way higher than 39), but because Firefox is reading the shortcuts from the Windows Favorites folder on disk, sometimes it glitches, maybe for reasons related to the file name.
As a Plan B, you can use a two-step process of exporting a Firefox-compatible HTML file from IE and then importing that into Firefox. These articles have the steps for the respective browsers:
    * [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/add-view-organize-favorites#ie=ie-8 Add to, view, and organize favorites - Microsoft Windows Help] -- see the "Export and import" section
    * [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]]
You can use the Library dialog to move the imported bookmarks up to the main menu level. To open that dialog, you can use:
    * Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks
    * Ctrl+Shift+b
    Does it work?

  • Import data from another browser - Only few IE9 favorites get transfered to bookmarks. HTML solution - HTML file all favorites correct, but same result

Win7 / IE9: First time use. Example: One favorites folder has 4 HTML entries - only 2 get transferred. Some have none transfered - folder empty. Others have random correct + some missing.

    Monday Nght
I can see complete IE9 Favorites HTML list in HTML file on Desktop with Firefox -> New Tab -> Open File.-> Open
In desktop HTML file, there are 37 IE9 folders with no more than nesting 3 deep in any one top folder. These are all correct wrt IE9 favorites.
All top folders + deepest nests are copied to FF ok. Contents random. Copied contents work ok
7 HTML web sites not allocated to IE9 top folders are also copied <- these 7 copy to FF and work ok
Example: First folder in IE9 list has no nesting., IE9 has 4 entries - Firefox has only 2. when either method of copying is used.
BTW - please advise how I can delete whole Bookmark list in Firefox in one keystroke to be able to retry with a clean Bookmark list
I am going to uninstall Firefox and start again with a clean copy and use HTML method only to try to transfer IE( files. I will report result.
BTW, I am in UK on UK time - hence delays in replying - need to sleep sometimes!!!!!
    Tuesday Evening
    Hi
I uninstalled Firefox. Re installed and loaded IE9 favorites from HTML file.
    All seem copied correctly
First time I started by using the "import data from another browser". Partial copied.
Then I tried "Import from HTML file" without deleting whatever favorites had been copied. Still partial copied.
    All seems well.

  • Transferring appleloops favorites

    Transferring Appleloops Favorites
    Hi there.
I've recently updated my Macbook from Leopard to Snow Leopard and updated Logic Pro from Version 8 to 9.
I had spent many hours auditioning and selecting Appleloops as Favorites by checking the boxes on the RHS of the Appleloops audition pane in Media on the Arrange page. After the update to Logic 9 the Appleloops are still there but my selection of favourites has gone. I assumed they would be stored in my Logic preferences...so
I went back into Time Machine and copied the Logic 8 preferences file "com.apple.pro.plist" file from before the migration and update, then trashed the current preference file and placed the old preferences file in the new library preferences folder.
It should have transferred my old Appleloop favorites from Logic 8 across to Logic 9 but it didn't. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Did you use the Export to HTML feature described in this article: [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]?
When you import that file into your new Firefox ([[Import Bookmarks from an HTML file]]), the Imported from Chrome folder should be in there, but it may be buried one or two levels deep within a new Imported Bookmarks folder, possibly on the Bookmarks Menu, and possibly in the Unsorted Bookmarks section.
The easiest way to explore and reorganize among folders and sections is to use the Library dialog. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+b
    * Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks
    Any luck tracking it down?

  • Have transfered my favorites from IE9 can I put them in my bookmarks

i have transferred my favorites but have some that I want to put in my bookmarks instead of keeping them in the IE transfer. So would like to know hoe to put them in the bookmark place.

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.

  • My favorites have been automatically imported from IE into Firefox, however I am unable to "organize" my favorites in Firefox. What should I do?

My Favorites were automatically imported from Internet Explorer when I started with Firefox, however I am unable to "organize" or otherwise work with or delete any Favorites in Firefox. When I click on "Organize Favorites" only a blank pop-up screen comes up. Please advise as to what I need to do to be able to organize and delete Favorites within Firefox.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

In the Bookmarks Manager (Library) there is a toolbar with the Back and Forward button and three other buttons (Organize, Views, Import & Backup).
    * The first (gear) button is the Organize button with basic edit menu items for bookmarks
    * The second button is the Views button that allows to change the sort order for viewing purposes (doesn't sort permanently).
    * The third (star) button is the Import & Backup button that allows to backup and restore a JSON backup and import and export an HTML backup and import bookmarks from other browsers.
Hover each button to see the tooltip or click each of them to see what they do.

  • Bought laptop only has Firefox. How to import IE-Favorites from my USB?

Bought a used laptop that only has Firefox Version 3.6.12. How do I import IE-Favorites from my USB stick?

Firefox can't directly import IE Favorites, you need to '''export''' in HTML format and then '''import''' that file into Firefox.
    In IE: <br />
File > Import/Export - Export to HTML file
    ''then in Firefox:'' <br />
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file

  • I have imported from Microsoft Internet Explorer favorites, cookies, history and they are not available after importing under the Bookmarks tab. How do I find the import of favorites in firefox?

When importing from Microsoft Internet Explorer I have successfully completed and clicked on finish. I am not finding my favorites under the Bookmarks tab. I have shut down Firefox and and restarted the browser and still not finding favorites. I also restarted the computer still not finding favorites imported from Microsoft Internet Explorer. How can I find the data imported from Microsoft Internet Explorer?

You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File
