In updating FF, message says to restart to complete previous upgrade. I reboot, with same message. Attempted to uninstall. Same message, even in Safe Mode.
I tried to update Firefox and repeatedly get this message: "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now? " If I click no, nothing happens. If I click yes, it reboots, and I get the same message all over again. I have tried to uninstall the program and get the same message, even in Safe Mode. I tried to start with a previous system configuration, but the computer would not give me any previous configuration dates. I am using XP, and I deleted Internet Explorer, so I cannot access the Internet on that computer. I have tried to install the update by downloading the upgrade on a different computer and transfer it on a flash drive, but I got the same results. If I go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, it says I have Firefox Version 13.0.1. For approximately 6 months previous to this incident, I have been getting a message when I load Firefox, that says that it could not install an attempted update. If I clicked okay, at least it would still run the old version. Now it won't even do that.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Yesterday I upgraded to Firefox 5.0.1. My system is Win7 64-bit. The program asked me to restart to complete upgrade; however, even after restart I continue to get the same message. Thanks for your reply. I found that article while troubleshooting; however, those files do not exist. In other words, when I search for %APPDATA%, it takes me to a "roaming" folder, but there is no file named qpidata...
So, I am in a circular issue where I am prompted to restart windows to "finish upgrade" but even after restart, I continue to get the same "restart windows to finish..." message.
Anything else I should try? -

Even when I try to restore 4.0, I get the same message, No matter how many times I restart, I get the same message. The upshot: I no longer can use Firefox.
Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click firefox.exe: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

I have downloaded the latest Security Update from the Apps store, TWICe and neither time has it taken when installing. I then kept clicking and found a version specific to Mountain Lion, which I downloaded. That didn;t take on installation either, not even in Safe Mode. I have a VERY small amount of GB's per month (10 GB) and am increasingly frustrated with having tod ownload stuff that doesn't seem to work. AND the #1 hovering on the App symbol in the dock drives me nuts. Especially after downloading the same update now THREE TIMES?! Can anyon e help me to understand what's going on, or indeed how to make this thing work?

Using AppStore twice: "unknown error"
I thought it might be because the AppStore installation didn't have access to my system keychain for administrator privileges, so I downloading manually, opened the DMG and ran the installer. I got the prompt for my password and the installer went almost to the end, including the "optimizing" step, but still same result:

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have noticed many more application crashes (on launch, on quit or at random times), spinning beachballs and use of the Force Quit hotkeys. Maybe Apple should pay more attention to its computer business instead of playing in the fashion biz. -
No programs will run even finder after an update even in safe mode
I tried installing the newest update in my macbook pro and after my comp ran out of battery no programs including finder will run even in safe mode. I get and error message that says finder quit unexpectedly over and over again.

I just updated itunes to 11.1.3 on my laptop and now it won't open. It does not respond to trying "safe mode" either. Anyone have an idea as to what to do?
I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

Some Firefox issues can be resolved by downloading a new Firefox installer from Mozilla.com, then closing Firefox, deleting the Firefox application folder (program files) and reinstalling Firefox. If this does not help, or if you would rather completely remove Firefox and start over instead of completing all the troubleshooting steps, follow these steps:
1. Download the latest official version of Firefox from Mozilla.com.
* You should avoid unofficial download sites that bundle Firefox with other software such as the Google Toolbar.
2. If you wish to retain your current profile, you should make a backup copy of it. See Backing up your information for instructions.
3. Uninstall Firefox and make sure you remove the Firefox application (program) folder and your Firefox personal data (user data and settings) - see Uninstalling Firefox for instructions.

Windows 8.1 Outlook 2010 won't open even in safe mode after 4/5/2014 update
There was an update today, 4/5/2014 for Windows 8.1. I was able to open Outlook 2010 prior to update. Ever since the update, I cannot open Outlook 2010, not even in Safe Mode. I need help!!!

Make sure there's no Outlook process in Task Manager prior to you open it.
Then we can check if it can start properly in Clean Boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with Outlook:

I tried to update Firefox. Everything went well until restarting computer. Result was nothing....got the same as I had before. Each time I tried to open Firefox, I got message to restart computer to complete installation of update. This goes on over and over. I have tried to uninstall Firefox using Control Panel and I get same results.....a message to restart the computer and this repeats itself also.
You can try to boot the computer in Safe mode (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that allows to remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) if you can't uninstall Firefox or remove/rename that folder in regular mode.

I have a Windows 2003 Server 64-Bit, and when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 now it won't run, it keeps saying to restart the computer to complete the installation, but I've restarted theserver 4 times, and I still can't use it.
I ended up putting it in DFU mode. It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w. I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras. -
