In visual studio 2012 coded Ui test is not entering the URL

Hi,
When i try to run the recorded script it is opening the new tab but it is not entering the new URL in to tab. It is showing test has failed due to some stack trace error. I am new to coded UI test am learning it. Is it timing error i need to place some sleep
time in between them?
Thanks
Prasanth
Prasanth

Hi Prasanth,
Generally, the coded UI test is used to verify that the whole application, including its user interface, is functioning correctly. Coded UI Tests are particularly useful where there is validation or other logic in the user interface, for example in a web
page. They are also frequently used to automate an existing manual test.
In other words, we can use coded UI test to verify the UI control instead of verifying the URL.
For more information:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd286726(v=vs.110).aspx
However, if you want to record script it is opening the new tab and then entering the new URL in to tab, I suggest you can use the Web Performance test to record and verify the request works correctly.

  • Problem installing Visual Studio 2012 Professional, "security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object"

    I'm trying to install Visual Studio 2012 Professional edition on my work laptop, Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1. I have limited admin rights and should be able to install
    programs on this laptop but when I try to install VS 2012, I get the following error message:
    "This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object."
    Any idea why this is happening?

    Hi,
    You must have administrator credentials to install Visual Studio. However, you do not have to have these credentials to use Visual Studio after it is installed.
    More information you can refer to:

    Please install the Visual Studio 2012 as the administrator.

  • Unable to install Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012

    I have tried and tried to get the templates to show up in Visual Studio. I have tried all the suggestions that could be found from others in 2013. I am down to the "Command Report.NoOp" message when I click on "Sql Server Data Tools for Visual
    Studio 2012", under Sql Server 2012 menu.
    Can anyone help me get rid of this error message? I can't tell how many times I have uninstalled and reinstalled or repaired 2012 software. I believe I finally have the correct SSDTSetup.exe file and SSDTBI_VS2012_x86.exe file. The versions are 11.0.3402.0
    and 11.1.31203.1.
    I have spent 3 days trying to get this working so I can create some SSIS projects. Please someone help me.....
    thanks,

    Shawn M Austin

    Hi Shavona,
    According to your description, we need to verify if the error message is “Command "Report.NoOp" is not valid” when you install Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012.
     If yes, it seems that the BI Templates are not installed properly. Please ensure that you have selected “Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2012” instead of “Add features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2012” when installing the
    update.

    Hi,
    According to your description, it seems like VS itself problem, you can try to repair this program through Control Panel for test. If no use, it would be better to post your question at VS forum for further assistance.

  • "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." in Visual Studio 2012 Entity Framework Model-First

    Hello
    We're trying to use a Model-First with Entity Framework in Visual Studio, targeting an Oracle XE 11g installation.
    No matter from what angle we're approaching the issue, we always end up with an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in Visual Studio:
    First way:
    - Add new ADO.NET Entity Framework Model to a .NET Framework 4.5 project
    - Empty model
    - Add some entities and associations
    - Set Database Generation Workflow to "Generate Oracle Via T4 (TPT).xaml"
    - Set DDL Generation Template to "SSDLToOracle.tt"
    - Generate Database From Model
    - VS asks for DB connection ==> Click "New Connection"
    - Enter the connection properties to the Oracle XE database. "Test Connection" tells me the connection is okay.
    - Click OK. Visual Studio shows the following error message:
    (here's the image if it's not visible: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35614983/vs2012_oracle_ef_error.png)
    We also tried to generate the model in VS2010 and then manually transform it to an EF5 / VS2012 model. At the "Generate Database from Model" step, the same error appeared.
    We also tried to generate the model from database (Database-First approach). Same error.
    My configuration:
    - Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    - Installed Oracle client: ODTwithODAC1120320_32bit.zip, so the version is 11.2.0.3.20
    - Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 (11.0.60610.01)
    Thanks for any hints!
    EDIT: I just read that ODP.NET doesn't seem to support Entity Framework 5, so I tried a new project with Entity Framework 4.1, but I get the same errors.
    EDIT 2: On a 32-bit Windows 7 virtual machine, everything works fine. Seems the problem is only there on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine.

    Sorry for the delay on this one. Let me know if you are still seeing this and I will see if we can get more diagnostic info somehow.
    That error is basically an exception fault. It means a bug or a misconfiguration of Oracle Developer Tools. Can you try to reinstall ODT and see if you notice any unusual errors during install.. and see if a reinstall fixes the problem?

  • Visual Studio 2012 - Source Not Available After Pressing Pause While Debugging

    Hi,
    In Visual Studio 2008, when we'd open a dialog in our application (Native C++, 64-bit) and pressed 'Pause', the debugger would automatically go to the location of the dialog in the code and the call stack would show the series of calls to arrive
    at the current position.
    Now that we've upgraded to Visual Studio 2012, this functionality is lost.  When we press 'Pause', a 'Source Not Available' tab will appear.  The call stack shows the following:
    ntdll.dll!ZwWaitForSingleObject()
    KernalBase.dll!WaitForSingleObjectEx()
    <several lines of nvoglv64.dll>
    kernel32.dll!BaseThreadInitThunk()
    ntdll.dll!RtlUserThreadStart()
    At first we thought it was a symbol issue since none of the Windows-related dlls had pdbs. None of our workstations are connected to the Internet so I used symchk to download all the required symbols.  Despite all of the symbols now being loaded, the
    debugger still doesn't show the actual call stack into our code.
    Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be set? Or are we out of luck since our machines are never online?
    Any thoughts are apprecated.
    Thanks.
    Visual Studio Premium 2012 (11.0.60610.01 Update 3)

    Hi,
    Welcome to MSDN.
    In Visual Studio 2008, when we'd open a dialog in our application (Native C++, 64-bit) and pressed 'Pause', the debugger would automatically go to the location
    of the dialog in the code and the call stack would show the series of calls to arrive at the current position.
    Now that we've upgraded to Visual Studio 2012, this functionality is lost.  When we press 'Pause', a 'Source Not Available' tab will appear.  The
    call stack shows the following:
    ntdll.dll!ZwWaitForSingleObject()
    KernalBase.dll!WaitForSingleObjectEx()
    <several lines of nvoglv64.dll>
    kernel32.dll!BaseThreadInitThunk()
    ntdll.dll!RtlUserThreadStart()
    According to these words above, do you mean clicking “Break All” as following image?
    The error means that our project does not contain source code for the code that we are trying to view, you could refer to
    this link for more information.
    In order to solve this issue, you could debug it in another machine which can download symbols form Symbol Servers, then copy that
    symbols to your machine to test.
    You could change the Symbols setting of the Visual Studio of the other machine as following image:
    Then copy the symbols in that directory to your machine, and change the Symbols settings to your local directory to test.
    Regards.

  • Add-in for Access 2010/2013 with Visual Studio 2012 (2013 Preview)

    Hello!
    Am i right: Microsoft wants to kill Access in favor of Azure/SQL stuff?
    I was unable to find any Projects in Visual Studio 2012/2013 to create an Addon for Access 2010 or 2013 (only Word, Excel, Outlook).
    There is even no Microsoft.Office.Tools.Access.ApplicationFactory
    to install add-in to Access App.
    Any solutions for VS 2012?
    Or i should use outdated Shared Add-in with VS 2010?
    Thank you!

    Sorry Donald M from Microsoft,
    You need to rethink that response.  IDTExtensibility2 is an outdated Office 2003 technology.
    Everything EXCEPT the ThisAddIn.designer.cs reference to ApplicationFactory _factory compiles when you switch references in another Office application's VSTO project template to msaccess and dao libraries.  Even the Access icon shows up in Visual
    Studio 2013.  The only reason a Ribbon.xml project will not load into Access is that Microsoft hasn't provided the Microsoft.Office.Tools.Access DLL for it.  If you leave the Factory reference pointing to global::Microsoft.Office.Tools.Factory,
    the add-in compiles but will not load.
    MICROSOFT: Please provide us the missing Factories for MSAccess and OneNote.

  • Move a Excel 2010 Dokument Addin Project (Visual Studio 2012) to another devleopment machine with Visual Studio 2012 , but Office 2013

    Hi
    we do have the following situation
    on computer A there is a Excel Document Addin development project , Visual Studio 2012, Office 2010 installed. All works fine.
    we would like to bring the project to another machine with Visual Studio 2012, but Office 2013 installed.
    Visual Studio can not build the project. It says that the application is not installed on the machine (though Excel 2013 is installed , but not Excel 2010) It seems to have a problem with the
    vbproj.
    In other forums I found a hint that "Hostpackage = ..} needs to be set accordingly in the vbproj. I created then a "empty Excel-Addin project" under Visual Studio , looked at
    the Hostpackage entry, put that into the vbproj of "problem project. It still does not work.
    It would be great if anyone could help.
    Thomas

    Hello Eugene
    Problem is that it says that projectboard (the name of the main project) can not be loaded. All other projects in the solution can be loaded. Strange thing is , now that I try to create a empty excel Project it says that according to Excel security settings
    it can not be generated !?
    I opened then Excel and set all Trust Center settings to "Default" - but no effect. I really have no idea what is wrong ..!?

  • SQL Server Database Connectivity with Visual Studio 2012 - Help Needed

    Hello,
    I am having Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Developer 4.0 installed on my system with Windows 8 - 64bit
    I want to shift a VS project with an SQL database connectivity to another new Laptop (above mentioned) ...
    I have the project opened in VS without bieng connected to the database..
    I have a backup file of the database (which needs to be restored to a new created database on SQL Developer)
    The problem:
    I am unable to create a server connection in SQL Developer which will allow me to create a new database followed by the recovery from backup file.
    I am getting the following error message when I try to create a connection:
    Status: Faliure - IO error: The network adapter could not establish a connection
    Please help me in setting up a server connection and adding a new sql database

    The error message seemed unfamiliar to me and since I had never heard of SQL Developer before, I went to Google. Google might be pulling my legs, but it appears that SQL Developer is related to Oracle. This forum is devoted to SQL Server, so you are in the
    wrong place.
    Try finding a forum for SQL Developer.

  • Visual studio 2012 the name "initializeControl" does not exist in the namespace in visual WebPart

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to create a visual webpart in SharePoint 2013 using Visual Studio 2012 and I am seeing that the file ascx.g.cs
    is missing and i have this error in file ascx.cs : the name "initializeControl" does not exist in the namespace.
    And like i said i use VS2012 Ultimate
    Can anyone Help me please!!!
    thanks.

    In most scenarios this is caused by some error in code preventing Visual Studio from generating the designer file. You could try to undo the latest changes and see whether the item is being generated or not. Additionally you could try checking if the custom
    tool is still associated with the Visual Web Part SPI in the Properties Window.

    Cor,
    What I am stating is this is a solution using the Web Site Project instead of a
    Web Application Project.
    Web Site projects do not require Designer.vb files, Web Application Projects add Designer.vb files in the solution.
    Background: I have been hired to support a very successful e-commerce site that was built by a 3rd party vendor (I had no input on the contract or specification, because I would have went with
    MVC).  The site works 100% correctly, however from my 2003 - 2015 experience with Visual Studio and Web Development being in Web Forms and MVC I have always built ASP.NET Solutions using the Web Application Project Templates, which compiles the code down
    to .dlls.
    A Web Site project does not compile the code, but simply uses the .vb files and they have to be migrated to the server with the .aspx files. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd547590%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
    Currently the only way I can debug this Solution is to attach to the w3wp.exe process running locally on my work station.
    The Solution is comprised of two Web Sites, which I cannot get it to compile because of the following errors -
     'webServerControlName' is not a member of '(Protected Code Behind Class Name)'  I am reaching out to the MSDN community to see if anyone has experienced this issue with
    Web Site Projects.
    I hope that clears up the Project Type question.

  • Using SSDT-BI in Visual Studio 2012 to create and maintain SSRS, SSAS, SSIS in SQL Server 2008 R2

    Hi,   My management is wanting all the developers (database and .net) to upgrade from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2012.  We are currently using SQL Server 2008 R2 for our data warehouse and using Business Intelligence (SSIS,
    SSAS, and SSRS) to maintain it.  Our database team is also wanting to create database projects and include that in our Team Foundation Server 2010 code repository along with our BI code.  From what I've been able to research googling the
    internet is there are two products available SSDT and SSDT-BI which can be installed into VS2012, but it appears that only SSDT for database projects is the only thing that will work until we someday upgrade to SQL Server 2012.  Most of the information
    I've found on the internet regarding this subject is over a year old and a lot can change in a year.  So my questions are can we install VS2012 and both SSDT and SSDT-BI to create and maintain the SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS currently in our SQL Server 2008
    R2 database?  If we can install these three items, VS2012 and the two SSDTs, and are able to create new BI and maintain our current BI in our SS2008R2 database then what issues might we have with our TFS2010 code repository?  We prefer
    to use only VS2012 or VS2008 but not both at the same time.  If we can't do everything we are currently doing in VS2008 with our SS2008R2 database by switching to VS2012 and the two SSDTs then we will stay with VS2008 until we someday upgrade
    to SS2012.  Please advise and thank you.  James M.

    I'm going to move this to the SSAS blog, where most SSDT-BI questions are answered (this forum mainly answers SSDT questions). Someone there may be able to give you better information but here's what I know:
    - I think you'll only need to install SSDT-BI since you're using SSIS, SSAS and SSRS. SSDT is the database tooling which it sounds like you wouldn't use, and it's actually built into VS2012 in any case.
    - SSIS projects don't work with earlier versions of SQL Server, but SSAS and SSRS do. Details are on
    this blog post. I don't have enough knowledge to suggest workarounds or best practices for handling the SSIS issue. Perhaps you could keep 2 projects, or 2 branches of the same project (one for 2012, one for 2008) if that's possible? I think your BIDS projects
    will be upgraded to SSDT-BI compatible projects so it's work checking them into source control, upgrading, then comparing to understand what's changed. You might be able to keep the same overall source and just change a few settings in the different branches?
    Hopefully someone on the SSAS forum can help give you more information and suggestions.
