In windows 7, firefox 4.0.1, How do you close tabs so they don't open every time I open firefox?
Can't close tabs so they don't open every time I open Firefox.
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

How do I block a popup? I allowed this popup to open once. Now I have set the popup blocker to block all sites but this popup still opens every time I open Firefox and sometimes (usually) when I open a new tab.
I Have stopped and restarted Firefox multiple times.
I have rebooted the computer.
I have set the tools/options/content/block pop-up windows/exceptions to block all sites (no exceptions).
I have no other issues with Firefox.
I have Adblock plus (with (1) subscription) installed
I am currently using Firefox version 4.0 on Windows7 Ultimate.Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
(1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
(2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
(3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
(4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
Hopefully that cures it. -

How do I stop one extra tab from opening every time I start Firefox?
Every time I open Firefox, my Yahoo homepage opens, but an additional page also opens which has a variety of website thumbnails and nothing else on that page.
In my Options, I have ONLY www.yahoo.com selected as my homepage, so only ONE page should be opening every time I start Firefox.
However, no matter what I do, this second page continues to open every time. It's very irritating, as half the time I've already begun to enter data into my homepage, then the second page pops up and switches to that and I'm typing on that page.
Please advise.@jscher2000
Thank you!! That fixed the problem. The only add-ons I have are for my anti-virus software WebRoot, but somehow I must have installed Speed Dial without realizing it.
That fixed the problem. Greatly appreciated!! -

Firefox has apparently downloaded an update which asks me if i want to install every time I open it, but every time i click yes it fails saying I have another firefox open but I don't!! no attempts to install the update have worked, i've tried a few. What can be done or how can I ensure all firefox's are shut??You can try "Reset Download Actions": http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions
You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window. -
How do i fixed my problem with my ipad apps every time i open that apps it takes 10min. to play the games ant its getting LOST MODE and the ipad system is crashing
We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
Have you tried closing all apps via the iPad's multitasking bar and then doing a soft-reset and seeing that helps ? To close all apps :
iOS 7: double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag each app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
iOS 6 and below : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
How do I stop the Welcome to Firefox tab from opening every time I open Firefox?
I have read two ways to try and stop this in the help but they either did not apply or I could not do what they suggest.
Every time I open Firefox of late the Welcome to fire fox tab opens along with my home page. It is only a small annoyance to turn it off each time but I would like to stop it from happening. What can I do?
I found another where they say to delete something out of the about.config but I was not able to delete the line. I could not find how to delete a line out of the about config. You can check the home page setting:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.
There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software. -
Every time I open iPhoto on my iMac a small black window appears in the upper right of my desk top and covers everything behind it, including iPhoto. The window says "Blocked Plug-In". I cannot move it, delete it, force quit it, etc. I have quit iPhoto, but the black window remains. I have restarted and shut down the computer, but when I open iPhoto the black window comes back. I have right and left clicked on the black window, but I cannot get rid of it. How do I stop the black window from appearing on my screen?
No problem

Every time I open FF, the "Getting Started with Mozilla Firefox" tab opens. I have checked and it's not in my homepage list.
If I open any additional windows, it doesn't open.
But, once I close all of them and reopen it again, the tab opens.
I've had a similar problem with a couple addons (ietab) doing the same thing.about:config is typed into the address bar as if you were going to a web page.
It will popup a message warning you that you are messing with important stuff.
Just agree. -
When I installed Firefox on my iMac, a dialog box appeared telling me to drag the Firefox logo into the Applications folder, which I did. Firefox works fine, but every time I open it this dialog box opens before Firefox does, and I have to close it out. This is irritating. How can I stop it from opening again?
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

Every time I open Firefox to search for something - it automatically opens a second tab and forces me to that tab. On the second tab is the Google account login. I now avoid using Firefox if I can because I cannot shut this off.
Does this also happen in Safe Mode? You can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Also, on the General tab in Firefox preferences, what are "When Firefox starts" and "Home Page" set to? -
Just like 9.9/10 people out here in the real world, I use Adobe Reader to read pdf files and never (ever) use the Tool Pane for anything.
How do I permanently disable it from showing up, instead of having to close it *each & every time* I open a pdf document? The majority of people don't want thins thing covering up the page they are trying to read.Okay, seems I've stumbled upon an ugly workaround but it works for me. I'm using Windows 8.1. Go to the install directory, i.e." C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroApp\ENU". Create a new subfolder (I used "Disabled"). Move 3 files from the "ENU" folder into the new "Disabled" folder: AppCenter_R.aapp & Home.aapp & Viewer.aapp. Open a PDF and no more Tool Pane! I originally moved just the "Viewer" file but if you clicked on "Home" or "Tools" on the toolbar you couldn't go back to the "Document." Moving all 3 files takes care of that issue. Like a lot of people I don't and won't ever use any of the tools. I just want a reader. Let me know if this works for you.

The first run page keeps opening every time I open my home page, how do I turn it off?
When I first downloaded FF 4 on my netbook I got the first run, welcome to FF 4 screen. As usual. But it keeps coming back. Every time I open FF it opens the welcome screen in the first tab and in the second tab is my home screen.
If FF is already open and I want to open my home screen in another tab, it simultaneously the welcome screen in one tab and my home screen in another.
I will not upgrade the rest of my machines to either FF4 or 5 until this is fixed.A couple of possible causes, you have multiple home pages set, or the preferences file can not be updated. For details on both of those, see [[Firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]].

How to disable Plugin Check from opening every time browser opens
Every time I open firefox, "plugin check" opens. Even after I installed and updated all plugins, the plugin-check appears whenever firefox opens. After updating all the plugins I restarted my pc, reset the browser and checked to make sure that my home page has not been changed the firefox plugin change, disabled all my plugins and even tried blocking the website via HOSTS.
I am fully capable of checking to see if my browser and plugins are up-to-date and I don't appreciate the unnecessary waste of time with this plugin-check running every single time the browser opens. Similar to updates, this should be an OPTIONAL check not FORCED and there should be a simple way to disable it without having the browser open an extra blank tab or requiring the user to edit the about:config to work around it.
Website: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/Hello defuz2013, go to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] find '''plugins.update.url''' and change it the value to an empty string.
also change the '''plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin''' to TRUE
then check firefox again
thank you

Editable Regions Across Multiple Pages
Is it possible to create an editable region in a template that when edited would update all the pages within a website? For example, I am working on a website for a symphony. They want their upcoming events listed on the sidebar of each page and want
