In XP Mode on Windows 7, after installing application as like I would normally on an actual XP system, application will not start in windows XP mode itself.

Just did a clean install of windows 7.  I then downloaded windows XP mode and Windows Virtual Mode.  Everything ran flawlessly and everything is updated.  I needed to Install a program called Dentrix 10.5 which can only be installed on Windows
XP for numerous reasons and one including it needing to use Microsoft .NET 1.0.  I installed this program on Windows XP Mode as I would as if I were installing it with a computer with windows XP.  The Install of the program went fine and completed.
Still being in Windows XP Mode I wanted to see how it would run.  I hit Start Menu, All Programs, Startup Programs, and clicked on the Dentrix Application.  Once I clicked it the time glass on the  mouse was there for a few seconds and
then went away without the application starting up at all.  One thing that I'm thinking is why after I clicked Start Menu, All programs, is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?  Any Ideas how
to get the program to run?  Like I said, I am trying to run the program in Windows XP Mode and not Windows 7 as I have found many Q's and A's on only how to do that.  Also this is the second application which I downloaded and the first being Microsoft
Security Essentials so I know I don't have some virus from keeping from opening the Dentrix Application.  Incase you are wondering the Microsoft Security Essentials opens and runs fine in Windows XP Mode.  So Pretty Much My Main question is: Why
my application not starting up in Windows XP Mode?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Once I clicked it the time glass on the mouse was there for a few seconds and then went away without the application starting up at all.
A couple times a week I open Dentrix 11.0 in a virtual machine on Windows 7. I experience the same thing almost every time I open the VM. I must first get Windows to "reconnect" my network for me. Do this by opening Start | My Computer, and
double-click on the mapped network drive leading to the Dentrix data. After I can see the Dentrix data drive, Dentrix will be able to read it too and will open correctly.
In Dentrix, seeing nothing (or briefly seeing a hourglass and then seeing nothing) is a classic sign that either:
- The database files are marked as Read Only
- The program cannot access the data files (probably the folder it is pointed to does not contain any data).
- Or possibly the database path does not point to the right location where the data files are located
Open the folder where you installed the program files of Dentrix (probably c:\program files\dentrix\) and double-click to run EP.EXE. The database path will be revealed. You can "Browse" to the correct location, and "OK" through the dialog to
close them. Then try opening Dentrix again.
Should that not work, open Start | My Computer, and try to open the path (starting with the drive letter, then the folder structure you saw in EP.EXE).
By the way, if your path uses UNC (starting with two back-slashes and then the computer name of the server), you'll need to map a network drive and replace your path with a mapped drive path. (Map a drive in Start | My Computer | Tools | Map Network
Drive). Dentrix really doesn't like UNC paths.
Dentrix 10.5 can only be installed on Windows XP
Microsoft .NET 1.0
Just FYI, Microsoft .Net Framework 1.0 is required only for the "Time Clock" feature of Dentrix. Windows 7 already has .NET Framework features up to version 3.5 built in, and Time Clock (in my experience) works great under Windows 7 without installing
.NET 1.0.
Have you tried installing directly in Windows 7? I have a specific reason why I don't (I have a newer version of Dentrix installed on my Win 7 machine, and use the VM to go back to an older database occasionally - so I can't mix two different program versions
on the same machine). If you were to try installing this program under Windows 7 directly, Dentrix will launch the Microsoft .NET Framework install after the Dentrix install is completed. Just cancel out at that point (Windows will probably give you an "incompatibility"
error message anyway before allowing the install to go through) and I believe you can run it under Windows 7. That might eliminate the networking-through-the-VM issue. So, if you have no other reason not to install Dentrix on your Windows 7 machine directly,
I'd try it. You might be surprised and if it works, you'd save yourself some headache with connecting the to network through the virual machine.
Is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?
During the installation, on the Select Program Folder screen, you must have clicked the "Startup" option under Existing Folders. By default, "Dentrix" will be typed into the box at the top. If you simply clicked Next, it would have gone
to the correct location. The screen is a little confusing, because something in the list will be highlighted by default, but what is typed into the box at the top will actually be used.

    Hej!
Organiziser in Photoshop Elements 9 will not start in Windows 8.1. Inkompartibelt programs.
    What to do?

Ok, I had many problems with the installation, but after three attempts I've got it working. This might work with a previously failed installation - but there are other guides in the forum to get this position -thanks also to the many threads on the this - which pointed me in the right direction
Previously I'd had issues with Error 1935, (on Shared Technologies), Blue screens due to clbudf.sys from Cyberlink Instant burn which blue screened (thread abort exception) this install as also iTunes. (I haven't installed this now...
    My scenario. Win 7 (clean) -> Win 8 -> Win 8.1
After setting up the setting up the system.
I ensured the following : (although begrudingly) so I could do a system restore if needed.
    -I disabled Anitvirus & Firewall
    -enabled Volume Shadow Copy Service
I then ensured I had downloaded Adobe Application Manager 8.0 (read this may help) - I installed - but I did not run it as I believe it updates to Adobe CC Manager( from previous attempts)
i also downloaded and installed the 32 bit versions of :
    C++2008 redistributable (32 bit)
    C++2008 SP1 redistributable (32 bit)
I installed Premiere Elements (64 bit) - note I had previously installed Sony Vegas 10 Platinum, which downloaded and installed NET 3.5/Net 2.0 adding to windows features, which many have helped - not sure.
I installed Photoshop Elements (32 bit)
I started both apps and updated them to 12.1.
Happy ... finally - hope this helps others - or at least helps adobe improve their installer, diagnose the issue for others.

If running 10.7 or later hold down Command-R at Startup.
    This should invoke recovery Mode.
    Choose Disk Utility.
Select your Hard drive. Inspect the SMART Status in the lower right of the window for "Verified".
Select the Mac OS X Volume (originally Macintosh HD) click (Repair Disk)
If errors, run again until it comes clean or gets stuck.
    Report any error messages.

  • I just "upgraded"????? to Lightroom CC, now it will not start on Windows 7.  can someone help me?

I had Lightroom 5 and the creative cloud photographer bundle.  upgraded (some joke) to Lightroom CC and no lightroom will not start on Windows 7.  just dead in the water. any help?

The fix was to completely remove all Apple Software following guides in previous posts.
Then download and re-install latest iTunes 64-bit, making sure to Run As Administrator.
This fixed it. Now the next thing seems to be that as I move from one device to another to close and restart iTunes between each one. Treat it gently. It seems to break easily and a lot.

And will not start up in safe mode. I have reset PRAM and SMC. Also restarted with no startup items, no luck. Had the problem of waking from sleep and not shutting down in 10.7, updated to 10.8 hoping for fix, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, this log has some similarities to my ipod touch which seems to be not sleeping properly due to wireless issues. Can I check - are you using a wifi connection - if so have you tried ethernet?

  • HT1455 What if my computer will not start up in safe mode?  What next?

What is the remedy for a MacBook that will not start up in safe mode?  The gray apple icon and progress wheel appear, I let go the shift key and the whole thing shuts off again.  Please help.  Thank you.

My understanding is that the Apple logo is produced by the disk and the spinning wheel shows that the software boot process has started.
1 - Shut down your Mac
2 - Press the power button to start and
3 - Immediately press and hold the Command (Apple) key and the S key
4 - At the prompt type the following and then hit return:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issues were found:
** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 4 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do). When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type the following at the prompt and hit return:
    reboot
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.
    Good luck.

  • Firefox version 3.5.16 will not start under Windows Vista and Windows 7 32bit

I have a Windows Vista computer that will not start any newer version of Firefox than 3.5.16. The process will run (as seen in the Task Manager) but do nothing.
I have since updated Windows to version 7 and the problem persists.
I have tried uninstalling Firefox and all Addons (flash-player, pdf-reader) and deleting all files (even user-specific ones).
Firefox can't be started in Profilemanger or safe-mode either.
Is there anything short of reinstalling windows I can try?

    Solved it!
It was a dodgy version of Firebug (1.6.2) running, which would kill the disable/update process. It was killing something on the first run that would corrupt my Firefox.
    How I fixed it:
    * Download the latest Firefox
    * Install Firefox 4 (as Standard) in-place upgrade
    * Before finishing, un-tick the "Run Firefox Now" button
    * Hit Finish
    * Find Firefox in the Start Menu and hold Shift and click the executable (safe mode)
    * Leave everything disabled
    * You should now have a working Firefox!
Remove/update your add-ons as needed. I only had to upgrade Firebug in safe mode to get it working.
Odd how the check for updates completely broke this Firefox, wonder what was so bad about Firebug.
Hope this helps at least one other person! The "Run in Safe Mode" option is so hard to discover now when your browser is broken!

  • System will not start login Window

I have a 10.4.5 workstation that will not start the login window.
It comes up very quickly with the box/progress bar that shows the starting services. Then it goes to the blue screen with the spinning wheel. It will the get a beachball that goes to a useable mouse, but there is only lots of blue real estate. Login window never comes up.
I have done the following in the order listed:
    disk utility
    fsck
    repaired permissions
    renamed com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    replaced the netinfo DB
each reboot only produces the same screen with a cursor and nothing else.

I had a similar looking problem on not one but two laptops after upgrading to 10.4.7 (which incorporates several Security Updates) from various lower Tiger versions. In my case, booting to single user mode showed loginwindow continually falling over & being restarted.
They wouldn't boot from CD or external firewire drives.
I eventually got them back up by booting in firewire target mode & applying the 10.4.7 Combo updater.

  • Firefox will not start, even in Safe Mode. Evidence suggests that this is due to an incompatibility with the latest update of Java.

Firefox will not start in WinXP. (I am sending this from an alternate browser.)
I believe that this is due to some incompatibility with the latest update of Java. I believe that one of the tabs from my previous session included a Java application, and this is causing the difficulty. In recent days, since the last update of Java, I have had difficulty in loading linked pages with Java applications into Firefox, and have needed to switch to a different browser to do this.
Now I cannot even start the browser, presumably due to the presence of a Java application on one of the restored tabs.
When I now try to start Firefox, my ZoneAlarm security s/w presents the message "Java(TM) Quick Starter binary is trying to access the Internet." I click "Allow", but Firefox will not start. If I click "Deny", the same result. The same thing happens when I try to start Firefox in Safe Mode, I cannot even start Firefox in Safe mode.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== after recent update of Java

You can try to disable the Java Quick starter and the Java Console extension in the Control Panel > Java.
Control Panel > Java > Advanced tab > Miscellaneous >Java Quick Starter (disable)
You can also disable the Java plugin in Firefox: Tools > Add-ons > Plugins
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

thanks chris for the reply back,i have solved the massive problem i have had with MF 3.6.3 it ws COMODO FREE FIREWALL i had a sneaking suspicion all a long it could have been that but was not sure?,my pc had slowed down since installing comodo i am pretty sure of that, there were lags and pauses ect ect on general usage of the pc even though cpu usage was ok?,so maybe if many pc users that have comodo firewall installed they might like to try a change to another firewall and see if it helps,i went back to OUTPOST FREE FIREWALL which i had for ages without ANY problems whatsoever.

Also, the link you provided is to Windows Vista, not Windows 7 Home Premium.  However, I did look at the registry setting they said to look at in the link.
    Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Under the ProfileList subkey, delete the subkey that is named <var>SID</var>.bak.
Note <var>SID</var> is a placeholder for the security identifier (SID) of the user account that is experiencing the problem. The <var>SID</var>.bak subkey should contain a ProfileImagePath registry entry that points to the original profile
folder of the user account that is experiencing the problem.
    Exit Registry Editor.
Looking into my registry for my ProfilesList as mentioned. I have these items.
    S-1-5-19 Folder with Default (Value not set), Flags (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000, ProfileImagePath (REG_EXPANDS_SZ) C:Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, State (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000
    S-1-5-20 Folder with Default (Value not set), Flags (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000, ProfileImagePath (REG_EXPANDS_SZ) C:Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService, State (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000
Then I have an item for each of my three accounts, Administrator, Martin Dahl, and mdahl, All admin Accounts, which has no sid.bak, but a Sid, so not sure how this link helps me either.   Still looking for assistance.  Still not starting.

  • Premier Elements 7 will not start on Windows 7

Unable to get Premier elements 7 to start. Crashes as soon as it is told to either create a new project or to open an existing project.
Will Premier 7 run on Windows 7?
Software: Premier 7, just reinstalled, with patches.
machine: HP with Intel core 2 quad cpu @ 2.66Ghz with 6GB memory, disks are 750Gb and 1Tb, No Raid. Video is Nvidia GeForce 9500GS
OS is 64 bit Windows home premium with all service packs and patches applied. Not running Aero.
Ran fine previously when this same hardware was running Vista

PRE7 runs fine on W7-64 without needing to set compatibility or rights.
Work through these basics to see if it cures your problems.
    Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
    Install PRE9 v9.0.1 update.
Delete BadDrivers.txt (in Windows 7 this is likely at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Premiere Elements\9.0\BadDrivers.txt)
    Run Disk Cleanup.
    Run Defragmenter.
    Reboot your PC.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • ITunes will not start - even in safe mode

I have been using iTunes for years and have been happy.  A week ago it refused to open.  I followed most of the instructions that I could find to correct.
Right now I have iTunes and all supporting applications installed.  When I start iTunes in the Program List, the iTune.exe *32 process starts, however, it does not show up as an application.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, follwoed the instructions for a "fresh" reinstall.  I have been working this for over a week (off and on) and I cannot seem to figure it out.  It will not open in safe mode either.
Has anyone had this problem?  Anyone have ideas?

Yes I did perform this step.  When I set up a new user, the first time I ran iTunes in safe mode it performed a configuration.  Then it simply did not run.  Again, the background process executed and ran.  The application however, did not run.
So you've established it's a systemwide issue. Did you then proceed to carry out the System-wide troubleshooting procedures described in the document? As it says in the document:
If you have the same issue in the new user account, proceed to the "System-wide troubleshooting"       section. If you don't experience the same issue, proceed to the "User-specific troubleshooting"       section.
Click the heading System-wide troubleshooting to expand the section and show the list of procedures.

  • Bridge CS6 will not start in Windows 7

    Bridge CS6 (both 32 and 64) don't start in Windows 7.
Bridge starts in Task Manager for a few seconds, but goes away.  No errors, no logs.
I have tried all the suggestions I've found within the forums, including checking settings,, temp environment variables, deleting C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS6 (including the directory itself), etc.  No luck.   Adding a new user, then using it to start Bridge worked great, but that is not really a solution.  One added piece of info:  Bridge did recreate the above directory before dying, although it remains empty.  I haven't found any logfiles that might help understand how far it got.   Is there a log file or a registry setting that will enable detailed logging to help diagnose this?
I managed to gather a temp xml file that has some info that might help.  This file shows up for the few seconds when Bridge is running.

There is obviously something in my normal user's profile or environment that is getting in the way of startup.  Yes, my normal user is an admin. You (Adobe) have the code and the startup can't be that convoluted. Someone should be able to walk the code, figure out what things are checked between creating the above directory and the next externally detectable step (like creating a file in this directory or logging something into a log file), then reply here with a list of specific things to check.
I got into a chat with Adobe support several days ago, where I went through several steps of ensuring I was using a properly licensed version only to be told that he didn't know Bridge and asked that I call during the day on Monday. The sign off message to that chat was funny - they mentioned 24x365 support :-) Luckily, I've worked support in my past and I have a sense of humor.
I tried to file a bug form the web, but failed to navigate the amazingly bad support web experience of Adobe.com.  At one point, I had found a place to do it, pasted the above into that window, then tried to submit - I wasn't logged in.  So, I clicked the login link and got an error pop-up window with a bad-link error.  I came in fresh - logged in, then could not find that "report a bug" screen again.  Truly amazing.  But I guess, if you cannot report a bug, it doesn't exist - so congratulations on your bug-free products.
    A suggestion:
Provide a simple link to report a bug that's not tied to a service plan.  It would simply be a way to tell you about problems with the hope that a solution could be provided in a future release - these can optionally be logged to the forums for community involvement.  I don't mind logging in to prove I'm a valid user.

Adobe staff has to browse these forums on their own time (I know that should be part of their job) so their visits are infrequent.
There are several sites to report bugs which seems to be counterproductive.   I think this one has the most support right now. http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
And you are sure you are not running Bridge CS5 in the background?  You can only run one Bridge program at any one time.
In both the Mac and Win OS seems like the workaround to create a new user works frequently, but it is a hassle.  In your problem solving did you unistall everything then run the Adobe Script Cleaner?
Although this is a stretch for this problem, but might search your uninstall directroy and see if there are any expired Adobe trials you have not uninstalled.  For whatever reason it can stop launch of Bridge "as you need to launch parent application at least once".  Apparently even though it is long gone it is still seeing it as "parent" program.  As I said it is kind of a stretch here, but you never know.
Good luck on this as I know it is extrememly frustrating and Adobe does have its communication problems.
That is why it is important for the users to step up and start contributing to these forums with suggestions on what to try, thiings they have tried and worked or did not, etc.
