In Yosemite, Airport Utility Fails

When I open Airport Utility 6.3.4  in OS 10.10.1, I get a green light on Internet, but never see the Basestation. Thus I cannot update or configure it.
Anyone have a clue how to get Airport Utility to work in Yosemite?

Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Airport Utility fails to see Airport Extreme Only an Older Base Station no longer connected

Very weird what's happened... earlier this morning there was a power failure (none of my 2 computers were ON, and they are plugged in thru UPS with power surge/outage capabilities).
I turned my old Macbook Pro (2007) and everythign is fine. My Mac Pro (2008) is fine but it can't connect to the internet.
I've resetted both the modem and the Airport Extreme Base Station.
I've restarted and resetted the PRAM on my Mac Pro.
I've tried many times to diagnose it/change settings/create new network with Network and Airport Utility to no avail.
When I open Airport Utility on the Macbook Pro, it shows the Airport Extreme and it all looks fine... when I open Airport Utility on the Mac Pro, it only sees an old Snow/Graphite Base Station I haven't had plugged in in a log time. It doesn't see anything else.
I've tried trashing the Airport Utility preferences as well... but still nothing. The Wif Fi icon shows a '!'. When I click on it, the pull down menu shows an "Alert: No Internet Connection", but it still shows my network  (and the neighbours' network) and it even has the check mark next to my network... ???
    I'm running 10.8.5 and Airport Utility 6.3.1.
    Please. Help.

Just a quick update, spent 90 minutes on the phone with apple support today.  If I boot the mac in safe mode, the airport utility can see the base station.
In the course of trouble shooting, a test account was created, but the airport utility had the same issue.  It proved that there isn't anything wrong with any of the hardware at the very least, and points to user level configuration problems (unfortunately, I was not able to sort that out with support).
    Regards,
    Seth

  • Airport Utility fails with Jumbo Frames enabled.

I have an iMac running 10.6.4 and Airport Utility Version 5.5.1 (551.19). A few weeks ago I enabled Jumbo Frames for some wired gigabit testing. I forgot to change back to 1500 MTU. Tried checking an Airport Setting with the Utility and it discovers the Airport Express (non-gige) but cannot retrieve the configuration. I manage the Airport via ethernet. Changing back to 1500 MTU fixes the issue. Is this expected? The odd thing is that printing works fine to the printer attached to the Airport even at 9000 MTU.

  • Airport utility fails to detect time capsule

I'm sitting right beside the thing, so I know it isn't a distance problem. It's blinking orange, and cannot be found via search.

If AirPort Utility cannot "find" your Time Capsule after a few tries, (Did you power down both your computer and the Time Capsule and then power them back up?), your next option is to reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings.
    Power down the Time Capsule
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
Reconfigure your Time Capsule. You can use the same name, password, etc as before if you wish.
The factory default reset will not harm or affect your existing backups

  • Airport Utility can not connect to Time Casule in Yosemite

HELLO EVERYONE! I have a Macbook Pro 17 mid 2009 and recently i have it upgraded to Yosemite.Airport Utility doesn't detect the TIME CAPSULE despite the computer is connected to the network through Wi-Fi.Time Machine can not detect the back up disk as well . Please any sugestions, than you.

Did you perform the complete power cycle that I suggested?  That will often help with issues like this.
If you did and it did not help....then the next step may or may not help....or may make matters worse.....so you might want to wait for the next Yosemite update to see there is a "fix" for the common issue that you are reporting.
In my case, the issue was resolved by resetting the Time Capsule back to factory default settings and then setting it up again....using a simple device name for the Time Capsule and a simple wireless network name for the network.
The names are short....no more than 12 characters,  use only letters and numbers and contain no blank spaces or special characters in the name.
Once the network was back up and running, I had to reset Time Machine to get backups going again to the "new" Time Capsule.

  • Airport Express fails to connect

Ok. i know there are like a million of these posts regarding the same topic. however, i cannot find an answer as i have searched pretty much each and every post. here is my problem.
I have 2 airport expresses. Both are older versions. One connects with no issues at all. the other i have tried to configure several times, but when it "restarts" to apply my config settings. the airport utility fails to recognize it. It does see my first one, but not the second. I have even tried to copy the config from the known working one to the one that is giving me grief. That did not work either. It makes no sense to me, because clearly it sees my wireless network if i can use the utility to configure it (after defaults are applied and restart given). Or is that the issue? i am not connecting to it via my wireless. but rather to the default wireless of the AX. And there something with the actual wireless within the airport itself? Please any help would be greatly appreciated......it is driving me mad. If i have been vague in my explanation, please let me know and i can supply more details.

It's always possible that you may have defective AirPort Express (AX) that will not hold its configuration settings.
Try a Factory Default Reset first as follows:
Power down the AX and leave it off at least 5-10 minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the AX back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you have seen the amber light blink quickly for 4-5 seconds, then release
Wait 40-45 seconds for the AX to restart and you see the amber light blinking slowly
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AX
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the row of icons to name your device, assign a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Join a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your wireless network that you have been using
Wireless Security = Same setting as your other AX
Wireless Password = Same password as your wireless network
    Confirm Password
Click Update. As soon as you see the message that the settings have been stored, close AirPort Utility and disconnect the temporary ethernet cable
Wait 40-45 seconds to see if you get the green light
If you try this a few times and the AX will not join the network correctly, you likely have an defective AX that will need to be replaced.

  • Attempted to install AirPort Utility 6.0 on my new mac mini. Install failed and now the previous version 5.5.3 won't open. I downloaded and tried to instal 6.0 without software update, which failed, and my old 5.5.3 AirPort Utility still won't open? Help.

Now the previous version won't open. I downloaded and tried to instal 6.0 without software update, which failed, and my old 5.5.3 Airport Utility still won't open.
iTunes no longer recognizes my airport express.

I reinstalled AirPort 5.5.3 which worked, but the app still won't launch but iTunes now recognizes my AirPort Express, I just hope I don't want to change its settings.

  • Why can I no longer see my Airport Extreme router in AirPort Utility after installing Yosemite?

After upgrading to Yosemite, I can no longer see my router in the Airport Utility application.  In Finder, my router shows up as an AirPort Time Capsule but when I try to select it, I get message saying it can't connect.  I can, however, connect to the internet through the router.

I reset my router and I can now see it.

  • HT1145 I downloaded the Airport Utility 5.6 for OS X Lion and when I finish installing it sends a message that says "the instalation failed contact your software provider"

I downloaded the Airport Utility 5.6 for OS X Lion and when I finish installing it sends a message that says "the instalation failed contact your software provider" And seems like thats the solution so I can use my time capsule.
    Thanks

Thanks. Please review my post above to see that we asked five basic questions.
Looks like we got two answers.
Can you please provide answers to the other questions that we asked?
    1)  Are you trying to connect your Time Capsule to your modem using an Ethernet cable?
    2)  What is the make and model number of your modem?
    3)  Are you still using Lion (10.7.5) as you indicate in your profile, or have you updated to Mountain Lion or Mavericks?
I understand that things appear clear to you there, but we cannot read your mind or see your network, so we only know as much about your problem and your network as you can tell us.

  • Airport Utility `install failed' error with both 6.0 and 6.1

    Hi folks
I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53) and cannot get the Airport Utility to run at all. [5.5.3] The application icon flickers as though it is about to launch and then nothing happens.
I have tried other 5.x downloads and they all fail because I am running OS X Lion 10.7.4.
Doing a standard Software Update or using a download of 6.x from the Apple Support site, the installer comes up with an `install failed' error with both 6.0 and 6.1, having gotten through the complete process and looking like they were `successful'.
It's the only time in two years and many updates later that i have come across this issue, so I am unsure how to start to tackle it.
    Any ideas or suggestions please?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Backup your files and try this:
    1. Reboot from recovery partition (or as in my case USB recovery drive)
    2. Select Re-install Mac OS X
    3. Allow the process to run through multiple restarts
    4. When reinstall process is complete run software update (side note, my software update would not launch as long as my USB recovery stick was plugged in, weird)
    5. Run all updates saving the Airport Utility 6.0 until last.
    6. Install the airport utility from software update.

  • HT5022 Airport Utility 5.6 won't install.  Gets to the last step and fails.  Why?

I have an older Airport Extreme so I need to install Airport Utility 5.6 as 6 does not recognize it.  The download goes fine and installation proceeds until the last step of the installation (cleaning up) when it fails.  I'm using Lion.  Suggestions?

Apple will not let you install AirPort Utility 5.6 on Lion 10.7.4 (or 10.7.5) if you have updated the operating system.
You might want to study a workaround in this thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21397085#21397085
This is not officially supported by Apple, so it may or may not work for you.....if you want to give it a try.

  • Airport utility 5.6 install fail

I have old airport expresses.  I am told my Airport utility does not support them, and I need version 5.6.
When I found that, it failed at the end of the installation several times.
    Any ideas what to do?

Use the technique described in this thread: I can't install airport utility 5.6

  • Airport utility 5.6 install failed

need to use first version of airport express and running 10.7.5 airport utility 5.6 install fails need help

First try AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion. If that version does not install, go on to the next series of steps.
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under OS X Lion (versions 10.7.3 +) or OS X Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

  • Airport Utility 5.6 fails to install

Hi, I need help.  I have spent the last 2 days trying to extend my wireless network with Airport Extreme and Airport Express.  I currently have Airport Utility 6.2 installed and am unable to "check" the box to allow the Airport Extreme to be "extended".  I've tried at least 30 times to install Airport Utility 5.6 and have also tried installing 5.5.3.  5.6 fails every time.  5.5.3 will install successfully, but when I open Airport Utility (under Utilities) it is still 6.2 and that's the only one to choose.  What am I doing wrong??
Please help.  Thank you so much in advance!!

OK, thanks for confirming that for me. Please try this:
Temporarily locate the AirPort Express in the same room or near the AirPort Extreme
Power up the Express and let it run a full minute
Push the reset button on the back of the Express with a pen or something similar and hold it for 7-8 seconds, then release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of your Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear.
Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express
AirPort Setup (part of AirPort Utility) will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to "extend" your AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name for the AirPort Express.....you can use Apple's suggestion here or shorten the name....then click Next
AirPort Setup will take another minute to configure everything. When you see the message of Set Up Complete, click Done and close AirPort Setup.
Now locate the Express approximately half the distance between the AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage and power the Express back up.
    Please report on your results.

  • What version of Airport Utility works with Yosemite?

I tried to install 6.3.1, but the installer said that it was not compatible with Yosemite. Is there a version since 5.6.1 that works with Yosemite, and, if so, where can I find it? I have looked everywhere with no luck.

Airport Utility 6.3.4 is the Yosemite version. It is installed with Yosemite.
