Inability to connect to internet

Yesterday I was unable to get onto the internet using my imac. The powerbook is connecting quite cheerfully via both ethernet and airport network connections. With the imac booted under Techtool edrive I was also able to access the internet.
But I cannot use any browser and Mail is unable to make a connection. The Mail connection doctor reports that mail is able to connect to the internet, and even though the account details are unchanged, the doctor says that they are unable to connect to pop or smtp accounts. Mobile me is also not connecting.
Although I can use the powerbook to connect to the internet I cannot network to the imac, and cannot get the imac to network to the powerbook.
The network diagnostics say that there is a connection, with all options showing a green light, and an 'all is OK' message. I successfully pinged my isp using network utility.
I have reinstalled OS 10.6.3, run onyx, techtool pro, repaired permissions.
I am at a complete loss as to what to do next. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for the suggestions. Another theory also surfaced. An acquaintance and I both had the same problem on the same day! He tracked his down through intego virus barrier inserting an additional firewall, which is what caused his problem. I had independently come to the conclusion that the intego suite was implicated and thought I had removed it all, which was when my problems started. In the meantime I decided to reinstall my system software and used time machine to restore everything, making sure I filtered everything I reinstalled (I discovered that clean up, under my direction, had not removed stuff from launch services).
The only remaining problem is that while the firewire disk shows up on my desktop as a firewire disk, and is recognised as such in system profiler, it does not behave as a firewire disk for migration manager. Using the intego hint I will reinstall it and remove all filters in the hope that fixes the problem.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

apple TV won't connect to internet

I've had this problem for ages, which seems to have started with problematic download speeds and then resulted eventually with the inability of the ATV (2) to connect to the internet.  Like you, we were able to connect to the wi-fi network in our home, and able to connect to the computer, but our ATV was not able to connect directly to internet services or internet products available through its connection with iTunes (eg: movie rentals on the computer).  Every other wi-fi device in the house was connecting successfully, the ATV did not.
Prior to that time we'd been operating the device successfully for about 15 months.
Most web advice seems to suggest problems with  static IP addresses, or blocked 80 and 443 ports.  We've talked with Apple support, ISP support and Netgear support.
In the end, by adding   together clues given by Apple and Netgear, we worked out that the recently updated software for ATV is no longer compatible with the software of our modem router.
By updating the modem router's firmware (which was a process in itself!) our ATV is back to full functionality.
You can update your modem or modem/router by going to the home page of its manufacturer (eg: Netgear).  Model numbers and Serial Numbers are normally recorded on the bottom of the device, as is the address used to access the modem router manager, in which you can update your device.
Hope this is useful to others.

  • Lost the ability to connect to Internet via DSL

I am running Boot Camp and on the PC side right now because I cannot connect to the Internet on the Mac side!
When I attempt to connect, I get an error message that led me to investigate the Network Connections setup within System Preferences.
However, when I opened up the Network Connections box, a drop-down window appeared immediately to tell me that "another application changed my network settings." I was given only one box to click, titled "okay." Even, though I wasn't okay with that, what else could I click, so I clicked it. The drop-down box disappeared for only an instant, just to reappear. Again and again. I could not check any settings or adjust a thing because when this box drops down, all other areas of the Network Connections box are rendered inoperable. The only way to get rid of the drop-down box is to Force Quit Network Settings.
So, does anyone have an idea 1) why I am getting the drop-down box?; 2) how to STOP getting it?; and, most importantly, how to diagnose the inability to connect to the Internet on the Mac?

    UPDATE!!!
Okay, here is what I have (finally) discovered. In the PPPoE settings, for some reason, an incorrect password was stored. When I changed the password to the correct one, everything works as expected and I instantly am logged on to the Internet!
However, trying to get my correct password to be stored there is not happening! I enter it and then click the lock and accept the change. But, as soon as I do, the password reverts back to the shorter, incorrect one!!!
So, as a temporary fix, I have disabled the SAVE PASSWORD button, which (I think) means I will have to manually enter the password each time I logon. Heck, at this point, I don't care!
Why I cannot seem to get the correct password to stay saved is beyond my comprehension right now.

  • Macbook wifi won't connect to internet

Cannot connect MBP to the 'net using wifi or ethernet. My iMac (on the same network) has no problem doing so (wifi).
"Network Preferences" shows green for ethernet connection. "Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.22.253 and will not be able to connect to the internet"
[The Airport icon changes from connected and (! ) not connected. It doesn't seem to be limited to a wifi problem because an ethernet connection has the same inability to connect.]
Clues: Restarting computer, cable and wifi modems doesn't help. I have renewed DHCP lease without change to the problem (no Client ID required). There is no "Router Address" below the subnet mask (255.255.0.0) on the TCP/IP page. Configure IPv6: Automatically.
Creating a new network doesn't help.
IMPORTANT: My (Cisco) router shows a yellow light at the ethernet connection with the MBP but is otherwise operational with other devices.
This leads me to believe I have a hardware issue on MBP... very much appreciate your input; thanks.

Your time and date are likely not correct in System Preferences, so check that first that it's updated via Apple's time servers for your location.
I think you also need to head to System Preferences > Network and create a New Location (Unlock, then Edit Locations), then delete the old one, head to Airport > Avdanced > Ariport and delete all the wireless connections. Because fooing around you likely messed other things up.
Check this link out for more fixes.
    ..WiFi, Internet problems, possible solutions
Then simply start over new via the Airport connection in the top right corner and when it askes to save in KeyChain, do so.
I don't like Cisco/Linksys routers, they spy on your web traffic via their Cloud Connect.

Going to sell their home router division to Belkin I read.
For the best router IMHO, I advise the top end Netgear dual band, it's already plug and play with decent passwords provided, also you can increase the security and turn off PING.
Apple's routers require setup and you can't turn off PING so you can be Ping flooded by bothnets or it announces itself to hackers online, and if you don't set a awesome password, your fish food. Apple needs to improve their router software IMHO.

This might be one of the more confusing and less than clear questions I have come across here.  I don't use gnome or really any of this software that you use.  But from what I can decipher above, you seem to have two problems.
First, it is not connecting consistently.  In order to fix this, you reinstall the software?  Am I reading that right?
Second, once you do get a connection, you experience a kernel panic?  This is where the kernel has an oops and cannot recover, so it dumps its contents/errors to the screen.  Is this what is happening?
Basically, you need to be more clear about what you are experiencing.  It would seem that English is not your first language, but that should not stop you from at least phrasing your question in a way that says more than "I click this" and "I click that".  Have you checked your logs at all to see if there is anything revealing there?

  • How do I connect to internet with vz access manager for iphone 4S?

I have VZ Access Manager on my laptop and want to use it to connect to internet on my new iphone 4S.  How do I do this?

If you can set up an Ad Hoc wireless network from your laptop, you could use it that way. Once again VZ Access Manager will not enter into the sharing part.
Plug these search terms into Google:
set up an ad hoc network
    You'll find lots of instructions.
    Best of luck.

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

Its a late response... but if someone gets the same issue here is the solution.
When you register try uppercase password . That should take care of that issue.
The problem is with function module CRM_ISA_IUSER_SWITCH , Note 946536.
Although the note says 5.0 the problem exists with ISA 4.0 too
