Inability to get 1080p playback

I have one of the new Intel minis (2.0 GHz Core2 Duo with 2GB RAM) and am currently using a Samsung 37A550 TV as my monitor. The Samsung has 1080p capability, but my mini does not show 1080p as an available setting, only 1080i. When I select the TV input to which the mini is connected, the TV reports that what is being used is 1080i. Is there any way that I can get my mini to use 1080p? Any leads will be gratefully followed.

Some googling revealed this suggestion:
http://blog.adamnash.com/2008/01/24/yes-you-can-get-1080p-out-of-a-mac-mini/
"How to Get 1080P, not 1080i, out of the Mac Mini. This is the tough one. When you go to the Displays control panel on the Mac Mini (Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5), you are given lots of video choices. However, the maximum resolution says 1920×1080 (interlaced) at 60Hz. What gives? I’m not sure, but it seems like a bug. The secret is to enable the checkbox that says “Show displays in menu bar”. If you do then, a displays icon appears in the menu bar. Click it to get a drop down menu of all display resolutions. Interestingly, there are now two 1920×1080 options, which are labeled identically. Choose the other one! You’ll now be driving full 1080P..."

I'm a Nokia 701 owner over 6 months now. It is a great device in almost every aspect. But it puzzled me why it can't play 1080p videos when it's hardware is more than capable ( Broadcom's BCM2763 with Videocore 4 engine).  Was hoping the phone would get this functionality with FP1 update, but no.
Now, I paid quite an amount of money for this phone and I didn't go Galaxy S II way at the time (which is fully capable to play 1080p). Nokia 808 PV has the same hardware and no software restrictions for 1080p playback. It is clear that only someone's decision and software restriction is preventing 1080p playback on Nokias 603, 700 and 701.
I respectfully request that the next software update allows the same 1080p playback on these devices as it is done on 808 PV.
    PS.
Before someone says that 1080p or even 720p resolutions are an overkill on phone's display (in terms of picture size, they are), I'll state that I have a 32GB mSDHC card and a lot of 720p and 1080p videos 100MB-1.5GB that I want to watch on my phone (I often travel) without having to reencode them.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Generally speaking volume isn't controlled in that way, for example it isn't usual to be able to control the volume of a movie from a DVD player.
That being said  have implemented volume control for audio content through the tv, although it should be noted that the remote keys used to adjust audio are used for other purposes when the tv is playing video. I therefore think it unlikely that they have the ability to add volume control for video in the way you suggest.

  • I am trying to get better playback rendering speed Premiere CS6

I am new to Adobe Premiere CS6.  I am trying to get faster playback rendering speed from my machine.
    Windows 7
i7 4790K Haswell overclocked to 4.5 (watercooled with Corsair)
    16 GB DDR3@799MHz
Asus Z87-WS (4 double graphic card slots)
Geforce GTX 760 (Primary)  GPU hardware acceleration enabled
    Quadro FX5800
250GB Samsung solid state C: (Windows and Adobe)
    250GB Crucial solid state (Scratch)
    2TB Seagate 7200RPM (video files)
    3TB Seagate 7200RPM (storage)
    Seasonic 1000watt PSU
I am primarily editing GoPro videos with effects like TimeWarp or Twixtor and color correction.
I have tried to run the PPBM6 program with no success. I kept getting failure to access files.
I have been looking at adding a second GTX760 with SLI so they will work together.  And possible removing the Quadro if it is slowing things down.
Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

...are you SURE your 760 GPU is "enabled" by PPro, and giving you the option of "Mercury Playback Acceleration" under  "General Preferences" ??? If the "Mercury Acceleration" is GREYED OUT and limits you to "software Only", go to Studio 1 website and learn to apply the well known "hack" to enable your 760 in PPro,OR, download their simple program to do it for you.
...Your machine is POWERFUL....especially with your CPU overclock......you MAY want to increase your memory to 32 GB if you are using After Effects....even PPro MAY run better with 32 GB, depending on your workflow.....most systems like yours have at LEAST 32GB system memory.
.....The GoPro codec is natively HIGHLY COMPRESSED and difficult to process, even for beefy machines. That is why they provide the free Cineform tool,( which used to be an expensive professional editing codec), to convert some,or,all of your footage to a more "edit friendly" AVI codec, which will FLY on your machine. HOWEVER, those new AVI files are HUGE.....TRIPLE the original size and requiring a LARGE and FAST disk transfer system. Right now, your single 7200 drive for your media is your SLOWEST component in the chain. The CHEAPEST improvement for you would be to add another MATCHING 2TB 7,200 rpm drive to your existing one and then use the 2 drives to create a fast RAID 0 directly off the mother board to improve the speed of your "media drive". THEN, you MUST insure that this RAID 0 is DILIGENTLY BACKED UP in case of a drive failure in the RAID. This ALSO means you must protect against an unexpected power failure which could destroy the RAID data if the failure happened during a critical write operation.....so,a good UPS is required.
You can OBSERVE how the various components in your system are performing while performing strenuous tasks by bringing up the "task manager" window and watching the CPU load.... if all cores are PEGGED at near 100%, you are "CPU bound". As you are ALREADY overclocked, you can't do anything other than to TRANSCODE your footage to the free Cineform. Your ENABLED GPU can be observed....real time....using the free MSI Afterburner,( or, similar).  Certain operations are accelerated by the GPU with PPro....not ALL!!  Scaling and some effects will use use the "Mercury Acceleration" while rendering previews AND during export. In some cases, rendering previews,or, exporting can be sped up by TEN TIMES by Mercury Acceleration. Watch the "GPU Usage" on Afterburner to see if the GPU is indeed being used, and if you are "saturating" it to its capacity of 100% with accelerated effects.
Make sure your Windows is fully updated to the current time........make sure your NVidia 760 has the most recent driver and DON'T use the Quadro for now. Set your "Windows page file" to be STATIC on your "C" drive at 24GB. Disable "Hibernation" Set all drives NOT to allow "indexing". Do NOT allow any spinning HDD to be over 50% filled....performance WILL decrease.....make sure any HDD is defragged,( do NOT defrag an SSD ! ). Stop all unnecessary processes, esp. anti-virus programs, while editing. Find out how to best "tune" windows to speed it up at the PPBM 6 and 7 websites.
BE AWARE that the "run of the mill" SSDs use cheaper Sandforce controllers, and are less suited to handle highly compressed digital video files. Samsung PRO models and recent Crucial M550 series SSDs ONLY are recommended for video use. Both these non-Sandforce SSDs maintain high WRITE speeds,( over 400MB/sec), AND maintain their high speeds after reaching their "steady state" condition. Cheaper EVO series and non-Marvell controlled SSDs MAY lose their fast write speeds over time and SLOW YOU WAY DOWN !!!  Test your current SSDs by transferring large video files between them  and watching MB per second that appears under "details" in the pop up window during transfer. Make sure none are slow.....test them with HD Tune Pro as well.
Certain non-Adobe plug-ins and certain effects may NOT use all the CPU threads well,or, may not use the GPU.....forcing the CPU to do additional work. You will have to identify problem plug-ins,or, effects by switching them on and off to see if any cripple your system.
Your machine is POWERFUL.....go to PPBM7 website and read the "tweakers" page to learn more....then, register for free and TEST your machine with their video benchmark test for PPro. It should do WELL.....AND it will help identify if you have any "bottlenecks" which are impairing your system.
Good Luck !!!!!.....THEN, start using CC 2014.....like Patton said : "...all glory is FLEETING !!"......so is the lifespan of former PPro versions !!!!!!

  • ITunes 10.6/Quicktime 7 1080p playback issue/frame skipping

I have a playback issue with the 1080p videos on the recent version of iTunes - 10.6. I also tried playing the same videos on Quicktime where I was able to find that the videos were playing at around 20fps as opposed to their normal rate - 24fps~25fps.
I seem to barely meet the 1080p playback requirements on iTunes, but I know that I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Window Media Player(WMP) 12 without any issues. Aside from WMP, I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Youtube whenever hardware acceleration is enabled. I assume that WMP utilizes hardware acceleration as well.
The playback issue/frame skipping is probably caused by iTunes 10.6 not using hardware acceleration.

  • Can't get 1080p output to TV in windows 7 under bootcamp

I have no problems using my 40in Samsung LN610 1080p TV as extension of my Snow Leopard desktop (though it was rather tricky to get it running). However, I can NOT get 1080p output in windows 7 under bootcamp.
In detail, when I use TV as an extension of the desktop, TV shows no HDMI signal coming in if I try to use 1080p or 1080i output (using NVIDIA panel or standard win7 properties panel). However, when I drop the output to 720p then the signal gets through and TV displays 720p just fine.
I hope I explained it clearly engough. Please let me know if you are having the same trouble or if you know of a solution. I'm using the latest bootcamp drivers.
    I have Macbook Pro 13in 2.53GHz, 9400m, 4GIG RAM, mid 2009 unibody model.

This problem is not a problem with Windows or Apple. It has to do with when the updates are applied to Windows boot camp. The way to fix this is as follows. First click on the bluetooth icon from the Windows start page. Then click show bluetooth items. From this window click add a new device. When the device appears double click on the icon for the device. A window should appear that at the top says general and other. Click on the other tab and another window comes up with a small box in it. Check the box and Windows will search and install the exact, correct drivers for the device. Now the device will pair and work fine.

Hi, I getting a "playback error message" on youtube App. I tried to reinstall the app and to reset and restore the device and all these things didn't help.can you please help me

That's a peculiar one to get in the context of a QuickTime uninstall.
Which particular version of QuickTime for Windows are you currently running? (7.7.5, 7.7.4, something earlier?)

  • T410 i3, integrated graphics, 1080p playback

    Hey guys,
Sorry if this seems to be a topic that pops up over and over on the internet. I've been digging around a lot and have failed to find any definite answers to this question. It seems like some review sites are saying that the T410 has no problem with 1080p playback but doesn't specify the exact specifications for the machines tested for video playback. There is also a guy on youtube who posted a video review of 720p and 1080p playback from a T410 i3 integrated and says that video playback was fine for 720 but choppy for 1080; however, when peopel recommended coreAVC, no response was given.
Can anyone here give me their experience with 1080p playback with integrated graphics on a T410?
And also another quick question, I'm aware that the displayport to hdmi will carry audio as well, but for the video, does it carry the raw HD content, or is it scaled down.
    Thanks very much indeed!

    1. The T410 with i3 CPU runs the 1080p playback fine, whether or not it is choppy depends on the quality of the encoding and what player is used. The integrated GPU is designed for hardware decoding of the 1080p videos in Blu-ray.
    2. The displayport will carry the specific video size that you specify in the windows. It can support WQXGA resolution. But if you specify the output to 1920 x 1080 then it would do so at that resolution.

  • C2D 2.16 HD 1080P Playback

Waiting for my C2D 2.16 still(finally upgrading). I have a question regarding the power of the new MBP's even the 2.16 if they can play HD 1080P quicktime files like the ones at the apple movie trailers. I owned a PB 1.6 17" before and it could not handle anything other than 480p. I also tried CD MPB and 1080p playback was choppy. Thanks.

Playback may be smooth on the MBP display, but I should hope so, since no MBP can display it back natively (1080p = 1920x1080 resolution, 17" MBP = 1680x1050, 15" MBP = 1440x900).
Whether or not the MBP C2D can display the full 1920x1080p via DVI to a fully capable 1080p set is another story.
    -edit-
One thing I can relay from the dark side (PC/Win) is that the video card (GPU and RAM) played a larger part in the ability to play HD video than a slight speed bump in the processor (and I do view the CD to C2D as a speed bump and not a revolutionary step).
I know the ATI x1600 is viewed as a pretty decent video card, but nowhere near top of the line. Maybe the 256MB flavor will play back HD video more smoothly than the 128MB, but that's just a guess.

  • I just purchased Duet 2 and am using it with Garageband 11. I am getting iTunes playbacks through the headphone monitors with Duet 2 but can get no guitar or vocals recorded.  I get no volume

I just purchased Apogee Duet 2 and am using it with Garageband 11. I am getting iTunes playbacks through the headphone monitors as per quick startup directions. When I open Garageband I get the same identical stack of guitar and on pedal displayed.  I get no sound from the guitar.   I believe I have the set up exactly as per diagram and cannot figure things out.  I am relatively green at this - my best intentioned purchase now feels like a nightmare!!  Help!!

  • Can't get video playback in HDV

I have Final Cut 5.1 and am using the Sony HDV deck to import and cannot get video playback. There is communication from the the computer to the deck and I can control it via-Log and Capture, but I can't get any video to show up. There is the selection under View, but all the HDV selections are greyed out. Any ideas?

go back to your Easy Setup and re-choose the appropriate hdv setting.
disconnect your camera and make sure you have set it to HDV mode (not downconverting hdv to dv)
reconect the camera and use View > Refresh AV Devices
open File > Log and Capture... and see if you get the HDV Log and Capture window as you should

  • Poor service, incorrect billing, inability to get issue resolved.

Upon my initial purchase of verizon package with dsl high speed internet and phone for only 34.99 per month my services were never installed.  After multiple calls I was told that there was an error that was unresolvable from withing Verizon due to some internal phone transfer problem.  The only resolution was for me to cancel my order and reorder the same service.  I did as told and was then told that I had to pay more for same package as that special had ended an hour earlier.  After much to do they agreed to give me the special and asked me to keep my equipement and not send it back as they would use that equipement instead of sending out a whole set of new equipement.
I did as I was told.  Ater again FOUR call backs the technitian was able to finaly get the service to work.  Now they are sending me a bill saying I didn't send the equipement back.  I WAS TOLD TO KEEP THE EQUIPEMENT!!! The Verizon technitian installed THIS SAME EQUIPMENT!!!!   Now they are sendin a collection agency after me for the same equipement while collecting a monthly service fee for said same equipement.
I have called 6 times now and held for over 20 minutes each time and had to finally hang up each time.  After fighting with the ambiguas sight that does everything it can to avoid letting a customer chat with a person that can help me I finally get a person to chat with.  I was at work at the same time so I did not get back to the guy within a few moments and he cancelled the chat # 01041376694.   Now I can't get back into the chat.  THIS IS INSANE VERIZON!!! Do you understand that I am not just an unhappy customer; I am becoming a hostile customer to your organization as I will be telling everyone I know about this insanely poor service, billing and inability to get help.
Eventually your going to do this to enough customers and Verizon will be a shadow of what it once was.
I know that I will probably not hear from anyone as I am now on hold for 10 minutes now waiting for a human to talk to.  Will probably have to hang up soon when a customer comes into office and yet again not have issue resolved.  Thinking about looking into legal options if your organization damages my credit from your collection agency antics.  Your choice verizon.  I don't even care if you just cancel all the service now.  But you mess with my credit and I will seek all legal rememdy.

Will I have to purchase an ATV3 to get 1080p or will Apple provide an update to ATV2?

You'll need to purchase the new Apple TV to play 1080p video. The 2010 Apple TV was only capable of displaying 720p video.

  • Qosmio X300-11S - Cant get 1080p @ 60 Hz to work

I have a Qosmio X300-11S and no matter how much I try I can't get 1080p to work at 60hz.
In fact that timing isn't even available. I can only chose 24p or 30p on my Full-HD displays even though they support 50/60hz.
I have the latest drivers installed for my 9700M GTS so I'm lost. I am almost certain that it has worked before.
    What might be the problem?

    Hey,
    Wait a moment, buddy.
If you connect your X300 to an external monitor via HDMI cable I would recommend connecting the cable first. Then power on the monitor or TV and select the correct input channel. At last power on the notebook and normally it should recognize the HDMI connection automatically.
If not you can use FN+F5 key combination to switch between the monitors.
Furthermore the latest display drivers from Toshiba should work because they are pretested so I would recommend this driver.

  • Air thinks there is a Midi connection when there is not.  I get no playback audio out of Air.

Hello..I am trying to rehearse songs for studio session.  Keep getting message that Garageband that my Air thinks there is a Midi connection when there is not.  I get no playback audio.  How do I tell Garageband/Air to stop looking for Midi/Logic?
It is looking for the Logic Pro used at my recording studio I go to when I transfer my cuts over to the studio's Logic Pro system from my air.  I can probably wait and have my engineer figure it out but hoping somebody here will return a quick answer... Please...thanks!
I have tried everything I can think of in audio, preferences, etc.
Seems so simple to tell my Air..hey...we are no longer connected to Logic Pro at the studio!

19 Views and 0! replies...i must really have an oddball problem...my machine still thinks it needs to look for Midi because it is using LogicPro...at the music recording studio.
How do I tell it we are at home and act normally so I can hear the Air internal speakers???  Ack!

  • 1080p playback

I have a downloaded several HD 1080p movies through iTunes and I am getting an error that the file is too big to play on my computer and to use the lower resolution.  I do have an HDCP compliant setup between my video card and screen ( i cheicked my Nvidia settings) running with an i7 processor and 8GB ram.  Any suggestions as to what I can do to run the 1080p files on my Windows 7 64bit machine.  Current resolution i am running on my display, 1920x1080 native.

...I have to say I am not satisfied with the playback smoothness, even with SD content. My old mac mini 1.83ghz seemed to play movies better...
Wow. I had a 1.83 core 2 duo Mini that was replaced by the 2010 2.4ghz model and the new one is better in every aspect of video playback.
I see a slight stuttering that happens often though not regularly, especially visible during pan shots. It gives the feeling like the camera moves faster, then slower and sometimes hiccups.
I usually find that this is caused by the content. Especially when the person (or the software) who encoded the content into a compressed file format has not used the appropriate de-interlacing settings.
The stuttering varies from player to player though almost all of them are affected. The ones that work best are Plex and XBMC. VLC is a total mess on that issue .
Interesting. You might want to try deleting the prefs for VLC. It comes with an applescript that deletes them for you. I am frequently able to resolve issues with VLC by doing this.
I am still trying to pinpoint the problem: HD performance, RAM, conflicting codecs (perian?), TV refresh rate, underscan, need to reinstall the OS...
Yes, the refresh rate can be a factor. But OSX frequently does not allow you to change refresh rate when using "HDTV" resolutions (because technically it should always be 60 hertz).
If you are using the underscan feature, it definitely could exacerbate a problem such as this. Because OSX is having to scale the video output on the fly and that can only have deleterious effects.
Does your new Mini have less RAM than your previous one?
Did you migrate your user account from your old Mac? If you did, you might want to try creating a new user account and login to that and see if video playback is any different. I don't think there is a strong chance that this will make a difference, but it's always a good method of troubleshooting.
