Inability to install iLife software program

[I have searched this web site from top to bottom...where do we go to communicate with support?]
I use an eMac 1 GHz Pwr PC G4 w/512 MB SDRAM and an 80 GB hard drive installed. Somewhat over 60 GB of hard disk is available. I do have a super drive DVD installed. I do have Quick Time 7.2 on my system.
I have Symantec AntiVirus software that blesses the iLive software disc. I DISABLE the NAV and run a "cold boot" of the system so that nothing should interfere with installation.
I attempt to run the "Install iLife" program, a dialog box comes up & tells me that iMovie will not work on my system and won't be installed. I click OK and all is well...until I reach somewhere in the region of 80% installed on the iPhoto program. At that point, everything quits and, after the appropriate time, a dialog box comes up and says: "There were errors installing the software! Please try installing again." (and again, and again, etc.)
As near as I can tell, the installation should go without a hitch.

Your first mistake is having Symantic on your Mac. Symantic gave up supporting Mac OS back around 9,maybe 10.1. It's considered to be one a dangerous item to have on current Macs. Do a search in the Tiger forum for Symantic and you'll see what I mean.
Have you checked out the system requirements for iLife 06?
System Requirements
• Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor; iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster; iDVD requires a 733MHz or faster processor.
• 512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended
• Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
• 3GB of available disk space
• DVD drive for installation
• QuickTime 7.2 or later
You might try using Pacifist to locate and install individual application packages on the iLife 08 disk.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I install application software/programs on a USB - External HD ?

USB External Hard drive to install programs - I have OS 10.5.5 on my MBA and I am trying to use a external drive to install programs. I have done the Disk Utility - Partition and Mas OS Extend Journaled / erased. I can see the external drive, and copy files to this device without any problems. When I try to install programs I am given an error about the OS needs to be 10.4 or higher??

You can also call Apple and obtain a clean copy of the set up disks.
I recommend that you do a full wipe and clean install of the OS. There is "something" on the disk that is not right. You will be much happier with a clean install.
Once you have the clean install, download and install the 10.5.5 COMBO updater. I have found that the Combo updaters often work better than the series of incremental updates that Software Update installs.
    Good luck. (jk)

  • Can't install any software on my T61p laptop?

I have an issue with installing any software programs to my Lenovo Laptop. I have checked the CD ROM - diagnostics etc. The tests passed with flying colors. The music CD works great. I am using Windows XP.
I am sure that there is nothing wrong with a CD ROM because when I restore the system from the backup I did back in 3/19/2008 - it records any software that I like to install. I am using all the original installation CD's.
I don't want to keep it in the that state from 3/19/2008 because I would loose all my files plus I had a wireless Netgear installed which it was painful to install in a first place. I like to keep the setting I currently have and files but I NEED THIS CD ROM TO WORK.
I have tried to recover software from the 3/19/2008 date but they don't work either. Besides what is the point of not having not operational CD/RAM. I read online that sometimes VIRUS can reset the settings for installing software, but how this is possible. Why the Windows XP allows to switch such important settings.
I also checked the properties of CD/ROM for enable, disable and they set as enable. What is stopping recording on this laptop in the state I am in now. I have a virus software - no viruses either.
I have been dealing with this for 3 weeks now and I am out of ideas. I have called Lenovo and they said that they only deal with hardware issues. I have this computer less then 7 months and I have 2 year assistance from Lenovo.
I would appreciate if maybe some Lenovo Technical Rep would read this note so he/she can offer some ideas to deal with this issue. I do not want to restore this computer to factory settings or 3/19/2008 (then I am sure the CD/ROM would work)
    Thanks for your help.

Hi - thanks for trying to help me.
    1. I have received the computer on 3/05/2008. I have installed Adobe Photoshop, Picture Studio, Outlook Express, MC Word, Power Point, Excel, Business Cards creator, Symantec Antivirus and bunch of other programs that I had original CD's. At the time I had DSL- Cable internet Connection. I also, did all the Windows Updates and Lenovo Updates. I had Windows XP installed already as operating system by Lenovo.
    2. On 3/19/2008 I did a backups so the info with all the programs working properly were stored in computer's memory on drive C.
    3. On 10/10/2008 I have installed a Wireless Netgear with a help of Netgear support team. I have turned all the wireless radio's on, setup a network etc. I did not do any backup at the time.
    4. On 11/10/2008 the Symantec Antivirus cought a virus - Trojan Horse and stored in a Quarantine. Later on that day I wanted to open Adobe Photoshop to cut some pictures and graphics and the program was "FREEZING". I have tried to open Business Card Creator program and it was FREEZING as well.
I did a full system virus scan to make sure there is no viruses left. It was showing that one stored in quarantine. I also did a spyware scan LavaSoft - Advare and Seach and Destroy spyware. Some was removed. The programs were still freezing. The internet worked OK plus Outlook Express. I tried to figured out what to do for a few days.
    5. 11/14/08 - I have removed the Adobe Photoshop and Business Card Reader from Add/Remove programs feature. Then I have restarted a computer. I figured since I have original CD's so I will reinstall them. I have placed a CD in CD/ROM and I hear the reading but when I hit the install the CD was just spinning. It refuses to record anything. I click next/install so I can place registration numbers and I see no screen. Same with other CD. It freezes.
Well, then I tough that maybe the CD is damaged, so I have put it in another desktop computer that I have and it installs it super - no problems. Same as other program.
    6. Then I tried to play a music on the Lenovo laptop- well, it works OK.
    7. Then I decided to use ThinkVantage feature and see if any error that I might have on Windows or maybe CD drive will be shown on diagnostics. It took a while while a detail process was completed and no error's found. I also did a VIRUS Scan that is offered on ThinkVantage on Lenovo (no virus found). Then I did a system backup 11/14/2008 -  figured just in case.
    8. Well, then I thought I try again with any other installation CD - just any that might work and install something for a try on a laptop and nothing. It spins and no installation boxes, no features (most of the time it freezes the laptop).
    9. Next, I tried to restore only a program from a previous backup from 3/19/2008. I have chosen Adobe Photoshop that worked great on 3/19/2008. Nothing - does not work at all.
    10. Next on 12/05/2008 - I did a full system restore to 3/19/2008. I figured that I had nothing important on laptop that I need plus maybe I can reinstall a Wireless Netgear with a help of Netgear CD and instruction booklet. Plus it would give me a chance to test a CD/ROM if it works.
    11. Surprise! After restoration of the Windows XP to a state from 3/19/2008 I have noticed that Adobe Photoshop is on it and it works great. Does not freezes and works great. Then I have installed a few new programs that I never needed in a first place on that laptop but I figured I need to test them if they install anyway. They install with a ease. Next, I have deleted Adobe Photoshop from Add/Remove feature of Windows XP and restarted a computer. Well, Surprise again! The CD installs Adobe Photoshop with an ease - no problems. Boxes for registration copy come on. Completes the process - fully installed. I have shut down and restarted a computer to be sure that it works - open's up, loads and I can use it on any picture.
    12. 12/05/2008 - I tried to reinstall my wireless internet connection. (I could connect to DSL internet with a cable). I placed a CD follow the prompts. I kept the same names on the network I had before since I figured it is less confusion. Well, it was a pain. It was late then anyway plus I know that Netgear gives you 3 months of any support for free once you buy a product and after that you have to pay per accident.
    13. 12/07/2008 - I was so tired with trying to work that Netgear so I have restored the system to 11/14/2008 state from my C: backup. I was curious that maybe I can look at some network features and see what I have been doing wrong.
    14. 12/07/2008 - I came back to the same state. Internet works, Outlook Express works but Adobe Photoshop is gone since I deleted it on 11/14/2008. I think if it was on it it would freezes anyway. Again, I try to install a CD - any CD and nothing.
Sorry that this is a bit confusing but I tough that at least I can show a process what I exactly did. My question is - is there any feature on Windows XP that prevents from installing a software? Did maybe the virus caused to block it?
I have also tried to look under Drive DVD/CD-RW /Properties to see if I have enabled or disabled any recording features. It says the device is working properly.
I have checked a C: Drive properties to see if anything is checked disabled - nothing that I could not find .
Honestly, this is a first time that I could not figured out what is wrong. I am not so technical in terms of networks but I use computers a lot and I can set basic features and use many graphic programs.
If anyone can offer me some suggestions I really appreciate. If I can fix that I would have to restore to 3/19/2008 because the CD/ROM was installing then and maybe call Wireless Netgear people so they can walk me through again and pay them the fee.
    Thanks.

  • Re-installing iLife

    hello,
I am trying to clean re-install iLife softwares.
I have deleted (iweb, garageband, idvd. iphoto, imovie) from the application folder.
but in order to make a proper clean install, is there other things I need to delete before I install
them all?  When I checked the customize installment I saw "CPU Help Files" and "Sounds and Jingles"
Where can I locate these two to delete them before I start the clean re-installment.
(the reason I'm re-installing iLife is cause, I installed the same softwares (rewrote them over the previous softwares, which lessen my
empty HD space, and I simply did not wanted to take over the empty HD spaces in vain, so decided to clean re-install them)
I would appreciate your informations. thanks.

OK I see now why you wanted to use Pacifist: not because you were looking for infos about the hidden files and about Pacifist itself, but because you were wrongly advised in the past that restoring your bundled Apple software had to be done using Pacifist when there are much easier, "macish" ways.
    {quote:} demeaning{quote}
It's not. I stated it clear on top that my reply was not to you, rather to the other people who will read this and are looking for the simple, straightforward answer.
I didn't know you are "not a Mac expert". I really thought your question was about specifically using Pacifist.
    {quote:} This is supposed to be a help forum, not to chastise users for asking legitimate questions{quote}
...and I would be sorry indeed and would apologize if it was the case.
I can be sorry only about Frank's "lighten up" that seems too harsh perhaps, so I'd say "sorry" about that
    Now that things are clear,
please read my first reply up there, it has a simple answer that doesn't need to tinker with Pacifist.
Enjoy your Mac and the Apple Forums,
one of the best places on the net, where newbies certainly are respected and can get simple, polite answers, just like the Mac spirit does with the computers:
Not having to tinker and be a genius just to use your Mac.
    Best regards,
    :-)Axel
PS: If someone knows which files exactly, using Pacifist, I'd still be happy to learn that myself (as an aside).

  • Ilife not installing from Software install DVD

    Hi,
I have a G5 that came preinstalled with 10.3 and the iLife programs (iphoto, iDVD, etc). Over time, I upgraded to 10.3.9. Recently my computer was having problems, so I did an erase and install from the original Software install and restore DVD to 10.3 (my computer came with one dvd). Now my computer has iphoto 2.0 and no iDVD. I can't open iphoto because i had been using a more recent version. I'm pretty sure my computer came with the iLife 04 apps, why won't it install them from the original software DVD?
Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks, that was helpful. I was able to see that my Installation install and restore DVD only has iPhoto 2, and no iDVD.
I found the box that my computer came in and it says that I should have the iLife 04 programs. The only thing I can figure is that I got a seperate iLife DVD with the computer, and have lost it. I can't think of any reason that software would be missing from the install DVD.

  • Will upgrading on to OS X Mavericks (from Snow Leopard 10.6.8) affect the running of the installed 3rd party softwares/programs?

I have just received an email encouraging me to upgrading on to OS X Mavericks (from Snow Leopard 10.6.8). Currently I do have in my computer several 3rd party software and programs (from Adobestuff, finalcut Pro, MS Office, ILife etc.
Will upgrading to OS X Mavericks affect the running of these software /programs?  Will I need to also upgrade these softwares?

There may be issues with compatibilty, as with any OS upgrade. Snow leopard (10.6.N) includes a piece of software from Apple called Rosetta. This software allows older PowerPC applications to run on Intel based Macs. This software does not run on any OS X higher than the latest Snow Leopard, 10.6.8. You can see if you have any of programs that require Rosetta installed by bringing up the "System Information" application through spotlight (click on the magnifying glass icon on the upper right, type System Information in the search field and select the application thta is found).
Once in System Information select "Applications" under "Software" near the bottom of the list. Scroll through the list of applications and if any indicate that they are PowerPC based then they will not run under Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have a new iMac..purchased 7 days ago.You have made change it says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. I purchased the iLife software and installed it succesfully.  Now when I try to open iPhoto it says that a

After I installed the iLife software, I cannot access iPhoto.  I made sure that I am updated to the newest iPhoto.  It gives me the following message:
"You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?
What do I need to do?
    Thanks

    If you have no photos:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and start.

  • Software Metering Report - Install base for all metered software programs - Returns 0

    Hi All
I have an issue with one of the software metering reports, Install base for all metered software programs. when run it returns that the metered software is installed on 0 computers.
All usage reports seem to work correctly and I can see usage data for the monitored applications. But anything related to install base such as the one listed above and "Computers that have a metered program installed but have not run the program since
a specific date" either return 0 or are blank.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Hi All
finally found a fix to the problem. It was very closely related to what Gareth  had mentioned regarding Asset Intelligence. The actual method of detecting if a program is installed is done through Software Inventory
Under Custom Client Settings i had enabled Software Inventory on client but never setup any rules to gather data. So i created a new rule for all *.exe files and around an hour later the report started to show up clients.
This blog post also describes the method of setting up software inventory correctly
Thanks to all the help and hopefully this will aid anyone else encountering similar problems

Hi, Accidentally somebody screw up Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 Master edition on a MAC computer in the school. The install discs did not start to run therefore I can't  reinstall the 2 missing programs. I want to install the softwares, therefore I download those from here.  The downloaded program refuse to accept the serial number which was given to the school when they purchased the Master Collection CS4 MLP A00. Thank you for your help, in advance.

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.
    Sincerely yours.
    Peter

  • Can I run a windows software program taht is on a CD on my macbook pro after I install bootcamp and windows xp home?

Can I run a windows software program that is on a CD on my macbook pro after I install bootcamp and windows xp home?

    genepaquin,
the last MacBook Pros that supported installing Windows XP in a Boot Camp partition are the Mid 2010 models. If your MacBook Pro is newer than that, and you don’t have a newer version of Windows to install into a Boot Camp partition on your MacBook Pro, then you might consider an alternative such as running Windows with the help of programs such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop rather than through Boot Camp.

  • Installed elements 11 and can't find my software programs

I just installed Elements 11 and my software programs are not listed under Filters as they were in Elements 9

Also, just in case you didn't realize, PSE 11 didn't overwrite PSE 9. Whatever was in PSE 9 is still there and PSE 11 has no awareness of it. Even if you buy the upgrade it's a separate standalone version and  you have to reinstall things.

My son gave me his old Mac, approximately 6-8 years old. The mac recognizes everything on the disk.  It will not install the software. Plenty of space to install.  I did try manually installing, setup.exe, but nothing happens. Suggestins?

A .exe file is a Windows executable file. It will not run on Apple computers. Go to the software developer's site and see if they have an Apple version of the software.
