Inability to restore apps to new iphone 5s from encrypted backup
Hi, thanks for any advice. I recently upgraded to iphone 5s following significant slowown of iphone 4 which until the ios 7 update was a perfectly usable device. I am now simply unable to fully restore a brand new iphone 5s from a full encrypted iphone 4 backup using itunes. I have followed to letter the instructions on apple's website.
The restore process runs through but only restores text messages, contacts and photos. None of the over 20 other apps are showing up on the new iphone 5s. Perhaps I am misreading what itunes can backup and restore. I would appretiate any suggestions. Thanks.
Can you access other apps? Can you acess the internet? Can you access applications that use internet besides facebook?

Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created an app sync nightmare with iTunes
I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, downloading the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (erasing app data and adding apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps (when the phone is plugged in for the first time) will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be a less painful option for the simple task of setting up a new device from an old device iCloud backup. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.
LarryOk, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

thanks for your help. Your hint didn't solve my problem but pointed me in the right direction.
When I wanted to activate my new phone from backup I realized, I didn't knew the password. It was noted on a paper at home. So I activated the phone free cause I couldn't await coming home ... a new toy!
Due to GameCenter I have two apple-ids and unfortunately I took the wrong for the activation.
Back home I've reset the phone and activated it from backup. The iWork apps disappeared and now are linked to the other apple-id.
I was able to re-install the apps from AppStore for free. But I don't think I can transfer the apps to the other id.

I've backuped my phone and then had it replaced as it was broken.
Went to retore my new phone Iphone 5 and it is asking for a encryption password. I didn't set one two days ago.
I have tried my itunes password, the computer password my iphone lock password everything.
I even looked into my keychains. HELPThere is no help, if you don't know the encryption password, then sorry you won't be able to use your backup.

Can't restore to my new Touch 5G from 3G backup
So I have a 3g touch backed up today. Running 5.1 or whatevert the most current I can run on it is.
Got my new 5G touch and keep trying to restore onto it but not working.
I plugin the new 5G and it asks me to restore, goes through the process and says to leave it connected to the mac and it will appear in itunes after it restarts.
However it never appears in itunes and never restarts. Just shuts down and stays that way.
If I unplug it and plug it back in and or hold the button down and force it to restart enough times, it will eventually bootup. Seems to have some of my settings, email settings Icloud settings etc. But none of my apps are there never restored any of my data really jsut some settings.
When I connect it to itunes again it acts like its a new ipod and wont let me sync apps or data just asks me if I want to restore again.
If I restore again it just repeats this process.
Imac - 2.16 Ghz core 2
3 Gig ram

Itunes 10.7 (21)All my stuff is in my library as normal. The issue is that after the restore the ipod doesn't reboot and then show up in itunes and sync my stuff.
It restores, says it will reboot but never does. I have to unplug it and reboot a bunch of times by hand to get it to start again. Eventually it boots up and has my settings but none of my data. I plug it into the mac agian and it just starts over as if its a new ipod and asks if I want to restore.
At no point does it attempt to sync my data.
Just got done applying 10.7.5 we'll see if that helps at all. Doubtful at this point. -
ive restored my new iphone 5 from iphone 4 but the apps have not moved to my new iphone 5. how do i transfer them?
If you connect and select iP5 in computer iTunes, in Apps tab, make sure the apps you want are checked before you sync.
Or on iPhone > App Store > Updates > Purchases > tap the app icon to re-download them. -
Apps disappeared after restored new iphone 4 from back up
I just restored my new iphone 4 from my last 3GS back up, and all of my apps are gone! The folders I created are there, as is my 'wallpaper' and my address book, but none of my old apps.
I had to transfer the back up file (which took FOREVER) from my Mac to my PC laptop, because my Mac is running 10.4.11 and therefore work work with iphone 4. Updating the Mac to 10.6 is not an option b/c it's got a powerpc processor, and rather than shell out 125 bones for Leopard, I am going to replace the Mac (when I can afford to do so).
So does anyone have any idea why my apps didn't make it onto the new phone? Does it have to do with the fact that the phone was synced with the itunes library on my Mac? I will need to sync it to the Itunes library on the PC from now on(which is empty at the moment). Itunes asked if I wanted to sync it with this new library, but seems to suggest that doing that would wipe the phone. I can usually find the guidance I need through a search, but as my situation is a little complicated, I've been unable to find anything related to my specific problem. Any advice about how to rescue my apps would be most appreciated.I just had this happen yesterday! Ggggggrrrrr. I was trying to update a couple apps on my iPhone 4, and a message kept popping up saying “Can’t connect to iTunes”. After about 3 tries I thought maybe I just needed to reboot the phone.
After the reboot and my iPhone turned back on, there were no more folders (except for one labeled ‘Utilities’ with about 4 apps in it on my home screen), and I had 11 pages of apps!
All my apps were not visible because I have more than can fit on 11 pages, so I had to wait until I got home and synced with iTunes, then all my apps were visible.
I had to manually recreate all my folders. I certainly hope Apple fixes this bug before it happens again – it’s beyond annoying!! -
Purchased music not able to use as ringtones after restoring to a new iPhone, how do I fix this?
As the title says my purchased music is no longer available to use as ringtone/text tones after restoring to a new iPhone. I restored it from a iPhone 5 to another iPhone 5 after some technical problems, nothing dealing with apps or music. Can anyone help me?

I bought an iPhone 4 from a youngster who had put his own Apple ID on it but could not remember the password. I backed it up yesterday and restored to my new iPhone and it copied the Apple ID across too. Now I have 2 phones with it on. Anything I do?

when you start using iCloud on any iOS device and enable find my iPhone, this prevents a new user from using it, and also prevents anyone from using the phone
as it is locked to previous owners account ,this is also the case if when a phone is lost or stolen.
the only way around this is to have the previous owner reset their apple id by going to @ applied.apple.com
if they are unable to do this, then the only other way around this is to have the previous owner get a copy of their original receipt and call apple support who can then lift this lock if they get a copy of the receipt

i would like to get my notes back from itunes or at least be able to see them without restoring my brand new iphone 4s as i believe the back up from my previous iphone is corrupted. Help please
If you can't restore from your backup you could try 3rd party software such as iPhone Backup Extractor to see if you could extract your notes from the backup.

repeatedly tried from diffierent computers and the same error code pops up (error -1)That's a hardware problem which will require a trip to the Apple store for evaluation, unless your phone has been jailbroken, then it's a corrupt hosts file (and we can't help you with that here as it is against the forum's terms of use).
