Inability to Sync Checked Podcasts in iTunes 7.6.2
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's no longer possible to sync only checked podcassts in iTunes 7.6.2. There wasn't a straight forward way of doing this in earlier versions. (If I'm not mistaken, you checked "Manually manage music" and "Sync only checked songs" on the Summary tab and unchecked the top Sync option on the Podcasts tab.) Now, even the back-door method doesn't seem to work. (In 7.6.2, iTunes will no longer sync your iPod if the top, Sync option on the Podcasts tab is not checked and/or "Manually manage music" is checked.)
It is possible to manually drag podcasts without snycing. But without syncing, I'm afraid iTunes won't keep track of what you've played nor where you are in each podcast. (I find this critical when podcasts have accumulated lots of episodes and you need a quick way in iTunes of tracking what you heard already and don't want on your iPod. And it's important to sync where you are in a podcast if you are shifting between iTunes and the iPod when listening to long episodes.)
The fix is easy and clear I think. Apple simply needs to add "all checked" after "all" in the drop down list given with the Sync option on the Podcasts tab.
Thoughts?

Have you updated iTunes on the computer? If you updated your iPod! but not iTunes, you will have communication errors.
Have you backed up and updated your iPod? You should back up regularly. Update to keep your device working well with current iTunes.
Once you have iTunes working well on the computer and have a backup saved (find your back up time and date on your iPod in settings, or on the computer under the iTunes pull-down menu, under "Preferences", choose the Devices tab and look in the box for your backup.

I've read about a solution for syncing only checked podcasts and manually managing music in iTunes 7 (this was easily accomplished in iTunes 6). However, the first step makes me nervous -- it is to uncheck the "manually manage music" box in the iPod summary options, allowing me to check the "only sync checked items" box, followed by rechecking the "manually manage music" box. When I uncheck "manually manage music", I get a dialog box that asks me if I'm sure because all existing content on my iPod will be replaced with content in my iTunes library. I DO NOT want that. Will I have an opportunity to say OK, check the "only sync checked items" box and then check the "manually manage music" box again before the settings are applied? If there is any risk of me losing what is on my (completely full) 20Gb iPod, I'll stick with iTunes 6 until this is changed. Thanks.

How can I sync a podcast in iTunes to Podcasts app, but not Music app
When I first got the podcast app I had three podcasts set to sync to my iPhone. Two were podcasts I'm subscribed to via iTunes Music Store and one is a podcast downloaded from a website as individual files (I changed the type to Podcast). The first time I lauched the Podcasts app all of them were there and I was happy. Even though they were now in my Podcasts app I subscribed to them from the app (except for the one that I didn't get from iTunes) I then turned off podcast syncing in iTunes so it wouldn't sync podcasts to both my Music app and my Podcasts app. Maybe this wasn't necessary but I didn't want duplicates and I found nothing online telling me if syncing would result in two copies or not so I chose to turn it off.
Now I've listened to all of the episodes of the one I downloaded from a website and I want to put more, newer episodes of it on my iPhone. However, I can't figure out how to get them from iTunes to the Podcasts app. The only thing I can think of would be to turn on syncing again but as mentioned above, I'd like to leave syncing off.
Any help appreciated.Unfortunately since the Podcast App is not part of iTunes, you cannot sycn from iTunes. You have to subscribe to the podcast from inside the Podcast App.
Do this by clicking on the gear in the top right hand corner. Then turn "Subscription" on. While you're here decide with order you want to sort them, oldest or newest first. Be aware that, to my knowledge, your IOS device must be awake to download the podcasts you subscribe to.
To delete podcasts you've listened to, simply swipe from right to left on the podcast and tap on the delete button when it appears. This is done by individually, just like in Mail. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to select multiple episodes to delete at once. -

Try this:
When your iPod is plugged in and appears in iTunes, under the Summary tab, look for the Options section. Make sure there is a check mark next to "sync only checked songs and videos." Then hit Apply to update the changes and that should do the trick for you.

Make sure Music is switched ON under Automatic Downloads.
It didn't even show up on the desktop
iOS devices (iPhone and iPad's) do not mount on the Desktop but they should show up under Devices left side of the iTunes window when connected to your Mac.
Don't sync using both iCloud and iTunes. You'll end up with duplicates of everything. -
IPhone 4 will not sync Podcasts with iTunes.
I've tried to sync the Podcasts from iTunes to the iPhone both ways; via WiFi and plugging in but neither works. All other functions seem to work via iTunes, syncing apps, photos, etc but not the podcasts.

Are you connecting your iPhone to your computer differently since the problem started? If you are, try plugging it directly into the USB port on the back of the computer.

ITunes syncing my podcasts to a different iPod
We have an iMac running Mac OS X (Tiger). I have a 5G 30GB iPod and my son has a 4GB Nano. Each of us has our own account (mine is the admin. account) and our own separate music libraries in iTunes.
Once when I was working under my account, I wanted to charge his Nano's battery. When I plugged it into our Mac, I got the message stating that his iPod was synced to another account. My options were to either erase his Nano and sync it to my library or to cancel. Naturally, I selected "CANCEL". But interestingly enough, the podcasts I subscribed to started to sync to my son's Nano. Once the sync was complete, I checked my son's Nano and, sure enough, there they were.
So, not wanting my 8-year old to hear the exploits and musings of those wacky madcaps at "beer.com", I logged off my account, logged on as my son, plugged in his Nano, synced up with iTunes, deleted the podcasts from iTunes, synced up again and finally set the parental lock to disable podcasts. All is well.
Now whenever I plug in his Nano to charge it when my account is active, the same message comes up as before. When I select "CANCEL", iTunes still shows the podcasts syncing to my son's Nano but (as near as I can tell) they aren't actually getting there. I still make a habit of checking just to make sure they don't get there.
My questions are: Have I got something set wrong somewhere to cause iTunes to try to sync podcasts to my son's Nano, or is this just the way iTunes works? Why does iTunes show podcasts syncing to the Nano when I have both disabled podcasts on the Nano AND selected not to sync it to my iTunes library? Is the parental control to disable podcasts only a part of the iTunes software and not the Nano itself? In other words, can my iTunes library not tell that my son's Nano is not supposed to get podcasts, or is syncing podcasts simply based on the iTunes settings for the active account irrespective of whose iPod is plugged in at the time?
Right now it is not a big issue as all podcasts are currently disabled on his account. If he ever wanted to subscribe to some more age-appropriate podcasts, however, then I assume I'll be able to set something somewhere to keep the more adult-themed material from getting on to his Nano irrespective of whose account is active when I plug in his Nano to charge it. The other options, of course, are to only plug in his Nano to the Mac when his account is active or to charge it from a plug-in.

My Itunes on my laptop will no longer sync any podcasts or audiobooks to my mini Ipad, and my Ipod as well. After I sync and try to play a podcast on both I get the following podcast is temporarily unavailable! Why won't iTunes 11.0.1 sync my Podcasts to my 3rd Gen iPod Touch on IOS 6.0.1? I'm running iTunes on my MacBook with Mac OSX 10.6.8. I've checked to make sure in iTunes that the Podcast Sync box is checked and it is. I've tried checking communities and tried several suggestions and nothing seems to work for me. Everything else syncs except Podcasts. I can't figure it out. Any suggestions to get Podcasts syncing to my iPod Touch again? Thanks!
One other step I've tried was removing and completely reinstalling the playlist to the iPod. That cleared up the problem for about two days.

any help?Are you positive these podcasts are configured to sync to your iPod Touch? Have you double checked the configuration for podcasts from under the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes?
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes. This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab. Locate the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can choose how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.

ITunes 7 attempting to sync all Podcast episodes regardless of selection
I don't know if it's just me, but iTunes 7 seems to be ignoring which podcast episodes I have selected to sync and which I haven't, instead attempting to sync them all then erroring. I can get it to work if I only sync new episodes, but I like to keep favorites of previous 'casts as well. Is this an annoying functionality change, a bug, or did I just miss a change in how to achieve my previous configuration?
*Also wanted to add that this now removes partially played podcasts since they're no longer "unplayed", and the "10 most recent/unplayed" options means I can't load whole podcast books anymore.I've got a separate thread running on this, which Derek also replied on (thanks for posting in both, Derek):

The solution Mark found is not working for me. After disabling "manually manage" to enable "sync checked", and then re-enabling "manually manage", it at first appears like "sync checked" will stay enabled. But after hitting the Apply button, "sync checked" turns off again. -
Itunes 11 not syncing all podcasts

I've been noticing I have fewer and fewer podcasts on iTunes 11.1.3.8 syncing to my iPhone 4S on ios 6.1.3.
I have a playlist for new podcasts and it keeps getting shorter ...
I thought podcasts were shutting down as happens when life takes over for the hosts.
I looked at the podcasts from the sidebar and listed all unplayed podcasts and it would seem that itunes has just decided not to sync half of the podcasts it's downloading.
These playlists have worked since I got my iPhone 4S about two years ago?
Is anyone else having this problem ?
Should I downgrade to Itunes 10 ?
and have you found a way to fix this new feature in iTunes?

Bobbyso it would seem that Apple decided I only wanted the most recent episodes instead of all episodes
iTunes was skipping most of my podcasts if there was more than one posted since the last time I ran iTunes.
Itunes was downloading a bunch of podcasts every day ... and skipping any that had multiple added episodes between checks.

I had it set to download all Episodes, but installing Itunes 11 changed it to download Most Recent only ...
will this fix it ?
Now it's downloading a carp load of podcasts to my computer ...
changing default settings is one thing ...

If you sync the episodes downloaded to your computer over to the device then there is no need for 3G data usage, however if the podcast app is set up to check for new episodes it may refresh the feed, which could involve a tiny data transfer.

Have new nano shuffle for couch to 5K. Weeks 1 and 2 worked well but week although can be seen downloaded on MY COMPUTER doesn't play and message is 'connect to itunes to sync music' Tried to sync other podcasts but message is cannot be synced because all the pocastsfor syncing no longer exists. Any solutions please before I chuck it in the bin. Urrggghhh!
