Inaccurate 3D mapping

Here's a funny thing that just cropped up.
I had a low res jpg image that I wanted to map onto a curved wall for a sketch of a display. The wall was done by simply extruding an expanded curved line and I made a symbol of the image for mapping purposes.
The picture at the top shows the original image.
The picture in the middle shows the image mapped onto the wall – you see how it has become distorted off centre. The blue "logo" at the top is supposed to be in the vertical centre but has somehow moved to the right.
The bottom picture shows the same with the image distorted with a top object envelope. Now everything looks o.k.
Why din't the 3D mapping work properly? It was accurately centred onto the surface in question and scaled to fit.

It doesn't look like your extruded and expanded curved line is symmetrical. If it was the perspective and logo at the top should be correct. You could take a straight line and warp it then extrude it to assure symmetry. Then try mapping. Or make a test grid with center arrows top, bottom, left and right, create a symbol of that and map. This would give you a way to trouble shoot the root cause of this "distortion being off center". but I think the issue is with the vector you started out with, and its symmetry.

  • GPS/Satellite issue with running apps

All of a sudden, on several different running apps I use (which use GPS/satellite to track how many miles I run), have become wildly inaccurate.  Maps of my runs show zig zagging all over the route when I really am just going in a relatively straight line.  I've had no problems for 1+ years of using the app in the same areas, so I don't think it's because of the signal, also, other people I am with using the same app don't have the same problem.  It has also occurred on multiple (at least 3) different apps, so it's not just specific to one app.  I don't have problems with it finding my location when I start the app, it's just along the route that it goes bonkers.  I also don't seem to have any location/gps problems with any map-related apps.  This has been driving me nuts and the app developers are no help.  Please help me, I'll try anything!!!

Toggle location service off and on by going settings>privacy>Location services. If that doesn't fix the problem reset network settings or reset all settings.

  • Attributes problem

    Hi guys
I think this is a bugs in FCS 2, never have such problems in previous version.
I got inaccurate speed mapping when doing media manager creating online timeline from my offline edit. Basically i choose create offline from media manager and delete unused media from my sequence. The original speed of the clips is 53%, but after the new online timeline is created, it maps it to 1000% over speed which leads to unable reconnecting clips after capturing because the attributes is wrong. I have to manually paste back the attributes which is a hassle. Previous version is ok.
    Any ideas ?>

  • Ipod touch maps inaccurate

Ipod touch maps cannot find an address, but if I use safari and go to either mapquest or yahoo maps, I can find this address. Also if I use computer and go to google maps, it also finds this address. There appears to be a software problem with the Touch maps feature.

I think you misunderstand. I am not using the locater feature---I am simply using the map feature by typing in address in question, but the map feature will not find. Therefore, I assume that the database which the ipod touch map uses does not contain this address. Mapquest, yahoo maps, and google maps databases do contain this address.
Conclusion is that whoever's database that ipod touch uses is inaccurate. I have gone directly to the skyhookwireless website where they have a similar address search---same problem---no address found.
Missing addresses in areas which are shown to be covered is a problem--it makes the ipod touch maps feature somewhat unusable.

  • Ovi maps inaccurate

i have a 6710 navigator and im running ovi maps 3.03!i find that when i run ovi maps 3.04 or later then the positioning is inaccurate!for example when im driving, the little gps dot follows about 30 meters behind me but with ovi maps 3.03 it trails like 5 or 10 meters behind me!any comments

This is more a satellite problem. You need at least 4 to get a good lock. But with only 4 satellites, the resolution might be up to 50-60 meters. So, the more satellites , the better resolution.

I would like to know how to report inaccuracies in Maps.
There should be a direct way to give feedback so we can help keep the Maps database accurate.

yes, the India government has refused BlackBerry to use BlackBerry Maps. You have to use a maps application provided by your Indian carrier.

  • Why is Maps so inaccurate?

I am searching for a medical emergency center on Mac in my town but Maps gives me an unrelated result from a different state in another part of the country!
I have also attached a screenshot for your reference.
I have my Mac Mini wifi on even though I have a hardwired internet connection(ethernet cable). Wifi is what Mac OS uses to determine location.

Hello Borris, I just checked-up & got same results as you.

You can also just type Collage Station TX, then 4401 Sh 6 S, this will locate the place too!

  • Inaccurate map data on my N79

Ok, I bring up the area on the PC via maps.ovi.com and also on my N79.  The areas does not look the same, on the phone the roads are going out in the water and does not display the real world layout.  I have this problem in many locations not in a single spot.
My Maps version is this: v.30109wk26b02, MAP 0.1.22.103.
The original installed version was 2.0, I do not know if this is beta software but this sucks.
If I compare the locations, Gammelgården, Kalix, Sweden in maps.ovi.com and on the mobile you will see the difference.
If you have a recommendation to go back to 2.0 may be a solution I guess.

If I uninstalled the application Nokia Maps Loader from Control Panel, the directory was not removed from the PC.  /Program Files/Nokia Map Loader (?).  I removed this manually and redownloaded the software.
Then installed and connected the phone was no problem.
    So:
Manually remove the CITIES directory on the phone to get rid of old map data.
    Reinstall MAPs application on phone.
Uninstall PC sw map loader and deleted program directory manually.
Then is was possible to restart and reconfigure the phone.
Thanks alot Nokia for your support with this issue.  :-)

  • Inaccurate Journey Times - N95 Maps v3.0

When driving to a destination, I sometimes use a personally preferred route at the start of my journey that is different to the Nokia Maps route.  This results in an increased calculation of journey time.  However, as I am usually taking a known short cut, this actually results in a shorter journey time.  As the journey progresses, Maps then does a progressive ongoing adjustment until it has the right arrival time.  This correction can be as much as 10-15 minutes on a one hour journey.  Is this a known bug in the currect version and has anbody else had the same problem?

This is actually a fact of life with all sat nav sav systems. I use a few sat navs regularly including a Garmin Nuvi and the BMW iDrive sat nav. It is normal for sat nav's to predict higher journey times. Maybe because they make some kind of allowance for traffic etc. The predicted ETA corrects and gets more accurate as you drive.

I've Nokia Maps 3.09 on my Nokia 701. In this version, there's also no altitude information available. A GPS application without such an information is really strange and I ask myself why they have removed it. In my oppinion that maks no sense... especially because I had to install another application to get the according information...
The answer is that that Nokia Maps is not a GPS application. It is a mapping and navigation application that only uses GPS for positioning; that is the application's primary purpose and it is not uncommon for such applications to not show altitude, satellite status, etc.
The likes of LeGPSData (as linked to by aspergerguy) and GPSInfoQT are GPS applications, not mapping or navigation ones, and thus show the data you want. However, for altitude, because of issues with the geoid, etc you will find that altitude may be very inaccurate with any simple device.

  • Beat Mapping Logic 9 Problem

    Hi.
I'm having difficulty getting beat mapping to work with Logic 9.1.6.
I have tried to select the notes in my guide sequence but that yellow line all too often refuses to line up with the start of the relevant note. I tried copying all the beat notes to another region to use the Beats from Region facility but got a message saying “Setting this beat would have caused the corresponding tempo value being too high. Try to delete bars.” When I applied the operation some midi had moved (locked and unlocked) and there were some pretty extreme tempo changes – up to 990 bpm in a song that actually ranges in tempo between about 40-120 bpm. I tried turning the guide track into an audio file to use the “Detect” function but it was still wildly inaccurate.
Has anyone got an idea what I may be doing wrong? Is there a setting in the program that needs to be activated before beat mapping will work accurately? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum!
It would probably help to open this Nokia resource:https://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/e73/how-to/positioning/positioning... although it may be a little out of date as OVI Maps v3.04 slightly different.
Suggest that you only ENABLE "Integrated GPS" positioning method and go outside away from tall buildings for perhaps 20 - 30 minutes to allow device to achieve first positional fix.
You can enable Assisted GPS positioning method which needs a network access point later.

  • Is Maps App Working Again?

Like others, I found the Maps application severely flawed once upgrading to ios 6.x. More than once I drove WAY out of my way on a wild goose chase due to inaccurate mapping.
I finally threw in the towel and downloaded both GoogleMaps and MapQuest apps but dislike the ads, the unnecessary (for me) bells and whistles ... I crave the simplicity of the way I used to be able to navigate with the original Maps application.
My husband tells me that he's used it recently and it worked fine. Checked out this forum and could find no evidence of other happy campers.
Does anyone know the 'definitive' answer of whether or not the Maps app is working properly again?
    Thanks in advance.

    This is my opinion only:
I think the Maps app has improved dramatically since Day 1.   Is it perfect?  No.   Will it ever be?  No.
However, I don't use Maps as my GPS/mapping app.   I have GPS built into my car, and use that exclusively for navigation, and believe it or not that unit will send me on a wild goose chase every now and then.
Is there one app better than others?  Sure - but the answer depends on who you ask, where you live, what your expectaions are, etc.
I live in NYC, and for me Google Maps is the best option since it incorporates mass transit.   When Apple Maps can finally do that, maybe my answer will change.

    1) You would have to use Google Maps .jar relying on network positioning (inaccurate)
    3) FOTA updates only: http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/asha-software-update/
