Inaccurate colors in organizer thumbnails

System is Win7
PSE 8; RAW
I've been using this system for several months without problems.  Yesterday I took some flower pictures, but when I imported them into the organizer the color was way off - very red.  They were correct in camera and in the PSE uploader.  I took some jpg files and they came into the organizer with correct color.  It appears to be just the RAW files.
I've restarted the computer several times.
I've deleted the elements preferences a couple of times.
I reinstalled ACR 5.6 ( did have 5.4).
Any suggestions as to why this suddenly started?  Or what to check next?
Thanks
Megs

The Organizer has a known bug where it doesn't display the colors correctly of JPEGs taken with the Adobe RGB color space.  But I haven't heard of similar symptoms for raw files.   Some troubleshooting:
1. Invoke the full editor on one of the pics.  Do the colors show up correctly in the Adobe Camera Raw editor?
2. Open that pic in the full Editor.  Do the colors show up correctly?
3. In the Organizer, select the pic and do Edit > Update Thumbnail.  Do the colors now show correctly?
4. View the pic in the Organizer's full screen (F11).  Do the colors show correctly?
5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 for a previous raw file that you think had correct colors in the past. Are the colors still correct?
6. Repeat steps 1 - 4 for a previous JPEG file that you think had correct colors in the past. Are the colors still correct?

  • Does upgrading from Premiere Elements 12 to 13 solve the Organizer thumbnail problem?

Thumbnails do not show up after importing clips into Premiere Elements 12 Organizer.  I've tried right clicking on a clip and telling it to recreate the thumbnail but it doesn't work. I've tried refreshing and repairing the catalog.  I've even started a new catalog and reimported the files.  The system says it's creating thumbnails but they still do not show up.  Does upgrading from Premiere Elements 12 to 13 solve the Organizer thumbnail problem?

    listiak
That is one of those questions best answered by evaluating Elements Organizer13 with your specific files in your specific computer environment.
Each of the Elements Organizer versions often appears to carry along its own baggage.
One of the things that came up about Elements Organizer 13 thumbnails recently was a problem with files with MPEG2
video compression. The Adobe word on this was that this is only an Elements Organizer 13 tryout issue...supposed not to exist
    in the purchased version.

  • Color Space on Thumbnail Image Variants

    Hi all-
I'm loading some CMYK images into my repository (5.5 SP05) and trying to use the default thumbnail variant in a web application. For some reason, even though the color space of the thumbnail is set to RGB, it doesn't get converted when the thumbnail is created. This results in a .jpg  that is CMYK (and isn't understood by a browser).
If I create a custom variant as .jpg and of the RGB color space, it works fine after generation. Is this a bug? Or is there a way to force the generation of thumbnails? I was trying to not have too many variants in my repository because I was worried about bloating it. Perhaps this shouldn't be a concern, but it still seems as if the thumbnail should get converted to RGB according to the settings in the Console. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Tim,
Sounds like this may be a bug. Since the Thumbnails are set to RGB, and cannot be changed, it seems as though they should be generated in RGB color space.
One thing to try. Go into the images table, right click on an image in the records window, and select Generate Thumbnail. I believe it will actually regenerate the thumbnail. Maybe this will regenerate with the RGB color space. That's my only idea. Other than that you really don't have much control over the thumbnails.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • "No Parking" symbol in elements 9 Organizer thumbnail

I filtered my photo collection for images of a particular person. The result was 2 images of the person concerned, both tagged correctly, and over 100 images of a totally unrelated event with no metadata or tags relating to the person I had searched/filtered for. The thumbnails of these images were marked with a tiny "No Parking" symbol at the upper right of the thumbnail. What does this symbol mean ?

Thank you for this answer. This behaviour of the Organizer defies (my) logic. Why on earth does the Organizer show me items that do not match my tag selection ? The point of tagging and selecting images by tag should be to allow filtering of the images in the database and suppress items that do not match without my having to additionally select "Hide items that do not match"  as an Option. Or have I misunderstood something here ?
    Paddy
P.S  When I click on Options it shows me "Show results that do not match (9261)". When I click on that the unwanted thumbnails that do not match disappear, i.e. exactly the opposite of what the menu option promises. If I then click on "Hide results that do not match (9261)" it shows me the thumbnails that do not match. The toggle seems to be working in a sense opposite to the correct/expected one. P.

  • Color loss in thumbnails and browser

I'm running CS3 on my iMac and for some reason my pictures are very vibrant when opened w/ cs3 or Preview, but as a thumbnail and viewed through browser they are very flat and lose color. Originally these pictures were taken in RAW and edited w/ a 16 bit color depth; however, when I saved them for export (Adobe RGB 1998 - 8bit) I'm losing color somehow. They look great while in photoshop, but my intentions are to post them online which appears to be diff settings than they actually are. Are my embedded color setting wrong? Why would they look different in Preview then they would in Safari?
    Sincerely,
    So confused

    >i never had this issue until i switched to mac and upgraded to cs3. >
Probably because your monitor was properly calibrated before to Gamma 2.2 and was close to sRGB?
Re calibrate your monitor; either use Save for Web or convert to sRGB before saving your JPEGs for web-use; and re-read the FAQ as well as the other threads on the same subject on this page so that you understand why what you are currently doing is wrong.

  • Changing transparency background color on PNG thumbnails??

Okay so I don't know if this is possible but I would like to be able to change the transparency color on my PNG file thumbnails. Right now the background is black but when I open the file it is white in iphoto or transparent in adobe. It's not a HUGE deal but it does kind of suck when the image itself is black and then I can't tell what the image actually looks like just by looking at the thumbnails. Any help would be great!! Thanks!

    Jamie P:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The color that the transparency displays if a function of the application displaying the file and, in iPhoto, is set by iPhoto. It's just the nature of the beast. You can put in a feature request at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Organizer Thumbnail view

Each time I switch between the Single Photo View to the Thumbnail view I have to reposition the slider to get the thumbnails to show the file name, etc.  Is there an option or preference setting that will keep the slider where I put it so when Organizer opens, it opens with the thumbnails the size I want?
Its really annoying to have to keep resetting the silder.
Second question - is there an option to show the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen (Single Photo View) in a "filmstrip" like configuration similar to what Lightroom does so I don't have to keep switching from Single View to Thumbnail view?
I'm really new to Elements and maybe I've just missed an option setting - or it seems like Lightroom's workspace is better?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You could try this as a sort of filmstrip:-
    1. Select the images you want to review
    2. Use F11 to switch to full screen mode (Cmd & F11 for MAC)
    3. Use Ctrl & F to toggle the image thumbnails appearing on the right hand side of the screen in a strip
    4. Use Esc key when finished
    Hope that helps
    Brian

  • Color mode of thumbnail

Is there an easy way to find the color mode of a thumbnail? I was wondering if label would work. I am guessing I am going to have to go through the metatdata but I was not sure. Thanks.

    Found it.
    (app.document.selections[0].core.quickMetadata.colorMode)
This atleast one way of doing it. I like this because then I don't have to dig through all the metadata.

  • Color picker choosing inaccurate colors

when i use the eye dropper to choose a color within the document i'm working on (for instance, wanting to turn a button the same color as something else on the page), it has begun choosing a different version of the color.
must be a setting i messed up, but does anyone know where i can correct this?
    thanks so much.

    Hi likeitsounds,
Does this happen with all documents?
Do you have any adjustment layers above the layer you're sampling?
With the eye dropper tool selected, What is the sample size you're sampling in the tool options bar?

  • Elements 9 Organizer Thumbnails Appear as Hourglass

How did that happen?  And, how do I get back to showing images?

The Organizer preferences may have become corrupted, needing to be automatically re-built on a re-start.
    Quit Organizer
    Go to
    C: \ Users \ [your user name] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ Elements Organizer\ 9.0 \ Organizer\
Rename the file with the key symbol psa.prf as psa.old
Restart the application and wait for the prefs to get rebuilt.

  • Inaccurate color when processing RAW in Lightroom

When I try to edit photos I took with my Nikon Coolpix P330 in RAW format, I notice that areas that have a reddish color come out over saturated. In the same picture in JPEG format, the reddish colors are displayed correctly. Colors that are purple in real life and in the JPEG file show up as blue. Many of the other colors such as white and green show up correct in the JPEG and the RAW file. I have already calibrated my monitor though Windows 7.
What do I do so that Lightroom renders the colors accurately when I edit RAW files? What are some easy ways to get accurate colors and/or desired colors when I need them? Thank you.

As already pointed out, any rendering of an in-camera JPEG is the choice the manufacturer has made when it is processed by the camera. Some cameras allow these decisions to be influenced with camera menu choices but this is not the forum for that. one option for you if you want to make sure your camera sees color correctly is to build a profile for that specific camera so that when you take a picture of a red apple, the camera sees the proper color red. To do this, you need a tool such as the X-Rite Color Checker Passport and their software. You photograph the target, process the image in the software and you get a profile that you can apply to all images shot with that particular camera. This works best on RAW images. Also, this is only half the story.
Once your camera sees color correctly, your displays need to be able to properly reproduce that color. Have your profiled your display? If not, this is likely where the problem exists. Monitors are set to reproduce color in an sRGB color space. More expensive monitors can reproduce color in a larger color space (Adobe RGB) but over time, the accuracy of the reproduction drifts and often they start life out just a bit off. To know you screen will reproduce color accurately, you need to calibrate it. Once again, this requires a piece of hardware that reads the color patch being displayed on the screen and some software to build a profile that Lightroom and Photoshop can use to display the colors in your RAW and/or JPEG files. Trying to debug any other color issues is impossible if the accuracy of the color reproduction capabilities of the monitor are unknown.
If you have more than one screen, calibrate them both. Once that is done, the color should at least, right or wrong, be the same on both of them. This is especially true if the difference is showing up because you edit on one screen and then later, view them on another. As an example, the monitor you use to edit your images may be off. As you edit, you are compensating for the error. Then, you bring that same image up on another screen that is more accurate, and it looks all wrong. If you have not already, calibrate your scree(s) and then look at the problem image and see if it has changed. There are a number of monitor calibrators out there (X-Rite, Spyder, etc). I like the Color Monki Smile and it can calibrate your screen as well as your iPad/Android tablets.

  • Change background color of thumbnail

How and where can I change the background color for the thumbnails listed in my pdf folder?  Currently they are sort of pink and I would like to change the color to white.

  • Black thumbnails in Elements 4 Organizer

In importing photos into Organizer using the search method, I
find that all of my black and white scanned photos from a family
photo album show up as black thumbnails in the Organizer thumbnail
window. They show up as grayscales in the pictures information box.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give. Tim

Try highlighting a batch of the thumbnails and from the menu click:

Have you moved the photos recently, perhaps through Explorer?
If you do not know where the pictures are, you could find a filename and do a Search on your hard drive. Once you know where the pictures are, you could do a File>Reconnet Missing and link the thumbnail back to the picture.
The other question would be is there a CD icon in the thumbnails? This would indicate the original photo is stored off-line on a CD or DVD.

  • Colors different in full screen view

I could as well post this under "Mac OS X", but I think here in the Aperture forum it is more likely to get help.
I have the following problem: when viewing images in full screen mode, their colors are different than in the normal windows mode. The difference is not subtle, but severe. For example blue skies have a lot more red and appear much more saturated.
While trying to narrow down this problem I found out the following (and here it starts to get really strange): I exported one image as a JPEG to the desktop to see what the colors would be. The thumbnail then had the oversaturated colors of the full screen view in Aperture. When clicking on it, Preview showed the correct colors with a normal blue sky. When switching to slideshow mode in Preview, again the oversaturated colors from Aperture full screen came up.
When I disconnect my 23" Cinema Display, the full screen view of Preview shows the same colors on my PB like in window mode. So I believe it has something to do with my 23" CD.
Can anybody come up with a good explanation for this behaviour? Could this be some kind of a profile problem?
    Any help appreciated
    PB G4/1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Aperture 1.1.1

I read Zausel's post that referred to the Colorsync Utility. Under the Devices tab I was able to see both my monitors and confirm they were both assigned the proper profile (they were). There is an option to "Make Default Display" in this utility. I noticed it was defaulting to the Color LCD of the MacBook Pro. I had already set my 23" to my main screen in the display control panel by dragging the menu bar to the big screen in the layout tab. I selected the 23" screen in Colorsync Utility and selected it as the "Make Default Display". Now my full screen previews are accurate. Aperture must use the display profile for normal view screens, thumbnails, light table, but change to the default display profile when it does full screen. (previously, it was using the profile for the 15" MBPro screen for full screen views; thus the inaccurate color) Now everything is in sync and my color looks good on the big display in both normal view and in full screen. Hope this helps someone else.
