Inaccurate HD space information in Yosemite

Very odd. I just upgraded to Yosemite (10.10) on a 2009 Macbook Pro with 500 Gigs. I thought it was as good a time as any to clean out some space so I dumped 50 Gs of video. The storage bar under "About my Mac" changed 1/2 a Gig. I dumped another 20+ Gs and it moved one Gig. Both there and in System information I'm listed as having 78 Gigs free. But if I get info on the HD itself it tells me I have 150 Gigs free (matching the proper amounts that I did actually dump). So from what I can tell the Get info is accurate and System Information is wrong. I have restarted twice.
I did also download a cheap utility (Disk Space Tab) and it agreed with System Information (the 78 Gigs free).
The two attached pictures were taken within seconds of each other respectively in Get Info and System Information.

I have this exact same problem on my 2012 MacBook Air. I cleared out some iPhone/iPad backups and deleted some video to clear space for a virtual disk installation via VMWare Fusion. According to Disk Info (in Finder), I have 168GB of free space on a 250GB drive. When I use "About Mac", it is showing only 45GB free. The VMWare migration tool is also reporting 45GB free (I need 54GB to do the migration).
Based on the quantity of stuff that I have cleared out, I believe the 168GB as reported by Finder is more accurate. I have to believe that there is a bug in Yosemite - a fix would be really nice.

  • SQL Server Plug-in reports inaccurate Database Space information

I'm trying to track down some inaccuracies I'm seeing in the SQL Server Plug-in for Grid Control. Every database I have on my Database Instance has a Critical alert regarding the Space Available %. For my example, we'll take the 'master' database. it is showing as .81% Space available. My guess is that the plug-in uses the sp_spaceused procedure to get the information. When I run that, I get the following:
    database_name: master
database_size: 72.00 MB (This is the size of the database file and the transaction log, 64M + 8M)
    unallocated space: 61.34 MB
    reserved: 2728 KB
    data: 1072 KB
    index_size: 1056 KB
unused: 600 KB (Total amount of space reserved for objname but no yet used.)
If you take 600 KB/72MB , you get the .081% available. However, that is not accurate. (I've verified both numbers in the OMS mgmt$metric_hourly view).
I don't think the plug-in's use of the unused value is correct. This is space allocated to objects in the database, but available. I wonder if this metric should be looking at the unallocated_space/database_size rather than the unused piece. This would show this database to have 85.2% available space.
The flaw I see in sp_spaceused is that it is taking into account the database and transaction log as a single unit. Rather than separate entities.

This is erroneous behaviour by the SQL Server plug-in. Please refer to bug 7186134. The bug is planned to be addressed with the newer version of plug-in to be released as part of Plug-in Release Cycle 9 (due for RTM in Dec. '08)

  • DBA Cockpit shows incorrect space information

    Hi all,
We have an NW04s with SP12 on Solaris 10 and Oracle 10g.  The new DBACOCKPIT is introduced with the SP which supposedly replace many of the database administratrive transasactions (db02, st04, db13, etc.).
The problem we have is the space information is not showig.  Using tcode db02 (becomes db02old in SP12) the information is still there.
The following steps that supposedly rectify the issue has been followed:
    1. SAPNOTE 1027146 - Monitoring remote system prerequisites
       a. Imported the latest kernel patch.
       b. Migrate the system configuration of the old central planning calendar
    2. SAPNOTE 1028624 - DBA Cockpit for Oracle

  • Why after deleting all 70 gb of movies on my macbook pro do I still show 60gb in the storage section on About this Mac? I am trying to create enough space to load Yosemite.

I am trying to create enough space to load Yosemite.
I currently have about 5.4gb of unused space.
I have deleted about 70gb of movies (all movies from the "files") but still show some 60gb of movies under "storage" in "about this computer". I have no idea where these could be.
There is also about 150gb of "other" that cannot be all the files (I do not have that many )
Would be grateful for suggestions on how to create more space on my computer

Have you emptied the trash since deleting files?
How many files are on your computer, I would dare to guess that you, just like me, don't actually know that. The 150GB are files on your computer (regardless of whether you think they are not) the next step will be to identify them.

  • DB Space Information in CCMS

    Hello,
please, did everybody know, how it would be possible to get the Information  about the Space ofg the data base into the CCMS? So i need for an reporting issue the information about used Space and free space of the whole data base. When I look into the Alert tree there is just information to the  tablespaces ...
I found the function module DB6_His_Overview, but this one create only webdynpros.??
    Thanks for helping me
    kind regards Lars

    Hi Lars,
this function module DB6_HIS_OVERVIEW is the dataprovider of the DB02 overview screen of database history. There are two disadvantages if you use it
    1. It does not reflect the current state but provides only data of the last collected history
    2. It is not an officially relased function module and might change in the future
Alternatively you could use the new adminstrative SQL tablefunctions and views provided by DB2 9 via some EXEC SQL. E.g. there is the SNAPTBSP_PART administrative view. It returns used and free space information in terms of PAGES. So you need some join with SYSCAT.TABLESPACES like
    select sum(v.tbsp_used_pages * (s.pagesize / 1024 ) )
    from SYSIBMADM.SNAPTBSP_PART as v,syscat.tablespaces as s
    where v.tbsp_name = s.tbspace
For DB2 8.2 this view is not yet available but there is a similar table function snap_get_tbsp_part, which will also work
    Best regards
    Ralf

  • I have OsX 10.6.8, and imac 2007-08, and enough disk space to download yosemite but still Apple tells something is wrong and generates a list of maybes but not a specific reason. Any ides as to how to pin point the problem of the upgrade?

Want to upgrade from 10.6.8 to yosemite  and I have a imac 2007, and enough disk space. but when trying to download, I get a "I can't" due to a list of possible issues, but how to isolate the problem?
    Thanks,
    josefromaptos

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

  • Not enough space to install Yosemite, after I've already began installing it.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and I began upgrading to Yosemite last night. Before it finished installing I closed my laptop and went to sleep. When I opened it back up the installation process did not resume, so I forced it to shut down. Now when I turn it on it tells me that I do not have enough space to install it on my hard drive. I have been restarting it, but it will not let me exit the installation set up process, but now I cannot install it because I don't have enough space. It allows me to go into disk utility mode, but I don't have a back up of my system. Can anyone help? I would prefer not to lose all my info but I understand that this is a possibility. I just want to make sure I do the right thing if I can get out of this mess. If I go buy an external hard drive, could I plug it in and install Yosemite on the external?
    THanks for any help.

    Are you following these directions?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5872
What you may have to do is click on the HDD icon and check the bottom of the display where the Permissions are displayed.  You may have to make changes there.
    Ciao.

  • What is the best way to create space for a Yosemite download?

What are the best ways to create space for the download of Yosemite.  I can't install it as I don't have enough space.

Did you empty Trash?  Very important!
How much space do you have available?  Click in the HDD icon on the desktop, COMMAND+I.
    Also try a Safe Boot:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
That will temporarily create some additional space.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro Hard Drive Space Information

How do you check for the remaining hard drive space on the MacBook Pro, with the new OS X Lion installed?  I used to be able to see the information on my remaining hard drive space, using Finder, but that was when my OS was still Snow Leopard.  Please help.  Thank you very much.

You can also use About This Mac.
In the top left, select the apple icon, go to about this mac, and chose more info when the screen pops up
on the top menu bar, chose "Storage" It will show you what's on your harddrive, and how much space you have left.

  • Difference in space available in Yosemite

Machine: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013), 8 GB RAM, 256 HDD, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
Here's the issue: I'm seeing a discrepancy between the space available I have in Finder versus everywhere else. Finder tells me that I have 141 GB of free space. That doesn't comport with anything else. The storage section in About this Mac says I only have 43 GB available, as does Daisy Disk. I've attached screenshots for your review.
Looking at the storage section, I see that "Backups" is hogging a whopping 97 GB. I use Backblaze for cloud, rotate three separate hard drives for back up, and have another permanently attached for Time Machine.
So, um, what gives? Is there any way I can free up this space? Where might someone find this magical "Backups" folder in OS X? I don't sync either my iPhone or iPad with my MacBook, so I don't have a Mobile Sync folder, which was my first guess.
    (Finder window)
(Storage section of About this Mac -- see "Backups" section, which is sucking up 97 GB of space)
(Daisy Disk -- if you add up the Users + System and so forth, it doesn't add up to 206 GB -- so where's this mysterious space?)
Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

OS X makes "local snapshots" in Mac laptops if you have enabled Time Machine. Local snapshots are "backups" made in the internal hard drive, and they may take a lot of space. See -> http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
You should not be worried about that. Local snapshots are automatically deleted when you need more storage, but if you want you can delete them or disable them.

  • Tables space information in datasource

    Hello all,
We need to develop a generic data source that is extracting data from DB02 (tablespace information). We are interested in the fields from system table DBA_TABLESPACES like: Size, free, used, max size, total free space, total used.
Could anyone help on this issue?
    Thank you
    Ramona

    Hi ,
You can create a generic datasource on a table/view.
Use transaction Rso2 to create the same.
    Select maintain generic DataSources.
A new screen will be opened giving a table related application component under in the application. Select table/view push button.
    Give the table name.
    Save and generate the DataSource.
Select the witch fields are transferred to bw.
    Generate the DataSource.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • CCMS: where does CCMS collects the database space information from?

    Hi,
We are experiencing a kind of inconsistency in the data that CCMS is collecting for the space tablespaces related MTE's. Here is the thing:
    - RZ20 > SAP CCMS Monitoring Templates > Database :  will show the PSAPSRQ tablespace at 94% (which is wrong)
    - DB02 will show the same tablespace at 88% (which is the correct value)
    - BRSPACE will also show the 88% (the correct value)
Note that CCMS is do active and collecting (the value is not obsolete as you can actually see the timestamp being updated for the respective used space MTE).
Do you know why are we seeing this inconsistency? Where does CCMS collect the tablespace information and how often?
Any ideas or help to avoid this inconsistency will be helpful, as basically CCMS is sending us false alerts/emails.
    Thanks and regards

    Jesus,
I just came across this issue myself after assuming that I was collecting the correct data.   The problem is that SAP is collecting the column Total Used (%) in DB02 instead of Used (%).   You should see your 94% as reported in CCMS in the Total Used column in DB02.
What we need is the Used (%) column which is much more critical than the Total Used (%).
I have not found an MTE to report this data.    Until then, we have to manually check every server for Tablespace levels instead of in our Central CCMS.
If you have a solution, please send.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Disk space information

After deleting a lot of movies (about 50Gb) and emptying the trash, running maintenace scripts and re-booting twice, I get the following information:
The MacIntosh HD information seems correct, so both the Activity Monitor and Disk Utility are displaying old data.

I've just found more information at About this Mac>More Info>Storage
It seems that the deleted 50Gb is now in the "Backup" sector of the bar chart, unless it is this space now being used by Time Machine Snapshots. There is still a discrepancy between Get Info, Disk Utility and Activity Monitor.
Finding out how much disk space you actually have may not be so easy now Snapshots uses any free space for itself. I submitted a Bug Report.
