Inactive links on published site

I've just done a major overhaul on my home page, uploaded it to .mac, and found that none of the links work.
http://web.mac.com/ejdw/iWeb/ejdw/ejdw%20Home.html
Each photograph is a link to a separate page. Each photo has a (smaller) text box in front of it.
It works fine within iWeb! I've also uploaded it twice and tested it in Safari and Firefox.
I've never experienced this problem before.
Any ideas? Many thanks
Sashina

People made this common mistake, by disabling nav bar and header.
You placed all your images and links inside nav bar layer, because you couldn't see where nav layer ends and body layer starts. See my post in this thread:

thank you for the quick response. i erased and my drive and re-installed almost everything in the hopes of rectifying an ongoing and annoying problem and i don't have the AppSupport>iweb pathway available to me. how do i find a link to log onto .mac when i re-publish this my iWeb site to .mac?

  • After I publish IWeb, unwanted hyperlinks show up in the published site.   How do I get rid of this worm?

I have noticed that no matter how hard I try to rid my published site of these hyperlinks (that I've never put in) certain words within the published site are highlighted and underlined and link to another source trying to sell something.  I've never put this in and think there is some kind of virus or worm on my Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion.  I've even deleted pages and started from scratch with a new page.  They are still showing up and multiplying.  HELP!  I'm on a Windows computer right now and don't know how to take a screen shot to show you how it works.  I hope my description is enough.

This has nothing to do with iWeb. These links are added on the server- probably due to the fact that you are using a "free" hosting service.

  • Publish site changes edits every folder in "entries" directory

I utilize Lytebox slideshows in my blog entries and have an issue with MobileMe erasing the necessary Lytebox files from every blog Entries directory (Web/Sites/Site Name/Site Name/Entires/Year/Month).
I always update my website via Files>Publish Site Changes. I publish to MobileMe so that I can make my site private.
I expect MobileMe to overwrite the files in the Entries folder for the specific blog entry I have created/changed, but why are the Lytebox files erased from every single Entries folder? I just did a test by making a minor change to a blog entry, publishing site changes and then using Cyberduck to check the Entries directory. Sure enough, every folder in that directory was modified.
As a result, every time I make any changes to my website, I have to upload the Lytebox files to every Entries folder, currently I have 15 of them.
Any reason MobileMe is doing this? Can I avoid this from happening? If not, I'll post another question about how to quickly and automatically upload the lytebox files to every Entries folder.
    Thank you.

Any 3rd party files/folders used for java based slideshows in an iWeb site should be placed in the iDisk/Web/Sites folder and linked to there and NOT in the site's folder itself for the very reason you're experiencing. That is, they get deleted when the site is republished. It's the nature of iWeb.
You should use the following URL to link to a particular file in the Lytebox folder (assuming that folder is named Lytebox): http://web.me.com/MobileMeAccount_Name/Lytebox/Filename.

  • How do I link an iWeb site to a Yahoo store?

    Hi all,
I designed an iWeb site for a friend, she is hosted at Yahoo Small Business. She also wanted to use Yahoo ecommerce does anyone know how to link an iWeb site to a Yahoo store? Yahoo uses store tags which they tell me can't be used in iWeb I was hoping to just link the ecommerce store I created in Yahoo to a store link in iWeb like a separate page. But I don't know how or if that will work. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Marilyn

    Hi,
LOL, you are absolutely correct I am moaning and groaning and you are correct about the tech suport the reason I am so frustrated.
    The website is www.papeteriecollections.com (iWeb)
    The Yahoo store is store.papeteriecollections.com
The yahoo store is set up to the point of store tags. I was able to link the store to the site itself but not the items in the store to the items in the website. That's where the tags come in. From yahoo I copied their code from the item and then pasted it into iWeb. The link worked from iWeb back to the yahoo store, but not after publishing it. So then I tried the (html snippet) in iWeb and pasted the store tag code in there at the bottom of one of the items in my site, and order button appeared. (good thing) but it didn't work either. please see below:
I hope this makes better sense and I apologize for being a baby!
    Thanks

  • Calendar view on page for Published site.

I have a subsite, and I create a calendar for meetings, on a new page I added a web part to show the calendar (calendar view). when I logged on the site, each event has their one link to details, (disform.aspx?id= something)  but as soon I publish the
page, and go and use the browser as anonymous (not logged), I can see the calendar but I don't have links to see the details of the event.
I know this work because on the same site I have another subsite with another calendar and it is working just fine, i tried and I know I did it in another site, I just don't have links in this one.
the collapse or add links show up and work fine, it is just the link to the events detail. Someone can help me?

I did a test in my environment with anonymous access in the publish site and the event is in the calendar.
For a better troubleshooting, I suggest you do as followings:
    1. Check the anonymous access in the site settings-> site permission->Anonymous Access->Entire Web Access.
    2. Check if you have deactived the feature “limited-access user permission lock down mode” feature in site collection feature.
    3. If the issue still exists, I suggest you recreate a calendar to test whether it works.

  • Cannot publish site changes since upgrading to 10.7.  Suggestions?

I cannot publish site changes since upgrading to 10.7.  Suggestions?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Or you can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain. Run it to open your site and see if you can publish.  If that doesn't help try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Publish Site Changes causes website to fail

I have just redesigned my entire website using iWeb 09. It's a photo website, so publishing the entire website each time is just not feasible for bandwidth considerations, and why should I anyway?
The problem is that whenever I use the Publish Site Changes option, it causes my website to no longer load. It just sits at a blank page and appears to be cycling over and over and over, but never actually loading anything.
I don't want to have to located yet another piece of FTP software to do what iWeb is supposed to do out of the box.
The only way to fix this issue that I can fix is to go back and publish the entire website. it's eating up my bandwidth on GoDaddy.
The site I use with them is a LINUX hosted site, not Windows.
I can't find any help in the forums, so if anyone has the fix, I'd love to hear it.
    Thank you!@!

  • How can I get iWeb to visit the proper published site?

I originally set iWeb 2.0 to published to a website for my business (www.globaltradeexpertise.com) and since then, I changed that site's host to another hosting company. I decided to use .mac for my personal website, www.jenniekessinger.com - and have changed .mac to publish to that domain name - which it has just fine. However, now, when I update the site and publish it, iWeb tells me that it is published and to go to www.globaltradeexpertise.com - which is not the right site. The published changes are made to the proper site, www.jenniekessinger.com - so how can I get iWeb to reflect that address after if finishes publishing and when I select "visit published site" from the file menu?
    Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... search this forum for those recommended by other users. There's a long list of them.

  • Cannot download files from private published site

I am using the "published site private" option settings to control user access with a user name and password.  This site has a page with links to pdf files stored on my me.com account.  The pdf items are to be opened and downloaded by users who access this page through the security settings.
With the security settings removed the process to download files works OK
With security settings enabled, the user name and password successfully open the site but the pdf items will not open and cannot be downloaded.
    What am I doing wrong?

You can protect PDF files with a password and user name.  When you go to save the document as a PDF file, i.e. Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save as PDF, there will be a window to set password and user name.
That would work for files to be downloaded but not for the pages themselves.

  • Publishing site - remove "current site" from top navigation

SP puts a link to the current site in top nav bar in addition to the "home"page link. If you're already in the site why is there is a link to it????
Is the only option to remove the home link so the (stupid) site link takes its place?

    Hi,
I presume that you are using SharePoint 2010 and Publishing site, if you want hide the Home Page Link, then you can hide the link using SharePoint designer 2010.
here are the tags need to made visible = false like the below line, another best practice to use Panel control to group all of the tags within the panel and make the panel visibility as false.
     <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderSiteName" runat="server" Visible="false" >
    <SharePoint:SPLinkButton runat="server" NavigateUrl="~site/" id="onetidProjectPropertyTitleGraphic">
    <SharePoint:SiteLogoImage name="onetidHeadbnnr0" id="onetidHeadbnnr2" LogoImageUrl="/_layouts/images/siteIcon.png" runat="server"/>
    </SharePoint:SPLinkButton>
    <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderSiteName" runat="server">
    <SharePoint:SPLinkButton runat="server" NavigateUrl="~site/" id="onetidProjectPropertyTitle"><SharePoint:ProjectProperty Property="Title" runat="server" /></SharePoint:SPLinkButton>
    </asp:ContentPlaceHolder>
you can use the same method for Team sites also, tags would be different though.
Edit: SPLinkButton  would be the control you should make visible as false.
If you could upload the image of your page, it would be better to understand.

  • Re Creation of Site Assets Library after Publishing site Title update

For some reason we don't need Site Assets library in publishing site so we have decided to delete that. But after Publishing site Title update Site Assets Library is getting re created . What would be the possible reason for that . Whether Publishing
feature is getting reactivated whenever title is getting updated.
Ashish Baranwal || To know what you know and what you do not know, that is true knowledge

    Hi Ashish,
SharePoint Designer has the setting "Hide from Browser' to hide the List/Library from browser.
It only restrict the user to view the List/Library links from browser, but if user directly use the URL to reach that List/Library and the user can edit or add new items.
Better set the ready only permission to users and set the "Hide from Browser" to the Site Assets library through SharePoint Designer.
Follow the steps to hide the Site Assets Library through Designer:
In Site Object Section, Select Lists and Libraries
Select Site Assets Library on right side, it's navigate to List Settings
In List settings-> General Settings, Uncheck option “Display this list on quick launch”. [This is necessary], Check the “Hide from browser”.
    Save the list.
Now the links are hidden from SharePoint Site in browser.
Follow the steps to Unhide the Site Assets Library through Designer:
    Open SharePoint designer 2010.
Click the “All Files” folder at the bottom in left pane.
Right click your hidden list from “All Files -> Lists” folder and choose property.
Now you have your hidden list open in SharePoint Designer.
In List settings-> General Settings: Uncheck the “Hide from browser” and save.
Now the links are visible in SharePoint Site.

  • When will iWeb allow editing of published sites?

I use iWeb with several colleagues and clients. I understand it is not meant for a lot of business or organizational use, but believe me, it is being used that way an awful lot for iWeb's great graphic templates, ease of manipulation with groups present, etc.
Its one drawback is that it cannot be used collaboratively. Only one person can do any editing, and so anytime that a single period must be added, the original author must do the editing, even if others have write access to the web file space. This makes for really clunky operation in the team-oriented web environment of all but the most personal of websites.
I realize that iWeb generates a bunch of files when a site is published, but we need a way to have iWeb read the published fileset and reconstruct the pre-published site so that it can be edited and re-published by someone other than the original author.
I know the iWeb team, like all Apple teams, can handle this technical challenge. And I know that Apple, wanting to create the user experience where things "just work" the way users expect, will agree that users have come to expect files that can be edited by other users using the same product.
So this feature should be a top priority for iWeb 3. I'm sure others would agree.

You are just talking to other users here. To tell Apple something, use this link:

  • Broken links when publishing

    Hi,
Thanks in advance for your time and help. The links I created don't work when the site has been published unless I use the "Display navigation menu"--when the navigation menu at the top of the page is showing, then my other links work. Also, copywrite info at the bottom of the page does not show.
I created menu by using 2% opacity jpeg images over a text box. Here is the site.

    Thanks again.
iMac 20" Intel Core Duo 2 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 Gig

James, thank you so much for your help. It was because the navigation bar I had made up I had put at the top (a seemingly natural place to put it!). I actually ended up dumping it all together which amazingly sorted out some of the placement issues I was having - again related to the 'reserved' area at the top I suspect. The reason I had gone to my own nav bar was I had changed the colour of the default template and the 'in-built' colour of the navbar became a little hard to see. I will just have to live with it until iWeb 2.0 comes out (hopefully with the ability to set the nav bar colours (did you hear that Apple?)) or I spend more time digesting info I have downloaded and dive into the XML file to change the colours. The other interesting thing I have found with text covering pictures is that I had put some text to the side of pictures in free floating text boxes, some was just on the page, and some was in text boxes 'locked' to the margin (if you click the Text box tool while the cursor is in the margin, it seemingly 'locks' into place on the page. Of all of these, I expected the free floating text box to be the one to move around on the page and end up in different places on the published site, but remarkably, that is the one that has stayed where it was put. The other types of text have been covered over by pictures in some instances so I am changing those to free floating too. This is either a tip for someone or someone else will tell me what I am doing wrong with the ones that are not working. This is probably as clear as mud but I hope you get the gist of it.
Many thanks again, my faith in iWeb has been restored!
    Cheers
