Inactive master data in BPS

We are planning to use funds with old valid dates in BPS for rechrges like fund with valid dates from 01/01/2000 to 01/01/2001. When master data is extracted from R/3, it appearing with valid dates from 01/01/1000 to 12/31/9999 in dark gray color and it not appearing under help button for the 0fund in layout. We are doing this basically because this is only way they can stop postings to these funds in r/3.
If you have any ideas please let me know ?

Hi,
Why don't you create those masters directly in BPS? You can have a different naming convention, to quickly recognize these futuristic masters and not to confuse them with the live masters.
Is there any concern for directly creating them in BPS.

Hi Pradeep,
if its combination of charactertics & keyfigures, then you need to load master data in Info objects(Characterstics) and for key figures you can load directly in the layout, once you save it , these values get saved back in Cube.

Dear All,
I got some problem in planning layout,
Now every user can entry any values to e.g. Info Object A. In other hand, i have already setup the value in the 'master data text' for Info Object A.
I think before, the user only capable to entry the value entried in that 'master data text', but the fact now, the user can entry any value beyond the values written in 'master data text'.
But ..
It will be different, if i check the mark 'with master data', user can't entry incorrect value.
My questions are..
1. Is it okay to change the IO become 'with master data' ?? Will it have neg. impact to the FOX / Exit Function / Other ?? (Because i've already made for all planning functions ??
2. Is there another techniques that user can't entry any value instead user only capable to entry the value written in the master data text ???
3. Would it be okay if i check 'with master data' but i don't have any attribute object there ??
Really need ur obvious explanation / sharing..

How to modify master data with BPS

Hi experts,
Our customer would like have the posibility to enable/disable the materials they are using for planning.
Disabled materials should not be available for planning.
To do that we are thinking in adding another characteristic into the cube as a flag to determinate which material is enable or disable, and later use that infoobject to filter the planning layout.
We wonder how can we change the values for a characteristic using BPS. Is that possible? So far, we are only able to modify keyfigures.

To disable a material from getting planned, proceed as follows:
1. Have material in the area and also in level and package.
2. Create a data slice on material and set the material that you wish not to be planned by the planners and save the model.
This configuration will meet your requirements.

Master Data Save Through BPS - BI and BPS Related

Hi,
I have 2 questions regarding BI and BPS working together.
1.Does all infoobject used in BPS layout have to be master data enabled to avoid BPS created master data? By this I mean, if an infoobject doesn't have 'with master data' check box enabled, and has only'with text' enabled, the new masters created in BPS gets saved to the infoobject? Is this how it is expected to behave?Is there a work around to avoid creating master data from BPS?
2.We have a multiprovider for actuals and budget. Budget comes from BPS which has only cal quarter. But the budget and actuals cube have year and quarter. In the actuals we are deriving quarter and year from trnasaction date in update rule. But for budget, we have only quarter being entered by user. Is there a way to derive the year and store in budget infocube so that reports derived out of the multiprovider can show year correctly for both budget and actuals?

This is wrong. If your infoobject doesnt have master data, then values inputted in layouts will be written into the infoobject.

I understand from the documentation to maintain/create master data we have to use normal BW masterdata loading or Maintaince using RSA1. We can utilise those data in BPS ofcourse..

When to activate master data

Before transaction data is loaded.
If you have master data table being looked up at in the routine, then inactive master data would not be considered and you may get errors while loading the data.

BPS Retraction for PS Master Data

Hi,
We want to use BPS and be able to create PS Master data (project IDs) in BPS. But at the same time, we want to be able to retract the new master data created in BPS. How can we reconcile the master data created in BPS with the one created in R/3? When the data is sent to R/3, is there a data integrity check? How can we complete the master data in R/3 knowing that only 2 or 3 fields are posted in BPS.
Any advice or inputs would be greately appreciated.

Master data needs to be appeared for variables in BPS

Hi everyone,
I am working in BW-BPS environment. We have to create a variable on the Company Code infoobject in the planning area. When a user wants to enter the value for the variable 0COMP_CODE, all the master data values should appear. But in the replacement type for a variable doesn't contain this option.
So please let me know how to achieve this requirement. If USER Exit needs to be seleted, then let me know the procedure to implement the same.
Also we are using a Flat file to input the values into BPS environment. Currently I am using the Tab Deleimited Text file to do the same. But the user want .CSV file as input. So is there any way to convert the file?
The user will input the Planned amount in local currency, & we have implemented a Currency Translation Planning function in the Planning Environment. Once the data has been loaded thru flat file the user should execute the planning function & save the data to persistently store the data in the Real time infocube. Here user wants the Currency translation function to be hide & the currency conversion should happen automatically when the user saves the data he entered.

Related to variable: if you want to show for selection ALL master data simply create variable with type "Characteristic Value". Attach characteristic to your variable. Set "Replacement Type" = fixed value and in "Selection Conditions" set "From" = 000000 (accoding to lenght of characteristic) and "To" = ZZZZZZZ. This will give you all master data in variable.
Related to currency convertion: create function type "currency convertion" and add it to global planning sequence. Run this planning seq according to your needs and execution of conversio will be in background.

Your suggestion will work if Payroll is in process, in my case one of my client subsidiary having no payroll process in the system.
Client having PA,OM,Training & Event Mgmt. PMS, Time Mgmt. Process in SAP but not Payroll.
Payroll locking is not working as control record not maintained due to No payroll process in System.
there are huge data based of employee master with inactive status & requirement is to restrict the changes in inactive employees data.
can we do it ?

How to avoid material master data migration of inactive materials to SRM

We are replicating material master from R3 4.6b to SRM 5.0 system. Under COMMPR01 , we can see the product status as deleted or locked .
How we can avoid the master data replication of materials which are already flagged as inactive (deletion) in R3.
Pls suggest.

Please try this ->
1) It is possible to use product_id without needing to replicate material masters from R/3 to SRM. For this to work you have to set the flag "Do not check product" in customizing
(see SRM Server > Master Data > Define External Web Services).
We do it like that and it works perfect for us. Only annoyance is, that we have to put leading zeroes in the product_id field.
"Do not check product" is used to avoid product check in SRM (to avoid replicating products into SRM), so they are not checked against SRM product master.
But this is not related to R/3 check.
In a classic or extended classic scenario, SRM will check that this material exists in the backend, especially for the current plant (location), before creating follow on doc.
As you created your catalog item without zeros, I guess SRM is sending this material to R/3 that does not recognize it.
Then you have this error message. Adapt your product IDs to be aligned with R/3 material master.
2) Try to run the report BBP_PRODUCT_SETTINGS_MW, there you select user as SRM instead of CRM and select service product active
3) Did you already checked OSS note 722600 and 366135 ? Also, Check the SAP OSS Notes - 786345, OSS Note 456753. It talks abt the internal and external representation of product ID in catalog and R3 system.

BPS Web New master data (info object value) added to planning area

Dear all,
I am working with BPS in Web.
Here you can add lines.
Request:
The user wants to add a new value of the lead column, ´
which is not yet active in the master data of the info object envolved here.
He simply wants to enter the new value in the opened new line and the
system should store(add) that value to the master table,
so that he could directly plan KF values to that new line.
I know that we can use FM 'RSDMD_WRITE_ATTRIBUTES_TEXTS'
to post directly new values to the bespoken info object.
Where and how could I add this function to the process.
Note:
It seems that the BSP dispatcher doesn't pass that line
because the "invalid" line is rejected in a step before ??

Vlad,
Transaction RSD1 gets you into infoobject maintenance and it more or less equivalent to RSA1 and infoobject althought they have some better listing facilities for infobject in infocubes than RSA1.

Are you really sure you want to give your users the ability to create new master data without any validation and potentially compromising your data quality and data integrity?
Sometimes in BPS you have to ask whether or not you should even though you could...

Updating Master data attributes through BPS

Hi All,
Can we modify master data attributes via BPS? Like we have some Attribute characteristics for 'vendor' say 'class(good/bad/ok)' and we want that to be updated via BPS (not from R/3) then how it can be achived?

Create two variables one for vendor and other for status (variable of type attribute), give both the variables in the folder. User will select the vendor and the attribute status value in selections. Create an exit planning function to update the attribute.
Import parameters
i_area type upc_y_area
i_variable type upc_y_variable

Export parameters
eto_charsel type upc_yto_charsel
tables
i_t_attributes structure rsd_s_iobjnm optional
i_t_data structure rsndi_s_chavl optional
In the code, Read the above two variable values selected by user. Then delete the existing entry of MD by calling the function RSNDI_MD_DELETE.
Now update the master data with the new attribute value selected by the user in the variable by calling the function
RSNDI_MD_ATTRIBUTES_UPDATE. After this activate the master data by calling RSDMD_MD_ACTIVATE.
Hope this solves the issue.

Update SEM/BPS buffer --- update Master data

Hi all,
in a planning layout I had the need to modify the master data (attributes of a IO). Therefore I use a planning function type exit and call sm30 to modify the p and x table.
After returning to the planning layout still the old attributes of the InfoObjekt are shown.
Is there a function to modify the data in the buffer or to force the BPS to reload the data from BW?
If you are in a Layout and change/load the master data in BW you have the same problem. You have to exit the transaction (upspm) before the changes of the Master data take effect in BPS.

Hello Pierre,
If you are using the web the you could call the function module API_SEMBPS_REFRESH to refresh the buffer. Before that I would save the data (using API_SEMBPS_POST) to make sure the data is not lost.
You cannot use this refresh when in the GUI as the refresh destroys the BPS buffer etc on the server and the GUI does not automatically restart the necessary buffer instance etc.

ODS / Master Data planning with BPS (Using BSP)

Hy Experts,
i know from Business Planning forum that by now it is not possible to plan Master Data / ODS object in BPS. Someone hints that it could be possible by creating a BSP that actually allowed modification on Master Data InfoObject.
I'm new and i don't know very well how BSP works, does anyone here have any idea of a BSP implementation for thatt purpose?

first of all my knowledge on BPS is zero. i am just going to answer the BSP part.
here is my understanding.
you wanted to have a BSP page where you will be displaying (in eidt mode) data from the ODS and you want the feature where in the user should be able to change the value and be able to save it back to the ODS. Is my understanding right? or i have completely missed you.
if my understanding is right what you need is a htmlb:tablview element (with edit feature) to show the data from ODS table and some coding in the BSP side to do the modification to the underlying talbes.
