Inbound Logistics:  What are the best options to capture freight costs?

We attempted to implement a freight payables solution which was built on Inbound Deliveries> Inbound Shipments> Inbound Shipment Cost Documents.  The PO line items were flagged with a conf.control key which made the above inbound documents relevant.
Very long story short, we had to remove this functionality because of two major issues:
1.     The Inbound Deliveries were created with incorrect quantities some of the time.  When the Inbound Deliveries were created with incorrect quantity those errors caused major problems (e.g., over accrual of freight cost to the tune of several millions of dollars!!!).
2.     Also, when the Inbound Deliveries were created with incorrect quantity MRP went berserk (e.g., when the IB delivery has the wrong quantity that shows up in MD04 and the planners are left scratching their heads wondering why the supplier is shipping so much or so little).
I wonu2019t get into the details of how the Inbound Deliveries were being created but suffice to say they were manually entered by the supplier without the benefit of an EDI transaction- it was more of a manual entry- hence the data accuracy problem.
The point of this post is to gain feedback from other customers who have implemented an inbound freight payables solution with success & understand what processes were used to make your project successful.
For example, if I had a u201Cwish listu201D Iu2019d request the following:
1.     The IB delivery document type Iu2019d like to use should be non-MRP relevant.  This will eliminate the confusion that occurred when planners run MD04 and see all of the shipment notifications.  Also, if the MIGO_GR transaction is used to receive the POu2019s, they will see the quantities on the PO, not on the IB delivery.  This would be good for us from a business continuity stand point.  However, if the IB delivery is not MRP relevant, than your GR does not accrue the freight cost defined on the SCD which short circuits the entire point of having these documents.
u2022     Q:  Have you had any success implementing an IB freight solution with minimum impact to planning / inventory / operations?
2.     As mentioned above, the data accuracy of the IB delivery was problematic.  Because of this issue we have changed our thinking so that we would require a EDI ASN to be sent from our supplier to our SAP system.  Using EDI we feel that greater accuracy would be obtained since the quantities defined would map to what is being picked or at least aligned with what we would expect to be invoiced for.  The problem is we donu2019t know how EDI capable our suppliers are.
u2022     Q:  Has anyone had success implementing this with your suppliers on a large scale?
3.     Are there other inbound freight payment solutions that Iu2019m not thinking about u2013 custom or other that you have implemented & can share some of the specifics about?  Iu2019d enjoy hearing about them.  Since we are re-thinking what we implemented Iu2019m open to any suggestions.
Thanks so much for your time!
Rich Wortmann

Chandra,
Thank you for your reply.  I'm aware of the freight condition approach you suggest & the ability to define the carrier in the freight condition.
We explored this functionality in the past.  The problem/limitations we've experienced were as follows:
1. Essentially you have to know your freight cost & the carrier by PO line item at the time the PO is created.  Both of these variables we typically cannot predict in our environment.
2. We have a lot of situations where the PO is considered a u201Cblanketu201D where it will remain open for a month up to a year.  Knowing the entire freight cost for these PO's once they are created is impossible to predict so to support the freight conditions we would have to change our business process which would be a big effort for our organization.
3. Our suppliers ship product based on multiple PO's / PO lines, again it is impossible to predict what the per unit freight cost would be at the time a PO is generated.
These factors are what led us to the IB delivery solution which handles each one of these scenarios quite well provided you have good data when the IB delivery is created.
Regarding your second post:  Thanks!  This information is helpful.
Sincerely,
Rich Wortmann

  • What are the best options to replace the SSRS parameter panel?

    Hello.
One of the biggest weakness of Reporting Services is definitely the fact that we can't design ourselves panel parameter.
Indeed, This one is totally generated by SSRS and cannot be changed. Moreover its design and features are very limited. This weakness is a regular problem for me in my work, when I integrate reports into a web site, for example.
So, we are using some workarounds, such as using the ReportViewer object and fully develop report parameters ourselves in our website. But this is problematic because it must be repeated for each report, this is time consuming and the code behind must query
the OLAP Cube directly to fill the parameters values.
I have seen other solutions like to rewrite the CSS ReportViewer. But again, this is problematic because this change will apply to all the reports deployed on the server.
So, what solution you use? Have you found a magic answer? Or you let the default design?

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document

  • MBP w/ retina 13" what are the best pysical security options?

Recently purchased a 13" MBP w// retina.  What are the best anti theft options? Cable? Type of connections? Key vs combination?

    Just your wits.
If it can be done, it will be done.
Any measures after the fact to get it back, like Prey or iCloud Find only might catch the local dumb thief who uses the machine online right away. Then they get a slap on the wrist and send their gang buddies to your house.
Most crooks let a hot item cool off, or sell it to a fence who will let it cool off and then send it to a crooked geek who knows all about Apple and tracking software. Then the machine is sold overseas stripped and costs too much time and effort to get it back or prosecute.
So if you don't want your machine stolen, dress it down and dont' show it off, keep a eye on it and think like a crook how they can steal it from you.
If your in a high human traffic all the time, better to buy a cheap PC instead, because people are arseholes to Mac users and will spill a drink on your laptop which will fry it in a second.
The locking cable attachment was removed from Mac's because it was too easy to cut the cable, there is a metal harness which can lock the machne to a desk if your interested. Costs a fortune.

  • What are the best archiving methods for small colleges?

    Hi Folks,
Im thinking a few terabyte hard drives will be my best option for a hundred dollars each.
We have a small operation here at a New England college with two editing systems that get a good amount of student use and use by myself for college needs. Some of the student work will get deleted at the end of each semester, but I need to save all the college's video.
What are the best ways to archive? Some of my concerns are cost and space. I can afford a few externals, do any of you have a nice cheap solution?
I understand if I am to go the route of archiving on externals I should have a backup of my backup, do any of you guys have any feedback on ghosting your backups, is that common?
    thanks
    Mike

If it's JUST for backup (not operation), you can get bare drives and either an enclosure for 1 or 2 drives with no tools trays (like the ones from Sansdigital: about $120 for a 1 drive enclosure) or a device like the UltraDock from Wiebetech (I use the latter). Physically install (or connect in the case of Ultradock) a bare SATA II 3.5" drive, connect it via USB 2, Firewire, esata, initialize/erase it, and then copy your files.
Then store the drive carefully in the foil anti-static bag it came in a dry location where it won't get jostled about by errant students (or kids in my house).
The savings in not getting full drive enclosures in the cost of multiple power supplies and interfaces. You pay for that once with the mountable enclosure / drivedock, and thereafter, just buy bare drives.
I also like another reply: have the students provide drives on which to back up their projects. A friend of mine has a ProTools audio studio, and part of his "set up" charge, is $100 for a bare drive that he will archive for 5 years, or the client can take with him at the end of the project (when the bill is paid).

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.
This is coming from someone that never ever used a Windows machine to make music! Life is good still!

  • What are the best practice in report design ?

    Hi,
According to you, what are the best practices in report desing about layout, fonts and colors ?
    Thks

    Hi,
It all depends that what type of report you are designing and what tool you are using - WebI or Crystal.
And in WebI, if it is cross tab or Tabular report etc.
One most important thing is that what is client requirement. May be client does not like which is best practice.
On the base of my personal experience I will create few demo reports using different options - layout, colors and fonts and show them to client so that they may decide.

  • What are the best approaches for mapping re-start in OWB?

What are the best approaches for mapping re-start in OWB?
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
We have number of mappings. We built process flows for mappings as well.
I like to know, what are the best approches to incorportate re-start options in our process. ie a failure of mapping in process flow.
How do we re-cycle failed rows?
Are there any builtin features/best approaches in OWB to implement the above?
Does runtime audit tables help us to build re-start process?
If not, do we need to maintain our own tables (custom) to maintain such data?
How did our forum members handled above situations?
    Any idea ?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi RI,
How many mappings (range) do you have in a process flows?Several hundreds (100-300 mappings).
If we have three mappings (eg m1, m2, m3) in process flow. What will happen if m2 fails?Suppose mappings connected sequentially (m1 -> m2 -> m3). When m2 fails then processflow is suspended (transition to m3 will not be performed). You should obviate cause of error (modify mapping and redeploy, correct data, etc) and then repeat m2 mapping execution from Workflow monitor - open diagram with processflow, select mapping m2 and click button Expedite, choose option Repeat.
In re-start, will it run m1 again and m2 son on, or will it re-start at row1 of m2?You can specify restart point. "at row1 of m2" - I don't understand what you mean (all mappings run in Set based mode, so in case of error all table updates will rollback,
but there are several exception - for example multiple target tables in mapping without corelated commit, or error in post-mapping - you must carefully analyze results of error).
What will happen if m3 fails?Process is suspended and you can restart execution from m3.
By having without failover and with max.number of errors=0, you achieve re-cycle failed rows to zero (0).This settings guarantee existence only two return result of mapping - SUCCSES or ERROR.
What is the impact, if we have large volume of data?In my opinion for large volume Set based mode is the prefered processing mode of data processing.
With this mode you have full range enterprise features of Oracle database - parallel query, parallel DML, nologging, etc.

  • What is the best option for tethering my IPhone 4s with my iPad? (the iPad is wifi only)

What is the best option for tethering my IPhone 4s with my iPad? (the iPad is wifi only)

#1. Understand that if you switch carriers, you can NOT take your existing iPhone with you. It won't work. You will need to purchase a new one.
#2. Your only choices are Sprint and Verizon. Decide who has the better coverage in your area. Keep in mind that you will NOT be able to get simultaneous voice and 3G data on either of these, as their CDMA networks do not support it. The U.S. T-Mobile network is not supported and is not fully compatible with the iPhone as it operates on a rarely used frequency compared to the rest of the world.
#3. What in the world are "niners"? Do you mean you want to be able to keep your existing "phone numbers"? If so, that should be no problem. Most numbers in the US are now portable.
#4. Consider WHY you want to switch. If the issue is really price, you're not going to see much of a difference. A few dollars a month at best for comparable voice and data plans.

  • What are the best export settings for a HD video in Premier Pro CS4?

    Hi!
I've been having so much trouble with this issue and it's something that continually frustrates my boss. I have a HD video the settings for it are
    FPS 23.98
    1920 x 1080, then a few lines down it says 1408 x 792
    16 bit,
    2 channels
    48000 Hz
What should the settings be when I make a new sequence?
When I look at it in the window in Premiere Pro I have to contantly 'shrink' the image to fit the window, is that something I should be doing or does it indicate the sequence settings are incorrect?
But more importantly what should the export settings be? I exported a 4 minute long video and the size was 1 GB, I know that's too big.
I need to export it without loosing any quality and export another one that meets the Youtube and Vimeo limits on size.
Vimeo is 500 MB per week, sometimes I upload 4 videos per week. I think Youtube you can only upload 500 MB at a time.
I need to get smaller sizes with loosing the least amount of quality possible AND the best export settings for quality, so I guess I have 3 separate questions-
What are the best sequence settings for HD video?
What are the best export settings for HD without loosing any quality?
What are the best export settings for the size to come out around 500 MB with loosing the least amount of quality possible?
    Thank You!
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/713070
On the above thread I used the 5th anwer, and it's going to take about 7 hours to export a 4 minute video :/

    It Stands for "Coder Decoder."
Your format is like a container for your video file. Certain containers can hold certain codecs and not others. Other containers can hold other codecs. Sometimes different containers can hold the same codecs.
This might be a bad analogy but I'll give it a try.
A coffe cup (container) can hold pretty much any liquid you drink, where a red solo cup (container) won't hold scolding water. So, the coffe cup would be your container of choice most likely because it has the most options for liquids (codecs). But, you might want a red solo cup for just a single crappy beer at a party (a moderate quality streaming video on the web). In that case, you don't need all the optoins of another container.
In Premiere Pro CC H.264 is a Container and the Codec in one option. This has been streamlined for web distrobution of video to be played in browsers without things like Flash or special players.
Were as if you choose the QuickTime Container there are over 40 codec optoins (at least on my machine with additinal ones installed) but you may run into an issue where your browser doesn't support QuickTime playback.
I would say that your container is for compatability with players and your codec is taken into consideration when looking at the quality of the compression.
Yesteraday I wrote a blog entery on Exporting from Premiere Pro and found that the MPEG-4 codec inside of the QuickTime container gave me much richer colors than the H.264 container/codec option.
I posted the link before but here it is:

  • What are the best settings for ripping cd's in the AAC format?

I have researched and found out that the AAC format rules over the MP3 format as fas as sound quality goes with lossy formats. Example: AAC at 128 is better than MP3 at 160 as so forth. My questions are: What are the best settings for ripping cd's in the AAC format? Will I be able to burn cd mixes with the tracks I import into itunes after importing using the AAC format? Does the AAC format have VBR like the MP3 format? Is there other ripping software such as dbPoweramp and Exact Audio Copy that does a better job ripping cd's in the AAC format? Please help!

It is a matter of opinion, but I suggest 256 kb/s, CBR, and leave all other settings on automatic.
Will I be able to burn cd mixes with the tracks I import into itunes after importing using the AAC format?
Yes. Just put them in a playlist and burn.
Does the AAC format have VBR like the MP3 format?
Yes. You will see it as an option in the Import Settings.
Is there other ripping software such as dbPoweramp and Exact Audio Copy that does a better job ripping cd's in the AAC format?
EAC does a better job of correcting errors in damaged CDs, but for normal CDs iTunes does a fine job of ripping to AAC.

can't say I agree with the RAID 0, if that messes up or one drive dies, you lose it all. Not to mention, The SSDs made like that aren't made for RAIDs...
