Inbox contents dissappeared

my whole inbox content disappeared, i noticed another discussion going on in the forum but it involved tiger and im on 10.3.9
any suggestions?

im not sure of my hard drive capacity, where should i look for that
Copied from Dr. Smoke's Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space.
1. In Finder, select the icon of the hard drive containing your Mac OS X startup disk.
2. Press the Command-I key combination. The Get Info window for the hard drive will open, showing the following statics about your Mac OS X startup disk: Capacity, Available (free space), and space Used.
there were thousands of emails i had my inbox, maybe 3-4000
Number of messages isn't as important as the overall size of a mailbox. All email clients have limits and the recommended size limit for a Jaguar or Panther mailbox is 1GB and for Tiger Mail, 2GB.
Since an account's Inbox mailbox is usually the most active mailbox, it is more prone to corruption over time which is why you should not use an account's Inbox mailbox as the final storage location for all received messages not deleted and the same for an account's Sent mailbox.
Using the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis is also a good idea - once a month or so depending on activity.
Email is no different from any other important data. Besides creating and using "On My Mac" mailbox to sort received and sent messages by category that you need to save, maintaining a regular backup of Mail.app data along with all other important data is highly recommended.
It isn't a matter of if but when your hard drive has a partial or complete failure since none last forever.
If your free hard drive space is not adequate for OS X to function properly (the Mail.app alone requires the same amount of free hard drive space as the overall size of the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail) for general housekeeping function during use, data loss can occur.

  • TS3899 Mail app loading portion of inbox content, well below amount set in Settings. It used to work fine.

My iPad2 recently started loading only a small portion of the inbox content, well the 200 configured in the Settings menu. It has worked fine for a couple years until now. I have restarted the device, restarted the app. The gmail app is getting all mail content and has worked in conjuction with the mail app for several weeks.
    Any help is appreciated!

I found the issue...a setting for the number of days to sync had gotten changed, limiting the amount of email that could load.
    Thanks!

  • Missing Inbox content following firmware update - ...

Yesterday I updated the firmware on my N95 from V12.... to V20.0.015. Before doing so I copied the content of my phone to my PC and checked by viewing all my messages (Inbox, Sent etc) via Nokia Phone Brower.
With firmware update completed I went back to my Inbox (on the phone) and am now only able to view what appears to be earlier SIM messages.
I've checked that the memory in use is "Phone memory". When I connect my phone to my PC I am able to view all the messages which existed in my Inbox prior to the firmware update. Is there some reason why I can view the messages via Nokia Phone Browser but not via the Inbox on my phone?
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

after a fw update all data is removed....ie the phone is wiped...there is no way of getting it back unless you did a backup before updating.....you will then have to do a restore from your backup

  • Mail crashed, inboxes & contents gone. How do I restore fr backup drive?

Mail crashed late last night. When it re-opened, it said:
"New settings have been created for this application." And it asked me whether I wanted to use the new ones or the old ones.
It did not explain what that meant - are the "new settings" my personal settings, as opposed to factory default settings, or are the "new settings" ones created by Mail right then, right after the crash?
I couldn't find an answer on the forums, so I just chose one, and I chose wrongly, because now my setup is GONE. My inboxes, outboxes, draft boxes, and their contents - wiped out.
Now, I'm pretty sure there is a way to restore what I have on my backup drive --luckily I backed up Saturday -- and then download messages since Saturday again from the related remote servers.
    But I don't know how.
And I have been trolling this forum for hours trying to figure out how.
There's some trick with the library, isn't there, so that the old messages will be able to be viewed in the Mail window, instead of bundled in one big file?
I know I could re-set up new mailboxes with the settings from the ISP, but that would only net me the mail that's on those current servers, which is a drop in the bucket, and anyway I can send and receive current emails via the web interfaces. The key is to get back all the old emails too!
    Help!

    I don't understand all that. I speak only grade school level computer-ese. : )
No problem, we'll try to "connect" here on whatever level is needed!
Is there somewhere else they would be?
That's why the EasyFind and searching for .emlx might help us.
then won't it start repairing permissions on my HD, for everything, in general?
No actually, just System related files and Applications... more insurance than anything else.
Or do you think the mailboxes and the emails are somewhere, but just not in the library?
After we prepare, insure, and search as above, we can work on that part.
Also, what does it do to move the Mail cache and the envelope index to the desktop and then reboot? Aren't those going to be essentially empty?
They may be empty, or they may be corrupt, just making them essentially useless or appear empty, we don't know yet, but upon reboot & starting Mail again, it'll make new fresh copies... which may also be empty, but should take corruption out of the picture.
Sorry to probe -- I'm quite skittish about just wading in and trying things, since, obviously, one click of the wrong button can obliterate tons of data and lead to hours of frustration. : )
Don't be soory at all, the more questions you ask the better.
If worried about losing anything that may be there now...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
One queston, is there any entries in System Preferences>.Mac, even for a trial account?

  • Exchange OWA inbox contents deleted- when accessed by Iphone 5

My university uses Exchange/Outlook and has the OWA (Outlook Web Access) site available for checking email when offsite.
Starting last month I found that when I use my Iphone to view my OWA mail that the entire contents of my Inbox on the Exchange server instantly deletes. When new emails arrive and I check them again in the OWA, they vanish after a couple of seconds. When I log into the OWA from a laptop the messages really are gone. But if I go into 'recover deleted items' I'm able to restore them. The question is what is causing this behavior?
    - When I configure my Iphone 5 account I simply go to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calenders/Add account/Exchange.
    - There's no option to make this a POP or IMAP account, select auto discovery, or delete upon reading...this is not Apple Mail...the phone simply auto configures to use https...very basic.
    - I have no rules set on my desktop Outlook client.
    - Logging into my OWA works normally, its only when I view it from my iphone that the inbox is deleted.
My Exchange admin is stumped. There seems to be a lot of complaints about this online but no solutions. Anyone have any ideas?

and sometimes maybe related to an Exchange Problem.

for me the "AutomateProcessing" value on the mailbox was right,
so I looked for an iPhone issue...

  • Lost my inbox content and all my discussion history! Anyone else too?

This new forum update caused my inbox to be emptied, and I also lost my discussion lists history. Are these lost forever? If so, I'd be seriously ticked off. I have lines with other users cut off now.
Anyone else experiencing this? So far this new forum update is not going well for me.
Will this be fixed? And I mean, it should be fixed ASAP!

Plus there seems no way of editing a reply OR seeing who has replied without clicking into the original thread.
EDITED: have found 'edit' under 'actions' - bottom left corner of post - its not exactly very obvious though being as it's small and not even in bold like 'reply'. Group them all together in one place.
I know people don't like change but I've only been on for about 10mins and its not looking very good.
I'm still getting logged out automatically. Getting some kind of red warning saying 'save content due to an error'

  • Mail stops talking to POP server and deletes inbox contents

Mail has just started playing up: first by refusing to talk to (download from) my pop server (onetel) and then by deleting all the messages in my inbox. The connection doctor says everything is ok and even 'get info' will list messages on the pop server. Entourage also works fine too. However perhaps most annoyingly, many of the messages started saying The message from xxx concerning “yyy” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it. I have tgried a number of things ( eg rebuild and synchronise) which have perhaps resulted in a load of stuff being deleted.
Any suggestions as to what has happened and how to fix it? Any clues on how to retrieve the lost emails would be especially welcome!
    ibook 12" G4 1.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Mail 2.1

In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail and find your
one or more POP account folders. Control-click on
each such POP folder, and choose Get Info -- what
size is reported? Open the POP folder, and find the
INBOX.mbox folder -- open it and report the files and
folder within, without listing the files in the
    Messages folder.
    Ernie
    Hi,
the pop folder reports a sze of 868kb and the INBOX.mbox folder contains only an Info.plist file and a messages folder.
As well as the messages in the inbox, all but one of those that were in the sent folder are also missing. Spotlighting for the missing e-mails turns up nothing either.
I am most mystified that Mail appears to have deleted messages without warning and without putting them somewhere sensible like the Deleted messages folder or the Trash! Could it be happening if the synchronise button is hit?
The POP connection problem is also a complete mystery - in fact it is currently working fine!

  • Outlook 2013, some inbox contents disappear (although seen a while ago), until Outlook restarts

This happened recently on two different machines.
    Connected to exchange 2010, windows 8.1 x64.
People lost some of their inbox items, although they did see those items a few minutes before. A search doesn't find them.
Closing and opening Outlook brings them back.
    Heard that before?
    Ideas?
    NLS

    Thanks for the update.
Do you have any add-in installed with your Outlook? Do you have any security program installed? Please disable all add-ins in Outlook's File > Options > Add-ins and make sure your
security program is not integrated with your Outlook, and then check the issue again.
    Thanks,

  • Problem:  Apps won't open, Music, Movies iPod contents dissappear

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
The other day, I just turned off my phone and turned it back on. Then all my downloaded apps stopped working. I would try to open and they would begin to open only to go back to my iPhone screen.
Then I noticed all iPod contents (Movies, music, Audiobooks) were gone. I ended up restoring my phone which worked temporarily.
It happened again yesterday. Had to restore again.
It happened again just now. Can't restore right now.
I have many applications 40+. I guess it could be one of those causing it but I'm also thinking it might be a hardware issue.
Anyone else have this or a similar problem?
    Thanks!

Does your apps work? I'm guessing they don't.
Just uninstall all your apps through iTunes. It will take forever but once its done, check your music. If its still missing, power off your phone and power it on.
The music should return. If it didn't, you might have to restore it. You can contact Apple if you like.
Then go through and install the apps you want one at a time. Don't go too much over 20. If you install too many, you will have the problem again and you'll have to repeat the steps above.
Hopefully the next update will fix the problem. I think I read some places where downgrading to iTunes 7.7 fixed their issue but I didn't go through all that.
