Inbox help

My inbox keeps automatically deteling my old email, is there any way to stop or limit this?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The best way is to set up a new account for your wife.  When she logs in, she'll have her own email, documents, etc.
System Preferences > Accounts > click the padlock to unlock > supply the admin password > click the "+" icon below the list of users to add a new one.

  • IPhone mail automatically downloads attachments when checking inbox, help ?

Phone consuming massive amounts of data. Noticed when going to inbox attachements are fully downloaded before opening individual mail. Can't turn this off. Apple UK says this is normal. I can't beleive this. I have received mail On a handset for 10 yrs and every model prompted me to download attachments. Never used more than 100mb in a month. With iPhone I'm now using over 50mb per day. This is outrageous as email on the move is a necessity for me however I like to choose what I receive. Feels like I have bought an inkjet printer that takes rippoff cartridges. I've turned off push mail , set download remote images to off, set preview to 2 lines but did not help. If I go to inbox for a few seconds then exit, a while later I hear the message indicator sound , check my inbox again and there are my new messages with full attachments downloaded and waiting. When I open an individual message the attachment opens instantly , proving that it has already been downloaded. Is this normal?if so, please apple release a feature allowing me to choose to receive attachments or not

Thnx for your assistance. You won't beleive this. Option 1 didn't work so before I went the clear device route I had a look at one of my associates iPhone. Turns out it does the same thing. We then checked another handset and same problem. Turns out both of them have been querying Vodacom because of massive data bills since they moved to iPhone. They didn't realize it was their mail attachments causing it until I pointed it out. The're milking us.
Those screenshots you sent , are they from a 3gs running os 3.1.3?
I cannot beleive Apple or Vodacom hasn't picked this up. Under these circumstances it makes the device unusable as a business tool for those who require access to email over mobile networks unless your prepared to throw huge money at a feature other manufacturers provide controls for. (no wonder blackberry has taken the business market here).

  • My iCloud acct registers one new email-- cannot find it in my inbox-- help

As of yesterday, my laptop, iPhone, and iCloud accounts all show that I have one new email.  It is not in my inbox or in any other location where I have looked.  Do I have a virus?  My software says no, all is fine-- if that is the case, why does one lonely email continually show up in my email margin, but not in my actual list of received emails?  Ran disk utility with same results-- all seems fine, but slower and one invisible email...

Firstly there is no point in looking anywhere in your Mac if the mail shows on your iphone too. No point in using disk utilities etc to find an unread mail that is in the web space. It cannot be OnMyMac if the iphone can see it
It is in one of your folders in one of your online accounts - you suggest it is iCloud account, which is IMAP so drill down into wherever you see the "1" til you find it, using any of your devices.
Regarding the Antivirus, there is no point in monitoring incoming messages for viruses that can infect your Mac. If your concern is friends with Windows that you may forward to, they should get their own armour plating. That's why you paid a premium for a better product. Uninstall Sophos.

  • IN TRYING TO BLOCK JUNK MAIL USING mail, preference etc  I HAVE MANAGED TO RECIEVE MAILS OKAY BUT BLOCKED ALL MY INCOMING MAILS APPEARING IN INBOX - HELP!!

AS ABOVE MY PROB IS I HAVE MANAGED TO STOP MY INCOMING MAILS FROM APPEARING BUT OUTGOING IS WORKING FINE. WOULD APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE.  THANKS

    Sabine,
What you report would be fully consistent with accessing your .mac account with a computer or mail client where the .mac account is setup as POP account.
With a .mac or IMAP account, if you happen to access the account from a computer or mail client that defaults to treat the account as POP, then often the further default is to download the messages, and further instruct the server to remove them. In other words, the IMAP or .mac account gets treated as a POP, and the messages are removed following download. It would make no difference how you had the setting on your primary computer, or primary mail client (Mail) -- the settings for server behavior are in each mail client, whether aboard more than one computer or not -- and would also be true of POP account selection of actions following initial download.
Remember, a .mac account acts like an IMAP account, and Inbox, is on the server, but the server will respond to being approached as though it is POP. The Dell would not have had an option to set the account type as .mac, so the proper choice would have been IMAP.

  • Lost inbox - HELP!!

We recently changed ISP. We kept sending out mail and it would go out to the account that was no longer working. Today, in an effort to remove that option, I accidently deleted the old inbox. I need that information. Worse than that my wife needs that info. Unfortunately I even hit the rebuild after doing this. Is that info any where to be found????

bad news coach, by deleting that account you must have ignored the warning that pops up and deleted all associated mails.
Stop using your Mac a.s.a.p. as you may be overwriting essential data. Use a serious data recovery program to bring the files back. Data Rescue II is an example of such a program.
The folder you need to rescue is:
    userhome/library/mail/mailboxes

  • Inbox will only let me view 8-10 messages, no "Load more messages" option

I have an iPhone 3g, with my gmail account synced to the email. It downloads the email, but I can only view 8-10 most recent messages at a time. I chose to be able to view 200. The user guide says to load additional messages "scroll to the bottom of the list and tap load more messages" for the inbox when I scroll to the bottom of the list of 10 messages, there is no "load more messages" option. Just the little arrow to check for mail and the option to compose a new message. Also if I want to search for and old message, it always says "no message found continue search on server" and then says "no message found". All of my email goes to my "inbox".
    help? Thanks!!!

I was having the same problem...I looked into a lot of obscure solutions, until I realized I was missing the obvious one.
I went to: settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; clicked on the mail account I was struggling with (did realize there where more options available there); changed the "Mail Days to Sync".
    I hope that helps.

  • BlackBerry 10.2 OS Begins Roll Out

BlackBerry 10.2 OS Begins Roll Out — New Reasons to Love your BlackBerry 10 Smartphone, Big and Smal
    From the Inside BlackBerry blog:
BlackBerry 10.2 OS introduces new features like BlackBerry Priority Hub, BlackBerry Natural Sound, and BBM now in any app that will help you be more productive and stay better connected when it counts. Plus, with hundreds of new refinements, BlackBerry 10.2 makes the things you do every day faster and easier. Here are just some of the new features you’re going to love in BlackBerry 10.2:
    BlackBerry 10.2 Highlights:
    Priority Hub
Keep your important conversations closer than ever with the new Priority Hub. Always at your fingertips, Priority Hub learns what conversations are most important to you and automatically puts those messages at the top of your inbox, helping you to stay focused on the critical items. On top of that, the new attachment view helps you organize files and documents across your messaging accounts and within specific message threads.
    BBM Video with Natural Sound
BBM Video has always allowed you to have a live face-to-face conversation with anyone, anywhere. Now, with Natural Sound, BBM Video and Voice conversations between BlackBerry 10 smartphones sound more natural and realistic. It’s the next best thing to being in the same room. We’re able to accomplish this because BlackBerry Natural Sound captures a wider sound spectrum, so you can hear subtle nuances that are lost in most cellular calls.
Instant Previews of BBM, SMS and Email from any app
Stay in the flow. BBM, SMS and E-mail messages now find you no matter what you are doing on your BlackBerry. See email, BBM and SMS message previews appear in any app – you can even respond to your BBM or SMS messages in any app or go to the BlackBerry Hub with a single swipe to respond to your email. Perfect for keeping the conversation going while you browse the web, watch a video, or use other apps. Of course, you can tailor these notifications to the way you work to ensure you’re only notified as much as you want to be.
    BlackBerry Keyboard
The smartphone keyboard that knows your next move just got even smarter. With personalized next word suggestion, auto-correction, and the distinctive BlackBerry keyboard layout, we’ve built this keyboard to help you have conversations with speed and accuracy. And on the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Z30, improved audio feedback with distinct tones for specific keys like backspace, and shift helps you type more confidently because you’ll have more reassurance you’ve hit the right key.
    Copy and Paste Enhancements
Copy and paste just got easier. Not only does BlackBerry 10.2 offer more precise cursor control, text selection is now easier. Once you select text, a pop up menu gives you editing options and direct sharing with BBM, Facebook and Twitter – so you can quickly copy, paste and share
    Faster, Easier Sharing
BlackBerry 10.2 learns how you share and who you share with, helping you reduce the number of steps and amount of time it takes to get your files, photos, or documents to where they need to go. Touching “share” in any app provides suggestions on who and how to share your files based on how you’ve shared in the past, and the feature only gets smarter the more you use it.
    Lock Screen Notifications
When the red light on your BlackBerry 10 smartphone is flashing, you don’t have to unlock the phone to see your message. Notifications on the lock screen now let you take a peek at the latest email, text, BBM, or notification to see if that’s the message you’ve been waiting for or one that can wait a while. You can customize which accounts appear on the lock screen and scroll over the icons to display the sender and subject line.
    Reply Now
Reply Now lets you respond to incoming phone calls, even when it’s not a good time to answer the phone. Easily send a response through BBM, SMS or email – choose from a list of standard automated responses or respond with a personalized note. Perfect for ensuring that important contacts are always given your attention.
    Calendar Enhancements
BlackBerry Calendar now comes with an ‘I’m running late’ function so you can instantly let meeting participants know if you’ll be late. You can even specify a new time in your notification. And, with a redesigned interface that makes adding an event easier, managing your time is simple.
BlackBerry 10.2 OS gives you a lot of new reasons to love your BlackBerry 10 smartphone, and we haven’t even mentioned the updates to Docs to Go, a new BlackBerry Hub icon, camera enhancements—but the best way to experience all BlackBerry 10.2 has to offer is to try it for yourself. Remember to back up before updating

    Africa: Starting this week
    Asia Pacific: Starting this week
    Canada: Starting this week
    Europe: Starting this week

How to update to BlackBerry v10.2
When the update becomes available on your carrier, here’s how you can update for free:
To update your BlackBerry smartphone to BlackBerry 10.2 software, look for the alert in the notifications section of the BlackBerry Hub. • Mail says my e-mail is junk

I have a rule that the domain @test.com is OK so everything that comes from this domain is not junk.
I get e-mail from this domain and mail always flags it as junk. How can I get the "rules" to accept that anything from this domain is OK?
The rule says If any of the following conditions are met
    FROM - Contains - "@test.com"
    Perform the following actions

I just checked there. Thanks for the tip. The following box is checked "The following Types of Messages are exempt from junk mail filtering: Sender of message is in my Address Book".
Why didn't this option get executed?

  • Fetching but never finishing while trying to rebuild

have tried to tried to rebuild my mailbox (mailbox was getting populated with multiple duplicate emails), but now, as I run "activity" it's fetching my mail--some 14000 messages, but it's getting hung up around half way through.
    and then just starting over.
consequently, there are now NO emails in my inbox. help! how do I make sure the emails I'm trying to recover aren;t lost?
and why the incessant loop of fetching, never finishing, and then repeating the cycle?
    mail-less in Dallas

    Audrey:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can useiPhoto Library Manager to easily open both of the two libraries on your HD to see if there is duplication or if there are some photos that are not in your primary (located in the Pictures folder) library. If there are some you need to get into the primary library the paid version of iPLM will let you copy rolls or albums between the two libraries and maintain the keywords and comments as shown here.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • In iMessage on iPad, no picture shows up for my sent texts, but does for received ones

I have a photo set for contacts, including both e-mail addresses used by iMessage on my iPad.  If I send a message to myself, the received message has a picture icon, but not the sent one.
    Any ideas?

That is the intended behavior. Pictures in the Inbox help you to quickly identify who sent the email, or message. That is unnecessary in the Sent listing as you are the only one who is sending them and, I hope, you know who you are.
(before you go there, it does not practical to add a picture of the person you are sending to, since you might be sending it to multiple recipients.)

  • In iMessage

iMessage; I am receiving all messges but when I type a messge or attempt to reply to a message the send button does not illuminate and therefore I can not send messages. Any ideas?

Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.
