Inbox showing 0 messages or correct # of new msg but old state on click

I think the problem occurs for many users but couldn't find a post giving a summary of this issue.
System:
one account,
IMAP/Exchange
10.4.10/10.4.11
Problem:
Starting from normal operation at some point the INBOX seems to become inconsistent.
I think the problem is related to switching environments -> going from LAN to WLAN or UMTS network connections.
What I mean by this is that the problem often times occurs right after you swichted network connection and start mail again. Not 100% sure though...
There are actually two flavors of the problem:
A) INBOX (yes only INBOX!) going to 0 messages
Although there are messages in the INBOX (around 200) mail will show 0 messages.
Normal measures like, get new mail, sync account, rebuild will not make messages reappear.
B) INBOX shows correct number of new messages but will to the old state of the inbox before getting new mail
This most often occurs when you click on a different mailbox (like drafts, trash). INBOX will then recieve new messages, progress is shown in the activity window. When finished the INBOX displays the correct number of new messages in the side bar an in the mail icon.
When you actually click on the INBOX, the display will reset (going to a blank INBOX) and then show the state of the INBOX before you told it to get new mail.
Extended measures to resolve the issue sometimes fixes it near-term but the issue will occur after a while.
Extended measures taken are:
- delete/recreate envelope index (probably a hundred times)
- delete/recreate account folder
- recreate account from scratch
- trashed mail.plist
- changed from IMAP to Exchange account type (mail server is Exchange)
- resinstalled mail
- update from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11
Is this a known issue of Mail 2.1.1 (752.3)

Yes, I do have mail rules. Disabeling them and rebuilding the mailbox didn't help much.
The topics referenced by your links might have a relation to my issue.
I wouldn't necessarily agree that this is an Exchange issue. It's the way Exchange does it
l would argue if other none Exchange client can handle these messages (e.g. Thunderbird) why not Mail.app?
I think the problem is probably more directly related to the Junk Mail handling in Mail.app.
I have Mail.app set to move Junk mail to the Mail.app Junk Mail folder.
Mails in this folder do not show up in my Mail.app INBOX but (of course) in the Exchange INBOX.

    Oaky, at least we got that far.  Next step is to determine if all those "numbers" are really numbers.  Changing the format to "number" doesn't necessarily change the string to a number. The string has to be in the form of a number.  Some may appear to you and me as numbers but will not turn into "numbers" when you change the formatting from Text to Number. Unless you've manually formatted the cells to be right justified, one way to tell if it is text or a number is the justification. Text will be justified to the left, numbers will be justified to the right.
    Here are some that will remain as strings:
    +123
    123 with a space after it.
    .123

    Updated Pages today - created a document. Went back few hours later to send it as email attachment - got a message saying Pages needs to be updated to open. Went to Mac app page and it said it was updated. Document won't open - what do I do???? Keeps saying to upgrade but it is upgraded - ARGH!

    Here is a possible solution.
    You should still have Pages 4.3, the old version, on your computer in Applications>iWork09. If you have the old Pages 4.3 running when you open the file, Pages 4.3 will warn you that you need to update because the new Pages uses a different file format. You can open the file in two ways.
    Quit Pages 4.3, then open the file.
    Right-click the file and choose to open the file in Pages 5.0.

    The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
    It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

  • New iphone, but old won't delete..

    I got the iphone 5s and took forever to update the iphone 5s to be able to use my backup from my 5c once I finally got it I had no number shown in itunes for my new iphone 5s and the other 5c was still linked to the itunes with a phone number and everything. The 5s works, but my texts keep going out to people as my icloud email ANDD most importantly i try to go to my 5c and I can't erase all content it says the icloud account can't be verfied it says verficication failed there was an error connection to icloud I did manage my devices and unlinked the 5c off the device list and maybe thats the reason but I have no idea how to get it back on. Im so frustrated this has been so difficult and usually transferring this stuff takes a few mins.

    You have two problems.
    1. your phone number is not associated with imessage server on your new phone. Try to turn off imessage and facetime and turn back on. When you do that make sure that your phone can send text messages from your phone number.
    2. your old phone is either not connected to internet or you are not typing in correct password. Make sure your old phone is connected to wifi and verify that password is typed in for correct account.

    Just go to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ and use the Manage Account feature to add a valid email and keep using your existing AppleID
    Your purchases are tied to that AppleID - there is no way to move them to another AppleID so you want to keep using the one you have, NOT create a new one.

  • New muvo, but old probl

    Time ago, my MuVo (classic) was suddently dead so I bought a muvo tx fm 256mb. Now, I can't use it because my windows can't install muvo drivers correctly. I've got 2 pc with windows XP and both of them give me the same problem!!!!!
    After some clicks on "my computer" It crash until I don't unplug the muvo. I can't write, read or do anything else with the muvo. Pratically it's unusable. It's nice because I had the same problems with my old Muvo!!!!!
    I tryed everything's possible. I also formatted my pc, but the problem's the same

    There was no need to download any drivers for Windows XP, it should ust be able to recognize the MUVO as a removable dri've, just like a memory stick. You can use "my computer" to install music files but you will probably have better luck with Windows Media Player or the Creative software.
    Try to rollback your computer to before you installed the drivers or uninstall the drivers.

    No ideas, but I wanted to let you and the community know that following update of my iPad 2 to iOS 7.1, all three iWork apps crash within a second of opening.
    Re-power and soft reset made no difference.

  • Installed new JRE, but old version is still used

    I'm running openSUSE 10.3 on a laptop. I just installed JDK 6u3 and JRE 6u3.
    When I compile my programs an run them, it says "unsupported class version number". So I typed in "java -version", and it said "Java Version 1.5.0_12".
    How do I make it use JRE 6u3 and not JRE 5?
    P.S. I can compile the programs using "javac -version 1.4", and then they'll work.

    As initially reported there was an unsuccessful upgrade of JDK and JRE due to an unknown problem.
    In Linux distributions, links to Java tools resides in the path */usr/bin* and don't need to set any system variable to straight invocate them since this path is included in PATH global system variable.
    If thought on the global user variable JAVA_HOME, it is for "applications" and respecting the developer/user knowledge I didn't mention this fact.

    I have several PDFs in Baggage Files that are linked to topics in the Table of Contents.  When I generate the CHM file and 'View Results' I am able to pull up/access the PDFs with no problem.  When I go into the project folder and just double-click on the CHM file, I cannot pull up/access any of the PDFs nor can I access them in the product help.  Any ideas?  Is a setting "off" somewhere in my project?

    Well, first off, even though it would be WebHelp, it would be inside a CHM container. So for all intents and purposes it would be a CHM file. But having said that, I'm not sure there is a way to merge these hybrid types of CHM files.
    If your statement about Adobe fixing the issue is meaning that they can either remove the Print icon from the CHM Viewer, I wouldn't hold my breath because as I said, that's in Microsoft's lap and they haven't updated the CHM viewer in a long while. Doubtful they ever will.
    The only hope would then be for Adobe to update the code used for the Mini TOC. The only way that will happen is if enough folks submit this as a bug via the following link:

    Until that would happen, your likely best bet is to simply avoid using the Mini-TOC feature or just insert a warning that if the topic is printed, it will cause issues. Or, you could use bookmarks and links to establish your own verision of a "Mini-TOC"
