Inches difference in PS & ILL CS4

HI So I'm working on a pretty big illustrator file (40"x104" WxH) and wanting to go to print with it. When I import into photoshop, what was 35" in illustrator becomes like 28" @ 300dpi in photoshop. I'm really not wanting to spend time scaling and what not in photoshop so how can i make it when i open the .ai or place the file it places in exact dimensions of illustrator???
Thanks much!!!

That is a little overasight withthe feature the work around is to make two artboards. But the option when saving ai files is not in the save as dialog but rather in the Illustrator options dialog that pops up afterwards and you can then choose to save artboards as individual ai files.
Oh I see yes you need more than one artboard for it to be selected and when exporting to psd there is options for resolution in the psd options as well make certain ou have that all selected and set to the resolution you desire.
Also you can save the file as an ai file and bring that into PS and be cognicent of the options for importing when opening or placing the ai file you might find placing *** a smart object is bestt.

  • Large (980Mb) EPS file won't open in ill CS4

    Can anyone help me?
I have to open an illustrator 8 EPS file of ±980MB (it is a road map with lots of layers) in Illustrator CS4. I have an G5/2000 with 7 gig memory and I'm using 10.4.11.
I have no other programs open and each time it gives the message: not enough memory; so I can't open the file...
Is there a way of opening the file in Ill CS4?
    Thanks

You have to assign a scratch disk that is big enough to open it so it. Maybe your start up disk, which would be the default scratch, is tight for space and you might want to assign another disk as the scratch. One that is say less then 80% filled.
remember the file size is large for AI and the layers will eat u the scratch as well as effects so the almost 1 GB can seems as far as your system is concerned to be a 40 GB scratch, I might be exaggerating with that but you get the idea.

  • Difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images, percentage not kept

There is some kind of difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images. The images I've dealt with right now were vector images but it might apply to all kinds of images.
When replacing an existing image, the CS4 behaviour is to let the image fill up the frame. In CS3 the percentage was set to 100% as default (the % you see when selecting the image, not the container).
Also when replacing an impage in CS4, the "inner" image frame is kept, while in C3, the percentage was kept.
Is there some kind of placement preferences / settings to let CS4 act the same wat as CS3 did, when placing an image?
    -- Andreas

Yes, the behavior was changed in CS4 (and many users, like me, prefer the new system).
If you click and drag a loaded image place cursor the entire image will be be scaled to fit the proportionally drawn frame -- a huge timesaver if you mostly place uncropped art. If you want 100% of the image at 100% scale, just click and release -- same as before, or as before you can pre-draw a frame and place into it and your image will come in cropped at 100% (unless you've changed the fitting options for the frame before placing).

  • Differences between CS3 and CS4 files?

Could you please explain what was the differences between "Adobe illustrator cs4 eps files" and "Adobe illustrator cs3 eps files"?
    Thank for looking into this.

The difference would be that CS 4 would support the features in AI CS 4 and CS 3 would not support those features.

  • Could someone please help with two differences between CS and CS4?

Hello, I just moved from Photoshop CS to CS4 and have a couple of questions regarding some differences I'm seeing in the two versions.
    (1) When opening files, I'm used to them opening in a smaller view as individual windows.  CS4 opens all images in the expanded view.  Is there a way to prevent this from happening?  I create massive sports photo galleries (often more than 100 images) and usually open 25-30 images at a time, then minimize all images and work on them one at a time in chronological order.  The was CS4 opens these images in full screen mode, it prevents me from doing this in a timely manner - PS never opens a group of photos up in a true chrono order.  It misplaces the first image to the end.
    (2) In CS, I used to be able to Right-Mouse-Click on the image's title bar to change Image and Canvas sizes.  Any way to get this to work in CS4?  CTL+ALT and either I or C is a three-key process and takes considerably longer than right clicking my mouse and choosing the correct option.
Thanks for any help you can provide.  And apologies for being such a newbie to the latest and greatest Photoshop version.  I've been living in CS for years
    Mike

You are a life saver. Thanks!  I looked in the INTERFACE area about three times and never understood that TABBED meant that it was opening them full screen.
Any idea how to deal with question #2?  Cannot set up an ACTION for this as the action makes me have to choose an image size.  I just want to have the Image or Canvas size windows open with one click, rather than holding down three keys.
Thanks again.  You have been rewarded with a CORRECT ANSWER click

  • Is there a difference in levels between CS4 and CS5

I've just upgraded from CS4 to CS5 and I'm finding I seem to have more 'space' in levels when processing raw files to TIFF - especially at the shadow end.
Heavily polarised landscapes with lots of sky sometimes show saturation clipping (a spike at the left hand edge of the histogram) in the shadow end of the blue channel in CS4.  In CS5 / ACR 6.2 this seems to have gone away and there is more headroom at the extremes of the histogram generally.  This means I can process the difficult images and get a TIFF with a clean histogram.
Problem is when I open the finished TIFF file in an earlier version of Photoshop the clipping is back.  This is a problem as image libraries often reject images which show clipping.
Anyone know whats going on?  Is there a change in the way CS5 maps the histogram?  (All images are saved with an Adobe (1998) colour space)

Thanks for the answer Chris - I've checked all the default settings & I think everything is as it should be - but I'm still seeing a difference.  Here's an example of a raw file (16bit Tiff), processed in CS5 and viewed in CS5
and here is the same file this time viewed in CS4:
I'm pretty sure all the color management settings are the same - any ideas?

  • Color differences between LR and CS4

I've recently switched from PC to MacbookPro and installed latest versions of Lightroom and CS4. I do most of my editing in Lightroom and sometimes export to Photoshop. I noticed that there is a huge difference between the colors in Lightroom vs the colors in Photoshop even with NO editing done at all when I firt import to Lightroom. I import my raw files into Lightroom, do no editing, reset the files to ensure no editing, and then export into Photoshop and the image looks totally different color wise. Any ideas as to why?? My color settings are all set to srgb consistanty amongst all the 2 systems. Any other thoughts on what could be causing this? THanks

    >I change the color working space in PS from my monitor profile (Eye One display tool-generated) to ProPhotoRGB, which is apparently what LR uses.
You NEVER EVER want to use the monitor profile as the working space. The only exception is when you make small graphics (i.e not photographs) for websites that need to match CSS code. Photoshop needs to be setup as the first image in
this link i.e. using a standard workingspace (mostly sRGB, adobeRGB, or prophotoRGB) and to respect all embedded profiles.
    >In other words, if I use the calibrated monitor profile in both the system preferences color profile (i.e., on my MacBook Pro) and in PS, the PS and LR images don't match. I'd really love to solve this problem, or determine what I don't understand here. Thanks, Mitch
Photoshop does not need to be told about the monitor profile. It already automatically converts everything you see to it since it knows the monitor profile by simply asking the system software. What you see in your case is that Lightroom (or ACR if you use the RAW photoshop integration) correctly exports the image in a standard color space (whatever you choose in Preferences) and then you have set up Photoshop to completely disregard this fact and treat the image as if it was in the monitor profile. This is not a good thing to do.

  • Display Performance Difference between CS3 and CS4

I have a computer running CS3 and a computer running CS4. When I place an image in InDesign CS3, it looks way better than when I place it in CS4. The display performance for both computers are set exactly the same. Raster and Vector images are set to proxy, transparency is set to medium quality, Anti Aliasing is turned on.
    The CS4 computer:
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Memory 4GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
    CS3 computer:
    Processor Name: PowerPC G5
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Memory 4GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
What am I missing? It is virtually every image.

"You can adjust the quality of the the display itself without altering the name of the setting."
Tried that. The end result is viewing images at the higher quality that slows down the machine.
"Also, the size and resolution of images plays a role in how large the previews are, and their quality."
The difference is very noticeable when the exact same image is placed at the exact same sizes in InDesign CS3 and CS4. Everything in the workflow remained the same, except the changing of InDesign files.

  • The difference between symbols in CS4 & CS5?!

Whenever I would break the link to a symbol in CS4, it would still stay in it's own group.
Now in CS5, it becomes it's own Sub/Layer?!? Not a fan. Is there any pref that I'm missing?
Also, whenever I hit the green light in the upper left stop light to make the window expand fully,
the window ALWAYS changes whenever I open a new/different document. I didn't have the issues in CS4.
    Please help.

Group the instance before unlinking the symbol.

  • Whats the difference between CS3 and CS4?

I am currently using Dreamweaver CS3 and am curious about CS4
enhancements. What features are new in CS4? Is it worth the money
    to upgrade?

I read the above feature list without getting the answer. So
I went to the next step and downloaded the CS4 trial version. My
first impressions was: -"Where is everything? It is all grey, no
    functions maybe?.
But that was not the case it was just a matter of new user
interface. One very nice touch was a drop down where it was
possible to select if you wanted "Classic" design look, which then
was similar to CS3. But it was also possible to chose "Coder" and
all the design stuff was minimized and the code window expanded.
    Quite nice actually.
Well, I may put in some more comments later, when I have had
some time to play with CS4, but I wanted to post a second link to
    "Whats New" and more importantly, what is removed;
    For
    new features...
    ...and for old removed ones:
    quote:
    Deprecated features
The following features have been deprecated for Dreamweaver
    CS4:
    - Timelines
    - Web services
    - Layout mode
    - Site Map view
    - Java Bean support
    - Adobe® Flash elements (Image Viewer)
    - Adobe® Flash text and Adobe® Flash buttons
    - ASP.NET and JSP server behaviors and recordsets

  • Saving Ill CS5 for a CS4 user?

I sent files from Illustrator CS5 to a user who has Ill CS4, and she couldnt open them.
I thought i could easily do a 'save as' to earlier versions, as most software does..........  but didnt see an option for that?  What's the trick? (other than her upgrading! lol)

If it were that easy for me, I wouldn’t have bothered to register and ask the question.  I have no option on versions, etc, unless it's called something I'm not familiar with.
Only options I get are *.ai, *.eps, *.pdf,  *.fxg, *.ait, *.svg,  *.svgz
Sorry, but I don’t see anything for going backwards a version.
Unless I have to change settings in my software somewhere?

  • Difference in selection tools between CS3 and CS4?

I have not used CS4 or 5. I read there are big differences from CS3 to CS4 with regards to making selections.
How much different are the following tools in CS4 over CS3?
    - marquees
    - laso tools
    - magic wand
    - quick mask
    Thanks.

The tools you mention have not changed noticeably.
There are additional tools and refinements in later versions.

  • Problem with  Color Ghosting in CS6 but Not CS4 ?

I have HD Footage from my Canon HV30 camcorder and when I open a project and edit the video in CS4 there is no color Ghosting, but when I open a project with the same source files and project settings in CS6 I get a nasty color ghosting. Has anyone seen or experience this issue before?   I have included and example of the same frame in each of the programs.
    Help!!

Unfortunately I don't have another camera with HDV output. I could borrow another camera but it would be AVCHD.
I'm not sure about any issues with the media and if there is a way to get this in front of a developer type person who would be knowledgable about the differences in how PP CS4  converts HDV source into a digital file vs how PP CS6 converts the HDV source into the digital file.  Does the PP capture process use a hard coded CODEC that is different between CS4 and CS6?
I work in telecom and there is a huge effort to comply with standards, but interoperability is still a big issue even when there is a common governing standard.
Because my PP CS4 software converts and displays the "Standard Compliant" source media properly (without any Ghosting/Interlace artifacts)  my experience troubleshooting technical issues tells to ask the question  "What changed between things working and things not working?"  I am drawn to focusing on the difference introduced with CS6.
As addressed earlier in this thread, it could possibly be interaction with display drivers (ruled out with updated drivers and because the exported files have the issue as well?). It could have been an issue with not having the latest PP CS6 software (eliminated with software update).  The only thing I have left is an interoperability issue with either my camera output having some varient in standard compliance that is causing the issue or the PP CS6 software  having some issue in interpreting or processing the streaming media input that PP CS4 did not have.
So for my situation, here are the specifics: I am using a Canon HV30 Video camera set for 1080i  30p HDV format to tape. Within the camera I have it set for shutter priority, at 1/250 Shutter speed. Now we know there are ~30 frames per second so this faster "shutter speed" must be interpolated/converted to blend into the 30 frames.
To replicate/test the situation I would need (or someone else with one) a Canon HV20, HV30, or HV40 setup with the same shutter vs aperture priority recording some fast moving action.
My bottom line is I really like working in PP CS6 and don't want to have to stay in CS4 because of this issue.  Any ideas how to escalate this issue to the developers or any other ways to move towards a resolution?
    Thanks,

  • New adobe DNG converter and CS4 quality problems - EOS 7D

    Hi,
A friend of mine uses Adobe Photoshop CS2.
He plans to buy Canon EOS 7D or EOS 5D Mark II in the future but first we did some tests and conversions.
We found many problems and quality issues.
First Problem is that CS2 doesn't support Canon EOS 7D directly so user has to use DNG Converter to convert the EOS 7D file from .cr2 to a .dng.
When i use and test this, CS2 recognizes and opens .dng file correctly then i optimize sharpness, color etc etc in the photoshop and save the file from the file menu (Save AS) as .jpg file.
Adobe Photoshop CS2 fails to save exif data.
It just saves the camera model nothing else.
On the other hand if i use CS4 it saves all exif data (without dng):
    The next problem is quality.
If i use indentical settings in RAW converted between CS2 (dng) and CS4 (cr2) CS2 images look sharper and have more "per pixel sharpness" than CS4 raw images.
Here's a sample (raw file taken from dpreview.com) that i tested it using both raw converters:
So these are two problems that i don't like nor does my friend and i am asking you if you would fix that and why such hudge difference ?
As the CS4 is being the newest the best of all photoshop it should had better picture but in this case the older version has better picture and i don't see any logic in that.
So if user wants to go for better quality he/she will pick CS2 but have a disadvantage - Exif is not saved in the .jpg file.
I also think that if dpreview would have used CS2 instead of CS4 they would get much higher "per pixel sharpness" from Canon EOS 7D as they did now.
    Thanks.

You can't use the exact same settings since the settings in ACR 3.x (Photoshop CS2) don't match up to ACR 5.x (Photoshop CS4).
Seriously, there was a major change in ACR 4 and then 5 that make comparing ACR 3.x and 5.x pretty pointless...
Fact is if you aren't getting optimal results from Camera Raw 5.x then you don't know how to use it...simple as that.
ACR 3.x had a very crude image sharpening process compared to either ACR 4.1 and above of any 5.x version.
Seriously, Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.x is way old tech...if you can't get better IQ from 5.x you are doing something wrong.

  • Photoshop CS4 or Photoshop 7

Can somebody advise me what the best buy should be? And which are the buy options.
A full version CS4 is for my budget not possible.
But I do not know what the difference is between PS CS4 and PS7.
    Many thanks
    Martine

I think you mean Photoshop Elements 7.  Photoshop Version 7 is four versions back in the past!
The simple difference is that Photoshop CS4 is a full professional level program with a long learning curve and Photoshop Elements is a program for amateurs and beginners which does all the main things that CS4 does but has none of the advanced professional functions.
This is reflected in the price as you saw.
Unless you are in the graphics industry or a very serious Photographer, Elements is fine.
Read all about it here: http://www.graphic-design.com/Photoshop/vs_elements.html
